[somber music plays]

[caws]

[cawing]

[Vladim] Once this was discovered,
it felt vital to call you back.

[glass crunching]

[sinister music plays]

While we did lose
most of what we were working on,

I had the foresight to keep these close.

So I will be continuing with my amplifier...

[slams]

...experiments.

[pained breathing]

[breathing deeply]

[sniffles]

[inhales sharply]

[knock at door]

[Fruzsi] General.

[Kirigan] What?

Our scouts found
no sign of the Sun Summoner,

nor Prince Nikolai's group.

So keep looking.

Sir, we've nearly
rid Ravka of the Royal line

and have Prince Nikolai on the run.

We'd diminish him further

by shifting our efforts towards
dismantling what is left of the First Army

and their encampments.

It would be the more strategic move.

Except that the Little Prince
and his caravan are with my Sun Summoner.

[nichevo'ya snarling]

Alina Starkov is worth more than any army.

So at the risk of sounding repetitive...

find her.

[menacing music plays]

[indistinct chatter]

Mal?

[breathing heavily] Oh, f*ck!

[groaning]

[Alina] Mal?

It's okay, Alina. He's not here.

- Do you know where he is?
- He must be above ground.

Tamar?

[Nikolai] We're some distance
from the Spinning Wheel,

but we'll find him
once we have a better handle on things.

Entomb the dead in the catacombs.

I want us moving towards Zvedya
as soon as possible.

[Adrik groans]

- It's okay.
- Right.

- All right.
- [Tamar] Ready?

[Adrik screams]

- Alina.
- [gasps]

I'll be back for you.

[gasping]

[gasps]

- What was that?
- Nothing, I was just... startled.

Yeah, and very nearly
buried us all with your light.

Are you okay?

Uh...

I'll be fine once we find Mal.
He wasn't at the party.

He might have been injured.
We don't know where he is.

- He's always found me...
- We'll send a scout.

Okay, but for now,
focus on the task at hand,

saving Ravka.

We have to keep our demons at bay.

[siren wailing in distance]

[somber music plays]

[Young Kaz] Jordie?

[breathing heavily]

[crying]

[gasps]

[breathing heavily]

[breathing heavily]

[breathing heavily]

I must admit,

I quite like the way
you look in the morning.

[Wylan sighs]

[Jesper sniffs, sighs]

- You hungry?
- Mm.

Nina once mentioned a breakfast place
that set waffles on fire.

Or was it sausages?

- Nah. Can't remember, I wasn't listening...
- I...

I don't know if I'm
really ready for breakfast just yet.

[Jesper] Oh.

[banging on door]

No!

[Kaz] Downstairs, now.

Ravka needs saving.

[Jesper sighs]

The Neshyenyer? Sankta Neyar's blade?

So, you haven't forgotten
what you were taught at the Little Palace.

- Just your loyalty to Ravka.
- Thank you.

Ravka? Or Kirigan?
It didn't take him destroying a city

for me to question my loyalty.

So, now that we all know
that you two have history,

what's the payment for this job?

Name your price.

It matters that much.

- Is that the Lantsov crest?
- You know it is because it's hideous.

[Tolya] Prince Nikolai
requests your services

to retrieve and deliver the Neshyenyer
to Alina Starkov in East Ravka.

She's returned?

[Zoya] As has the Darkling.

With an indestructible army
of shadow monsters.

I do not like the sound of that.

[Zoya] She needs the blade to k*ll them.
It's the only thing that might work.

Retrieve the blade
and the Prince will pay what you ask.

But I like the sound of that.

I assume same goes for you?

I'd welcome the chance to help
your prince spend his country's money.

I don't need kruge.
I need to get someone out of Hellgate.

Lantsovs must be able to
pull strings with the Kerch government.

[Zoya] For a certain Fjerdan?

He must be quite the slab of fur.

The offer is the offer.

Prince Nikolai is a man of his word.

[Zoya] But we need to go now.

It's settled.

- We're in.
- And your Wraith?

I was expecting to see her.

She's gone.

No, she's not. Not yet. She's...

Not an option.

"Not an option"?

I know. No idea where
he could have gotten that idea from.

[Nina] And when I'm done,

she'll never be an option again.

[Jesper] Is that my hat?

- [Inej] You hate that hat.
- [scoffs]

But why wouldn't he tell me
about a job for the Sun Summoner?

Because he'd rather push you away
than admit he feels anything for you.

Oh, was I
not supposed to say that out loud?

- I, for one, love that you did.
- [Nina chuckles]

Yeah, I hate this hat.

Listen, I don't know
what happened between you two,

because no one in this bloody band
of broken dolls can confab worth a damn.

But I know Kaz.

And I know you.

And I thought you would at least
like to know why we were doing this.

For your Saint.

[solemn music plays]

- [indistinct chatter]
- [man coughing]

If he's half as strong as you,
he'll make it.

I wish I could say he was, but, uh...

[Nadia sighs]

What about Tolya? Aren't you
worried about how he'll find us now?

Unless he starts reciting
epic poetry to Zoya, he'll be fine.

We have our own way of finding each other.

- [loud rumbling]
- [people gasping]

[ominous music plays]

There's an above-ground exit farther down.
Gather the wounded and go.

You go with Nadia.

There's a fort
south of Kribirsk called Zvedya.

Go there and find Dominik Vertov.

- But you need me.
- [Baghra] Stupid girl!

How long are you planning to make us wait
before you show us a way down?

[Alina] Baghra?

[Baghra clicks tongue]

Perhaps I should have let
Aleksander finish us off.

[David] Genya!

Oh.

Thank Saints!

What a relief, I wasn't sure if you'd...
What are you doing? Hello?

It was just a relief

to see you.

Baghra.

Hardly the Little Palace, but here we are.

- You're the Grisha teacher.
- The Puppy Prince.

I always imagined you were a myth.

[Baghra] Well, myth no more, boy.

This country has clearly been destroyed.

My question is
will you be the one to make it right?

[emotional music plays]

[Alina] What happened?

Who do you think, girl?

Kirigan did this to you?

Hi... [clears throat]

His nichevo'ya.

Oh, Genya.

Genya?

Genya Safin?

The Grisha who poisoned the King?

[tense music plays]

[speaks Ravkan]

Moi tsar. [in English] He's your king now.

No, not until the coronation,

at which time, you'll stand trial for
treason against your Crown and country.

No, she won't.

- She colluded with the Darkling.
- She did what she had to to survive.

Not everyone was as lucky as you
to escape the Grand Palace.

You were away
for too many years, Sobachka.

Even so, you know
what your family is capable of.

Did he force you?

I... [clears throat]

I never sought his attention.

[Alina] The King no longer lives
to pay for his crimes.

You cannot punish her for this.

Her allegiance no longer
lies with the Darkling?

Look at what he did to her!

Kirigan manipulated her,
as he did all of us.

You're safe here.

As future King of Ravka, you have my word.

And if you can point to his base on a map,

I swear by all Saints,
once we are healed and ready to move,

I will hammer him with everything I have.

The Neshyenyer at Ahmrat Jen
is definitely a fake.

Which we told you. Perhaps now
you tell us something we didn't know?

According to my contacts, it's been
stolen by a thief known as The Disciple.

He had a penchant for stealing
Saint-related relics while on jobs.

So he's a thief and a collector?

And retired.

But he has since put a few pieces
of his collection on the black market.

So, to get to him, we go to his fence.

Ohval Saran.

She has a tea shop in Bhez Ju.

To speak with her, we have to order
yellow chrysanthemum tea, off-menu.

- [in Shu] Yellow chrysanthemum tea.
- [chuckles]

It pairs well with sesame rice cakes.

[Nina in English]
Let's discuss. Tell me more.

[Tolya and Nina laugh]

I see you couldn't help yourself, Jes.

You have your freedom. Why would
this be what you choose to do with it?

I'm not here for you.

I'm here for Sankta Alina.

So much for,
"What happens to Saints is fate."

I'll secure my own passport.

- How have I wronged him?
- Hmm?

The passport.
He made me even older than the last time.

Technically, you are older than last time.

[scoffs] Saints,
that's a terrible name. [laughs]

What does it say?

What, can't you read it?

Um, uh...

[laughs] Can barely read it myself.

I should pack.

Sorry.

[Adrik's breath trembling]

Thank you.

Do you think I'll still be able to summon?

With just one hand?

You... you are still Grisha.

This will never change that.

Thank you, Genya.

Of course.

[footsteps approaching]

Genya, wait, please.

Genya! Genya!

[Tatiana] You...

Guards! Guards!

[breathing heavily]

You will pay
for what you did, you monster!

At least you now
look like what you truly are.

Ask me how I did it.

What?

Ask me!

I put the poison on my body for weeks.

So that every time he touched me,

every time... he kissed me,

he took some of it into himself.

All he had to do
was stop coming to my bed.

He was your king!

He brought it on himself.

[Nikolai in Ravkan] Madraya!

[in English] Nikolai.
You heard her. Arrest this m*rder*r.

No.

Not after what I heard.

She was under your protection.

She's a servant.

And you, the mother of Ravka.

Your subjects
were to be like your children.

All of them.

[somber music plays]

I apologize

on behalf of all of Ravka

for all that you've endured.

I don't want your apology.

What... [sniffles]

What was done to me can never be undone.

What I want to know

is whether or not you truly mean to fix
all that is broken about Ravka,

or if you are just destined to repeat
the failures of our previous kings.

[gripping music plays]

[birds screeching]

[indistinct chatter]

[in Shu] Mother, Father...

We hope you're well, rested and fed.

[in English]
When the Fold moved, your aunt...

Zoya, I'm so sorry.

[sniffles]

Who here hasn't lost someone?

[playing lively tune]

Just so you know,

it's bad luck
not to honor the dead during Suntsa Sar.

[scoffs] If I believed in luck,
I'd be in less debt.

I'm more concerned with the living.

Tend not to your ghosts
and they will come back hungry.

[Kaz] The tea shop should be open now.

Want a piece?

Tolya, uh, I was actually
looking to buy some f*ring powders.

Do you want to come?

Always been a fan of shopping.

[Wylan] Huh. For expl*sives?

[Jesper] Sure.

You two, we have a teatime to make.

Genya, please, talk to me.

I... I don't want your guilt.
I don't need your pity.

I told you to leave me and you did.
As you should have.

- I... I made a mistake.
- You would have d*ed.

No, I've been replaying it in my head.

Multiple times,
variations on what I could have done.

- What I should have done.
- No, calculations can't fix this, David.

You can't fix me.

You don't understand what this is like

and I don't have it in me to make you.

I know there's a lot of things
that I don't understand, but I know metal.

What does that have to do with anything?

Your beauty is your armor.

[solemn music plays]

It's fragile stuff, all show, really.

But what's inside you,

that's steel.

It's brave and unbreakable
and it doesn't need fixing.

You don't need fixing.

[breath trembling]

I never should have left your side.

David.

May I just ask, how did you find us?
I've been puzzling it out in my head

how you're able to find us
so far underground, but I just...

It was Baghra. She amplified me.

To seek out familiar heartbeats.

[breath trembles]

[breath trembling]

[sniffles]

[emotional music plays]

[Tolya] Go on, what did you do to him?

- Clearly you've done something stupid.
- I did not do anything stupid.

[Tolya] Mm.

- I said something stupid.
- Mm-hmm.

Well, how will you fix it?

[scoffs] If I knew that,
I wouldn't be talking to you, would I?

Funny you should say that.
There is a poem...

That'll be incentive enough.

What's that one?

[clears throat]
That's... that's red phosphorus.

[laughs nervously]

It's... it's rare in Ketterdam,
but when you mix it with

potassium chlorate, you get
a surprisingly strong contact expl*si*n.

- How do you know what mixes with what?
- It's just chemistry.

And I had a tuto...
Uh, just trial and error.

With expl*sives?

Eh, well, when the sample sizes
are small enough,

the explosions are relatively manageable.

You keep all of that in your head
and you still got all your fingers.

You might just be
the smartest person I know.

[exhales] Tolya? [clears throat] Sorry.
Tolya, could I get your help?

[mouthing] What happened?

How do you think it tastes?

Like tea.

Yes. But is it floral?

Bitter? Mildly sweet
with notes of buttery...

Warm. And wet.

[sighs]

[softly] Saints.

[gripping music plays]

[in Shu] We were hoping

you could put us in contact
with one of your clients, The Disciple.

[in English] Your pronunciation of
our language is impressive for a Ravkan.

[chuckling] That is
quite the ear you have.

My husband and I are from Ketterdam,
but my mother is Ravkan.

I inherited my affinity
for Saint-related artifacts from her.

Husband?

Surprising. I thought
the Kerch were more affectionate.

Well, in private, he's all hands.

Isn't that right, Waffles?

Does "Waffles" take issue
with my culture's customs?

Dear. We've come all this way... for this.

[solemn music plays]

Anyway, our contact mentioned
that since The Disciple's retirement,

he has periodically parted
with some of his personal collection.

- You're looking for something specific.
- The Neshyenyer.

The Neshyenyer is at Ahmrat Jen.

From what we understand,
that one's a fake.

I wouldn't know anything about that.

What if we told you
The Disciple could name his price?

I'd say you have a surprising amount
of disposable income... for thieves.

[chuckling] We're not thieves,
we're, we're just collectors.

I've worked with enough thieves
to know them when I see them.

If you want the blade,
you'll have to steal it from Ahmrat Jen.

[breathing heavily]

Brekker, just breathe.

[grim music plays]

[indistinct chatter]

[gasping]

You were supposed to follow her.

I couldn't leave you.

Not like this.

[shudders]

I see him in places that he isn't.

[Baghra] How so?

He came to me at the Spinning Wheel,
when he wasn't really there.

I... I could see him,
but his body was physically elsewhere.

Aleksander came to you as a projection?

David thinks he has residue
of the Stag antler embedded in his hand.

Which would sustain the link between you.
He knew you had the Sea Whip.

I have to sever it. I can't keep thinking
he'll be around every corner,

that he'll haunt me as I wake.

This mental bridge between you can
only be crossed if you choose to cross it.

Every time you think of him or he thinks
of you, you seek the other out.

I do not seek him at all.

You know him.

He will continue to inv*de
your thoughts, your life,

to convince you of the error of your ways.

You cannot extract
the Stag from your own body.

So you must find a way to block him.

[pensive music plays]

[breathes deeply]

Aleksander.

You seem surprised to see me.

I am. But perhaps I shouldn't be.

I should have known
you'd prove to be an apt pupil.

[Alina] I realized you were right.

How so?

I was meant for more.

[Mal] Nikolai!

Oh, Saints! I was beginning to worry
I might have to tell Alina you're dead.

Where did my scout find you?

I found him, coming out
of a well that lead down here.

- And exactly how did you find...
- Where is she?

Don't worry, she's safe.

[rumbling]

You were the first person
to see me as I truly am.

First to help me realize
what I'm capable of.

Was I? And what about your tracker?

Mal doesn't understand
the power growing within me.

He can't.

That's not his fault.

I did try to warn you.

Tried to explain.

There are no others like us
and there never will be.

I'm finally starting to understand that.

To feel it.

[crackling, pulsating]

[Mal] Alina? What's she doing?

[Baghra] Reaching Aleksander
through a mental tether

forged by the Stag amplifier.

She'll bring the roof down!

Alina! Alina! Alina, wake up.
Alina, come on, look at me!

Alina!

As delighted as I am
that you found your way to me,

what do you want?

This thing that binds us.

I think you fear it more
than you care to admit.

I feared everything there is to fear,
it made me strong.

I understand things about power
that you've years yet to learn.

It's not all about power though, is it?

What about what I want?

The problem with wanting...

is that it makes us weak.

Alina, look at me. Alina!

Please! Come on! Alina!
Alina, come on, look at me!

- [Alina grunts]
- [screaming]

[Kirigan grunts]

[Alina gasps]

[groans]

[breathing heavily]

Saints, Mal! I had him! I would've severed
our link if you hadn't pulled my focus!

[panting]

[Alina sighs]

[exhales]

You and the Darkling
share a sort of connection.

Why didn't you tell me?

When would I have told you?
I couldn't find you, you weren't there.

Because I was taken by First Army.
Vasily had me arrested for deserting.

By the time I escaped and came back,
there was nothing left.

Because he att*cked, and it was
a slaughter. I had to pay him back.

By what? Putting yourself at risk?

I'm going to the ends of the earth
to protect you, to track your Firebird,

and you dive into a fight
with the Darkling.

Now you get angry. Finally.

- What's that supposed to mean?
- It's just one foot in front of the other.

Onwards to the Firebird,

walk me down the aisle
and hand me off like none of this hurts.

Of course it hurts!

Then be honest with me!

You're walking in lockstep
like this is nothing.

Well, what else am I supposed to do?
You're barreling through this.

Stag, Sea Whip, Firebird,
engagement, Second Army.

Lockstep?

I can barely keep up.

And all of this
that you're piling on, you're...

You're not seeing where this really leads.

It leads to me saving Ravka,
repairing this Saints-forsaken country.

- To what end?
- To the extent that it needs.

Is there anything other than that?

No. No, it's exactly that,
I just needed to hear you say it.

So you understand
that you and I are not in lockstep.

That you have raced ahead
on a path that I'm way behind on.

And that's where you should be,
because you were meant for more.

- No, Mal.
- No.

I'll get you the Firebird, that's all
I have to offer. Same old trick.

[somber music plays]

[groans]

[gasps]

[people chattering]

Ohval's not just a fence.

She's The Disciple.

What... what tipped you off?

Her tea cup. When she set it down,
she did so without a sound.

And her heartbeat never fluctuated once.
It held at one b*at a second like a clock.

So, she can control
her heart rate and her emotions.

Those are useful skills for a thief.

Oh, my Saints!

This is where you tell us
where the blade is.

Ohval has it. Her signal to the waitress
to spill tea on me told me as much.

It's as if I know you.

And if she's not going to sell it to us,
we'll just have to take it.

After Nina and I ordered the tea,

I had Inej follow the tea shop employee
who was sent to notify Ohval.

She lives just outside the city.
When she stopped at the tea shop,

she placed an order at the apothecary
that she'll be picking up tonight.

I watched her at home a while,
no one came or went except her.

While she's out of the house,

Nina will tail her to make sure
she stays out of the house.

- The rest of us will grab the blade.
- [Zoya scoffs]

You don't seriously expect me
to break into this woman's house.

Uh, why do you think we're here?

I'm a soldier, not a thief.

Why else would I need you criminals?

There's much less of a difference
there than you think.

- [Nina chuckles]
- You just keep eating your walnuts.

- I'll go with Nina.
- [coughs]

Are you sure you don't need me?

I mean, Zoya can tail Ohval.

Nina and Zoya will wait for Ohval
at the apothecary. Follow her.

If she starts heading home,
buy us some time. Distract her.

[indistinct chatter]

[Zoya] Can you feel her heartbeat?

[Nina] It's like a metronome,
hard to miss.

You need to forget the Fjerdan.

[coughs]

Really? Now is when you choose
to have this conversation?

Seems as good a time as any to
point out you're throwing your life away.

- For a Drüskelle.
- That's not who he is.

That's how he was raised.

They burn us, Nina.
You can't unlearn that sort of hatred.

And you swore an oath to Ravka...

Ravka gave me no choice
but to swear an oath.

I had an opportunity
to live my life for myself and I took it.

We took it.

Matthias chose me, a Grisha,

over his oath as a Drüskelle.

For the first time in our lives,
we chose to be free.

And now he's in Hellgate

and you've abandoned your country
when it needed you the most.

Was it worth it?

[door opens]

[guard] New prisoner!

[tense music plays]

[indistinct chatter]

[prisoners laughing]

Pekka Rollins!

[prisoner ] So we've got company!

[prisoner ] Fresh meat!

[prisoners laughing]

How the mighty have fallen.

Come on. Come on.

Thank you, brother.

- [Pekka grunts]
- [prisoners cheering]

Look. Lo, there do I behold
my brother, Demyan,

slain at the beckoning of this man.

Yeah! Fight him!

[prisoners cheering]

- [prisoner ] Yeah.
- [prisoner ] Get him!

[grunting]

[menacing music plays]

[continues grunting]

[imperceptible]

[grunting]

I am Pekka Rollins.

And my death will not come
at the hands of a f*cking nobody.

You take a run on me
and I will snap you in two.

Work for me

and I'll get you what you want.

Whether it's to line
your family's coffers,

fill your belly,

or dip your wick.

[sniffs]

Who's in?

[shouts] Who's in?!

[prisoners shouting]

- Yeah!
- [prisoner ] We're with ya.

[prisoners grunt]

[breathing heavily]

[somber music plays]

- I will try and get a doctor.
- No, no. No. No.

See that I'm buried

so my body can become one
with the roots of the ash tree.

Matthias, you must walk your own path

to get here with Djel.

Promise, promise.

I promise you.

[breathing heavily]

The Sun...

Demyan.

[Mathias' breath trembling]

I promise you.

[sighs]

Tell me the truth.

This connection you share with Aleksander,
what else is there to it?

I don't understand what you mean.

There's a difference
between not understanding

and refusing
to face difficult truths, girl.

Just now, when you were with Aleksander,
light exploded out of you

as if it could hardly be contained.

So, what aren't you telling me?

[Alina sighs]

You said you wanted a way to shut him out.

You won't be able to move beyond this
until you face it.

[Alina sighs]

I feel him.

Are you saying that
as a projection, he can touch you?

It's more than that.

Every time I use my powers,

I feel him.

His hands on me,

making me use it.

Even after we escaped the Fold
and I cut the antler from his hand, I...

I still felt him.

I told myself to ignore it,
that it would dull with time.

And once I had the Sea Whip, it did.

Its power, it felt... different.

I felt different.

I felt...

free.

[sighs]

The power was... was angry, but it was mine.

Mine alone.

And then I saw him again.

[energy crackling]

[Baghra] Don't stop, keep going.

It was like
he stole my powers all over again.

Like the Sea Whip
was no longer mine but also his.

And why did you think that?

Because he's why
I sought it in the first place.

If it weren't for him, I never would have
taken the Sea Whip's life or power.

If it weren't for him,
I'd still be a mapmaker.

[sighs]

He was the first person to show me

that I wasn't just
some weak stick from Keramzin.

That I was Grisha.

[crying] That I was powerful.

That I was meant for more.

Child.

Even without Aleksander's influence,
those things remain true.

But so much of what I have done
and who I am is because of him.

Even my powers are tied to him,

the man who manipulated
and betrayed Genya, betrayed Ravka...

Who betrayed you. Violated you.

Aleksander is hundreds of years old,
nearly infinite in his power, and yet,

a scrap of a girl has bested him not once,

but again and again.

- You are who you are in spite of him.
- [breath trembling]

Because your will is stronger than his.

The only way you'll find peace
is to finish what you've started.

Dismantle the Fold,
go to the heart of Aleksander's creation

and heal the wound
he's left on this country.

But I can't do it without the Firebird.

[sighs]

I will help you find it.

No lecture about combining amplifiers?

The abomination of it all?

Two amplifiers ago, I would have
cautioned you about greed, power. No.

The abomination would be
not to see this through to the end.

[gripping music plays]

You know where to look?

I know where to start.

Morozova's workshop,
or what remains of it.

- You'll go with my guards tonight.
- I'll do no such thing!

You'll be safe, far from the fighting
and the reach of the Darkling.

- It'll be good for you.
- In what sense?

I am the Queen Mother.

I belong in the palace with you,
not in some convent.

Your time as Queen has come to an end.

Now it is time for you
to take the rest that you deserve.

[Tatiana sighs]

Please, Milen'kiy.

Please, you're all I have left.

I know that despite your position,
life has not always been kind to you.

You didn't choose to marry the King,

or the isolation
that came with your role as Queen.

But none of that justifies
the choices you did make.

I'm sorry, Madraya.

But if Ravka's to change,
it must start with me.

[solemn music plays]

So you are capable of quiet contemplation.

[sniffles softly]

Don't worry.

I won't tell anyone.

Though I'll admit it's a bit of a relief.

Well, I am but a man, Alina.

Dashing and terribly brave, but still...

Still?

How are things?

With Mal?

[sighs]

He's never walked away from me
like that before.

He loves you, Alina.

Even I see that.

[solemn music plays]

[Alina] I have to go.

Firebird.

[Alina sighs]

You'd really leave me to
rally the troops at Zvedya all by myself?

Guess you'll have to
"focus on the task at hand,

saving Ravka."

I love it when you quote me.

[both laugh]

Your lucky compass.

You returned my emerald,

I thought you'd want
another excuse to seek me out.

I'll return it as soon as I can.

I know it'll be hard,
but try not to miss me too much.

Impossible.

[intense music plays]

General?

Take down the First Army encampments.

Understood.

We will refocus our efforts.

And what of the Sun Summoner?

The whole world will hear it
when I make her scream.

[Tolya] This house is traditional.

It has a specific layout.

We enter through
the front courtyard, antechamber,

middle courtyard, main chamber.

[Kaz] We sweep the entirety.

How long will it take you to set up?

I can have the door open
in about five minutes.

And if Ohval trips it, we have two minutes
before the firecrackers go off to get out.

Even if she returns prematurely,
we cannot leave without the blade.

Yes, the future of Ravka
and my payment depend on it.

I'm aware.

[Tolya] It's more than
the future of Ravka at stake.

If we fail, Shu Han,
Fjerda, Ketterdam, and beyond,

they'll feel the weight
of the Darkling bare down on them.

Way to up the stakes.

[lock opens]

[gripping music builds up and fades]

[indistinct chatter]

[dog barks distantly]

- Remember to stay within my sight.
- Remember to keep up.

[door creaks]

[suspenseful music plays]

[whispering] Listen, I'm sorry about
what I said at the Dregs Club.

I honestly didn't know you couldn't read.

I... I didn't know. How could I know
when you're so clever and so smart...

- Can you just stop? Please?
- With what?

Patronizing me.

I hate it.

"Oh, Wylan, it's amazing how you hold
onto all those equations in your head."

"It's so... so clever, so smart."

I'm just saying
you have nothing to be ashamed of.

You're trying to tell me
how to feel about my shame

when you're hiding
the very thing that makes you special.

My face? I would never...

I'm talking
about the fact that you're Grisha.

I...

I've seen you sh**t
all those impossible sh*ts.

That piano wire didn't just fix itself.

The thing that I don't understand
is why you keep it a secret.

You're Zemeni. Zemeni believe
that Grisha powers are a blessing.

So why do you hide it?

Because it's not a blessing, it's a curse.

And you have no idea what it's cost me.

- I didn't mean to...
- [Kaz] Jesper.

We're going in.
Close the doors behind you.

Um...

- [gripping music plays]
- [crowd cheering]

[lively chatter]

Yes?

[fireworks exploding]

[lively chatter continues]

[Nina grunts]

[Zoya] Nina!

[grunting]

[grunting]

[Nina groans]

Spread out.

[Tolya] I sense a heartbeat.

- I thought the compound was empty.
- It's faint. Further in the house.

[mechanism clicks]

[both grunt]

- [grunts]
- [Tolya yells]

[dramatic music plays]

It's impenetrable.

[metal clanging]

- The frames are made of metal.
- They're Durast-made.

Other than you,
your husband, and the Suli girl...

[coughs]

...how many of you are there?

I don't know what you're talk...

[Nina gasping]

[heart b*ating slowly]

[heartbeats stop]

[dramatic music continues]

[mechanism cranking]

That does not sound good.

[Tolya] There's something in the air.

[all coughing]

This is how we die.

[coughing]

[breathing deeply]

[heartbeats gradually increasing]

- You okay? Huh?
- [gasping]

What happened?

Ohval.

[breathing heavily]

Where is she?

[gasps, grunts]

Did you really think I'd go away, brother?

[grunting]
