Previously on "Once Upon a Time"...

So, your little science experiment can really tell us why the Evil Queen is still alive and how to destroy her?

I just want things to be normal someday.

I liked teaching.

Information. That's a tall order to fill... from inside this cell.

In that case... let's take a walk.

Belle: Oh, I'll go back... but, uh, I'm not making a home with you.

(Sighs)

(Tool clatters)

Evil Queen: Wow.

Look who cleans up nice.

I like it.

Highlights your eyes.

We're closed.

Oh, for me, I think you'll make an exception.

Why the change?

That would be my business.

Hyde: Changing your appearance can't help you.

Oh, you can change the outside, but what's inside is still there.

Get out, both of you.

In due time.

I'm looking for something I believe that you have here, an old cameo necklace.

I know the one.

Give it to me.

And what will you be giving me in return?

Nothing.

I will.

(Gasps)

(Groans)

(Laughs)

(Evil Queen laughs)

(Laughter)

Why won't he die?

Because you can't k*ll him, just like Regina couldn't k*ll me.

And now he knows it, so unless you want to spend the rest of your days choking him...

(Groaning)

(Whoosh)

(Gasps, coughs)

(Groans, coughs)

(Inhales deeply)

About that necklace.

There it is.

It has great meaning to me.

And now it belongs to me.

Not anymore.

I'm taking it, and you're letting me because that's how our deal works.

You won't stop me.

These stories... they're going to play themselves out, whether you like it or not.

Uh, and I sense you may not.

What's he talking about?

If it's Belle, you promised not to touch her.

Oh, right.

I won't hurt the bookworm.

We have a deal.

But we don't.

(Door closes)

(Pan sizzling)

David: Here you go.

More pancakes.

Usually, I'm lucky to get a lukewarm cup of coffee on your way to work.

Can't a father cook for his daughter?

Sure, but I'm the Savior, not a Romanian power lifter.

Enjoy the breakfast.

This is about Hook.

No.

David.

Fine. It's about Hook.

With him moving in, things are gonna be different.

We're not gonna see you as much.

Killian being here is not gonna change anything.

You can come cook me breakfast whenever you want.

These leftovers, however, will probably last the next month or so.

This is good.

Things are getting back to normal.

You ready for your first day back at school, Grandma?

You know it.

Oh, this can't be good.

We need to talk.

Whatever this is, we'll take care of it.

You and Henry get to school.

Remember... back to normal.

Emma: What's wrong?

Shouldn't you be in the lab, working on the potion?

Technically, it's a serum.

And I'm afraid there's been a complication.

It's Hyde. He's escaped.

I was at the lab until early morning.

When I returned to my room at Granny's, I found this.

It belonged to a woman I cared deeply for.

Hyde knew.

He's trying to taunt me with it.

We need to get you back to the lab.

Now we don't just need the serum to defeat the Evil Queen.

We need it to finish Hyde.

(Bell chiming)

(Door opens, closes)

Thank you for arranging this, Mary.

I-I can't tell you how much it means to me.

There's no need to be nervous.

Father is going to love your work.

(Door opens)

Dr. Lydgate: Mary, there you are.

Hello, darling.

Father.

Dr. Jekyll.

Now, what's so important I had to be pulled away from Scotch and cards at the academy?

Ah. Allow me to show you. Right over here.

This serum, once perfected, will be capable of separating a man's personality in two and dividing the higher, more noble aspects of his nature from the primitive beast of which every man is born.

Intriguing.

Imagine if man were in control of the beast within, rather than sl*ve to it.

How can you be certain your serum wouldn't make things worse?

It can't get any worse for Henry's patients.

They have no hope at all.

Dr. Lydgate, if I had the Scientific Academy behind my work...

So that's what this is about.

You want me to grant you membership to the Academy.

Well...

I'm afraid I can't offer it.

Your work is dangerous.

Good evening, Dr. Jekyll.

Come, Mary.

I'm sorry, Henry.

(Door opens)

(Liquid bubbling)

(Door closes)

Looks like someone's lost control of their inner beast.

Who are you? How did you get in here?

(Laughs)

Doesn't matter, dearie.

But what does is that unlike that blowhard Lydgate, I am here to help you.

I-I don't even know you.

Why would you help me?

Well, let's just say I have a vested interest in your work.

Now, do you want to get into that club or not?

How?

Have you ever stopped to consider what you think of as weakness is really... strength?

Perhaps using that serum to get in touch with your deepest desires is exactly what you need.

Even if you were right, the serum isn't finished.

I-I can't get the active particles to suspend in...

(Giggles)

All science needs is a little magic.

Congratulations, dearie.

You're a genius. (Giggles)

Now, if we can just get that pwetty young friend of yours to finally notice you.

You mean Mary?

Ooh, she's right within your grasp.

The question is, how far are you willing to go to get what you want?

(Giggles)

(Giggles)

(Groaning)

Ahh!

(Screaming)

That's everything.

What, one chest?

Well, I guess there won't be many fights over closet space with Emma?

Well, the seafaring life doesn't call much for possessions.

Speaking of, I have something to give you 'cause I'm leaving.

What is it?

It's a bit of mermaid magic.

It's how they stay in touch beneath the sea.

If you're in trouble, call into that, and I will hear you using this.

They're connected.

How clever.

Thank you, Killian.

And I thought the captain always went down with his ship.

Crocodile.

No. Hey, hey.

It's okay.

Why are you here?

To protect you... to protect you both.

The only one we need protection from is you.

Well, I'm afraid that's not the case.

Hyde has escaped.

And since he wants to use you as leverage against me, I have to make sure he can't do that again.

Why would Hyde care anything about me?

What did you do to him?

Of course. Why would you tell me?

You know what? I don't care.

I've got friends who can protect me.

You... you can just go.

You heard the lass.

If you want me to go, fine.

But first...

(Whoosh)

What the devil did you do?

Cast a protection spell on this barnacle-encrusted heap, one which will prevent Hyde from coming aboard to hurt you... and also make it impossible for you to leave.

No, no.

(Whoosh)

(Whimpers)

H-H-How dare you?!

You can't just lock me in a case like one of... one of your objects!

Apparently, I can.

One day, you'll thank me for it.

(Scoffs)

It's good to have you back, Grandma.

It's like I never left.

Morning, Henry.

That's different.

I hope you have a good day.

You, too. (Chuckles)

Oh, I am s...

Ohh. Ohh, I'm so sorry.

Oh, no, it's fine.

(Chuckles)

I just, um... I think I'm lost.

Do you know where room 20 is?

I do. That's my classroom.

I'm your new teacher's aid.

My name is Shirin.

Oh, from the Land of Untold Stories, like the students.

It's very nice to meet you, Shirin. I'm Snow.

As in Snow White, the princess?

What's a princess like you doing working here as a teacher?

(Chuckles) It's complicated.

I don't know how much you know about the curse that created Storybrooke?

Very little, I'm afraid.

Well, the short version is, I didn't always know I was a princess.

I mean, I did, and then I didn't.

And, well, then I did again.

But when I didn't, I was a teacher.

And even though the curse is long gone, I realized... I really loved teaching.

That's very admirable.

But I supposed I shouldn't be surprised.

You're Snow White.

Your reputation precedes you.

(Bell rings)

Oh, yes, it does.

Let's get started.

Uh, have you ever built a birdhouse?

Emma: I'm at the lab.

I'll let you know as soon as we get to Hyde.

Bye. Guys, that was Hook.

Gold trapped Belle on the Jolly Roger with some kind of protection spell.

He thinks Hyde's coming after her.

The Dark One's wife?

I thought she was under a sleeping curse.

It's always out of one prison, into another with her.

I don't get it.

Why would Hyde go after her?

We need to speed this up. Are you close with the serum?

I'm afraid I've hit a bit of an impasse.

(Chuckles nervously)

All right. What about Gold?

You think he'd be willing to help us?

Emma: You told us he helped you finish the original serum, and he wants Hyde gone just as much as we do.

Regina, you think you could talk to him?

Yeah, I can talk to him.

Dad and I will track down the Evil Queen and Hyde.

Call us when the serum's ready.

Leroy, you and Doc keep an eye on things here.

Leroy: Yeah, don't worry, brother.

We've been keeping an eye on things since the day we hatched.

Wonderful.

I-I was hoping someone would make a run to Granny's for a mutton sandwich.

And, uh, extra pickles.

Dwarfs aren't errand boys.

It helps me think.

It better, or you're gonna see my dark side.

(Horse neighs)

(Door creaks)

(Classical music playing)

Rumplestiltskin: Are you ready for your debut?

I don't feel like the same man.

I-I don't look like him, either.

Because you're not the same man.

In fact, you're not a man at all, really.

You're parts of a man... the parts, scars and all, that Jekyll wanted to hide from the world.

(Chuckles) As a matter of fact, may... maybe that's what you should call yourself... "Mr. Hyde."

(Music continues)

(Indistinct conversations)

Dr. Lydgate.

I'm sorry, but have we met?

No. I'm here on behalf of a mutual friend...

Dr. Jekyll.

I'm Mr. Hyde.

Mary: Hyde?

I don't believe Henry's ever mentioned you.

Hasn't he?

He's certainly mentioned you, and for good reason.

You must be Mary.

Why, yes.

(Smooches)

Mary, why don't you go and get our, uh, uninvited guest a drink?

Of course, Father.

If this is about Dr. Jekyll's membership in the Academy, I've already told him no.

If he thinks sending some... ruffian will change my mind...

That's exactly what he thinks, Doctor.

You see, he told me the story of you and your new lab assistant.

That's her over there, isn't it?

She's pretty.

She's young enough to be your daughter.

Now, that's a story I imagine you'd like to keep hidden, but I'm sure Mrs. Lydgate would be very interested in hearing it... or Mary, for that matter.

Look, here comes Mary now.

(Door opens)

(Liquid bubbling)

Excellent.

Now, unless you need a back rub or a foot massage, can I get to doing what dwarfs do best?

Which is...?

We're the kingdom's guards, its protectors, the might wall between chaos and calm.

Evil Queen: Excellent... because chaos is here.

It's the Queen!

You miss me?

All right, sister.

Let's dance!

(Whoosh)

No, no, no.

H-How did you find me?

Oh, you led us right to you... with this.

You see, my new friend cast a beckoning spell on it.

So now, my lesser half, shall we see what I, the monster you made... can really do?

(Bell rings)

Okay, so, for our first lesson, I thought we would jump right in.

Newton's Third Law of Motion states that for every action, there is an opposite but equal reaction.

Who wants to come up here and solve for "X"?

Come on. There must be one of you brave enough to give this a try.

(Door opens, bell jingles)

(Footsteps approach)

(Bell jingles)

Regina: Well.

I like it. Highlights your eyes.

Well, thank you very much.

Decided to do a spot of shopping now you've lopped off your dark side?

I take it you've seen my other half.

And luckily for you, I wasn't interested in what she was offering.

Resisting the darkness?

This is a new you.

Is there something you want?

Jekyll has a head start on you with a new serum, one that can destroy Hyde for good this time.

He just needs your help.

(Clock ticking)

Rise and shine!

(Giggles)

(Groans)

Well, well, someone had quite the night.

I did? What happened?

Check your pockets.

(Chuckles)

(Laughing) An Academy pin?

I did it!

But how?

Well, it seems your other half can be quite persuasive.

Oh, it really worked! Do you know what this means?

Everything's going to be different now... my... my ideas, my work.

Just one thing missing.

You mean Mary.

You know, that party was filled with suitors.

You wouldn't want any of them scooping her up before you had the chance, now, would you, hmm?

She doesn't even know how I feel.

Why don't you tell her?

Well, I wouldn't know how.

Just swig some more of that serum and let Mr. Hyde do the talking for you.

Mr. Hyde?

My other half has a name?

Yes.

He couldn't very well walk around calling himself Dr. Jekyll, now, could he?

Wh-Wh-Why do you care if I end up with Mary?

You still haven't explained what it is you want.

Well, isn't it obvious?

I'm interested in that serum.

Why?

Because I need it!

Now... one success proves nothing.

Two?

Well, then we'd know you really had something.

So, what do you say, Dr. Jekyll?

Ready to let Mr. Hyde back out to play?

(Exhales sharply)

Regina: What the hell happened here?

They came for the serum, smashed everything.

Can't say I'm surprised that your, uh, stronger half got the better of you once again.

Pretty much how it goes with you two.

You didn't care about me or my work, did you?

Or even what you unleashed?

I didn't unleash anything. You did.

That man out there?

He's not some monster from the deep.

It's you... except stronger and smarter.

No.

He isn't, not this time, 'cause I had a feeling Hyde would find us, so I hid... a little extra, just in case.

Oh, great!

Let's do this.
Gold?

Gold: Hand it over.

It'll only take a moment.

I don't think I'll be... "handing over" our only w*apon.

You can work your magic from right there.

Very well.

(Gasps)

(Heart b*ating)

What are you doing?

The Evil Queen may not care about innocent bloodshed, but we both know that you do.

You did make a deal with her.

She promised to leave Belle and my unborn child alone, which means the only person the serum is gonna be used on... is Hyde.

Now, if you wouldn't mind.

(Dagger sizzles)

You'll thank me for this, Regina.

One day, you'll finally realize you can no more rid yourself of your darkness than I can.

Catch.

(Gasps)

(Whoosh)

They don't remember anything I taught them.

This doesn't make sense.

I'm doing everything exactly the way I used to.

Perhaps that's the problem.

From what you told me, you're no longer the same person anymore.

(Sighs) How do I explain?

Many years ago, the kingdom I come from came under att*ck by a powerful menace.

The only one in any position who could save us was the princess, but she never fully embraced who she was, what a hero she could be.

And as a result, our kingdom was lost.

That's terrible.

I'm so sorry. What kingdom was it?

It's in the past, and it's no longer important, except for what can be learned from it.

If you want these children to reach their potential, you need to lead by example.

That means asserting your strength and embracing who you really are...

Snow White.

You sure I can't get you anything?

We could always cr*ck open a barrel of rum, if you thought it'd help.

I'm pregnant, remember?

Oh, yeah.

(Sighs)

And no, I'm I'm fine.

Jekyll: Hello. I-Is anyone down there?

Oh, you are.

(Sighs) Thank goodness you're here.

And the question is why you're here.

Shouldn't you be in the lab completing your serum?

Th-That's just it. I did.

And then Hyde found me and destroyed the lab.

But what happened to the serum? The Dark One took it.

Apparently, he has some arrangement with the Evil Queen.

Emma's looking for the Evil Queen.

Go. Go. Emma needs you. We'll be all right.

We've got Rumple's spell to protect us.

Thank you, Belle.

(Sighs)

So (Chuckles) you're Belle, the, uh, Dark One's wife.

I'm, uh... I'm sorry for any harm he's caused you.

I appreciate the sentiment.

Sentiment won't bring back Mary.

Mary?

Is she someone you loved?

With all my heart... until Hyde destroyed that love.

Hyde: Mary?

Mr. Hyde?

Apologies.

I-I didn't mean to startle you.

(Chuckles)

Hyde, what are you doing here?

Might I talk with you for a bit?

You may.

I must confess, you... left me quite curious the other night.

I wonder why Henry's never mentioned you.

Have you known each other long?

Oh, it feels like a lifetime.

But I didn't come here to go on about myself.

Actually, I'm here on Jekyll's behalf.

The doctor has great feelings for you.

I care very much for Henry.

But I don't think I could ever... be with him in that way.

Why not?

Look at his work.

Things like... passion and desire are little more than... contaminants to be eliminated.

I need someone who wants to bathe in their passion and give in to desire.

I have a feeling you understand me, don't you, Mr. Hyde?

What makes you think that?

When you walked into the parlor the other night, I saw the way the others looked at you.

They were afraid, but I wasn't.

I saw a man unencumbered by... fear or by social obligation.

How... how do you do that?

How are you so free of it all?

I don't know.

Perhaps I was simply... made that way.

David: You know what my secret for the pancakes is?

Nutmeg.

Now you can make them for Hook.

Emma: Dad, are you sure you're okay with me and Hook?

Even as much as I hated that pirate when I first met him, if you're happy, so am I.

What?

Someone's here.

Indeed! You found me.

Oh, did you really think I would let you defeat me with that again?

(Grunting)

(Whoosh)

Dad!

(Groaning)

Are you okay? Dad?

(Groans)

(Gasps)

So, tell me... (Gasps) was this how you imagined your story playing out?

(Gasps)

Actually, yes.

It is.

Quite a (Grunts) twist, don't you think?

Huh.

Oh, Jekyll always tries to get the better of me, but he never can.

Do you know why?

It's because he's all mind, no heart, which makes him a very dull and predictable boy, indeed.

You switched vials.

Well, I couldn't very well let you have it, now, could I?

What is it you want?

Oh, I think you know the answer to that.

I want to show you the end of our story, and I want to watch you suffer.

Now... take us to Belle.

Now, you're probably wondering what we're doing outside.

These... are your assignments from earlier.

Follow me.

Newton's Third Law every action... has a reaction.

This... is the action.

And this... (Students gasp) is the equal and opposite reaction.

Now, who wants to give it a try?

Hyde: Ah, here we are.

Whatever you're planning, stop.

You might control that dagger now, but you won't always.

And I promise you, if you harm Belle...

You don't need to worry.

I won't harm Belle.

You see, there's one final twist.

I am not the monster you need to worry about.

(Birds chirping)

(Hoofbeats, horse neighs)

Mary?

Henry!

How did you get in here?

(Breathing heavily)

Where's Hyde? Wh-What's going on?

I sent him last night to talk to you.

You brought him here?

That is none of your business.

And I asked you a question.

Where is Hyde? Have you hurt him?

Have I hurt him?!

I am him!

The serum. (Gasps)

You took it.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

You were supposed to love me, not him.

I will never love you.

You're weak, and you're completely mad!

Mary. Mary!

Get off.

Mary, no.

Let me go!

Mary, I did it for you!

(Crying) No, no.

You. You.

Please let me go.

Why couldn't you see that?!

(Screams)

Oh, my word, it's the doctor's daughter!

Man: Someone must've pushed her!

Up there!

(Sobbing)

(Grunts)

Ahh!

(Groaning)

(Knock on door)

Dr. Lydgate: Mary! Mary, is everything okay?

We're coming in.

(Grunts)

(Tea kettle whistling)

Whatever happened... whatever Hyde did to Mary, I'm, uh, sorry.

If only she'd been strong enough to resist Hyde, she would be mine.

Yours?

I mean, we'd... we'd... we'd... we'd... be together.

Yeah.

Oh, let me... let me get some sugar for you.

(Gasps)

Whoops.

You weren't getting the sugar.

Killian, help!

Ahh!

(Exhales sharply)

(Grunts)

Belle!

(Gasps)

(Grunts)

Rumple, lift the spell!

I can't.

What's going on? Who's on the boat with her?

The real villain, of course.

No. Get away from me!

I didn't come all this way to stop now.

After all, when I heard you were trapped aboard this ship, I couldn't believe my good luck.

Finally, the chance I needed to make the Dark One pay.

But please, she's got nothing to do with this.

Neither did Mary.

Please, please, please don't do this.

(Baton humming)

That's quite enough of that.

(Grunts)

(Gasps)

This story isn't over yet.

Dark One...

I command you...

(Gasps)

(Groans)

(Gasps)

(Groans)

Well... it appears there was one final twist.

(Sighs)

There you are.

Looks like you got what you wanted.

Now we know the serum works.

It wasn't the serum.

Hyde destroyed it.

Then how the hell is he dead?

I think we have just discovered the only foolproof way to destroy one's doppleganger... by k*lling the original.

Wait. You're saying... the way to take out the Evil Queen...

Is to k*ll you.

You okay?

I have to die.

What?

To stop the Evil Queen, I have to die.

That's how it works.

That's not the only bad news I got today.

We all thought Jekyll was the good one.

But even though he separated himself from the darkness... the capacity for evil remained.

And it remains in you.

It can grow back at any time.

You're stronger than Jekyll.

Maybe.

But if I'm not...

Back in Camelot, when you were the Dark One, you said you trusted me to do what it took to keep your family safe.

I need you to promise me you'll do the same thing if it comes to that.

I won't let it come to that.

Promise.

You cut your hair.

You noticed.

I would have earlier, but you were too busy trapping me.

Well, I'm sorry.

I-I just wanted to, uh... to make a fresh start.

I don't want to hear it.

You know, you've destroyed two lives where there used to only be one.

You just keep finding new ways to increase the suffering around you, don't you?

That was never my intention.

Well, then what was your intention?

Why did you go to Jekyll in the first place?

What could possibly be worth all of this death and destruction?

Rumplestiltskin: Going somewhere?

Just when things have gotten interesting.

News of what you've done to that poor girl has spread like wildfire throughout the city.

We really let the animal out of the cage with you, didn't we?

I didn't k*ll Mary!

(Giggles) You're gonna have to do better than that.

(Crying) You have to believe me. It was Jekyll.

Such passionate defense!

I could never, not to Mary.

You loved her.

Very much.

How can you be so weak?!

(Gasping)

Now all of this is failure... complete and utter failure.

My experiment has been a waste.

I should end your miserable life right now!

But... (Groaning) your fate is worse than death.

You shall have to share a life with the weakness inside you.

(Sobbing)

What is all this about?

Why did you do this?

My reasons are just that... mine.

Why?

Why did you do this?

You.

It was all about you.

I sought him out when you became the maid in my castle all those years ago... because I had begun to have feelings for you... and I thought they would make me weak.

A-And you thought what, that Jekyll's serum would rid you of those feelings?

I'd hoped.

But the experiment was a failure.

In anger, I took his precious necklace and sent him to the Land of Untold Stories, but it didn't solve anything.

And I'm glad that it didn't... because I would never want to lose the love I feel for you.

You locked me on that ship like a prisoner.

Did you even think about what would have happened if Jekyll had succeeded, what would have happened to our son?

I was only trying to protect you.

I don't need your protection, okay?

Not at the cost I keep paying with you.

God, you didn't... you didn't cut your hair for me.

You cut it for you because you are sick and tired of looking at the man in the mirror.

But you forget...

I always see you for who you are.

Yeah.

No, um... you may not think that you need me, Belle, but you will.

You forget whose child it is you're carrying.

He will have a mark on his head by virtue of who he is, and if you want what's best for him... you will come back to me.

Threats won't make me love you again, Rumple.

No.

But necessity will.

Good night.

Oh, wait. I have something for you.

(Chuckles)

What's that for?

It's a tradition in this world that, for personal reasons, I just can't get behind.

But they're delicious. Enjoy.

Thank you.

Mm.

See you tomorrow.

Hey.

That princess from your kingdom... did she ever fix things there?

I left for the Land of Untold Stories, but... I don't think so.

Maybe someday.

Maybe.

Good night, Snow.

(Crickets chirping)

You can come out now.

Where have you been?

I had to wait until dark to make sure it was safe.

Then they still don't know who you really are?

They have no idea.

And what of your mission?

Have you found any evidence he's here?

No.

But I know he is.

I've foreseen it.

I did not come this far and sacrifice so much only to give up on finding Aladdin.

I know, and I won't leave your side until we do.

I promise you, we will find him, Jasmine.
