[DOOR CLOSES]

MAN: Yo, what's up?

Yo, is this Doug?

I got a BetaBurrito down here with your name on it.

All right!

Come on up.

Oh, uh, sorry, dude, you got to meet me in the lobby.

Excuse me?

Yeah, I got a strict no-elevator policy after midnight.

Seriously?

Like, an actual policy?

Ever since I got mugged, actually.

Dude, this is a very safe building.

I'm sure it is... dude.

But, uh, no exceptions.

This is disappointing.

I hear ya, but, um...

You coming down?

To the lobby?

[INTERCOM CLICKS]

- [PHONE DINGS]

- Hello?

_ [DISTANT SIRENS WAILING]

Really, dude?!

You're that lazy, you can't get off your VR to find your front door?!

[GROANS]

You want me to chew your food for you, too, bro?!

How's this?!

[CHUCKLING]

[CAR DOOR BEEPING]

Oh, no.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, come on!

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

You planning a trip?

What?

No.

I was just...

Yeah, something like that.

You know, we've been cooped up for so long, and things are opening up, I just...

figured I'd try to plan a little vacation.

To Bulgaria?

Hey, do you have any better ideas?

Well, that depends.

On what?

On who I'm going with.

Who are you thinking of going with?

Agent Torres, are you trying to invite yourself on my trip?

Agent Bishop, are you trying to get me to invite myself on your trip?

[CHUCKLING]

Oh, please.

Don't stop.

It really is just delightful.

- Uh, we're just referencing a map here.

- He was just...

In fairness, Bulgaria is a beautiful country.

I actually backpacked through there years ago with some college buddies.

The Krushuna waterfalls are amazing.

- TORRES: Jimmy?

- Yeah?

Do you remember when I asked you about your trip to Bulgaria?

No.

I d...

Oh, okay, never mind.

I'm actually here for McGee anyway.

I thought it was hard to get Gibbs to sign off on case files.

Turns out McGee holds on to his signature like a baby holds onto his baba.

- And he is right behind me, isn't he?

- Mm.

Baba?

Been chasing you for two days, buddy.

- So now I'm Gibbs-ing people, huh?

- Mm.

This job's a lot busier than it looks.

Gear up, guys.

We got a body.

Don't be late.

I won't be.

And, hey...

[WHISPERS]: You're doing great.

Well, it appears to be a g*nsh*t wound to the chest,

- All right, thanks.

- But I'll know more when we lay him flat.

Nick, would you help me out here?

Navy Captain Strauss Tubman, .

Works out of the Pentagon, according to his service record.

What's a Navy officer doing bleeding in a pile of, uh, pizzas at : in the morning?

- Mm.

- Looked like he was getting mugged.

Building camera caught our victim exiting a black vehicle to the right.

Looked like he was carrying a laptop case.

Doesn't have one now.

A man with a mask appeared out of nowhere.

There was a struggle.

Captain got sh*t.

Attacker left him for dead.

TORRES: But before he d*ed, he managed to...

crawl all the way over here for what... for a last meal?

He was likely quite delirious from all the blood loss.

You know, somehow I don't think this was a random att*ck.

Captain Tubman texted his commander before he was k*lled.

Said he thought someone was following him home from his office at the Pentagon.

Get his commander on the line.

Who do you think was after him?

Don't know.

Guess it depends on what he was doing for the Pentagon.

[ENGINE STARTS]

Okay.

So, you and, uh, Agent Bishop seemed awful cozy in the bullpen earlier today.

We have a dead body in front of us.

Right.

Have you guys had the talk yet?

The what?

You know... the talk.

Hey, Jimmy, do you remember when I asked you about dating advice?

No.

I don't.

I...

Damn it, look, hey, it might be awkward, but I think it's pretty obvious the past few months that you and Agent Bishop have gotten...

BOTH: We have a problem.

No, we have a lot of problems right now.

Captain Tubman works with the NMCC.

What's the NMCC?

The National m*llitary Command Center.

And they are?

Those guys are in charge of our nuclear submarine launch codes.

You guys, we should probably focus on finding that laptop.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with "definitely."

- Hey.

- Hey.

Uh, I spoke to Tubman's commander.

She said Tubman worked admin for their encryption researchers.

Yeah, he helped encrypt the Navy's nuclear codes.

BISHOP: Tubman worked on the D.L.

No one outside his department knew what he really did.

They must have a leak.

And a bad one.

I'm waiting for a copy of the personnel records, see if anyone stands out.

Any, uh, GPS on that laptop?

The thief disabled it.

I'm assuming the Pentagon had a failsafe

- for any encryption codes?

- Of course.

The laptop would only have public keys, which are useless without the private ones.

So what was the point of the theft?

Well, maybe the nuclear stuff was a coincidence, and the bad guys were after something else on the laptop.

All right, Nick, why don't you, uh, finish canvassing that neighborhood...

Security cameras.

See if we can get a better angle on the suspect.

Bishop...

Autopsy.

- In fact, I told him it was the worst idea I'd ever heard a human being have.

Ah!

There you are.

KASIE: And so I said, "Yes, great idea, "Dr. Mallard.

Let's set Gibbs up with a tablet "so he can stay in contact with his co-workers back at the office." Oh, let's start with the level.

I don't think he's gonna like the level.

Agent Bishop.

Right on time.

Hey.

What do you got, Jimmy?

I have got a confirmation on the cause of Captain Tubman's death.

That b*llet struck the subclavian artery.

I also found a lot of g*nsh*t

- residue on his hands.

- So he must have been holding onto the attackers' g*n when he fired.

Yeah, if I had to guess, I'd say they were fighting over it.

Which suggests the DNA I found under his fingernails likely came from the k*ller, thanks to that att*ck.

Kasie's running it right now.

- Nice job.

- Thank you.

Is there, uh... is there something else?

Actually, yes.

There is.

When I was calling, uh, Tubman's job, uh, at the crime scene, I overheard you and Nick talking.

- Oh?

Oh.

Oh.

- About me.

And Nick.

And I just want to say there's nothing to talk about.

- The...

Because Nick and I - I didn't mean to overstep...

don't really need to have an official "talk," because we're just friends.

- Of course.

- And not like Gibbs and Sloane were friends.

Do people think that we're like Gibbs and Sloane?

- Not that I'm aware...

- Like, "Are they?

Did they?

- Will they, won't they?"

- Uh...

I mean, what exactly do people think is going on between me and Nick?

Because if people are talking about us behind our back, Jimmy, that's not cool.

Hmm.

Man, I don't know what I walked into, but if Awkward and Uncomfortable got married and had a baby, this would be his sister, Painful.

What do you got, Kase?

I got a hit on that fingernail DNA.

You're looking for a guy named Edgar Proust.

Is it "Prowst"

- or "Proost"?

- Thanks.

I always say "Prowst." Yeah, me, too.

And they definitely need to have the talk.

Actually, we just had, like, atalk.

It was intense.

I don't know what you're talking about, okay?

DNA, Edgar.

Your DNA.

We're talking about your DNA, and we found it under the victim's fingernails.

Prove it.

We have proven it.

That's why we've brought you in here.

Or maybe you just brought me in here to get me to admit to something I didn't do.

Edgar, if you didn't do it, your DNA wouldn't be under the victim's fingernails.

You see how that works?

What else you got?

Okay, we got a g*n out of your gym bag that matches up with a b*llet we pulled from the victim.

We've also got g*nsh*t residue that points to a struggle over the g*n, and it was discharged accidentally.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Nope, doesn't matter.

We have what we need.

Look, I didn't mean to k*ll that guy.

It was the g*n.

He grabbed it and it just went off.

All you wanted was the laptop.

That was it.

They paid me a thousand bucks to grab it.

Who's "they"?

They're not from here.

More like...

Bin Ladenland, if you get my drift.

Okay, did you happen to hear them say anything about encryption nodes?

Not that I heard.

What did they do with the laptop?

They punched in a lot of keys until they got into some kind of website.

Had a logo on it just like that.

Is that helpful?

Can I go now?

- Hey.

- The tech trolls in the basement ran a full systems diagnostic.

- We've been hacked all right.

- How?

That stolen laptop contained some high-level ciphers that allowed the hackers access to a back door in the NCIS mainframe.

Basically, they used the laptop as a sort of Navy Yard master key.

Torres was right.

The nuclear stuff was just a coincidence.

Eh, maybe we don't tell him that part.

Who were the hackers after?

They were digging into a classified NCIS database of old case files, one case in particular.

Which one?

Pulling it up now.

Looks like they accessed the address for a Micki and George Kaydar.

Is it me or does that name ring...

- [BELL CHIMES]

- [LAUGHS]

I've been wanting to do that since I got here.

Oh, come on, you guys don't remember?

Uh, Aunt Micki and Uncle George?

They took custody of Gibbs's neighbor after Gibbs, you know, had a falling out with Phineas's mother.

- You mean k*lled her.

- It was more complicated than that.

Yeah, I remember, I remember.

I also remember Phineas had a Libyan uncle that tried to kidnap him afterwards.

Anyone else got a funny feeling that he's back for round two?

Sorry to call again, but it is very important that you get back to us as soon as possible.

Thank you very much.

No other numbers are listed?

Only the home landline.

- So what do we know?

- We know that after Phineas's mother d*ed, he went to live with his old foster parents Micki and George.

And since the family didn't officially enter the Witness Protection Program...

BISHOP: They did secretly relocate to make sure Phineas's Libyan uncle Hassan Sayegh couldn't find them again.

TORRES: They moved to Pikesville, Maryland, but that information was buried deep into our classified database.

Which the uncle just hacked into.

He put a-a million-dollar bounty out for his nephew last time.

Who knows what he's willing to do this time?

BOLOs?

We sent Hassan's photo to airports, Customs, and Highway Patrol.

TORRES: If he's in the country, he didn't come in the front door.

Let's keep trying the Kaydars' home number.

Let me know when, uh, Baltimore PD gets to their home.

- I'm gonna call Gibbs.

- Are you sure?

He's...

off the clock and he is not gonna take this well.

He's gonna take it a lot worse if we don't call.

[PHONE RINGING]

Hey.

McGee.

You'll be happy to know I'm using my iWhatever.

It's...

What?

When?

Phineas has got a cell phone, I'll try that.

[LINE RINGING]

BARNES: Hello?

Who the hell is this?

Sergeant Barnes.

Maryland State Police.

Where's Phineas?

Who am I speaking to?

Where is Phineas?

Identify yourself.

Special Agent...

I'm with NCIS.

Name is Gibbs.

Where's Phineas?

- [INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER]

- [SIREN WAILING]

There's been an accident.

It appears the vehicle was run off the road.

We've got two adults, badly injured.

What about the boy?

No sign of any boy.

You're talking on his cell phone.

Found it in the back seat.

Listen to me very carefully.

This is not an accident.

This is a kidnapping.

Call NCIS D.C., ask for Special Agent Tim McGee, he will fill you in.

Okay, but, uh...

What hospital are his parents being taken to?

I'm gonna need to run this past my supervisor.

What hospital?

Where?

Shoreside Memorial.

Kase?

In here, Jimmy.

Hey, did I hear right?

Phineas was kidnapped?

- That's what I heard.

- Well, maybe this will help.

Uh, it's some touch DNA I pulled from Proust's hands.

He had some contact with the kidnappers, so maybe we can pull something from it?

Uh, not if he washed his hands since then.

He said he didn't.

- Ew.

- Yeah.

I'll run it, but we already know who took Phineas.

His uncle.

But maybe his uncle has some henchmen that we can track.

[STAMMERS]

Or is it "hench-people" now?

- Thank you.

- Poor Phineas.

He must be so scared right now.

That uncle better hope that Bishop doesn't find him first.

What's that supposed to mean?

Do you not remember the last time that someone tried to kidnap Phineas?

No.

Yes.

No.

I'm sorry.

Victor?

Apple Pie?

Ka-pow?

Yes, oh, yes, that, um, that cheesy club owner Victor.

Yeah.

He kept calling Bishop...

Apple Pie, and then she ka-pow'd him.

Yeah.

Took the creep out with one swing, from what I remember.

Yeah.

Broke his jaw in three places.

Ooh.

Vending machine must have been low on coffee that day.

Yeah, or maybe it was something else.

- Like what?

- Let me ask you, have you noticed that Bishop has just quietly, over the last year, become a very different person?

Uh, I'd like to think we're all a bit different after the past year.

Not that kind of different.

Last week she asked me, did I know it only took five pounds of pressure to crush a human trachea?

I knew that.

How about another ten pounds to rip that trachea out with your bare hands?

How does Bishop know that?

Why does Bishop know that?

And she just mentions this in passing, you know?

Like-like we're talking about the weather.

Yeah, that's, uh, that's different.

Well, maybe she just...

What?

Finish that sentence.

What?

No, you right.

I got nothing.

Right.

But it's clearly something, right?

Hi.

I'm here about the Kaydars.

I called ahead, I talked to a doctor...

Special Agent Gibbs?

You're her?

You're the doctor?

Dr. Hildegard, yes.

I'm sorry I couldn't say anything over the phone.

Are they okay?

I need to see some credentials.

Right.

It's protocol.

If you're not family, only law enforcement can...

Doc, I got out of the house fast.

There's a missing kid out there.

- Can I talk to them or not?

- No.

I mean, they can't talk.

Mr. Kaydar was just taken to emergency surgery to repair internal bleeding.

His condition is quite critical.

What about his wife?

Mrs. Kaydar's in better shape, but not by much.

She suffered a compound fracture to her tibia

- and a concussion that...

- Let me talk to her.

A concussion severe enough to warrant a medically-induced coma to monitor any brain swelling.

Did they say anything about Phineas?

Anything at all?

- Phineas?

- That's the kid.

She was saying "Phinnie" before she lost consciousness.

That's him.

What'd she say?

She was delirious and crying out "Where's Phinnie?

Don't let them get Phinnie."

- Whoever "they" might be.

- Okay.

Thanks, Doc.

Got it.

All right, Gibbs says Phin's foster parents are alive.

And Phineas is officially in the wind.

Bishop, what do you got?

Baltimore PD just checked the Kaydar house and found it ransacked.

Presumably by the same people who ran them off the road.

Why would they ransack the place if Phineas wasn't there?

Maybe looking for a way to find him?

Well, I mean, if they found him, Phin could be halfway to Libya by now.

No, not with BOLOs out everywhere.

Well, let's dig up what we can on this, uh, Hassan guy's movements over the last few months.

Gibbs is gonna want a full update when he gets here.

Wait, Gibbs is coming in?

That's what he said.

After a quick stop home to change.

So that whole suspension thing...

What do you think?

Well, I think Vance is gonna be delighted.

I had nowhere to go.

[WHINING]

[EXHALES SHARPLY]

Good girl.

- You-you sure they're gonna be okay?

- Yeah.

I think Micki and George are okay, and they are in good hands.

Tell me what happened.

We'd just come home from the mall, pulling into our driveway...

[SIGHS]

Wh-when these two creepy guys came running out of our house.

Yeah?

What'd they look like?

One-one tall, one skinny.

- Both ugly.

- [CHUCKLES]

George got us out of there fast, and Micki started calling , but before we knew it, they were in their car trying to make us crash.

I think they were doing more than trying.

I-I was sure we were all gonna die.

Hey, Phin, you're okay.

We hit that tree hard.

Micki started crying... and telling me to run.

They chased you.

I didn't look back to find out.

I left my phone so they couldn't track me.

You-you taught me that.

Sounds like you and George and Micki were all expecting something like this to happen.

They didn't want to scare me, but after we moved closer to you, I knew they were worried about him.

Hassan?

To me, he's the evil uncle I never met.

So I came here and hid.

I figure he doesn't even know about you.

- Does he?

- No, he doesn't.

You're gonna stay here with me until we catch him.

I was hoping you'd say that.

[LUCY WHINES]

When did you get a new dog?

A while ago.

You must have missed me, huh?

Getting rid of me and getting a dog?

- [LINE RINGS]

- [CHUCKLES]

Not exactly.

- MCGEE: Boss?

- Hey, McGee.

I got him.

You didn't miss me?

Hold on.

Phin?

Let me talk to McGee, okay?

Tell him hi for me.

Phin says hi, McGee.

Yeah, no, no, no.

I-I-I heard him.

Thank God he's okay.

Well, uh, how-how'd he even get to you?

I mean, by being one resourceful kid.

Not to mention amazing.

Yeah.

Unbelievable, really.

Yeah, to think of all that he's been through?

Yeah, more than most of us.

- Yeah.

- Which is saying a lot this year.

Mm-hmm.

- So?

- Hmm, so...

what?

Well, I was just thinking that maybe we should talk...

The talk, seriously?

No, I was just thinking that we should talk about how Hassan needed all that muscle to kidnap one kid.

Oh.

[LAUGHS]

Not that it...

hasn't been on my mind.

Us, um...

you know, having a talk.

- Like, eventually we should talk, yeah.

- We should have a talk, yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Mm-hmm.

So when do you think?

I don't know.

When do you think?

MCGEE: All right, boss, talk to you soon.

Hey, how's that for good news, huh?

Oh, it's great, it's great.

Yeah, still no Hassan, though.

Oh, well, what do we have?

We have got word from Interpol.

They picked up chatter in Libya.

Hassan snuck out of the country with three accomplices.

Phineas counted two bad guys, and there's actually four.

Yeah, using fake passports, they, uh, flew out of Tripoli into Toronto, and then on to Dulles two days ago.

They then rented a green minivan at the airport under Hassan's alias.

We have a BOLO out for that, too.

And Kasie is hacking into the GPS.

MCGEE: Well, let's get some real faces to those fake names and see if anyone in the U.S. might be giving these guys cover.

O-On it.

Like I said, from the moment I moved back, it was like I never left.

George is still so funny.

Aunt Micki's just the best.

How's school?

It's okay.

I liked it better before COVID and all, but...

don't you already know all this from the letters you make me write?

Well, sometimes, Phin, it's just nice to hear it in person.

I don't make you do anything.

Yeah, you do.

You write me letters and expect one in return.

I never even heard the word "pen pal" until you came along.

Hey, go sit down.

It's hard to write a good letter, Phin.

It's a lost art.

Sure beats the hell out of messaging any day.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

But don't think I haven't noticed your new coaster.

Yeah, well, that's new.

That was a gift.

Besides the tablet and Lucy, not much has changed around here.

You patched up the b*llet holes in the basement, but not much else.

Made a few unseen improvements.

Mostly...

I've been working on the boat.

I thought you'd have more time since you got suspended.

Who told you that?

Aunt Micki read it in the paper.

She thinks you got railroaded.

- Ah.

- Speaking of the boat, how are you gonna get it out of the basement?

I've done it before.

But how?

And-and when?

- When it's ready.

- Where will you go?

You ask a lot of questions.

You just gonna use it for floating around and fishing?

Or is it supposed to take you somewhere?

And when you get there, what will you do then?

Exploring maybe?

Got a plan?

Hey, Kase, anything on the GPS?

Yes and no, or yes, then no.

Okay, what's the "yes"?

Well, I was able to track the GPS history of Hassan's rental car from the airport to where our dead Navy captain was found to all around D.C to Phineas's neighborhood.

Where it ends right there on the "no."

KASIE: At Route , not one mile from Phin's house, and not long after they ran his uncle's car off the road.

Hassan likely disabled the GPS when Phineas got away from them.

Knowing we were looking for him.

I still can't believe he got all the way to Gibbs's house.

Well, I just hope Gibbs is being nice to him.

Oh, why wouldn't he be?

He loves Phineas.

He loves me and Ducky, too, but we checked on him this morning and the man all but told us to get off his lawn.

He's so resistant to change.

Well, he's not the only one.

What do you mean?

Hmm, what do you mean, what?

I said Gibbs was resistant to change, and you said he's not the only one.

Does this mean you're planning a change or...?

No, I mean, not now, but...

I don't know, you never know.

Oh, I get it.

This is about you and your Torres talk.

Okay, does everybody know about that?

Dear Book, you are wide open and we've all read your chapter on Torres.

Uh, there is nothing to read.

- [COMPUTER BEEPING]

- Oh, hey, we got a hit.

Thank God.

A hit on what?

I took the liberty of tracking the credit card Hassan used to rent the car.

And it looks like it was used again not long after.

The Mackin Hotel in Fairfax.

Two adjoining rooms.

It looks like they're both still occupied.

By a Libyan gangster and his crew.

Be careful.

Whatever happened to that really nice lady Jack?

Uh, she went to Afghanistan.

Why'd she go there?

Because she wanted to.

You really liked her, didn't you?

Yeah, yeah, sure, I did.

Did you love her?

[LUCY GROANS]

What?

Would you have married her?

[CHUCKLES]

Will you ever get married again?

None of your business.

[BLOWS]

Don't you ever get lonely living here all by yourself?

No.

You ever wonder if maybe living all alone and building that boat is just a way of avoiding stuff?

What stuff?

Important stuff like what we're talking about.

Getting married and getting close to people and...

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

I get close to plenty of people.

And-and we're not talking about stuff.

You are.

I'm-I'm just curious.

But... we can talk about whatever you want to.

Okay, let's talk about you.

Why are you asking so many questions?

I don't know.

Guess I'm only asking because those are the questions I think about a lot.

Maybe too much.

I can hardly sleep some nights.

Kids your age should not be losing sleep.

I worry all the time about...

being alone and people leaving.

That-That's why I never let friends get close.

'Cause they're just gonna leave one day, one way or another.

Phineas...

First my mom, and then after today, what if Micki and George decide I'm not worth the trouble?

If not for me, none of this would have happened.

Phin, they're not gonna leave you.

Nobody is going to leave you.

How could you say that?

You left me.

Ah, come on, Phin, look at me.

Look at, look at my life.

Look how I live.

I choose to live this way.

I left you in the best place I knew.

With two great people who love you.

So it's nothing I did?

No.

Never.

It's always been about...

finding what's best for you.

[LUCY WHINING]

What do you think, Lucy?

Must be nice being a dog.

Not having to worry about all this stuff, huh?

[SIREN WAILING]

A lot of green minivans in that parking lot.

Must be a popular rental.

All right, forget about the car.

You guys take , I'll take .

NCIS!

Don't sh**t.

I'm unarmed.

Don't sh**t, don't sh**t.

Please don't sh**t.

Please don't sh**t.

Please.

I am Hamza Bashar.

Ahmed's doctor.

Who's Ahmed?

He's the son of Hassan Sayegh.

What's wrong with him?

[GROANING]

May I?

Chronic myeloid leukemia.

It's very rare in children.

He needs a bone marrow transplant.

- And soon.

- Bone marrow?

- Blood relatives.

- Phineas.

With no donor match in our region, Ahmed's cousin is our only hope.

And kidnapping is your only option?

Not mine.

I studied at Hopkins, so I know the area and can translate when needed.

And I do care for the boy, but I did not come willingly.

You didn't call for help either.

Do you see phones in these rooms?

Betraying Hassan is unwise, to say the least.

I'm only trying to get the boy and myself back home alive.

Never occur to Hassan to simply ask Phineas nicely?

Maybe call his family instead of running them off the road?

Hassan does nothing nicely and he's wanted in many countries.

Proper channels are not for him.

He's a brute who only knows threats and intimidation.

Where's Hassan now?

They left minutes ago... Hassan and Nazar, his enforcer...

After searching through those papers for hours.

Taken from the boy's home.

It's a letter to Phineas.

Signed "Jethro Gibbs." No return address.

Well, it was easy to find on that stolen computer.

How old was your dad when he d*ed?

Pretty ancient.

[CHUCKLES]: Yeah.

And your mom?

Not old enough.

I'm sorry.

Don't be sorry.

[PHONE RINGING]

[PHONE BEEPS]

Hey, McGee.

Got him?

Not yet, boss, but they're headed to your house.

They're already here.

No, we're ten minutes out.

Oh, no.

He's here, isn't he?

Do exactly what I say.

[LUCY GROWLS SOFTLY]

Come on, Luce.

[LUCY GROWLING]

Come on.

PHINEAS: This is the first place they'll look.

Unseen improvements.

Lucy, come on.

Get out.

- Come on, Luce, get out.

- No, i-it's okay.

It's okay.

I got her.

You stay there till I come get you.

[GLASS BREAKS]

_ [BOTH GRUNT]

[GLASS BREAKS]

[LUCY GROWLING]

- [GROWLING]

- [SHUSHING]

[GRUNTS]

It's over.

No, it is not.

Give me the boy.

Not tonight.

Not ever.

My son Ahmed...

he needs help.

No way to ask for it.

You are Gibbs.

You avenged my brother.

So you know that sometimes you are forced...

[CRIES OUT]

[BAT CLATTERS]

[GROWLING]

[BARKS]

- [GROWLING]

- You look nothing like our family.

Nothing like us at all.

- I am nothing like you.

- [SIRENS APPROACHING]

Everyone okay?

Well, they sure look okay.

- Hey, Phin.

- Hey, you guys.

[GROANS]

His buddy's down in the basement.

Roger.

[CUFFS CLICKING]

GIBBS: Hey.

I told you to stay in there.

What was it he was saying?

About what?

Something about his son?

My son.

Please help him.

Come on.

[SIRENS WAILING]

Thank God you're okay, Phinnie.

You're sure you're okay?

Yeah.

I'm gonna be just fine.

So is your Uncle George.

He came through surgery with flying colors.

Thank you, Doctor.

And Agent Gibbs.

Once again.

No.

This was all Phin.

Me and Lucy.

You have to meet this dog, Aunt Micki.

She's so awesome.

You always were a sucker for dogs.

Maybe it's time we get you one.

You mean it?

You'll have to take care of it.

I-I will, I swear.

But...

But what?

Just something I want to ask you.

Something I really want to do.

Still can't believe that kid.

After everything he's been through, to still donate bone marrow?

Yeah.

Special kid.

Mm.

So...

- So, the talk.

- Ah, right, the talk.

Talk-a-roo.

Talk-a-reeno.

Can we at least agree that we need to have the talk?

Yeah, "need" is a strong word, but yeah.

All right.

So, when?

Uh...

well...

not now.

Oh, no, of course not.

No.

It's, uh, it's been a long day.

- Both tired.

- Mm.

- Yeah, super tired.

- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

But let's agree, um...

No, let's promise that we should definitely have the talk soon.

Sure.

So, when do you think?

Like, probably now.

[ELEVATOR BELL DINGS]

Okay, so...

ladies first.

Sure.

Um...

Okay, Nick.

So...

ever since, uh, we were in that jail cell together, um...

[BIRDS CHIRPING]

It'll only take a few hours, Lucy.

I don't get why people are making such a big deal about it.

You're saving a life.

It is a big deal.

Poor kid's only ten.

A-And he can't help who his father is.

You ready?

Jethro Gibbs, I'm sorry.

- Sorry about what?

- Yesterday.

I-I didn't mean to be so nosy.

And I-I didn't want to make you mad about, you know, stuff.

You don't have to apologize.

I think I was mad because...

...sometimes...

...I am lonely.

Like you, maybe.

I don't like thinking about it.

Welcome to the club.

[CHUCKLES]

Don't wait for me at the hospital.

You should stay home with Lucy.

She was scared last night, too.

I've been thinking about Lucy, too, Phin.

She has really bonded with you.

- You think so?

- Yeah, I do.

You know that dogs pick their people?

And, uh, the minute you got here, she picked you.

So, what are you saying?

- I'm saying she wants to be with you.

- [LUCY WHIMPERS]

That she deserves to be with you.

And you take care of her.

You take her home.

For good.
