02x23 - Avalon: Part 3

Post by bunniefuu »

[GOLIATH] One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.

It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear.

It was the age of gargoyles.

Stone by day, warriors by night.

We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan... the spell is broken, and we live again!

We are defenders of the night.

We are gargoyles.

Previously on "Gargoyles":

[MAGUS] The Weird Sisters led the charge against us, along with two warriors armed with magical weapons.

This is but a demonstration of my power.

[MAGUS] The Archmage calls the dance.

I've seen the Eye of Odin on his brow.

I'd swear he had the Grimorum as well.

Our best chance lies in stealth.

Elisa, you'd better come up with a contingency plan in case this doesn't work.

Tell me about the sleeping king.

[RUSTLING]

I heard something. Over there.

Did you hear it?

-The grotto is just ahead. -I'll act as diversion.

Retrieve the Eye of Odin and the Phoenix Gate and get out.

And no heroics.

Jalapeña!

[KATHARINE] Little is known of the sleeping king.

Just that he'll sleep here until his country needs him.

-How do I get there? -You would dare to waken this king?

Who knows what enchantments surround his hollow hill?

-We have no choice. -She's right.

We must leave no stone unturned.

-No, Guardian. I must do this. -Not without me. My idea, remember?

-Stop it. -Hands up, and don't move.

No!

They are our clan's children.

Demona, I know you hate humans, but these are innocent gargoyles.

No.

-Can it be? -And you, Macbeth.

Does your much-vaunted sense of honor include the slaughter of innocents?

-The Archmage is using you. -[LAUGHTER]

Oh, you're very good, Goliath.

But appealing to their better natures won't help you.

They're my creatures now.

I have great plans for you, Goliath.

But these young ones are expendable.

Destroy them.

[SNARLS]

Agh!

Angela, come on.

I generously allowed them to live until dawn, but if they're so eager to die...

Come on, Magus, slow down. We're on the same side, you know.

I'm sorry, Elisa. I'm used to being on my own.

Well, what about the princess and the Guardian?

Yes. Katharine and Tom.

I thought you were all one big, happy family.

It started out that way.

From the moment we arrived on Avalon, we felt safe.

[LAUGHTER]

Oh, Magus. It is beautiful.

We lived innocently as children.

Tom, how wonderful.

But, like all children...

we grew up.

She began to rely on Tom and not on me.

They became as husband and wife, and raised the gargoyles as their own children.

You still love her. Why didn't you fight for her?

-With no Grimorum, I had nothing to offer. -But you stayed.

What I did to the gargoyles a thousand years ago was... unforgivable.

I owed it to Goliath to tend the eggs.

-This is it. -This?

I was expecting something... grander.

[GASPS]

Stay back.

Armored warriors who would stay upon the winds of yesterday, you have discharged your promise bold, so sleep you now, grow still, grow cold.

[GROANS]

-I thought you lost your magic. -That I did. Centuries ago.

But magic is the lifeblood of Avalon, especially in this hollow hill.

My training makes it possible for me to tap the source.

But without a conduit like the Grimorum, it is very hard.

I doubt I could do it again.

[GASPS]

Magus, what do I do?

It is a leap of faith. Trust yourself.

Arthur Pendragon, king of all Britain, you are needed.

[GASPS]

It's a good thing Bronx and Boudicca decided to follow us.

Magus, is that...?

I take it you had more success than we did.

Thanks to the Magus.

Demona and Macbeth are two of the greatest warriors of all time.

We've gotta face it, Goliath. You've never beaten either of them.

Aye. Only foiled their plans or fought them to a draw.

We needed the best warrior who ever lived.

We needed...

King Arthur.

[CLEARS THROAT]

That is all very flattering, but would someone kindly tell me what is going on?

I have been too complacent.

Demona and Macbeth are on their way to Oberon's palace.

-No one will survive. -Good.

We will take no more chances.

Go to the hollow hill. Dispatch the sleeping king.

And while we do your bidding?

I will wait here for Goliath.

-Will you help us? -You have awakened me early.

I have neither Excalibur nor my knights. Nor my old friend Merlin.

Still, your need is great.

I will do what I can.

The warriors have been spotted.

I knew he would not wait for sunrise.

He might have, if not for me.

This can work in our favor. Come sunrise, there'll be too few of us.

You two look like able-bodied knights.

And this brave young woman has faced these villains before.

I will lead them against the advance party, but the Archmage...

I'm the one he wants. I will face him.

Not without me.

The rest of you should stay to protect the wounded.

They will not harm my eggs again.

-I promise you that. -[BARKS]

That leaves only the Weird Sisters.

Leave them to me.

Agh!

I won't let you hurt him!

What manner of magic is this?

It is your death.

-Who are you? -I am Arthur Pendragon.

-King Arthur? -The same.

Well, I always wanted to see how I'd stand up against the best.

Our blows count twice. Each feels the other's pain.

-I must put some distance between us. -Stop her before she reaches the palace.

Taking a rest, grandfather? Or have you chosen this place to be your grave?

-I knew you would come here. -You are no match for us.

There is no future for you.

Is this how you will defeat us?

No piece of wood can harm us.

And you have no magic here.

Mystical Avalon, hear my plea, fill me with your energy.

Aaaargh!

You hurt us, sorcerer.

You steal power from the land of our birth.

You will suffer.

Aaaargh!

[YELLING]

[GROWLS]

Agh!

No!

Are you mad? These are your children!

[ROARS]

Now we end this.

Yes. One way or another.

-[ROAR] -Goliath.

Is that the best you can do?

Aaaaargh!

[LAUGHS]

[GABRIEL] Demona!

Are you afraid to face one of your own?

How cozy. Now you can all die together.

Wouldn't you rather have me?

[CLICKING]

Always.

[GRUNTING]

[ROARS]

I have waited a millennium for this moment.

[ROARS IN PAIN]

And it was worth the wait.

Hold her! Hold her!

Agh!

Let go of me!

I'll destroy you all.

Enough of this!

Get clear!

-My love. -No one threatens my eggs.

Aaaargh!

Avalon, aid your children.

You've been sleeping too long, old man.

You will not defeat me.

[YELLS]

You only delay the inevitable!

Where is the sleeping king?

Iron armor, swords and riches...

Agh!

...form a chain to bind these witches.

Did you think I'd forgotten our last battle?

Agh!

Well, I'm no longer that weakling. I could destroy you with a word.

Then why don't you?

Because I'm having too much fun.

Agh!

-Fools! -Agh!

Ice!

[LAUGHS]

[ROARS]

You lose again, Archmage.

You fool. I still have the Phoenix Gate.

And the Grimorum Arcanorum is part of me forever.

No!

The Grimorum!

Without the Eye, I cannot control its power.

Aaaaargh!

All my lovely magic...

-It is over. -[ANGELA GASPS]

Magus.

Oh, Magus, what have you done?

Princess, I...

Shh.

Lie still now.

We'll get you back to the palace and then...

No. No, Katharine.

I think I should like to stay here.

I owe you a great debt, Magus.

You?

But... I cursed your clan.

You saved my children.

Oh, I'm so tired.

I think I would like to rest.

-You cannot leave me now. -Never, my princess.

No. Magus!

[SOBS]

-[GOLIATH] I will miss you all. -Our place... my place is here.

The others are already rebuilding the palace.

-Your clan could join us. -No.

Gargoyles and humans must learn to live together again, or it will never be safe for us in the outside world.

Goliath, I want to go with you.

It's a dangerous path, Angela.

But you'd be welcome company.

Gabriel, I have to go.

See the world. Find my place in it.

And so you will. But I will miss you, my rookery sister.

-And you, Your Majesty? -I too will explore this new world.

But on my own, and thus a bit less conspicuous.

Well, if you end up on an island named Manhattan, look up my clan.

Now, free them from your spell.

We free you from our dreadful geas.

-Do as thou will. -[ALL] And as thou please.

They will have no memory of anything that happened since the spell was cast.

Now keep your part of the bargain.

[WHIMPERS]

Thank you, Goliath, Elisa.

-Princess, goodbye. -Goodbye.

-Farewell, Angela. -Goodbye, my princess.

-Gabriel, goodbye. -Goodbye, all of you.

Good luck.

[BOUDICCA WHIMPERS]

-Souvenirs? -I'm personally going to ensure that the Phoenix Gate and the Eye of Odin are never used again.

If you say so. My personal goal is to get back to New York, as soon as possible.

Elisa, I thought you understood.

Avalon does not take you where you want to go.

Avalon sends you where you need to be.

Wait a minute. What does he mean, "where we need to be"?
