[TSUKIYAMA]

Excellent!

Oh, what an exquisite gibier !

How fitting that my namesake,

the full moon,

shines down on us tonight.

[TSUKIYAMA] I remember when

I first laid eyes on you

I haven't been able

to think of anything

but you ever since that moment.

I must be honest,

you've caught me off-guard.

I've never had such

a burning desire.

I can't tell you

how much I've enjoyed

watching you every day.

I'm fascinated by

how hard you train,

pushing your mind

and body to the limit

in the hopes of

reaching greater heights.

I find your passion

incredibly inspiring.

You've gone to

such great lengths.

To transform yourself into

the tantalizing specimen

you are today.

I can only imagine

how delicious you taste.

The aroma alone is so enticing

that I can't stop my body

from trembling with excitement!

Divin! So pure, so tasty!

Tres bien!

Ah, the delectable

flavor of adrenaline.

Condensed to the point

of absolute perfection,

it bursts forth from within

a wall of deliciousness!

The flavor profile

is so sophisticated,

so overwhelmingly pure,

that a mere hint has sent

my taste buds into a frenzy!

This man was dedicated,

and all that training

has paid off.

Would you look at these muscles?

I'm in awe of their

exquisitely lean proportions!

[TSUKIYAMA] I offer you

my eternal gratitude.

Thank you for devoting your life

to improving your physical form

so that I may feast on it today.

Now it's time.

You're going to

become a part of me,

and thus allow me

to shine even brighter!

What?

[CHIE]

Yes! I got the sh*t!

Hooray! I did it!

Woohoo! Go me!

[giggles]

I can't believe it!

I actually pulled it off!

Let's have a look.

How dare you, little girl?

You interrupted me during

my very first bite!

Oh wow, this'll be

an amazing showpiece!

I think you'll like it, Mister.

Look!

My. This photo

is truly outstanding!

You've captured

the unvarnished reality

of the moment.

The combination of

the sanctity of the meal

and the frenzy of emotion

felt right before--

Wait! It's a picture of me!

Yeah, it is.

Pretty cool, huh?

You're Shu Tsukiyama, aren't ya?

I'm Chie Hori.

Nice to meet ya.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Oh, yes.

The pleasure's all mine.

[gasps]

What the hell is going on?!

I would've never guessed

that we're high-school

contemporaries.

I know. I'm really short.

Somehow I knew

you had the scoop.

So I stalked you,

and it sure worked out for me.

Yes. What is it

you're after, Miss Chie?

[CHIE]

Nothin'. I've already got it.

Right! I wanted

to use this puppy

to take an amazing picture.

Yep. Now that

I've got it, I'm done.

Oh, come now,

you can't be serious.

I'd imagine you went

to a lot of trouble

to get the perfect sh*t.

And given its subject matter,

I doubt you'll

keep it to yourself.

Miss Chie, you listening?

Yeah, I heard you. Oh!

Are you saying you want me

to post that photo of you?

Sorry, but I can't

do that right now.

Non , non , that is most

definitely not what I meant.

I simply wanted

to discuss your intentions

because I don't

want there to be any-

Excuse me, Miss?

Can I also get a chocolate

sundae, please?

I wasn't listening

to you just then.

[sighs]

[TSUKIYAMA] I don't know

what it is about her,

but I've never found a human

so completely unappetizing.

I would like to ask you

something, Miss Chie.

[CHIE]

That was delicious!

I said I would like

to ask you something.

Nothing's stopping you.

I'm listening.

I'm not sure how to ask this,

so bear with me.

It's obvious that

enjoy photography,

but would you consider it

your driving passion?

Let me clarify.

Would you be willing

to risk your life to pursue it?

[CHIE]

Hmm?

I don't really think about

complicated stuff like that.

Well, I'm stuffed.

I should prob'ly be going now.

Thanks again for

the parfait. See ya!

Wait just a moment!

I'm not done talking to you--

Alrighty, here's that

chocolate sundae you ordered!

Chie! Hold it,

you little rodent!

Ah, pour l'amour de Dieu.

'Scuse me.

I've got your chocolate sundae-

It wasn't for me!

[sighs]

[SCHOOLGIRL A]

Hi, Tsukiyama!

Hope you're having

a good morning!

Bonjour, thank you

for the greetings, ladies.

They're like a chorus

of angels to my ears.

[SCHOOLBOY A]

What a tool.

[SCHOOLBOY B] For real.

Nobody talks like that.

I'm only saying what

everyone is thinking

about these beauties.

They deserve the admiration

of every man on campus.

I won't deny them.

You just jealous we don't

greet you every morning!

Heh. Quels imbéciles.

I apologize for

their ignorance, ladies.

I hope you can find it in

your hearts to forgive them.

You're the best, Tsukiyama!

You really are!

[TSUKIYAMA]

What're you doing, Miss Chie?

Oh hey, Tsukiyama.

Good morning.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Same to you.

Why were you hiding up there?

Ask me later. Bye!

Okay, I will.

Oh, Hori.

So, you know her?

We're not friends or anything,

but I've heard about her.

Because, well,

she's a bit eccentric.

She seems like a nice person.

Is she a friend of yours?

I suppose you

could call us friends.

Huh?

[MATSUMAE]

Tsukiyama?

Do you have a moment?

Master Shu.

Would you like me

to get rid of the girl?

[TSUKIYAMA]

Matsumae.

I appreciate your

concern, really I do.

However, this is my problem.

I assure you,

I can handle it myself.

Besides, if I can get past this,

I just may be able

to scale up my development.

I'm embarrassed

I didn't consider that.

Please forgive me for

being presumptuous, Master.

[TSUKIYAMA]

You're forgiven.

And you've made

your feelings clear,

but I'm afraid I simply

can't give up the fight yet.

But enough about that.

Mind if I sit here?

Be my guest.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Merci.

I couldn't help

but notice that you

and the diminutive photographer

have become quite friendly.

Honestly, I was

forced to befriend her

because she took a picture

of me while I was eating.

Are you kidding me?

No, I'm afraid not.

I saw it myself.

Now I'm stuck, Miss Ikaru.

Why didn't you k*ll her

when you had the chance?

Huh. Good question.

I suppose that would've

made my life easier.

However, I think

it's more entertaining

to get to know her

and see the world

through her viewfinder.

She's quite fascinating.

I can't believe you

allowed this to happen.

And yet, at the same time.

I'm not surprised.

This is just like you,

or rather, like your family.

They're so powerful,

they have influence over

both politics and business.

As their distinguished son,

you get to live a charmed life.

If you had been brought up

in a normal household,

you wouldn't dream

of going into the world

and making a spectacle

of yourself like you do now.

I'm amazed you've gone this

long without being found out.

You need to change

your outlook, Miss Ikaru.

You should live

your live boldly,

as though you're

no different than them.

'Cause believe it or not,

you're less likely to draw

unwanted attention that way.

Most humans go about their lives

without even realizing there

may be ghouls among them.

The thought never

crosses their mind.

[giggles]

I almost feel sorry for them.

[giggles]

Have you learned

anything new about her?

Chie Hori comes from an

ordinary, middle-class family.

An average student,

she somehow scored high

enough on her entrance exam

to earn a full scholarship.

However, her grades

have been suffering

since her enrollment.

She doesn't appear to be

very diligent in her studies.

Instead, she spends

time pursuing

her passion for photography.

I asked the

photography club's adviser

for an appraisal of her work.

I was told that

while some of her sh*ts

are absolutely terrible,

so bad they appear to

have been taken by a child,

others are supernal

works of art.

Thank you, Matsumae.

So her photography

is inconsistent,

and the same can be

said of her studies.

[MATSUMAE] I don't believe

this young lady warrants

your concern, Master Shu.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Belle mademoiselle.

It's time, my dear.

Let's find out

who you truly are.

[CHIE] I don't get it.

This is just a hospital.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Yes, indeed it is.

I thought you said that

you were gonna take me

to someplace interesting.

Don't tell me this is it.

I find hospitals fascinating

because they provide a glimpse

of the human condition.

They pride themselves

on their strength,

but they're

actually quite fragile.

Okay, I get it now!

You're tryin' to tell me

that there's something

wrong with you!

[TSUKIYAMA] Miss Chie.

Are you listening to me?

Huh?

Is that not it?

[BOY A]

Hey! Wait up!

[BOY B]

Wow! Look how far it's goin'!

There's something

I would like to address

before we begin our adventure.

I want to make it clear to you

that I have nothing

but love for humanity.

Yeah, you love 'em so

much that you eat 'em.

That's not what I meant,

there's no need to be crass.

I respect them.

Their ambition is enviable.

They don't have fangs or claws

yet they fought their way

to the top of the food chain

and now they're

the rulers of the land.

I can't help but wonder

where they get that strength

and determination.

That's nice and all,

but you do eat 'em, right?

That's beside the point.

There's nothing I want more than

to have a deeper

understanding of them.

It's a yearning

that drives me to madness.

This coffee's so hot

I can't even drink it.

Would you mind starting

over from the beginning?

Never mind.

Take a look at the old man

and nurse passing by.

What's special about them?

Here. I'll get it.

What did I tell you?

Why'd he do that?

It seems the old man

gets a kick out of

harassing young nurses.

They reprimand him each time,

but he continues to do it.

He won't remember his actions

or their warnings for long.

As if that weren't bad enough,

he's also a man of wealth.

Which means none of the nurses

can object too harshly.

I would like to extend

an invitation to you.

If you're feeling up for it,

meet me in the old man's

hospital room at midnight.

Let me clarify,

this is an invitation to

join me for dinner, Miss Chie.

You understand what

that means, don't you?

I'm inviting you

to step into my world,

of your own accord,

to witness an event

unlike anything

you've ever seen before.

You'll have the opportunity

to take some amazing photos.

[CHIE]

Count me in.

Good thing he's a sound sleeper.

This place is even fancier

than a five-star hotel.

It's a melon!

This would be

awesome on a parfait!

Ew, it's rotten.

Somebody's coming!

Uh-oh!

[NURSE]

Why's this melon on the ground?

Ungrateful bastard.

These gifts are too nice

for a dirty old man like him.

Nasty! These are stale.

I'll show you.

[NURSE] This is what you

get for leaving me

with rotten fruit

and stale cookies!

Hello?

Can you hear me, old man?

Come on!

Just respond already!

I've got other

patients to check on,

and I can't leave the room

until I know you're breathing.

There we go.

Wasn't so hard, huh?

You make me sick.

Why are you still alive?

Die! Creep!

A lecherous geezer like

you doesn't deserve to live!

Why are you still breathing?

Bastard!

Everyone hates you!

Do us a favor and die!

Who the hell are you?

What do you think you're doing?

Stop it!

She almost looks like an

angel in that white uniform.

Wouldn't you agree, Miss Chie?

Excuse me, who said

you could come in--

That attitude of yours

doesn't intimidate me.

I need you to stay quiet

while I chat

with the girl, okay?

Thank you, dear.

[TSUKIYAMA] Most nurses

are tender, caring souls,

but not this one.

Each night she

goes room to room,

abusing the patients

she doesn't like.

Remember earlier,

when I told you the

old man forgets his actions?

Well, he also forgets

what others have done to him.

He wakes up

with bruises and sores

but he can't for the life of him

remember what caused them.

As such,

the blame falls entirely

on the senile old man,

and that's the end of it.

It's an intriguing little

scenario, wouldn't you say?

[TSUKIYAMA] You know,

nurse, I think you and I

could be great friends.

Now I know it's rude

to eat in front of others,

but I'm absolutely famished.

In gourmet circles,

the skin of the elderly

is considered a delicacy.

Those who've tasted it claim

that the unique flavor

and texture are addictive.

They can't get enough!

[screams]

While the epidermis

is rather dry and rough.

The underside is

smooth and slippery,

still moist with blood.

The two textures

are drastically different

yet incredibly complimentary.

When they're combined

there's a unique astringency

that stimulates my taste buds.

What unparalleled harmony!

He's a ghoul!

Doctors say the average

lifespan of a man

is much shorter

than that of a woman.

And once they make it

to their nineties,

it drops significantly.

All this to say,

it's rare to come across

a man of your vintage.

I bet you had no idea

you were such a luxury!

Stop! I beg of--

[screams]

The dryness of the skin

has a chalkiness to it,

almost like powder!

The flavor's absolutely divine!

Help me!

I'll give you anything

you could possibly want

if you'll just save me

from this monster!

I've got money! And land!

I'll give you whatever you want!

Please, help me!

[laughs]

I'm amazed by your sense

of self-supremacy,

you're surrounded by suffering

yet you pay no heed

to the cries of others.

I find it rather endearing.

Yeah? Thank you very much.

[laughs]

Oh! Huh?

It's time to get down

to business, Miss Chie.

No more fun and games.

Your life is in my hands,

if I let go you will

most certainly die.

Funny thing about death,

it's the great equalizer.

It eventually

befalls every creature

in this imperfect world.

While there are those

who revere life,

I've no qualms about

taking the lives of others.

I think I've made that clear.

That look in your eyes.

I have a question

for you, mon chéri .

How does it feel knowing

that you're on

the brink of death?

You'd better

answer me, Miss Chie,

I'm not going to ask you again!

There's such a

nice breeze out here.

Oh, for crying out loud!

What the hell is wrong with you?

If you don't start

talking, you're dead!

How's it feel to

face your mortality?

Answer me!

[gasps]

Oh...

You think you can

walk out of here

like nothing happened?

Well, I won't allow it!

I'll expose your dirty secret!

I'll tell anyone who'll

listen about how you b*at me

and the other

patients every night!

I'll tell them

you steal from me!

And everything else you've done!

[NURSE]

Guess that leaves me no choice.

[OLD MAN]

Wha-What do you mean?

No! Please! Don't hurt me!

That hurt! Wait!

That means... I'm still alive!

How lucky!

Honestly, I kind of

think of you as a pet.

[CHIE]

Huh? Whaddya mean by that?

To be frank, when we first met,

I was surprised at how

unappetizing you were to me.

I couldn't make sense of it

until I realized humans

probably feel the same way

about their pets.

Let's make it official.

From this day forward,

you are going to be

my pet, Little Mouse.

[CHIE]

I don't want any part of it.

There's somethin'

I need to confess to you.

As a safety precaution,

I scheduled my computer

to upload the photos of you

onto the net later tonight.

I hope you're not offended.

My thought was

if I went missing,

then everyone would

know you're the culprit.

But since I'm still alive,

I should prob'ly cancel it.

For heaven's sake.

Then again, I didn't

bring my computer with me.

What should I do?

[TSUKIYAMA] Don't worry,

I'll pay for a taxi.

I'll get you home

to cancel the upload.

Huh? You're coming over

to my house, Tsukiyama?

Scandalous.

[TSUKIYAMA sighs]

I'm just dropping you off,

please don't make it

sound so sordid.

I want you to

contact me as soon as

you've cancelled it, okay?

I would hate to have

to take down the server.

[CHIE]

I'll let you know.

[TSUKIYAMA]

I'm serious, Miss Chie.

You mustn't forget.

[CHIE]

Don't worry, I've got this.

[TSUKIYAMA]

I certainly hope so.

[TSUKIYAMA] "Tragedy at

the university hospital.

Patient found brutally m*rder*d"

Unfortunately, it seems the

crime's being pinned on me.

I am absolutely heartbroken.

Well, let's be honest,

you are the one

who got the ball rolling.

[TSUKIYAMA]

Non, non, mon amie!

Even if I hadn't stepped in,

the villainous vixen

would have k*lled

the old man eventually.

Ah! Oh, yeah!

Speaking of that crazy nurse,

I went by the hospital

to check in on her.

You have some interesting

pastimes, Miss Chie.

She played the part

of the victim

and won the sympathy

of the hospital staff.

And her luck doesn't end there,

turns out she's

now dating a doctor

who she'd had a crush

on for quite a while.

She looked happier

than I'd ever seen her.

Well, I suppose there's

nothing more powerful

than a tragic queen.

Non?

There will come a day

when her past

catches up with her.

I can hardly wait.

[TSUKIYAMA] I can't help

but feel disappointed.

But I know the ultimate delicacy

is out there somewhere,

waiting for me.

[TSUKIYAMA]

And someday, I will find it.
