03x03 - Liar's Poker

Post by bunniefuu »

The place has changed a lot
since we were here last.

I don't really pay attention.

I hate this city.

So why are we back?

Because we're making a deal,

and we have to find a fool.

And this city's full of them.

It shouldn't be much longer now.

We're about five minutes away.

[SIRENS WAIL]

Oh, you gotta be kidding me.

[SIRENS WAIL]

[RADIO CHATTER]

- What'd I do?
- I'll explain in a second.

But for my safety and yours,

do you mind rolling that window
all the way down, please?

Appreciate it.

I pulled you over because
your taillight's out.

Let me see your license
and registration.

A taillight? Seriously?

This is a rental. Take it up with them.

You're driving it,
so it's your responsibility.

Unbelievable. This right here?

This is why no one like you guys.

Let me see your hands! Now!

- [g*nsh*t FIRES]
- [GRUNTS]

[TENSE MUSIC]

[GASPING]

Good to see you.

We appreciate the Bureau's
offer help on this.

It's not a problem.
I'm Special Agent Maggie Bell.

This is Zidan. That's Wallace and Scola.

Any witnesses?

The guy over there just waved us down.

Said he saw a car pull away.

Tiff and I will get his statement.

So what do we know?

He was dead on arrival.

Last radio transmission
was about a traffic stop.

[SIGHS]

- Did he give Dispatch a plate?
- No.

It's not uncommon,

not if it was for a minor offense.

- Was he wearing a body cam?
- Yeah.

Techs are downloading
the footage as we speak.

His name is Tony Sanchez.

Survived two tours in Afghanistan

and gets k*lled writing
a stupid traffic ticket.

[SIGHS]

[SOLEMN MUSIC]

I work the night shift.

My desk is next
to the window over there.

I heard the sh*t,

and then I saw the cop
lying in the street.

Did you see the actual sh**ting?

No, just the car peeling away
when I ran outside.

The cop was on the ground.
He was holding his throat.

Trying to stop the bleeding, I guess.

- Tell us about the car.
- Yeah.

It was a black sedan
with tinted windows.

You know, like, from a car service.

You happen to catch the plate?

The suspect is driving a black sedan.

We have a partial plate.
KFC, just like the restaurant.

Let's get moving on that body cam.

The second you're done scrubbing it,

I want a photo of the sh**t
blasted wide.

I'm talking about airports,
trains, buses, you name it.

If it's a carrier capable
of transporting our suspect

out the city, I want law enforcement

sweeping through it first, yeah?

Transfer is complete. Putting it up now.

He didn't activate his body cam

till he was directly opposite
the driver's side door,

so we don't have any footage
tagging the plate.

Okay, any hits on facial rec?

No, nothing, but watch
as our victim leans over.

I think the police officer drew his g*n

because he recognizes the guy
in the back seat,

and that's why the driver sh*t him.

Whoa. Is that who I think it is?

[TENSE MUSIC]

Antonio Vargas.

Head of the Durango drug cartel.

And believed responsible for the m*rder

of an FBI agent seven years ago.

Yeah. Kyle Miller.

Hey, get Isobel
and ADIC Reynolds in here ASAP.

Hey, for those of you
who are new to the job

or who don't watch the news,
take a long, hard look.

Vargas is the number one
cocaine dealer in the universe.

And a cold-blooded k*ller.
He likes expl*sives

and torturing victims
before k*lling them.

Hey.

- We got a sighting on Vargas?
- Yeah.

He was in the back of the car
driven by the cop k*ller.

[SIGHS] Can you take that down, please?

Yeah, yeah. Ian, can you... please.

I got something.

I've been scanning through traffic cams

within a three-mile radius
of the crime scene.

That black Town Car has
the same license plate letters

given to us by the witness.

Passed through the intersection

just five minutes after the sh**ting.

Okay, any sightings after that, or no?

No, but the road is
a mile-long cul-de-sac.

It leads to a group
of commercial warehouses.

I think he's gone to ground.

Get Maggie and the rest
of them down there ASAP.

I'll roll a SWAT team as backup.

Nice work.

Hey, the car's parked

on the side of the middle warehouse.

Mark my sightline clear.

Do you see anything?

No sign of movement.

Maybe they ditched the car and split.

Or maybe not.

I have four heat signatures
moving around inside.

- Are we waiting for a warrant?
- No, exigent circumstances.

But if Vargas isn't one
of those heat signatures,

I need to know that immediately.

- Let's hit it.
- Go, go.

- Let's move.
- Team hot. Let's go.

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Stack.

Breach. Go.

Let's go!

- Trooper One, through the door.
- Move.

Flow this way. Flow.

About entry, on me.

- Blue team high.
Clear left.

FBI! Don't move!

- [g*nshots]
- [GRUNTS]

- Federal agents!
Let me see your hands!

Do it, Vargas.

Give me an excuse.

Okay.

Don't sh**t. My hands are up.

Turn around and face forward.
Keep your hands up.

Support up. Secondary start.

We'll head back from here.

- Secure the scene.
- Upper two advancing.

Let's get a medic up.

- We heard sh*ts.
- We're good.

One down. Primary in custody.
No eyes on the other two.

They must be
on your side of the building.

Copy that. We'll continue our sweep.

Confirm that's Vargas
you have in custody.

- [HANDCUFFS CLICK TIGHTER]
- Affirmative.

I want him extracted immediately.

- Yeah, roll him to MDC?
- No.

Bring him here.

Yeah, bring his ass to FED.

Yellow Six coming out.

Clear a lane. SRF.

Moving out.

Men are en route, Fed. Let's go.

Eyes on.

- I'm open channel.
TRT, in position.

[LAUGHING] Oh.

Well, we have some dr*gs.

Up, up.

I got a short room here.

- We got this guy.
- Yup.

Wait, is this what I think it is?

Yes, C and blasting caps.

Heads on a swivel. We have expl*sives.

- Copy that.
- Hey.

These palettes have been moved.
Somebody got behind this door.

Okay, that could explain
where the suspects just went.

Hey! Don't move.

We have a tripwire.

[MUSIC SWELLS]

- Maggie, what's the move?
- Don't touch anything.

- Am I clear?
- Yes, ma'am.

Landslide, landslide, landslide.

Okay, Jubal, we've got
expl*sives on the scene.

We're gonna back away slowly

until the b*mb techs sweep this place.

- Two suspects got away.
- Copy that!

Rolling a b*mb team as we speak.

Just contain it from a safe
distance until they arrive.

Will do.

[INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER]

Say again. Last transmission.

- Coming out.
- Tango One, at the door.

- We green or what?
- [INDISTINCT RADIO CHATTER]

Green. Set...

No!

- [expl*sives ERUPTING]
- [AGENTS SCREAM]

[GRUNTING]

We got operators inside.

- [SCREAMS]
- I got you!

Man down.

Roll an ambo to our location now!

Sector five, IED.

Get this contained!

- [COUGHING]
- Inside!

- Let's go. Move!
- Move. Move.

Is everybody okay?
I heard there was an expl*si*n.

Yeah, a SWAT member was wounded.

The doctors think he's gonna survive.

- Thank God.
- Well, Vargas is inside.

A little calmer and shorter
than I anticipated.

I'm hearing there was product
in the warehouse.

Yes, sir.
About two tons of pure cocaine.

[SCOFFS]

Once the b*mb techs
clear the warehouse, seize it.

It'll make the press conference
even more interesting.

Listen, word's gonna travel
fast that Vargas is in custody,

so warn the front desk
to expect media inquiries.

And tell 'em to set up
a press stage outside.

I'll field questions
once he's processed.

[DOOR BUZZES]

Who are you?

I'm Special Agent in Charge
Isobel Castille.

This is Assistant Director
in Charge Reynolds.

Impressive titles.

- But can you two make decisions?
- Excuse me?

I need to be with decision makers.

Not puppets with fancy titles.

Uh, well, you're in
our house now, Vargas.

You don't get to make demands.

And I can assure you
neither one of us is a puppet.

We're here to advise you
that you are being charged

with the m*rder
of an NYPD police officer.

You're wasting your time.

I didn't sh**t anyone.

Oh, I know.

You like to send other people
to do your dirty work.

Like when you ordered one of your thugs

to t*rture and k*ll
Agent Miller seven years ago.

It sounds like I'll need a good lawyer.

More like divine intervention.

- It's over.
- [DOOR BUZZES]

How many times have you used that line?

? ?

[TENSE MUSIC]

You're going down, Vargas.

There's nothing you can do about it.

- Help!
- On the ground, now!

- Somebody help me!
- Let me see your hands!

Scola, help! There's a b*mb on me!

Don't sh**t! Put the g*ns down!

She's one of us.

I need to get some backup
here in the lobby now.

Don't move!

- [PANTING]
- [b*mb TICKING]

Okay, okay. Just calm down.

We've got an expl*sive expert
coming from the third floor.

They're gonna get this thing
off your neck.

- You're gonna be fine.
- No, you can't do that.

He said if anyone were to come
in or out of this building,

especially the b*mb tech,
he'd detonate this thing.

- But who said that?
- The man who put this on me!

Okay, okay. Just relax, okay?
Nobody's going in or out.

The b*mb techs are coming
from the third floor.

Well, tell them to hurry.
They have to get this off me.

Okay, they will. They will.

- It's gonna be okay.
- Okay.

It's gonna be okay. [INHALES DEEPLY]

[BREATHES DEEPLY]

Okay?

It's gonna be okay.

[TENSE MUSIC]

Tell me what happened.

I... I got off the subway
at Chamber Street.

Cleared the stairs, started walking.

Was about to put my ID on.

Then, someone came up behind me
and stuck a g*n in my back.

- What did he look like?
- I don't know.

I was scared.

He said to keep looking straight ahead,

or he'd k*ll me,

and then he made me
get into a black SUV.

Told me to close my eyes, or he'd sh**t.

I know I should've looked,
but I was too scared...

You're alive,
so you did the right thing.

What happened next?

Said there was a b*mb around my neck,

that I was to walk into the lobby

and demand that a man
named Vargas be released.

And if that didn't happen
within the next minutes,

it would explode.

- [SNIFFLES]
- All right.

Hey, you look at me.

You are gonna be okay.

I promise.

Okay?

[b*mb TICKING]

I'm gonna get the JOC working on this.

Are you okay to stay here
and keep me updated?

- Yes, ma'am.
- Are you sure?

I cannot order you to stay here.

You don't have to.

She's scared. She's one of us.

So I got this.

Our friend and colleague, Elise Taylor,

is in the lobby
with a b*mb around her neck.

And the timer on the device
says we have minutes

to solve this issue,
so let's get to work.

If the man threatened to detonate it,

he must have
a portable activation device.

Exactly, and if we cannot
get the b*mb off of Elise,

we need to find and neutralize
the man holding the detonator.

Vargas and his cronies

have used this type of device before.

What have we learned from the past?

Prior collar b*mb cases show
they typically pack

about five pounds of C .

It's enough to k*ll Elise

and anyone else within feet of her.

Also enough to cause structural damage

to the building if she's
standing in the wrong place.

All right, listen up.

The lobby is located directly below us.

I need a few volunteers to stay.

Other than that, the rest of you need

to leave immediately.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

I'm sure as hell not going anywhere.

I'll stay.

Me too.

Thank you. Rest of you need to go now.

All right, you heard the boss.

No more volunteers needed.

Head down to the east conference room

on the fifth floor.

Orderly fashion, please. Thank you.

All right, Ian, Kelly,
we need to start scrubbing

the exterior security footage
from FED.

Find Elise's approach,
work backwards from there,

and let's locate the suspect
or the SUV he dragged her into.

- On it.
- Will do.

Maggie, OA, and Tiffany
are still out in the field.

Update them on the situation,

and then order them
to head back to FED.

Copy that. They can strip down

to their civilian clothes
and be our eyes on the street.

- It's a sophisticated device.
- But you can disarm it, right?

Negative. Once activated,

it's designed to go off
if it's tampered with.

To neutralize it on-site, we would need

to punch in the correct codes
on the timer's keypad.

Well, is it worth trying
variations of what it could be?

No, it'll be triggered
if the wrong one's entered.

[SIGHS] What about the remote?

If we get our hands on that,
can we neutralize it?

It's possible. I would need
to see it to know for sure.

If it helps, a detonator
like that would only

have a maximum signal range
of about yards,

so the suspect would need to stay close.

All right. That's good to
know. I'll relay that to the JOC.

Whatever they can do to resolve this,
they need to do it fast.

The timer's at minutes
and counting down.

- We're moving.
- Yes, ma'am.

Thanks for that.

We should all clear out,
yourself included.

- I'm staying.
- Then take this, at least.

It won't save your life,

but at least there'll be
enough of you to bury.

[SOLEMN MUSIC]

Why are they leaving?

They're just running
some specs on the device.

They'll get back to us with a solution.

You're lying.

If they could've done
something, they would've.

It's gonna be okay.

All right? We're gonna fix this.

- [b*mb TICKING]
- [EXHALES]

[DOOR BUZZES]

We have a situation downstairs,

and you are gonna fix it.

Let me guess.

Someone you care about
has a new necklace.

I've spent the last decade being hunted

by every law enforcement agency
in America.

Of course I had a backup plan in place.

We don't respond to threats like this.

There's no way
you're walking out of here.

Then her death is on you.

She doesn't have to die.

You help us deactivate that b*mb,

we'll speak to the U.S. Attorney

about a sentence reduction.

A sentence reduction?

I run the largest drug cartel
in the world.

Two life sentences versus four
doesn't help me too much.

I either walk out of here,
or your girl dies.

Call your people.
Have them deactivate that b*mb.

Now.

Or we will place you right next to her

when that timer hits zero.

- - . What's your emergency, please?

I'm dealing with an idiot.

Could you send in someone smarter?

You think I'm joking?
I promise you I am not.

I will you sit your ass down
right next to her.

She dies, you die.

Everyone likes to talk like a gangster,

but when it's time to be one,
it's a whole different story.

You're the boss.
It means you love politics.

Kissing ass.

Yeah. It means you lack courage.

No, it means I'm good at my job.

Exactly.

Ain't no way in hell you have the guts

to put me next to that b*mb.

[TENSE MUSIC]

Never should've brought him here.

We should've brought him straight
to Metropolitan Detention Center.

We had no way to anticipate
that he was gonna...

Well, you knew his history, Isobel.

His tactics.

It was a mistake. Just own it.

It's not over.

There's a woman downstairs
with a b*mb around her neck.

- Elise.
- What?

Her name is Elise.

And she's gonna be okay.

I looked her in the eye

and I promised her we were
gonna find a way out of this.

Well, she was scared,

and you told her
what she needed to hear.

I get it, but we both know
it's not gonna be that simple.

All I care about is getting
that b*mb off Elise's neck.

That's it.

So you can either help me do that,

or get the hell out of my way.

So I was expecting
three gangbangers with AK- s,

but instead, what I saw was

two sixteen-year-old stoners
just playing "Fortnite."

- You kicked in the wrong door?
- Correct.

They must've been surprised.

Right, you would think,
but they didn't even look over.

I mean, they had their headphones on.

They were just too wrapped up
in the game.

Plus, they were really, really high,

so we just backed out of there
like it never happened.

Maggie and the rest
of the team are gonna be

outside real soon.

Hey.

We're gonna get you out of this.

Now, can you remember anything else

about the man who approached you?

Anything at all? No detail is too small.

All I can remember is
that when I was in the SUV,

he yanked my hands behind my back

and held them really tight.

He was really rough

when he forced the collar
around my neck.

Wait.

He held your hands... Both of them...

While he applied the collar?

Yes, so there must've been a second guy.

Jubal, we're positioned a short distance

outside the plaza. Any update?

Yes, before that timer hits zero,

you now have to find
two needles in a haystack.

So wait, if they just
evade us long enough,

then it'll explode on its own?

And if they see you coming,
they can trigger it.

But only one of them has a detonator.

How do we know that?

b*mb techs say it's highly unlikely

there'd be two triggering devices.

Something about signal clarity.

And we're looking for
a late model black SUV, right?

Yeah, Elise said it was
parked on Worth Street,

just south of FED.

Yeah, we're there now.

There's no sign of that vehicle.

Okay, but the detonator's
signal range is only

about yards, so I'm sure
they're still close by.

Okay, if they're watching the exits,

that means we have to canvass
both sides of the building.

Okay, we're gonna split up on foot

- and start a grid search.
- Yeah.

All right, let's not take any chances

getting b*rned, okay?

Park on a side street. Ditch the comms.

Cell phone only for communication.

Got it. We'll give you an update.

If you help us deactivate that b*mb,

I'll do everything in my power

to convince the people above me
to release you.

Help you before I'm let out?
Do you think I'm stupid?

And let's face it, the people
above you aren't gonna budge.

There is no upside. No skin in the game.

But you, you know that woman.

- You care, don't you?
- I do.

But I don't have the authority

to make a unilateral decision like that.

Of course you do.

You just don't wanna pay the price.

Ask yourself this...

Is putting me in prison

worth more than that woman's life?

If I were to release you,

how could I be sure
you'd keep your word?

Because my word is gold.

It's more valuable than my cocaine.

And when I say something, I mean it.

You sell poison.

You t*rture and k*ll innocent people.

You plant bombs, so forgive me

if your word doesn't quite have
the currency you think it does.

To get where I'm at,

to have the kind of business I have,

you need credibility.

You k*lled an NYPD officer.
An FBI agent.

You almost k*lled another agent
last night at the warehouse.

Because no one listened to me.

Excuse me?

I told your people
that the warehouse was rigged,

that there were bombs,

not to chase my men.

But they didn't believe me.

If you are such a polished businessman,

why did you k*ll Agent Miller?

He wasn't even investigating you.

Agent Miller?

And that's the second time
you brought him up.

Why?

Were you two... close?

He was a good man.

No, he was dirty as hell.

He was on my payroll for years.

- You're lying.
- I'm not.

Nah. He would give me intel.

And then one day,
he found Jesus or something,

and he tried to end our arrangement.

I said no, and he tried to k*ll me.

If I hadn't put my hand up,

Miller's b*llet would've hit me
in the side of the head.

Miller d*ed because of that.

[TENSE MUSIC]

Come on, talk to me, Elise. Come on.

Let's get your mind off this
while the others are working

on a solution. Come on.

First thing
that pops in your head, what?

That I'm gonna die and leave
my daughter without a mother?

She's only seven.

[SIGHS SHAKILY]

You want me to get a message
to your husband, maybe?

No, I'm single.

[SIGHS]

I just need to talk to her,
hear her voice.

Okay.

[SOLEMN MUSIC]

[LINE RINGS]

- Hi, Mom.
- Hi, baby.

I... I just wanted to say hi.

Hear your voice.

No, nothing's wrong.

Yeah, sure. Finish the movie.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

I... I hope they find Nemo too.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

Mommy loves you

more than anything in the world.

But I have to go now, okay?

Okay. Mom, bye!

[CRYING]

[b*mb TICKING]

I know this is hard.

We're doing everything we can.

And I promise you that.

Got minutes left on the clock.

Any sightings of the black
SUV in the security cameras?

Negative. We scoped around the plaza.

There's no sign of it.

I'm betting those are the two suspects

that got away from the warehouse.

They probably followed Scola to FED.

If they ditched the SUV,
they're probably on foot.

Then focus your search

within the detonator's -yard radius.

Okay, minutes. Let's go.

[SIGHS] minutes now.

No pressure,

but you three are
the only chance she's got.

We got this.

[TENSE MUSIC]

Hey, I got a black SUV tucked away

in a underground parking lot.

The plate is Sam- -

Nora-kilo-baker-ocean.

Yeah, we're running it now.
Is anyone inside?

Negative.

Plate comes back
to a silver Toyota sedan.

Okay, Tiffany, it's cold-plated.

It's their ride.

Elise's ID is in the passenger seat.

All right, it's their car.

Ian, you find footage of that area?

Yeah, scrubbing through
the old footage right now.

- Which one?
- Right there.

Yeah.

Can you scrub this one?

Bet it.

- What's going on?
- We are really good.

But I'm not loving the odds on this one.

We're doing everything we can.

- That's not true.
- What do you mean?

I could let Vargas go

in exchange for deactivating the b*mb.

He's one of the most
wanted criminals in the world.

We can't just let him go, can we?

Sure we can.

Saving Elise is more important
than punishing Vargas.

No, of course,
but, I mean, history shows

this guy kills cops for sport.

We let him go, he'll detonate
the b*mb anyway, right?

He said that Agent Miller
was on his payroll,

that he was dirty.

- You think that's true?
- No.

I... I think we should have Forensics

take a quick dive
into Miller's finances.

And... and talk to the SWAT agent

who walked Vargas out of that warehouse.

Ask him if Vargas warned him
about the expl*sives.

- Okay, we only got minutes.
- [SIGHS]

If I know that he's lying
about the expl*sives

or Miller, I know he's lying
about saving Elise.

All right. I'm on it.

If we don't get that detonator,

we need to consider letting Vargas walk.

Are you crazy?

His driver just k*lled an NYPD cop.

He's the biggest coke dealer
in the world.

- The press would eat us alive.
- Elise will die if we don't.

He's bluffing.

He's not gonna detonate that b*mb.

Even Vargas isn't that reckless.

What if he is?

You're willing to take that chance?

Yes.

This woman... Elise...

she's one person.

If Vargas is released
and the cartel continues,

thousands will die

from the v*olence and the dr*gs.

I hate to say it,
but the math is on my side.

I don't care about the damn numbers.

Vargas stays in custody.

Am I clear?

Yes, sir. You are.

I just thought he was running his mouth.

I didn't really take it seriously.

So Vargas did warn you?

He told you there were
expl*sives in that warehouse?

Yes, ma'am.

Thank you.

The agent who got injured,
he's a good friend of mine.

If I thought he was telling the truth...

I know. Thank you.

I have intel on Agent Miller as well.

According to the report,
when the police found the body,

his Bureau-issued Glock was next to him

and the magazine was short a round.

- Finances?
- Yeah.

He had an account in the Caymans

under his passport number.

Don't know how much money
was in there, but...

So Vargas tells the truth.

[TENSE MUSIC]

Wait, what does it say?
How much time do I have left?

There's plenty of time.

We're gonna get you out of this collar.

I promise. Okay?

Scola, you need to find a way
to keep her distracted.

If she touches that device,
it will go off.

We also need to find a way

to move her towards the front entrance.

If we fail to fix this
and that thing goes off,

we have to protect
the integrity of the building.

Protect the people on the floors above.

You ready to hear a few more
embarrassing anecdotes?

Okay, first stand up
and stretch those legs.

[GRUNTS] Okay.

You ever hear other agents
talk about the idiot

who forgot to pat down the suspect

before putting him in the back seat?

Yeah, in class at Quantico.
That was you?

Wait, what?

They use that story at Quantico?

As an example of what not to do.

Well, look, I was a Wall Street banker.

The whole thing was foreign to me.

Well, banker or not,
that's gotta be embarrassing.

Well, it was.

It still is.

I like the view here better.

I'll get you a seat.

[b*mb TICKING]

I know what you're doing,

moving me like this.

I don't want anyone else in
the building to get hurt either.

Where are we on the video?

We've got footage of the SUV
entering the parking garage,

but because of the angle,
we can't see the driver's face.

So there's only one person in the SUV?

Looks like it. Interesting thing is,

no one has exited the garage
on foot since the SUV entered.

So I theorize the driver used
an interior elevator

and he's watching FED
from the building itself.

Now, everyone I've seen
is either at a window

or they're sitting at a desk,

but I keep coming back to this guy.

He's moved around a little bit,
but wherever he lands,

he's always looking
in the direction of FED.

Okay, they've got a possible suspect.

Is there anything else
that you can think of

that might help identify
the guy who grabbed you?

Nothing... I've told you
everything I can remember.

I... I don't have much time left, do I?

Look at me. Do I look nervous to you?

- No.
- Exactly.

Because I have faith
in the people out there

that they're gonna catch these guys.

Your wrist is cut. How'd that happen?

Probably when the guy
was holding my arms.

I told you he was rough.

He was wearing a ring.
It felt like a big one.

Jubal...

Ian, does the man
at the window have a ring on?

- Yes, a big, gold one.
- Go.

Affirmative. Take him down.

He's on the second floor.
West side of the building.

Third window.

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Wait, wait, hold up. He got a call.

- It might be the other suspect.
- Okay, hey, hey.

- We need to track that call.
- Come on. Come on.

He just hung up his phone.

You're clear... go! Take him down!

Hey, I'm looking for .
Do you know where that is?

No.

FBI. Don't move or you're dead!

Check him.

[GRUNTS]

Hands on your head. Lock your fingers.

Where's your friend with the detonator?

Don't know what you're talking about.

You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Do not underestimate
what we will do to you

if our friends are k*lled, okay?

I got no choice!

If Vargas isn't released
and people don't die,

my family will be k*lled,
so do what you want to me.

I'm not gonna help.

If his partner's still watching

the other side of FED,
he's using this to communicate.

Okay, this plaza's the only place

with a clear view of the lobby
within yards.

Are you sure your math is right?

Yeah. Make the call.

[LINE RINGS]

It's ringing.

[PHONE CHIMING]

OA, OA.

Hello?

FBI. Don't move.

- Don't move!
- Don't even think about it.

[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]

- [YELPS]
- [TIRES SQUEAL]

[BOTH GRUNTING]

Are we good?

Uh...

What? What is going on?

There's only a detonation button.

They can't stop the timer.

We found the woman with the detonator,

but it cannot disarm the b*mb.

Does she know the deactivation code?

If she does, she's not sharing it.

She's too scared of what
Vargas will do to her family.

I've already ordered
the building be evacuated

- through the fire exits.
- Yes.

We should get the hell out of here.

No. I am not letting her die.

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

You win.

I'm letting you go,
but I want that code.

Stand up.

As soon as I know
I'm not being followed,

I'll text it.

My number's on here.

You told me your word was your bond.

I want you to look me in the eye

and promise me
you're gonna text me that code

before the b*mb goes off.

If my people and I are let go,

I give you my word
that I will text you the code

before the timer hits zero.

Follow me.

Hey, so it's too late to have
a surveillance team in place,

but Maggie and OA are ready
to follow as best they can.

No. I gave him my word.

I think we need
to at least try to follow him.

I said no.

I am aware of the consequences, Jubal,

and none of them outweigh
the need to keep Elise alive.

We are not following Vargas,

and that is an order.

Yeah.

- [b*mb TICKING]
- [CLEARS THROAT]

I'm keeping up my side of the deal.

You keep yours.

Keep your phone close.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

All right, guys.
Right out the front door.

Thank you.

You're all clear back there, right?

There are ferries across the street.

- Let's go.
- All right.

Thank you,
but you guys should go as well.

It's not over. He's gonna text the code.

All of you need to get outside
with the rest of them.

If you're staying, I'm staying.

- Me too.
- All of us are.

No, no, you're not, and that's an order.

Evacuate now.

You're not following orders
right now, and neither are we.

I need to be here.

If that code comes in, Elise
cannot enter it by herself.

But if Vargas doesn't send that code,

I need all of you alive

so that you can hunt
that son of a bitch down.

Go now!

Jubal... All right, guys.

You heard her. Let's go.

It's gonna be okay. I got more stories.

When this is over, I'm gonna
take you out for a drink,

and I'm gonna make you listen to 'em.

I'd like that.

Promise one thing... If this goes bad,

tell my daughter that I...

I will.

I promise.

[SIGHS] Okay.

It's okay. Hey.

I am right here with you, okay?

[TENSE MUSIC BUILDING]

[SIGHS]

- [PHONE RINGS]
- Your phone, your phone!

[GASPS]

- [PANTING]
- It's the code.

- Okay.
- It's the code.

Okay.

[BUTTONS BEEP]

[b*mb BEEPS RAPIDLY]

[b*mb TICKING]

Did it stop?

No.

[DRAMATIC MUSICAL]

No.

[CRYING]

[SOBBING]

[b*mb CLICKS]

[SOLEMN MUSIC]

Are we okay?

[CHUCKLES IN DISBELIEF] We're okay.

We're okay. We're okay.

[BOTH LAUGH]

We're okay.

[sobbing

[HOPEFUL MUSIC]

- Hey.
- Hey.

[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]

- Nicely done.
- Get toasted.

- Thank you.
- [LAUGHS]

Welcome back, Elise.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

NYPD found the SUV abandoned

on the other side of the Holland Tunnel.

There's no sign of Vargas.

Well, I'm glad she's alive,
but we need to talk.

You didn't have the authority
to go release Vargas...

- Then fire me.
- [SCOFFS]

I stand by my decision.

I understand.

Look, no matter how fast Vargas runs

or where he hides, we'll find him.

I hope so.

For your sake. It was your call, Isobel.

If things break the wrong way,
you're gonna take the hit.

It's the cost of being a hero.

I understand.

You just saved that woman's life.

That's something to be proud of,
something to hold onto.

The press is waiting for you out front.

Probably best that you to find a way

to put a positive spin on all this.

Okay.

Today, we confronted and k*lled
the man responsible

for last night's m*rder
of an NYPD officer,

Tony Sanchez.

Incidental to that sh**ting,
we apprehended Antonio Vargas,

a man long rumored to be
the head of the Durango cartel.

We interrogated Mr. Vargas,

but did not have enough evidence

to charge him with a crime.

You didn't have enough evidence.

How is that possible?

Wasn't he connected to the
sh**ting of Officer Sanchez?

[SOLEMN MUSIC]

Holding him was problematic,

but Mr. Vargas is now
squarely in the FBI's sights.

An active investigation is underway,

and we are confident
he will be brought to justice

very soon.
