I...

MAGNUM: When Robin Masters offered me the job as live-in security consultant as a way to supplement my P.I. business, I jumped at it.

[Magnum yells]

Higgins!

[barking]

This is Juliet Higgins.

She lives in the main house, works here as Robin's majordomo.

We work really well together.

[all grunting]

HIGGINS: Magnum, are you about to ask me to become your partner?

Higgins and Magnum Private Investigations.

Still up for consideration.

I just need a little more time.

Katsumoto.

When Dotson hired you, did he mention a girl?

Any woman in his life?

No.

KATSUMOTO: Okay.

You know you just lied to a cop.

KATSUMOTO: You know, just when I was starting to trust you, you go and do something stupid like this.

Do yourself a favor, Magnum.

Try to cooperate.

Who the hell are you?

I'm a private investigator.

So you're a private d*ck.

Stay away from me, got it?

HIGGINS: You like her.

I do not like her.

If you like her, you'll bring her flowers and apologize.

I don't like her.

Liar.

I'm sorry.

I was just doing my job.

But would you go out with me again?

I've got the Phoenix.

Where?

You're not gonna believe it.

Damn.

She's good.

TC: Stay on her, White Knight.

You got this.

He better.

That thumb drive she stole is full of classified intel.

That gets out, you know what that means.

Yeah, spies everywhere will be found and ex*cuted.

Yeah, and probably tortured in between.

Right.

So no pressure.

Pressure's your middle name, baby.

[both laugh]

ABBY: Hold up.

"Pressure's your middle name"?

Seriously?

Who says that?

You can put it down whenever you want.

Oh, don't get me wrong.

I like it.

It's a little cheesy, but it's a good read.

I don't know.

I'm barely on chapter five, and I have to say, I think it's one of Robin's best ones yet.

Huh.

And all of these books are based on real missions?

According to Robin, yes.

This White Knight character-- he's what, like, a composite based on a whole bunch of real people?

Maybe.

I don't know.

Nobody really knows.

You have to admit, he's kind of like a romance novel cliché.

Look.

MAGNUM: Actually, he's based on me, but until I know Abby a little better, I should probably keep that to myself.

"Compassionate, monogamous." Really?

What if I told you...

he was a real person?

Well, I'd marry him tomorrow.

Really?

Yeah.

Hold that thought.

Okay.

Be right back.

Okay.

[both chuckle]

[Zeus growling]

Easy.

Easy, boy.

[growling]

It's o-it's okay.

Easy.

Easy, boy.

Shh.

Shh, shh, shh, shh.

[barks, growls]

Easy boy.

Come on.

Calm down.

Hey, Higgins?!

Higgins?

[both continue growling]

It's okay.

Higgins!

Shh.

Easy, boy.

Good boys.

Stand down.

Evening, Magnum.

I can't believe you had these hyenas guarding the wine cellar.

How did you even know I was gonna be down here?

Oh, it was quite simple, really.

I spotted you creeping across the grounds with a bottle of 2006 Chateau Latour Bordeaux, and I estimated how long it would take two lusting individuals to finish a bottle without proper decanting, and thus deduced when you would be back to steal another.

You need a hobby.

I have one.

It's catching thieves.

No.

Actually, I think it's busting my stones for your own personal amusement.

You know, I thought this kind of thing was gonna end now that we're gonna be business partners.

Need I remind you I have yet to accept your offer.

Oh, right.

You're still thinking about it.

That's right.

You know what I don't get is last week, you said you wanted to sit down to go over my offer, check out the books, make sure you were making an informed decision.

Mm-hmm.

Yet, every time I try to talk about it, you put it off.

Do you enjoy just making me wait for an answer?

Being majordomo of this estate is a huge responsibility, Magnum.

I'm a very busy woman.

Yet you still find time to stake out a wine cellar.

You know what?

I'm actually glad you keep putting it off, because, I've been thinking.

Maybe this whole partner thing is... is just not a great idea.

You know, it's not like I need you.

Really, Magnum?

Reverse psychology?

You think that ploy will work?

What am I, six?

It's not a ploy.

I just realized that I am better off without you.

Plus, I'd have to make new business cards.

[chuckles]

You need me and you know it.

I can get my own laptop.

You know how many times I've heard that?

[Kumu clears throat]

MAGNUM: Hey, Kumu.

Hey.

Is everything all right?

Uh, some man named Charlie just called the house line looking for Thomas.

Sounded like an emergency.

He said he needed to see you right away.

Then the phone call cut out.

I-I tried him back right away, but it went to voice mail.

So this is all you got-- the phone number?

I'm sorry, Thomas.

Oh.

So now you need me.

Can you ping the number?

Front door looks open.

Mr. Owens?

It's Thomas Magnum.

You called?

Mr. Owens?

Thomas Magnum.

You called the house looking for me.

MAN: In here.

[pounding]

In here.

Mr. Owens.

I'm locked inside!

Okay, stay back from the door.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Leanna?

What happened?

Who locked you in there?

It was my wife.

Leanna?

Your wife locked you in?

She's been acting a little crazy lately.

Any idea why?

A couple weeks ago the bank she works at got held up.

She just hasn't been the same person since it happened.

Uh, the Makai Bank?

I heard about it.

It was all over the news.

The bank manager was k*lled 'cause he wouldn't let the robbers into the vault.

That was Albert.

He and Leanna were close.

She took it hard.

Then tonight, I confronted her over something I saw on her computer and she lost it.

She locked me in there.

I did not want the police to see what was on there, so I called you.

What was it that you found?

MAGNUM: "How to buy a g*n on the black market." She'd been researching it for over a week.

Wouldn't tell me why.

The day the bank got robbed, she wasn't even supposed to be there, but after I stopped working, she's been picking up extra shifts.

You can't blame yourself for what happened.

Mr. Owens...

don't worry.

Okay?

We'll find your wife.

♪ HIGGINS: Magnum, Leanna was involved in a bank robbery.

She probably wanted the g*n for protection.

Then why not say that?

And if she wasn't feeling safe, why leave the safety of your own home?

Then she locks her husband in a closet...

None of what she's doing is making sense.

KUMU: Well, you won't find any answers in her financials.

This woman might be the most boring human on the planet.

Why do you say that?

Well, according to her debit card bill, she has lunch at the Likelike Diner almost every day.

And it's always for the same amount, $8.25.

Okay, so she's getting the same thing every time.

Then on Tuesdays, she takes out $100 from an ATM across town.

Why drive across town to go to an ATM when you work at a bank?

I don't know, but it happened like clockwork until a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like Leanna's a creature of habit.

Yeah, like I said: boring.

Okay, we're gonna hop off, but thanks, Kumu.

I only followed Miss Higgins' instructions.

Kumu, you make an excellent hacker.

Just don't tell anyone with a badge.

Aloha.

Aloha.

Aloha.

We got to find some way to get into Leanna's head.

You know, she wouldn't talk to her husband Charlie about the robbery, but she had to talk to the police.

[phone rings]

What?

MAGNUM: Katsumoto.

Hey, did you get my macadamia nuts?

Every day for the last three weeks.

Delicious, right?

Well, I wouldn't know, since I'm allergic to nuts.

Oh.

So, epic fail there, huh?

Not if you were trying to k*ll me.

Now, what do you want?

And don't say you need a favor.

Uh, I just need a little help with something.

I'm ten minutes away.

I won't be here.

Uh, please.

I...

I-It's important.

I just need you to slip me a report.

It's not a big deal.

I'm hanging up now.

Keep calling me, I'll book you for stalking.

What do you think-- still mad about what happened in Myanmar?

Course he is.

Magnum, you were harboring a fugitive.

I had no choice.

That's rubbish.

You could have told him exactly what was happening with Hannah and trusted him not to say anything, but you didn't.

And now you're paying the price.

So, that's it?

You're just giving up?

No.

I'm gonna go see Rick, see if one of his HPD buddies can slip us the report.

How'd you know I was here?

Tracked your phone.

Oh, come on, like you've never had a panda eye before.

What happened?

Uh, I had to throw down with some guy at the club last night.

So now you're b*ating up your customers.

Is that good for business?

Guy was being a d*ck.

Said he was an influencer and because he threw the club on the 'Gram, he thought he should get free drinks.

I'm like, "Hey, Fyre Festival.

All your followers are bots." And I guess that got him really upset, because this millennial assclown took a swing at me when I turned my back.

Anyway, no big deal.

Thanks for bailing me out.

I'll pay you back.

Look, don't worry about it.

Pay us back with a favor.

Oh.

So you need something.

Here I was thinking you actually cared about me.

We do care.

Yeah.

We just also happen to need a favor.

♪ RICK: My HPD buddy said that cell phone video was taken by one of the bank hostages.

MAGNUM: Okay, there's Leanna.

[quietly]: Don't do it.

Please, leave her alone.

MAN [distorted]: I told you, get back down.

[g*nf*re]

[gasping, screaming]

[sighs]

What did you do?

Albert!

Albert!

Okay, so Albert jumps into hero mode, comes to Leanna's defense, and takes a b*llet for it.

That poor woman must be consumed with guilt.

Yeah.

She could be looking to hurt herself, which would explain her trying to get her hands on a g*n.

[phone rings]

Yes, Kumu?

I think we were wrong.

Leanna's not a creature of habit after all.

Turns out, this morning, she withdrew $500 from an ATM at the Sportsmen's f*ring Range.

sh**ting range?

Kumu, are you sure?

I'm positive.

Okay, well, she's definitely not thinking su1c1de.

Why would you go to a sh**ting range if you're trying to k*ll yourself?

Yeah, I'm with Thomas.

That'd be weird.

Agreed.

So this isn't about grief or remorse.

Then what's it about?

Leanna lost someone close to her.

It-it could be that she feels responsible.

We know she's been distant from her husband and intent on buying a g*n.

And-and now she's going to a f*ring range?

Which means this isn't about being suicidal or being scared.

It's about revenge.

[muffled g*nshots]

Higgy, you mind if I borrow your phone?

Got to call Abby.

What's wrong with your phone?

Battery's dead.

Hey, Abby.

It's Thomas.

Just wanted to call and see if you had finished Robin's book.

It's no wonder Abby finds you irresistible.

Don't be jealous.

Look, some guy will be asking you to hit him up when you're free when, I don't know, hell freezes over.

[chuckles]

MANAGER: Sorry to keep you waiting.

So, how can I help you?

Wanted to know if you recognize this woman.

Name's Leanna.

Yeah, she was in this morning.

She's actually been coming in a lot the last two weeks.

Why are you asking about her?

Because, as of last night, she was reported missing.

Well, she seemed fine this morning.

That's a nice watch.

It's a Rolex, right?

Uh, yeah.

It's pretty sharp.

How long have you had it?

Not that long.

You mind if I...

I'm kind of a Rolex guy myself.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I really got to get back.

You know what's funny about that watch?

Is that watch looks...

HIGGINS: So it would appear you're wearing a timepiece that belongs to a now missingwoman.

I'm sure you can appreciate how that looks.

Perhaps you'd like to talk to us, as opposed to HPD.

It was compensation.

Okay?

She wanted to buy a g*n, some a*mo.

Under the table.

Daily target practice and an untraceable g*n.

I mean, I would say that revenge is a pretty solid theory right now.

Yeah, but Leanna would have to know who these thieves are.

And like everybody else in the bank, she couldn't identify 'em.

But sometimes witnesses recall details after the fact.

It's possible that Leanna remembered something that was said or something that she saw that day that helped her identify the men.

You know what I keep bumping up on though?

Is why did she alert the authorities.

I mean, uh, she decides to go after these guys herself and get some payback?

I mean, she's, like, an ordinary citizen.

I know it sounds like a stretch, but Leanna felt responsible for what happened to Albert Kipono.

A loss like that can cut so deep that Leanna might have felt compelled to do something, no matter how irrational, no matter the cost.

MAGNUM: Higgins has some personal experience when it comes to revenge, so my gut is telling me to trust her on this one.

[phone dings]

What's that?

Text from Kumu.

MAGNUM: Maybe it's being alone in the car with a long drive back to Robin's Nest, but my little voice was telling me that Katsumoto may not have been wrong suspecting Leanna.

I still don't think she k*lled Wells, but something about the blood on her hands wasn't adding up.

If Leanna wanted Wells dead, then why try to save him?

I can really only think of one reason.

MAGNUM: When a theory proves true, it usually feels pretty good.

But not today.

What's going on?

Turn around.

Put your hands behind your back.

But wait, I didn't k*ll him.

Maybe not, but you're still under arrest.

Leanna, we know what you did.

We know about Wells.

You know that diner you used to go to every day?

Wells worked there, right?

That's where you met him.

You fell for him.

He offered you an escape from your everyday life.

And then at some point, you two hatched a plan to rob a bank.

He said he knew a couple of guys that can help, and, I-I don't know, maybe it was their idea.

Maybe they had him seduce you.

But either way, you went along with it.

Soon as the plan went sideways, your boyfriend disappeared.

Go ahead and stop me whenever you want.

Uh, speaking for myself, can you keep going?

I'd like to know what happened.

Same here.

Yeah, me, too.

She wanted to go after her accomplices.

Problem was Wells never introduced her to his partners.

And because they always met at a motel, she never knew where Wells lived.

Then she used his tattoo to track him down.

MAGNUM: Then you tipped off Dex, and he...

called the third guy up, had him put a b*llet in Wells right before you got there.

He promised no one was gonna get hurt.

Gold star.

Anything?

They weren't on long enough.

RICK: Okay.

So, what now?

12:00 noon.

That's 30 minutes from now.

Doesn't give us much time.

They did that intentionally.

They knew the deadline would preclude any large-scale HPD involvement.

Which means our best move is to wait for the deadline, then ask for more time.

Yeah, there's no way they're gonna go for that.

Thomas?

Hey.

ABBY: I just came by to return your book.

Look, let her get the cash u-uh, take it to them, w-we can monitor from a distance.

Magnum, you can't be serious.

This woman is a criminal.

You want me to let her rob a bank that she tried to rob once before?

It wouldn't be robbing a bank.

That won't hold up in court.

Thank you.

But the insanity defense might work.

Although, the burden of proof would be on the defendant.

All due respect, Counselor, I'm gonna take this idea off the table.

Okay.

This is the only idea that should be on the table.
