[delicate, uneasy music playing]

[dog barking faintly]

[narrator] This is a story.

A story about the last men.

The ones who wanted to go back.

[ominous music playing]

[angrily grunting]

[yelling]

[narrator] Back to another time.

Back to the way things used to be.

[unsettling stinger]

[door hinges creak]

But what happens if it's too late?

[ragged breathing]

[inhales deeply]

[echoing gasp]

[Last Men, Animal Army clashing]

[sounds of struggle fade away]

[Tiger] The others.

Abbot k*lled them all.

[grunt echoing]

I should have been there.

You should be with your sister.

[distressing, melancholy music playing]

[exhales softly]

[Becky breathing shakily]

[chilling music playing]

[light buzzing erratically]

[soldier] Johnny.

Boss man's looking for you.

This ain't over, you know.

I know.

[chilling music swells]

[tense, uneasy music playing]

[grunts]

[tense percussive b*at playing]

[Abbot] My brother.

[music halts abruptly]

[uneasy music playing]

Hey, John.

Let's go.

The chopper's ready for us.

Just the two of us.

Like when we were little.

John.

Hey.

We're going to go to Evergreen.

When all of this is said and done,

we're going home.

We never leave family behind.

Oh.

Don't forget this.

[music intensifies]

After you, sir.

[harsh, suspenseful music intensifies]

[music trails off]

[tense, eerie music playing]

[deep, eerie music reverberating]

[phantom breaths echoing]

[haunting vocalizations]

[panting]

[low, distressed music playing]

Why am I alive?

[music intensifies, fades away]

[Aimee] I'm not running this time.

We have to take a stand.

You said it.

Abbot isn't going to stop.

Not until we stop him.

I have spent too long
hiding my kids from the world.

But now I have a chance

to make it a safer place for you kids.

It's your world, after all.

That's something I can fight for.

Come on.

We need a hideout for all these kids.

I'm staying with you.

I brought everybody here.
Now Abbot's coming because of me.

But this is my home.

I know every rock and I know every tree.

Pubba protected our home with his life,
and that means it's mine to defend now.

And I know how to.

Young man, you got to do
what we tell you to, when we tell you,

no matter what.

You got that?

What have I ever not listened to you?

Literally every time.

[Jepp chuckles]

[somber music playing]

[kids clamoring in distance]

[radio squawks]

[Aimee] I'm so sorry about your friend.

- [radio squawks]
- [Becky] After the Crumble,

Tiger was right there by my side.

The first to join the Animal Army.

We were gonna protect the hybrids.

But what you did...

It was braver than any battle we fought.

You took them in as your own.

Gave them a loving home.

You kept them safe.

[somber, melancholy music playing]

Thank you.

If only we had known to do that.

It's not too late.

My army is gone.

But you're still here.

I won't be much longer.

Tiger made sure we had a fair warning.

There's time for you to get out of here
with my kids before the Last Men get here.

Get them to safety.

Do that for me.

It's your turn to watch over them.

We have a surprise for you.

Surprise!

Oh! [Aimee laughs]

You made these...

For me?

Oh, I already feel so much better.

But we just got you back.

[delicate, rueful music playing]

It's okay, Pigtail.

This won't be like last time.

You won't be alone.

You'll have Becky.

It's not fair.

Life doesn't wait for us.

We have to catch up to it sometimes.

[Aimee] Mmm.

Come on.

We have to get a head start before sunset.

[whispers] It's okay.

[exhales shakily]

Wait.

[hesitantly] Are you sure?

Yeah, I'm sure.

Come on.

[tender, emotional music playing]

[harsh, martial music playing]

Look how they flourish!

Now there's a tribute to the herd.

How'd they even survive this long at all?

Or it's because there's
no one left to hunt them.

Or it's simply because
they stuck together,

come what may.

I recognize that look, you know?

Dread.

The exact same doe-eyes
you'd make as a frightened little kid...

whenever Dad came home
and he was in a mood.

It was those eyes
that prayed they were elsewhere.

Somewhere safe.

How many times
would you hear the garage door open

and you'd start trembling?

How many times would you run
and hide under the bed?

How many times before...

[hoarsely] Before you k*lled him?

Yes.

For you.

Don't say that.

I protected you.

I protected you
from a world that preys on your kind.

Because you're human.

More human than I could ever be.
