Thank you.

Both of you.

Well, I am actually here to surprise my girlfriend.

- She's not here.

- What, did the Rebuild U.S. group move on already?

Ain't nobody been up here to help us rebuild.

Maksim Myshkin.

And you are from?

I told you already.

Well, breakfast is ready.

It's one of the perks of life aboard the Michelle.

You get Michelle's famous French toast.

You know you don't have to cook for me every day, right?

I know the mess hall food isn't pretty.

I figured you'd like something real to eat.

Well, I happen to like the mess hall food.

And I didn't ask you to pull me out of school so you could try to buy me off with Mom's French toast.

You know how many favors I had to call in to get you cleared for this?

And I didn't pull you out of anything.

You're still taking your classes remotely while you're here.

You are doing that, right?

Of course, but this is my final semester.

I should be spending these last few months with my classmates, not here, on a boat smaller than my dorm, bunking with my dad.

Come on.

I'm a good roommate.

I'm not quitting Students for Humanity, and I'm just guessing, but these country's issues aren't gonna be over today, or tomorrow, or even in this decade.

I think what you're doing is amazing.

And to say I'm incredibly proud of you would be an understatement.

But?

I'm still worried that even if it's good trouble, you could jeopardize your standing at Annapolis.

Well, what if it isn't a problem?

Maybe I've been exploring other options.

We've both been through a lot over the past few weeks.

I don't think now is the time to make rash decisions.

It's not a rash decision.

I've been thinking about this since before the school year started.

So you feel like there's so much in the world that needs to change?

Annapolis could be part of that change.

I mean, they already are.

You see who they named a new brigade commander?

Sydney Barber, the first Black female in the role.

Yeah, I heard.

All I'm saying is, you could do so much good there.

Annapolis was always your dream, right, or is that not the case?

This isn't over, all right?

Until I come back... rule 29.

CALLEN: What about his claim that he works for Cherneft?

Again, his credentials seem legit.

I mean, if this is backstopping, this is next level.

Likely state sponsored.

Well, Cherneft is state-run, so it's not out of the question.

But to what end?

I don't know, but it's starting to seem like Carlson was telling the truth when she said DOJ weren't the ones trailing me.

Still, despite our doubts, we don't have anything to hold him on.

Well, he's not gonna talk anyway, so, it's better to cut him loose, see where he goes.

I'll drop him off.

Why don't you have Rountree meet me so he can pick up his tail?

Copy that.

Hey.

Any developments with Callen's tail?

Not yet, but, uh, what's up with your alert?

Oh, strange things are afoot.

I received this rather concerning e-mail from Hetty this morning.

"Listen, I really need you "to pick up some things for the party.

"The store on Route 40 should have everything, "and it's open 24 hours.

"I left a list in the bottom left drawer of my desk, "but do make sure you get 25 buns, four pounds of ground beef, 15 eggs..." Okay, obviously, this is a code of some sort?

That's not what's concerning me.

It's the ending.

"The guests are arriving today and liable "to be irritated when they get here.

"If the table isn't set, the family will pay a terrible price." The family.

- [sighs]

- This sounds like she's - warning about a thr*at to the team.

- Mm-hmm.

You think it's related to what's going on with Callen?

It's very possible.

One thing she's made clear: Whatever this thr*at is, it's going down today.

DEEKS: So, either you're right and that's a code, or we better hope that NCIS has a Costco card.

But why would she send us a message like this?

I mean, she's been able to communicate through safer routes before.

Maybe she had no other choice, couldn't get to a secure line in time.

This was the only thing I found in the bottom left drawer of Hetty's desk, a book of poetry by Emily Dickinson.

- Hmm.

- Wait.

Poems were used to encode messages in the second World w*r, right?

That they were.

So if that's her encryption source, then these first numbers should point to the key.

Okay.

Route 40.

Try page 40.

"We never know how high we are "till we are called to rise, "and then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the skies." NELL: Okay, so, "24 hours" would translate to the 24th word of the poem on that page.

Which is "touch." NELL: Okay.

Well, it is a short code, so...

First step would be to rearrange the letters of the key in alphabetical order.

Now, the remaining numbers also represent letters, as well, so we order them in accordance with the key.

We convert them to their respective letters.

Ydodb Rosit?

That scoundrel is back in town?

He didn't call me.

Patience, young Padawan.

It's still scrambled.

But if we revert the key back to its original spelling, we get...

KENSI: We get...

We get dobyd istro.

Doby Distribution?

Is that a company?

NELL: Yeah, and it looks like they have land in East L.A.

- Address is in our phone?

- Yeah.

Sam's still in the car.

I'll reroute him to meet you.

- Great.

- Yep.

Cloak and dagger.

I like it.

I just hope this isn't a laser mission.

A what?

I'm sorry, what's that?

A laser mission?

It's a movie that, despite its title, disappointingly had no actual lasers, so I'm trying to make it into a thing.

Like, "I hope this isn't a wild-goose chase" - but cooler.

- [Exhales]

Sorry.

- Hold on a second.

- Ooh.

[Chuckles]

Sorry.

Hey.

- You okay?

- Yeah.

Just, um...

[exhales]

Sorry, I'm just feeling really dizzy all of a sudden.

- All right.

- Let's, um, let's just go sit down.

- Uh, yeah.

- Yeah.

- You're okay.

You're good.

Let's just take a seat.

Nice and easy.

And I will grab you a water.

Uh, with the injections, there could be possible side effects.

Yeah.

We don't have time for side effects.

Listen, I'm-I'm sure that this is nothing, but the doctor did say that there's a small percentage of people that have a serious reaction, so maybe you should, you know, work the case from here.

- Mm.

- Just in case.

- That's not gonna happen.

- Okay?

Okay.

I just need, um, I just need a sec.

Okay.

[sighs]

You all right?

Uh, no.

Hey.

No.

We cannot risk you getting hit with a wave of this while you're in the field.

Do you know how dangerous that would be?

And I'm sure that your body is just adjusting to the hormones, and I'm sure that it's fine.

And I'm sure that you're fine.

Hey.

But we need to play it safe until we know what's going on.

I just want you to be healthy.

Do you trust me?

I trust you.

I just want you to be safe.

Just keep me updated, okay?

I'm only a phone call away.

As am I.

I love you.

I love you.

It's gonna be fine, I promise.

You're free to go.

I see you following me again, the next car you ride in the back of, it's not gonna be this nice.

I'm very sorry for the confusion.

ROUNTREE: I got him.

Keep your distance.

He's gonna be on high alert now.

Copy that.

[sighs]

What up?

What's wrong?

Pray you never have kids.

Kam and I got into it this morning and now she's breaking the rules again and not returning my text messages.

I'm sure she's fine.

Oh, I know she's fine.

Motion detectors are going off, so she's on the boat.

She's just not talking to me.

Well, with Big Father watching, what do you expect?

Hetty went to great lengths to get us here.

Do we even know what we're looking for?

I honestly have no idea.

But for a distributing company, they don't seem to be doing much distributing.

I haven't seen a single employee since I arrived.

I don't see any signs of a main office.

It's a big lot.

Let's split up, cover more ground.

All right, as long as you promise to text.

[laughs]

Hey.

Change of plans.

Oh, I know.

Deeks told me about your back.

Um...

That you threw it out this morning?

Yes.

Old injury.

So, um, do we have anything on Doby Distribution?

No, not yet.

I mean, they have, like, zero online presence.

No official website or social media.

And their ownership traces through a series of shell companies.

I could use some help sifting through them.

Yeah.

Sure.

[phone ringing]

[exhales]

Hey, Rountree?

What's the update on Maksim?

Man, this guy is k*lling me, G.

He hasn't left the area.

He's, like, on his fourth cup coffee, too.

Must have a bladder of steel.

He hasn't gone to the bathroom yet.

All right, he hasn't made you, has he?

[scoffs]

Come on, G.

Of course not.

Oh.

I might have something here.

Looks like he's getting into the SUV that you saw this morning.

All right, stay with him.

Will do.

[car passes]

Hey, Nell?

You don't have an update on Captain Gonchgarov, do you?

Uh, he's still in bad shape, not out of the coma yet, and there haven't been any further sightings of Zasha Gagarin since she poisoned him.

Why?

What's up?

Not much.

That's the problem.

All my Russian contacts are dead ends, and I can't get a hold of Arkady.

Hetty's code hasn't turned up any Russian connections yet, either, so could be completely separate from your tail.

Yeah, well, either way, it's starting to feel like we're being obstructed.

Russia might be spooked we're circling their mole, now they're pulling their pieces back?

Or we've overplayed our hand.

Still nothing over here.

You?

Nada.

Man, this place is deserted.

So, what happened?

Kam break curfew?

She said she didn't want to go to Annapolis anymore.

Whoa.

Wow.

That's, uh...

It's huge.

Makes me feel like I don't even know who she is anymore.

So what are you gonna do?

Not sure.

I don't want her to throw this opportunity away.

It's all she's ever dreamed of, you know?

You know what?

Let me tell you a story of my buddy Darrel Donkins.

- Deeks, you really don't have...

- So the Donkins family's known far and wide because their, uh, the dad...

Darrel's dad...

Owns the biggest auto dealership in Reseda.

They had these amazing commercials.

He'd say, [Southern accent]: "There ain't no beatin' a Donkin's deal.

Hi-yah!" Okay, could you fast-forward to the point?

[regular accent]: So my buddy Darrel, right, heir apparent, being groomed to take over the family throne, one day he wakes up and he says, "I don't want to run an auto dealership, I want to go into zoology." "Zoology?" His parents freak out, they're not pleased.

More importantly, they don't accept it.

Deeks, there's a big difference between inheriting an auto dealership in Reseda and getting into Annapolis.

Yeah, no, of course, and I'm sure Kam's interests are different than zoology.

My point is that Kam and Darrel share one thing, and that is passion for something else, right?

'Cause push came to shove, and Darrel chose zoology.

Last time I heard, he moved out to Sacramento and ran a reptile zoo outside of the city, and by all accounts he's very happy.

So it all worked out?

Well, not exactly, because Darrel's parents never accepted it.

And when he moved up there, they stopped talking to him.

Listen, I-I know that you feel like you don't know who Kam is right now, but I guess what I'm pitching is this...

this is the opportunity to get to know her, right?

A-And, and the real her.

I don't know how long that window's gonna be open.

You know, Deeks, I never would've thought this when we first met, but someday you're gonna make a great father.

Thanks, man.

[muffled g*nshots]

You hear that?

g*nshots.

Moving.

Got two bodies.

Looks like Hetty's party got started without us.

Yes, it does.

Uh, neither victim have I.D.s.

Last photo coming to you now.

Thank you, Fatima.

All right, Ops is gonna run facial rec.

LAPD's en route.

Yeah.

This one's armed, too.

He didn't even get a chance to get his g*n out.

Ambush?

That's what I'm thinking.

[clinking]

Got some brass here.

I got a blood trail.

Looks like the sh**t may not have gotten away unscathed.

SAM: Blood trail stops here.

Must've hopped in a vehicle.

DEEKS: I'll have Ops check for GSWs at local hospitals.

I'll sweep.

See if the cameras caught anybody - coming or going.

- Got it.

I hear there's a princess stuck in a castle somewhere around here.

About yea tall, chestnut eyes, cutest smile you ever seen.

Kinda like that one.

Oh.

No helpless princesses over here.

You might want to try the next slip over.

You know...

- - Oh.

Oh, all right then.

Okay, I see you.

You know you're supposed to ask for permission before you come on a boat.

[clears throat]

Permission to come aboard?

Granted.

Heading somewhere?

That's why I called you.

I'm going back to the academy.

A prison break of sorts.

I thought you might want to come with.

Okay.

Your dad know you're going?

He doesn't need to.

He can't keep me here forever.

Have you tried talking to him?

I told him about Annapolis today.

'Kay.

How'd that go?

About as well as I figured it would.

Still.

- What do you mean?

- [sighs]

I thought you'd have my back on all this.

Look, your dad will go ballistic if he comes back and you're gone.

I'm gonna write him a note.

It's not gonna be like I just vanished.

Look, I was with him when he was looking for you.

I may have only met him once, under strange circumstances, but...

it's very clear he cares about you, so much.

He'll come around.

I'm not so sure.

If there's one thing I know, it's you know how to get your point across.

But...

I can't be a part of this.

If you want to go, go, you have my support, but...

I'll find my own ride back up north.

Okay?

Call me when you make it.

Callen, Maksim just arrived at a cabin in Angeles National Forest.

Are they alone?

No.

I got three other armed guys and another vehicle on site.

Set up overwatch.

I'll come to you.

All right, let me know if anybody shows up.

Thanks.

Hey, Kens.

What's up?

Hey.

Uh, so, still no g*nsh*t wounds.

I'm thinking maybe they patched themselves up.

Or maybe they didn't, and there's a body out there.

Gosh, hopefully not.

Either way, I still have a few more ERs left to check.

Ooh.

God, how's your back?

My back is fine.

I didn't throw out my back.

Oh.

Okay.

Then, uh, what's going on?

Um... today I had some side effects because Deeks and I have started our fertility hormone treatments.

Kens, that's-that's so exciting.

Uh, I don't know if it's exciting, but, um, terrifying, for sure.

No, sure, I-I...

I suppose venturing into the unknown always is, but, I mean, how are you doing?

I'm on an emotional roller-coaster, man.

Yeah.

I'm battling my body every single day, and I'm trying not to show it.

Plus we're still trying to close on the house, and today I had side effects that I knew might be a possibility but I was really, really, really, really hoping that they wouldn't happen.

I haven't even had any mood swings yet which are definitely going to come and somehow, this is just the beginning.

If there is anyone who can handle this...

And I mean this...

if there's anyone out there, it's you.

But if you need anything, and I'm talking anything, like pickles, or ice cream, pickle-flavored ice cream, call me up.

I'm here for you.

As your "kind of for now" boss, but as your always friend.

Thank you.

My girl.

LAPD's working the scene.

Kensi struck out at the hospitals.

You find anything?

The car they likely arrived in.

No cameras.

Not a single one in this entire complex.

Which is odd, right?

For a business that seemingly should have a plethora of goods on board?

Extremely.

FATIMA: Guys, I've got some bad news.

I found some anomalies trying to run our victims through the database, and we just got a FLASH message on the high side from Langley telling us that they're taking over the scene.

Langley?

Does that mean what I think it means?

Our dead bodies could be CIA.

That would fit the pattern of the data I found.

All right, run it past Sabatino, see if he can shed some light.

I already did, and he's still chasing those superbills and has no knowledge of what went down here.

Or so he claims.

CIA could be behind Doby.

They could be using this place for off-the-books operations.

Which would explain the trail of shell companies, and the total lack of cameras.

Plus, CIA involvement...

It's probably why Hetty contacted us the way she did.

Yeah.

The question is, what is the CIA working on that's so important she would warn us from halfway around the world?

Hmm?

Area clear?

Yeah.

They're the only ones here right now.

I count five so far.

They're all outside.

Hold up, looks like there's another.

Someone's coming out.

Son of a bitch.

What is it?

Anna.

So we have a mysterious tip from Hetty, some sort of botched CIA op, and now Anna shows up in our backyard with a bunch of Russians?

I mean, there's no way this isn't all connected.

Yeah, well, the question is how?

I know one way to find out.

What are you gonna do, go up there and knock on their door?

I'm tired of playing games.

If they wanted to hurt me, they could've.

Maksim was just trying to get away.

I'll get the long g*n out just in case.

- How's the vacation going?

- MAKSIM: Hey, hey, hey.

Speaking Russian...

What are you doing here?

- [door opens]

- ANNA: It's okay, Maks.

Come in.

We can talk inside.

They're headed inside, but I've got a good vantage point.

[indistinct radio transmission]

Great.

The SEAL and the hyphenate.

I should've known your team would be involved in this mess.

What are you doing here?

I thought the CIA pulled rank.

My task force pulled rank on them.

- It's my scene now.

- Oh.

In that case, we have some questions.

DEEKS: For our after-action report, because as you know, we are very detailed, and very by the book.

In the spirit of interagency cooperation, I'll give you 30 seconds, but speak fast, you're on the clock.

I shouldn't have to remind you that the CIA doesn't operate on U.S. soil.

- Correction, the CIA doesn't conduct intelligence operations on American citizens.

They very much do operate on U.S. soil.

So this wasn't an op targeting an American citizen.

- Good to know.

- Who said this was an op?

Well, if it looks like an op and smells like an op...

And this is a building owned by a CIA shell company.

You two have an active imagination, I'll give you that.

DEEKS: So the CIA is targeting a foreign national on U.S.

soil.

What's that about?

That's, uh, servicing a dead drop?

Nah.

There are easier ways to do that.

This was off the grid.

Likely an asset who trusted the CIA.

Someone they worked a while, maybe even tried to flip.

A defection.

Nay, nay, nay, a defection gone wrong.

So the question is, who was the defector?

That's my time.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.

Au Contraire, mon ami.

I think you've been quite helpful.

This really necessary?

I don't know, Callen.

You tell us.

ROUNTREE: They just took out Callen's earwig.

Is this one of the units you built for your charity?

It's not bad.

CALLEN [over comm]: It's a little far from Santa Cruz.

I've got ears.

FATIMA: We're picking it up.

I was just there recently.

I, uh...

Well, I thought I'd surprise you.

I'm sorry.

I can explain.

Please do.

Katya is back.

I got wind she reappeared a few months ago.

I knew she'd come after me, so I had to get out of town until I could assess the danger.

But then the threats started coming.

Against you, Arkady.

Anna, why wouldn't you call me?

I can help with that.

I knew I had to work outside the lines, in ways you couldn't.

Look, Russia wanted to reacquire their rogue agent, so I used Arkady's contacts to join the team that's hunting her down to bring her back.

So these guys, they're...

FSB.

I knew you wouldn't condone it, but I'm not a government agent anymore, and our interests align.

Look, they were the ones tailing you.

Protecting you.

I don't need protecting.

And it's not just about me.

I haven't been able to see Alex or Jake through this whole thing.

That is my family, Anna.

And I had to stay away from Arkady.

Look, I'm sorry, Callen, but this was my problem to solve, and there's nothing I wouldn't do to keep you safe.

You'd do the same for me, and you know it.

[phone ringing]

ANNA: What's going on?

This make sense to any of you guys?

Unfortunately, yes.

Katya Miranova, aka Kate Miller, was a Russian asset that Anna was working while undercover in prison.

After they escaped to Cuba together, Katya fell off the radar.

The theory is she fell from Russia's good graces after leading an undercover agent back to them.

Yeah, let's just say that she's always had an unhealthy obsession with Anna.

Yeah, but something's not adding up here.

I mean, if Katya is here, how did she get into the country without us being alerted?

I mean, she's got to be flagged.

She could have had help from the CIA.

I mean, think about it.

If that botched CIA op was a defection gone wrong, how much you want to bet Katya was the defector?

Carlson's involvement does suggest a Russian angle.

She may have played 'em to get through the door.

ANNA: You have to trust me.

I'll call you if anything changes.

It's Arkady.

He's not happy about the extra security.

I don't blame him.
