01x18 - The Color of Revenge!

[BEEPING]

We'll be right there, commissioner.

ROBIN: I agree with the commissioner, Batman.

This clue looks like it points to the Gotham River.

There's always more to a clue than what meets the eye.

Crazy Quilt's paintings are no exception.

He's referring to waves of light, not water.

Red, blue and green are the basic colors by which the human eye perceives light.

Here's where we'll find that flamboyant fiend.

Quilt is after the extremely dangerous stimulated emission light amplifier.

Gosh, Batman, you're right again.

No time to rest on our laurels, Robin.

Stay alert.

Hold it right there, Quilt.

We cracked your color clues.

And now you're painted into a corner.

The Dynamic Duo.

Allow me to introduce my comrades, the Color Guard.

They'll make abstracts of both of you.

[GRUNTING]

Ha.

The Caped Crusaders win again.

[LIGHT AMPLIFIER POWERING UP]

I will carve the cityscape into a masterpiece to rival Mount Rushmore.

That's a pretty ambitious plan for a guy who can barely dress himself.

No taunting, Robin.

[GASPS]

Insolent whelp.

Cowards.

Step forth and submit to my genius.

Holy delusions of grandeur, Batman.

I think Quilt is a few colors short of a rainbow.

He needs to be taught to stay between the lines.

Sacrifice yourself and go from mere men......

to masterpieces.

[SCREAMS]

I guess Crazy Quilt finally saw the light, Batman.

Yes, Robin.

He's learned the hard way that justice is blind.

COP: Come out with your hands up.

[GROANING]

COP: That's not gonna work on him.

Omega alert.

Officer in need of backup.

The big backup.

Walking out the front door with a 2
-ton safe? You're about as subtle as you are smart, Grundy.

Mind if I borrow that? [GRUNTING]

I may be small, but around here, I'm the big man in charge.

No boss.

No lectures.

And the best part......

I get to have all the fun to myself.

He's all yours, officer.

Thank you, Robin.

The citizens of Blüdhaven can sleep safer knowing you're on patrol.

Blüdhaven may look filthy...

...

but at least I've cleaned
the criminal scum off the streets.

Even though some people thought I couldn't make it on my own.

-Strange.

It looks like
-
- BATMAN: Morse code.

It spells out an address on the corner of Haney and Aparo.

What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in a whale's belly...

-...with Aquaman or something?
-Crazy Quilt escaped.

From Arkham, I know.

Good.

Then you know it's you he's after.

Yeah.

I've got it under control.

See you at the next Bat
-family reunion.

You have no idea how deranged Quilt's become.

You always knew more than I did about criminals, right? Look, I know you left Gotham so you could be your own man......

but I'm only here to help.

It'll be just like old times.

-Fine.

But just remember
-
-
-Follow my lead.

-
-you're in my city now.

It could be a trap.

Stay behind me, Robin.

lf you're worried about my well
-being, maybe I'd be safer back in the cave......

rotating the tires on the Batmobile.

You know, like old times.

Speedy had to sharpen arrows.

Aqualad had to scrape barnacles.

Everyone earns their stripes.

Stay alert.

Red fish?
-A red herring, to be precise, Robin.

-That means...

-...

he's throwing us off the trail.

-It means more than that.

The painter Henri Matisse abandoned his brush.....

in favor of paper cutouts for the same reason Quilt has.

He's blind.

QUILT [OVER LOUDSPEAKER]

: Brilliant as always, Batman.

Unlike Matisse, however, I was blinded by a prepubescent brat.

Quilt, you're a lousy artist and a lousier villain.

lf you've got the guts to show yourself, I'll gladly take you on alone.

QUILT: Then come and get me, little birdie.

Wait, Robin, it's a trick.

I can handle whatever this Z
-lister's got.

[GRUNTS]

[GRUNTING]

Warned you.

[QUILT LAUGHING]

A good likeness, don't you think? Without sight, I'm forced to be a little more creative with my art.

Coward.

Open the door and face me.

I wasn't up all night cutting out paper fish...

...

just to have a boxing match
with you, boy.

I have something much bigger in mind.

In the meantime, my kaleidoscope will generate enough centripetal force..

..

to flatten you
into two
-dimensional masterpieces...

...that will hang in my private collection.

The spinning force combined with physical pressure.....

could be enough to puncture the wall with the Batarang.

We'll be crushed by then.

The projector for the light patterns.....

should be plugged into the same power source as the machine.

[GRUNTING]

lf I can just hit it with the Batlaser....

More often than not......

escaping a deathtrap is about quick thinking, not brute force.

Yeah, but my way worked too.

Quilt said he's after something bigger.

We need to find out what, fast.

Let's move.

ROBIN: Oh, man.

He trashed my bike.

Not to worry, Robin.

Please, not the sidecar.

-I thought you liked the sidecar.

-Yeah, when I was 8.

Look, I can handle this alone.

It s me he wants.

That's precisely why you won't handle it alone.

Quilt is a madman and more dangerous than ever.

But he still can't resist leaving clues to his crimes.

Have there been any art thefts in Blüdhaven since he escaped? Van Gogh's Starry Night was on loan to the museum.

It went missing yesterday.

It must mean Quilt is heading to S.T.A.R.

Labs.

I've got it.

Starry Night.

It must mean Quilt is heading to S.T.A.R.

Labs.

Boy, am I glad to see you, Batman.

They're after the stimulated emission light amplifier.

That's what Quilt was after when we put him away years ago.

ROBIN: Arts and crafts are over, Quilt.

The Boy Blunder.

Alas, I was hoping you would be flat enough......

to fold into a little paper hat by now.

Instead, I'll make you the centerpiece of a much more ambitious installation.

[GRUNTING]

Let the scientist go.

QUILT: Batman, always ordering people around.

[LAUGHS]

Well, now you can answer to me.

-Quilt's all mine.

BATMAN: No.

You go after Red.

He's probably prepping their getaway.

You always make me go after the henchmen.

Because you're good at it.

Now, go.

''You're good at it.

'' Quilt is my villain, and this is my city.

All I want is a little......

respect? This is just redundant.

[GRUNTING]

You can't even see well enough to use that thing.

What's your game, Quilt? True, you're nothing but a big blue blob.....

but when I have this device wired into my optic nerves.....

I'll be able to carve a building into a work of art just by looking at it.

You're a sick, lost soul, Quilt.

Give yourself up.

No.

It s you who's lost.

[GRUNTS]

You always wanted to escape the shadow of the Bat, Robin.

Here's your chance.

You're gonna wish you stayed in Arkham with your coloring books.

I'm going to weave you both into carpets......

and spend the rest of my life walking all over you.

Call me a coward now, you little runt.

Quilt, we gotta go.

Who's laughing now, little birdie? Who's laughing now? [LAUGHING]

Quilt, the cops.

[SIREN WAILING]

Very well.

[ROBIN GRUNTING]

For years, I sat in that cell......

listening to Robin's exploits on the radio......

dreaming of his annihilation, destroying him over and over.

With the modifications to my helmet......

I will pull apart this whole city in his name, telling the citizens: ''This is all Robin's fault.

'' [ROBIN GRUNTING]

ROBIN: Quilt always leaves a clue.

This time, he left one by accident.

lf I were going to turn Batman into a carpet...

..

there's only one place to do it.

ROBIN: Quilt gave you lookout duty, huh? Yeah, I used to get lookout duty too.

And after all these years, Batman still treats me like I'm a little kid.

[GRUNTING]

Thanks for listening.

[GRUNTING]

-Now, that's just creepy.

BATMAN: Good job, Robin.

You have to get me out of here quickly, so listen carefully.

No, you listen.

I've got some things I wanna get off my chest.

First off, I'm not a child anymore.

So I don't need you checking up on me and always looking over my shoulder.

Sure, you taught me a lot when I was a kid.

But I'm an adult now, and I've got my own city to look after.

I don't need help.

I don't chase henchmen.

I don't get the costumes dry
-cleaned.

And I don't ride in sidecars.

Admit it, Batman, I'm just as good as you.

Huh? Thanks for taking out the henchmen.

Yeah.

Apparently, that's my specialty.

[LIGHT AMPLIFIER POWERING UP]

It seems I get the pleasure of destroying you twice in one day.

Fine, I'll sit for a portrait......

but make sure you get my good side, okay? I made a few modifications.

Now I can wipe you out with a mere thought.

The world is my canvas, and you'll be my paint.

[LAUGHING]

He's got us cornered.

-So, what's the plan?
-Your villain, your call.

I'm on it.

QUILT: I'll bring this entire city down on top of us......

if that's what it takes, boy.

[LAUGHING]

Batman was always a father to me.

That doesn't mean I forgot my roots.

[GROANS]

[GRUNTS]

Once a Flying Grayson, always a Flying Grayson.

[GROANING]

-Well done, old chum.

ROBIN: Thanks.

I'm glad you finally have faith I can do things on my own.

I've always had faith in you, Robin.

That's why I trusted you to work the streets of Blüdhaven solo.

Well, I learned from the best.

[BEEPER RINGING]

The commissioner just called.

k*ller Moth h*jacked the Gotham Bank money train.

-lf you're up for it.

-Gosh, I'd
-
- I mean, sure, I'm up for it.

Then let's roll.
