[Maya] Why?

Why would Joe m*rder his own brother?

It started when Theo Mora
came to Franklin Biddle Academy.

Theo was funny, outgoing,

and it didn't hurt
that he was a superb football player.

This kid could score from anywhere.

And maybe that's the problem.

How come?

He was a threat.

He was a threat to Joe.

[Maya] That's true.

- Joe hated anyone who was better than him.
- Correct.

[Maya] Christopher?

What happened to Theo?

Please, Christopher.

It was supposed to be a prank.

What was the harm?

A little hazing. It... It happened
all the time at schools like Franklin.

So, that night, we were celebrating.

It was Founders' Day,
and we were pissing about.

And we grabbed some masks.

We went to his room.

Me, Joe, and Andrew.

[ominous music plays]

And we jumped him.

We dragged him down to the old ruins.

[shouting indistinctly, laughing]

You know something?

- He went along with it.
- Come this way! This way!

[boys chanting indistinctly]

[suspenseful music playing]

[boys in Latin] Thus has it always been...

[Christopher] And then,
Joe starts tying him up...

to a chair.

[boys chanting] Theo!

[chants echoing]

I remember I... I left this one knot loose.

But... Joe came round and tightened it.

[boys laughing]

Joe had grabbed
this funnel from the kitchen,

and he stuck it in Theo's mouth.

Oh!

Two other guys were there,
William and Ian, and we were all laughing.

And they started pouring
vodka down the funnel,

and we were all chanting,
"Chug, chug, chug" and the rest...

[boys cheering]

[sputtering]...it's like a bad dream.

- Like it never really happened.
- They kept pouring?

- Theo's legs started thrashing.
- [Theo gurgling, groaning]

He was having a seizure or something.
And... Joe wanted to push it.

It was like he couldn't stop himself.

He just kept on,

despite the thrashing,

like it was still fun.

We didn't know what to do.

[tense music playing]

We all agree, then.

We never tell a soul.

Not ever.

No matter what.

[music building]

[music crescendoes]

[music fades]

I... I was scared, Maya.

[Maya exhales]

[sniffles]

I was never the same.

Nor Andrew.

So, a few weeks later,
you all ended up on the yacht.

The same five people.

What happened, Christopher?

Andrew was there.

[ominous music plays]

And what? He...

He wanted to confess?

He said... he couldn't sleep.
He couldn't eat.

[Joe] Here we go, boys. Come on, drink up.

Cheers!

- Another!
- [coughs]

[Christopher] He was... drunk and emotional.

Guys, we have to come forward.

I don't know how much longer
I can go on like this.

Joe did his... charm thing.

It's gonna be okay, Andrew.
Everything's gonna be good.

[Christopher] Later,
while we slept it off down below...

Andrew went up on deck...

to be on his own.

A few minutes later, Joe followed him up.

I heard a splash and I knew.

[shuddering] Oh God, I knew.

And you've never told anyone this?

- Never.
- It's...

[sobs softly]

[groans] I... I'm sorry.

[sobs]

Why now?

Why tell me?

[breath trembles]

Because...

Joe's dead.

I finally feel safe.

Corey Rudzinski, I'm arresting you

on the suspicion of the conspiracy
to m*rder Tommy Dark.

- Shane, you have to trust me on this.

There was no way I was gonna lose more.

[man 1 shouts indistinctly]

- We need medevac! She's bleeding out!
- [people screaming]

Whoa! Yeah, don't move!

- Medic!
- [woman 1 screams]

- [man 1] Medic!
- [Maya] It's carnage down there!

- [man 2] Move!
- [man 3] Ugly Five-Four?

We have vehicle on the road.
Do you have eyes on? Over!

We have our hands full down here.

Yeah, we've got it, Topaz Two-Six.

On standby, awaiting the medevac. Over.

Hello, Zero. This is Ugly Five-Four.

We have a suspicious vehicle heading
towards vulnerable friendly forces.

Do we have permission to engage? Over.

[woman 2] Unable to confirm.

Do not engage unless you have
positive ID of enemy forces. Out.

[Maya] So, we waited,

while I was hearing

- Hold current position.
- f*ck.

[tense music plays]

It was a horrible, horrible decision,

but we were trained
to make those kinds of decisions.

I wasn't going to lose
another one of our soldiers.

The flashbacks that I get...

[exhales]

I mean, you don't have to be a shrink
to work it out.

It's every night.

Every night, I am in that helicopter,

and every night,
I am trying to find a way...

just for a different outcome.

And every night, those civilians die.

Yeah.

[man 3] Confirming no combatants
in vehicle. Over.

I just... [breath trembles]

[voice breaking] I just want to go back.

Or I... Or I do sh**t,
and there are no civilians.

[sniffles]

But I can't go back, Shane.

[shuddering] I... I can't.

[Kierce] Tommy Dark was found
in his freezer with his throat slit.

It was a brutal death.

We found blood in the boot
of Maya Burkett's vehicle...

- [eerie sting]
- ...and, in interview, she admitted

it was you that took her
to the rental unit

where Tommy Dark was found dead.

Well, if blood was found
in Maya Burkett's car,

then why are you accusing me of m*rder?

Because you're both suspects.

We also have evidence to suggest
that you had unauthorized access

to police systems
with an intent to commit an offense

under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

So, hey, look, look, hey,
why don't we start

by you telling me why you broke into
Tommy Dark's rental unit?

- [Kierce] I know who you are, Corey.

How you operate. Scandal, corruption.

You like to report on things that,
as you see it, are what...

[sputters]...matters,
the world needs to know about.

- It's not as I see it.
- Ah.

It's not online hearsay.

- I deal in facts.
- [chuckles]

Everything that goes on my website
goes through rigorous investigation.

Yeah, "rigorous investigation" being
breaking into people's property.

My client has admitted
the breaking and entering, but if you...

Tommy Dark was a shipping security boss
and former yacht captain.

A morality-free piece of shit
paid for by the Burketts.

And the reason? No f*cking idea.

Not just paid.
Paid off the books for a number of years.

That... That is not normal behavior.

I told Maya

her husband's family have been
covering up medical trial fixing.

It was making children poorly
around the world,

and the Burketts have been using
every legal tactic in the book

to make sure
that information doesn't go public.

- And you think Tommy Dark was involved...
- I don't know.

- Well, he's wound up dead, Corey.
- Yes, but not by me.

Why would I k*ll him? I've got no motive.

Maybe he found out
you were digging around.

- This is pointless...
- No, hang on.

Why were you at his rental unit?

[chuckling dryly] Corey...

Hey.

A man's dead.

You admit breaking into his rental unit.

You... You fled the scene of a crime.
You were investigating him. You...

You've been hacking him.
Hey, look, look, look...

You're right in the middle of all this.

And "no comment"
isn't going to swerve that.

[pensive music plays]

I'd like to speak with him alone.

[music continues]

[phone chimes]

[ominous music plays]

I still wanna talk to Izabella.

- She's been avoiding me.
- She doesn't want to talk to you.

[Maya gasps, screams]

- [glass shatters]
- Ow! f*ck!

[suspenseful music playing]

Maya?

[car engine starts]

Maya!

Unbelievable.

[music fades]

[Corey clears throat]

It's picture-only in the cell.

No audio.

- Can you give us two minutes?
- [officer] Yes, Sarge.

[Kierce sighs]

Okay, look, this is, um...

This is a big story.

And if the Burketts
find out that I'm onto them,

they will legal me to death,

or actually, you know,
I'll find myself in an accident.

So, like a classic conspiracy theorist?

They've been falsifying data
in drug trials.

Hushing it up because it doesn't fit
their percentage narratives.

See, they, uh... they pride themselves
on minimal side effects,

so they say that 99.6% of their patients
experience mild to zero ill effects

in the first 12 months of prescription,
but that's bullshit.

They're using the same technique
that was used in that opioid scandal

to silence patients
who have suffered severe reactions.

I've seen the real data.

And it ain't 99.6%.

Oh, and right, yeah, you, uh... you think
I'm a conspiracy theorist. Sure.

Well, Maya's sister, Claire,
was looking into it when she died.

When she was m*rder*d.

[ominous music plays]

And I think Claire was m*rder*d
because she was going to reveal

the truth about Lambur Pharma,
which is owned by the Burketts,

and their falsified dr*gs trials.

[dramatic sting]

[breathes deeply]

[chuckles dryly] So, what are you saying?

I'm saying...

that Lambur Pharma
have dangerous products out there.

[music intensifies]

[gasps]

[Corey] Some people have seen
strange side effects.

Hallucinations...

Get a test. Go private.

Keep it a secret if you must.
But you get a test.

Some people have attempted
to commit su1c1de.

[Molly] What do they mean,
they don't know what it is?

How can it be serious
if they don't know what it is?

It's serious
because of what it's doing to me, these...

these blackouts.

[Corey] Of course, the Burketts
don't want anyone to know about it, so...

[chuckles dryly]

...if you want to know
who k*lled Tommy Dark...

I'd be looking in their direction.

[dramatic music playing]

[eerie sting]

[music fading]

[pills rattle]

[uneasy music playing]

So, you... It's just the dr*gs, Nicole.

You were never really here.

Bad side effects.

And good ones, I guess.

[chuckles softly]

[disorienting sting]

I'm having a baby, Nicole.

I'm getting married.

[music building]

[disorienting whooshing]

You can't start cutting yourself off
and not expect a reaction from me.

[Kierce] Yeah, I'm good, Nicole.

Talk to her, Sami.

She loves you.

- I'm sorry.
- [Nicole] It's not your fault, Sami.

You weren't on duty when I was m*rder*d.

[disorienting warbling]

[music softens]

I miss you.

[breath trembles]

I'll always be with you.

In here.

Go back to Molly and the baby.

[Kierce] Yes, you're right.

I should. It's not you, it's just...

I love you.

[gentle music playing]

I have to go now.

No.

[phone rings]

- [ringing continues]
- [officers speaking indistinctly]

[pills rattle]

[dramatic sting]

[suspenseful music plays]

[ominous music plays]

[intriguing music plays]

[phone ringing]

- Hello?
- Eddie, it's Maya.

I'm on a new phone.

Listen, I need you to meet me.

It's important.

[suspenseful music playing]

[music fades]

Hi.

What's going on?

I need to sign you up
so you can pick Lily up for me.

- What's with the burner phone?
- I can't explain. Okay?

- I need to go. Come on.
- Maya, what is this?

[inhales] Right, I need to go somewhere.

And later, I need you to come pick Lily up
and take her to your house.

She loves you guys.

[exhales]

You can do that for me, can't you?

Yeah.

What's going on, Maya? Are you in danger?

You wanna know who k*lled Claire?

Then let me do what I need to do.

Great.

Well, that's it. You're all done.

Your brother-in-law has permission
to pick up Lily whenever you choose.

Great. Thanks.

No worries.
Anything else I can help you with?

- Can I see Lily?
- Do you want me to go get her?

No, no, no. I don't want to confuse her.
Can I just see her?

Sure, yeah.

Okay, thanks.

[gentle music plays]

Thank you.

[music fades]

Thanks. Can I borrow your phone?

My phone? Why?

Well, this thing won't go online, will it?

Do you know what, Maya?
Your behavior is beginning to scare me.

I'm just keeping an eye on somebody.

[suspenseful music playing]

Thanks.

You'll never guess who showed up
for his shift at the Busy Burrito.

- [Kierce] The biker suspect from the park.
- Coach Phil Dawson's son.

Now, I've asked them
to detain him until we get there.

I'll drive. You okay?

- Yeah.
- I saw you, uh...

- Fine.
- Okay.

[suspenseful music continues]

I've asked PJ to wait
in my office pending your arrival.

You didn't tell him you called us?

Oh, no. I made up another reason.

May I ask about the nature
of your investigation?

He may have evidence which is important
to the investigation of a serious crime.

- [object thuds]
- Let me know if I can be of assistance.

[Marty] PJ, wait!

Uh, where does that lead?

The service corridors,
but there's no way out.

Is there another way up?

- Yes, there's a lift that way.
- Okay.

Anything I can do?

Go back five minutes,
and don't leave him alone!

[suspenseful music continues]

Oh, come on.

[sighs]

[panting]

[groans]

[panting]

[groans]

PJ!

PJ!

[groans]

- To get the same height...
- [man] Oi!

[panting]

- He's out there.
- Hey?

The lad you're chasing,
he went out that way.

Oh, thanks.

PJ! f*ck.

[grunts] P... PJ!

PJ, this is the police.

I'm or...

[grunting] I'm ordering you
to get off this roof!

- [PJ] Don't come any closer!
- [groaning] Oh my God!

PJ, look, look. Hey, look.
It's dangerous up here, isn't it?

Hey?

Uh...

Oh my God.

Why don't you come back up?

- We could talk somewhere more safe.
- I can't.

- Oi, oi, oi! Sit! Sit down! Sit... PJ! PJ!
- [panting]

- Oh, f*ck.
- [Kierce] Sit down!

Look, there's a policeman
down there, all right?

So wherever you go now, we have you.

So, come on, tell me why you were running.

[sputtering] I don't know anything
about a m*rder. I don't know anything.

All right, all right. Okay.

We know you were there
when Joe Burkett was k*lled.

Yeah. Yeah, I was there when he was shot.
I was with another lad.

[motors revving]

Him and his mates go stealing phones.
We... We grab handbags on motorbikes.

It was just me and him in the park
that night. I heard a shout, okay?

[Kierce] Yeah. Yeah.

And he comes running over, running,
saying our man was dead

and now we had to get out of there,
so... we got on our bikes,

and we got outta there
as fast as we could.

We got away so fast that I came off.

I crashed my bike. I... I was bleeding.

That's why I called my dad, yeah?
But it was just for some help.

[ominous music playing]

- All right. And what did you tell him?
- Exactly what I just told you.

Exactly the same.
He said, "Better not get involved."

[panting] So... we got rid of my bike
and my phone, covered my tracks.

I didn't k*ll anyone.

- All right, all right...
- [Marty] Kierce! Are you okay?

I don't know. Just someone I kind of know.
I don't know his name.

Rambo?

Yeah. Ramsbottom.
And I don't know his first name.

He's a mate of a mate.

And does he, uh... Look, just come up.

And is he the sort of kid
that would... that would hurt someone

if asked to, if someone... Oh.

[chuckling] Yeah. Yeah. I'm fine.

[disorienting music playing]

That dead man in the park, right,
it had nothing to do with me. I swear.

- Oh.

- Help!

Right, you stay there. Okay?

I'm coming up. Just stay there.
Somebody, help me, please!

- Just stay up there!
- I'm fine.

- Keep your eyes on me.
- I'm fine. Stay there.

You stay there! Don't...

- [slips] Oh!
- I'm coming up, yeah?

- Just... stay there. Stop moving, okay?
- [suspenseful music playing]

[panting]

- [groans]
- Just...

Just look at me, yeah?
It's going to be all right.

Just look at me.

Okay? I'm coming towards you, all right?

[exhales] It's going to be okay. Yeah?

- [yells]
- [Kierce] No!

- [music stops]
- [PJ screams]

- [PJ crashes]
- [groans]

[suspenseful music plays]

[PJ groans]

[people murmuring indistinctly]

[groans loudly]

[panting]

[groans in pain, coughs]

Kierce.

- Hey.
- Oh, hey.

[Kierce] Uh...

How's PJ?

Uh, yeah, severe injuries. But he'll live.

[music fades]

Did PJ say anything useful?
I mean, before he fell?

No.

Okay.

[man] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

No, about five.

Do they know? About your condition?

[sighs]

Are you gonna be okay?

Corey Rudzinski didn't k*ll Tommy Dark.

- He was looking into pharma corruption.
- [pills rattle]

He told me the Burkett family
have been corrupting data

and minimizing side effects.
It's been going on for years.

Wait, so it's the pills
that's been causing it?

Okay, so if you just
stop taking them, then...

- Might be too late.
- [sighs]

[pills rattle]

[Kierce] Well...

Take care of yourself
and eat less protein.

[chuckling] Yes, Cap.

- I'll see you.
- Yeah.

[ominous music plays]

[music continues]

[gate whirring]

[music continues]

[man] Baby!

Rambo, I've been through this, all right?

You know what it is about you, though?
You don't listen.

Rambo, get off me.

No, I'm going
'cause I'm sick of you, all right?

Dunno what you're worrying about.
It's one day, Chelle.

Rambo, I told my mum we'd go.

[Rambo] What?
To watch her get pissed? No, thanks.

Why can't you just go?

- I'm gonna be gone all day.
- All day?

Yes. It's an away game.

[Rambo sighs]

[people talking indistinctly]

[Rambo] Thank you.

[sports announcer
speaking indistinctly on TV]

Yes, please?

- Can I get a Diet Coke, please?
- Yeah.

Thank you.

[music fading]

[elevator chimes, opens]

[female voice] Doors closing.

[suspenseful music plays]

[doors unlock]

Luka!

Luka!

[imperceptible]

Don't f*cking move. Hands on the wheel.

And you, hands on the dash.

- Listen...
- Did I say talk?

[tense music playing]

[takes keys]

What do you want?

Answers.

I've been looking for you ever since
you pepper sprayed me in the face.

Since I showed you Joe on the nanny cam.

So, start talking, Izabella.

You've got a lot of explaining to do.

Out the car.

- What?
- I said, out the f*cking car.

- Maya.
- Out.

Move.

Go on.

On the other side.

Stand there. There.

[clatters]

[dramatic sting]

It's Joe's shirt.

Why do you have this?

Talk!

[Izabella breathes deeply]

Talk.

You won't k*ll us.

You have a daughter.

You won't leave her alone
to spend years in jail.

- [groans]
- [Izabella gasps]

I swear to God, Izabella,
I will sh**t you in the f*cking knee.

Talk.

- [gasps softly]
- Talk!

You've got three seconds.

- Three...
- No.

- Two...
- We deepfaked it.

The video.

How?

Luka was Joe.

- And how did you fake his face?
- We got footage.

Footage?

From where?

From where?!

Your wedding video.

[women chuckling]

[disorienting sting]

[chuckles dryly]

[laughs, gasps]

Oh my Go...

[sputters]

Why would you do this?

- Why?
- Because...

Mrs. Burkett...

Judith thinks you're lying
about Joe's death.

[disorienting music plays]

What?

She thinks you know more than you say,
and she wanted you to make a mistake.

She paid us to help.

Get in the trunk.

- What?
- I said, get in the trunk now!

[suspenseful music playing]

In.

I said, get in the f*cking trunk!

[Luka] Okay.

You can't leave us in here!

[muffled] You can't leave us!

Hey! Maya! Hey!

- [man] Maya.
- [gasps]

- Easy. Easy.
- [panting]

[music fading]

What're you doing here?

Eddie called me.

Told me where you were going.
Said he was worried about you.

[exhales]

I think he has a right to be, you know?

[panting]

[ominous music plays]

[Rambo grunts]

[Kierce] Police!

Scream if you like,
but you're answering my questions,

- whether it's here...
- [groans]

...or at the police station.

The m*rder at Winherst Park,

I know for a fact
you were there that night,

and I also know for a fact
you're stealing handbags and phones.

- That's shit, man.
- You know something about that m*rder.

- I know you do.
- Bullshit!

Did someone thr*aten you?

- What? No!
- Did someone pay you?

Are you out of your f*cking mind?

- We were stealing phones. That's it.
- You were there!

Right place at the right time.
It's too much of a coincidence.

- Who paid you?
- No one!

Who f*cking paid you to k*ll Joe Burkett?!

- Tell me!
- All right! Right, right, right, right.

No one paid me, man.
I didn't k*ll him, all right?

But I know who did.

[dramatic sting]

They set me up.

- They tried to convince me Joe was alive.
- Why do that?

Because they think I'm dangerous.

Why?

Perhaps because I know that Joe
wasn't the man that they pretend he was.

[tense music playing]

Meaning?

[Shane exhales]

Joe and Claire were k*lled
by the same g*n.

You got me to test the b*llet
but wouldn't tell me how you got it.

So, if the same g*n
that k*lled your sister...

[inhales deeply]

...also k*lled Joe,
then how can that be, Maya?

There's only one way.

[g*nshots echo]

I k*lled him.

I k*lled Joe.

[eerie music building]

[music crescendoes]

[intriguing synth music plays]
