On the island of Sodor,
there are funny engines,
clever engines,
and even cheeky engines.
[laughs]
But once, there was
a naughty engine,
and some of the other engines
didn't like that very much.
[whistle toots]
All aboard for a big adventure!
[upbeat music]
- [engine] Hello!
[whistle blows]

- Ha!

Sonny's Second Chance.
[whistle blows]
[Gordon]
I don't believe it!
There's a thief on the railway.
- [gasps]
A thief!
- A thief?
Are you sure, Gordon?
- Of course I'm sure!
Sonny. And he's heading
this way!
Oh, the indignity!
- Sonny isn't a thief!
He might've been one once,
but he soon decided
not to be one anymore.
Now he wants to be
good and useful,
and he deserves
a second chance.
- Hmm.
Once a thief, always a thief.
- Oh, Gordon,
we all make mistakes!
- I don't!
[indistinct announcement]
[quirky music]
[whistle blows]
- Now, Sonny, as promised,
we might be able to allow you
to stay and work on Sodor,
but only if you prove yourself
to be a trustworthy
and useful engine.
- Aw, I will, gov.
Trustworthy and useful
are my middle names!
- Hmm. In that case,
I'd like you to deliver
these cars to the docks.
- No problem, sir!
[upbeat music]

- [Salty] Ahoy, there!
[laughs]

A new engine?
- Yeah! Are you all right?

[suspenseful music]

The thief!
I knew you'd be trouble.

the trouble to save you!

- How can I be useful
if nobody trusts me?
The gov's never gonna
let me stay at this rate!

Soon, everyone will see you
for who you really are.

You know, the dodgy one

to be misjudged.
I bet you're so useful, you'd
even pull these cars for me.

Sonny was happy to helpDiesel do all his jobs,because he wantedto be really usefuland stay on Sodor.

And it seemed like Diesel wasenjoying having a friend too.♪ ♪

into doing all his work.

Once, in India,I couldn't understand howelephants could be usefulfor anything other than,well, being elephants!But when an elephantcame to my rescue,I realized I was wrong.Elephants could bevery helpful indeed.At first, lots ofthe other enginesthought Sonny wasnot to be trusted,because of somethinghe'd done before.But when he saved Diesel,they all saw that Sonnywas a kind and useful engine.He just neededa second chance.

It takes time to understand
others properly,
but it's always worth
taking that time
to get to know them better.
