Post by bunniefuu »

- Hey.
- Ah, that took a while.

Yeah, there was a line at the bathroom.

You see out there? There's
a little notch in the horizon

at two o'clock.

- Uh-huh.
- That's Clark Harbor.

- Lobster rolls await.
- Okay.

Hmm.

"The 'Bazegw Legend'
tells a story of De Paor,

"an Irish settler on Hanover Island.

"With his family facing starvation,

"the God-fearing De Paor sacrificed
his daughter on Bazegw Cliff

"to appease a vengeful God.

"Miraculously, the cod
returned for everyone

but De Paor."

Another story of male overreach.

He must've been hungry.

[LAUGHS]

Come on.

[AIR HORN BLOWS]

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

You made it! [LAUGHS]

- Mm!
- Oh.

Hi.

[BOTH LAUGH]

You had a smooth ride? Not too choppy?

No, it was... it was perfect.

Oh, this is Harry. Harry, Greta.

- Hi.
- So this is the guy.

Yeah, he managed to stick around.

[LAUGHS] Many men have tried and failed.

You must have skills.

[CHUCKLES] It's all her.

[LAUGHS]

Oh, my God, Greta. [LAUGHS]

Oh, my God. This is amazing.

Oh, the light.

The good news is, if you want to
stay for longer than two weeks,

it's all yours. I talked to Deedee.

She's not coming up till August.

Oh, that's amazing.
I could stay here all summer.

You... you can hear the waves.

That'll help with your insomnia.

Uh-huh.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

Two lobster rolls. Enjoy.

- Enjoy.
- Thanks.

Thanks, Steph. Getting busier, huh?

Oh, yeah, we're getting the,
uh, summer crowds now,

and our hauls are getting
bigger... fingers crossed.

- Enjoy your meal.
- Thank you.

So she and her husband, Mike Lam,

worked on the fishing
boats here for years.

No one complained.

Then they start their
own fishing operation.

Nine months ago,
they open up this place.

Now some locals are grumbling
about a Chinese takeover.

I mean, the island is beautiful
and enchanting and all that,

but locals can be
provincial little shits.

- That's terrible.
- Mm.

What about you?
Have you had any trouble?

Oh, no. No one's worried about me.

I'm a broke lesbian painter.
I'm not taking over anything.

[LAUGHS]

So, Harry, what are you
gonna do with yourself

when she's off painting all day?

I thought I'd explore
the island a little bit.

I have my plant and my tree guides.

He's... he's a bit of a botanist.

So you're... you're fully retired now?

Yeah, it's over a year.

I guess it was time.

Sounds like you deserve it.

I mean, the stuff that
Sonya told me, I...

I still can't believe what
you both went through

with that psychopath.

W-what was his name again?

Jamie Burns.

Um, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...

That's okay. That's okay.

It's... it's just been a
bit of a... of a process.

[SCOFFS]

Yeah.

That's why we needed
a change of scenery.

Ah.

So... so, tell me,

what's, um... what's this about
you giving up on the male nudes?

- That cannot be for real.
- I guess, yeah.

Uh, after everything with Jamie,

it just didn't feel right anymore.

I want to paint light now, the sky.

You know, I-I think I'm going
to leave you two to catch up,

and I'm gonna take a stroll.

Oh, okay.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

[EXHALES SHARPLY]

[SIGHS]

Oh.

You need some good boots
to survive this shoreline.

- Yeah.
- [CHUCKLES]

- Tourist's thing to do, huh?
- Maybe.

But you managed to
find the one quiet spot

in the midst of the mayhem.

That's a sign of character in my book.

It's good, isn't it?

Yeah, it's where I come to recharge.

I work for my family, so, you know...

I need the breaks.

We're... we're up in that big
red building down there...

- Muldoon Fish Company.
- Oh, yeah.

I saw the T-shirts.

Mm.

Yeah, we're pretty much
everywhere on this island.

[CHUCKLES]

They say you can never
escape your family, right?

I guess that's right.

Yeah, well, sure is for me. [SNIFFS]

So are you a fisherman... woman-type?

- Or a fisherwoman?
- [CHUCKLES]

Do you fish?

Actually, just so you know,
the, uh... the women who fish

prefer to be called "girl fishermen,"

which... which, personally,
I think is problematic

on multiple levels.

But what can you do?

Have you, uh... have you been here long?

I got here today.

Mm.

Has she spoken to you yet?

Who?

The ocean.

Uh...

I don't think so.

Mm, she will. [BREATHES DEEPLY]

She's in a mood today.

How can you tell?

It's like a-a vibration or
frequency or something.

Does that sound weird? [CHUCKLES]

No, it's...

I usually even wonder if
nature notices us at all.

I think she does.

Yeah, all the time. [CHUCKLES]

Well, my time's up. [SIGHS]

You have a good one.

Yeah, you too.

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

[GRUNTS]

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

- Was that okay?
- Yeah.

It was perfect.

It's just...

I'm never quite sure how hard to do it.

I-I don't want to hurt you.

Was that hard enough?

Looked like you wanted to hurt me.

So it was perfect.

[CHUCKLES]

Wait, where's your medication?
I don't... I don't see it here.

Actually, I left them at home.

W-what do you mean?
That's... that's not good.

Yeah, it's okay. I...

You can't just stop antidepressants

like that all at once...
that's really dangerous.

I know. I've been weaning
myself off them.

Dr. Carragher's advising me.

What do you... What?
That's... Since when?

It's been a few weeks now.

I told you.

You said you were thinking about it.

You didn't say that you
were actually doing.

Well, I never should have
been on them begin with.

That was the therapist's idea,
and that's all over with now.

I wish you had told me.

I-I really think that's something
I should know about.

Yeah.

You're right.

Won't that just make
your insomnia worse?

[SCOFFS] No.

It'll be fine.

[GRILL IGNITER CLICKING]

Leave me alone.

Leave me alone.

I'm serious.

Stop it!

[OMINOUS MUSIC]

[GROANS]

[GROANS LOUDLY]

[SHOUTING]

[CRYING]

Hey!

Hey!

[GRUNTS]

[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]

Hey!

Hey!

East cove is clear!

Let's move over to the west.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

Bring your men back in!

[INDISTINCT CHATTER OVER POLICE RADIO]

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Ah, I just talked to the dive captain.

Ah...

still nothing.

They're saying it's tough
with the surf right now.

We'll see.

Okay.

It's kind of strange because
the tide's coming in.

So they're saying if there was a body

that it'd be pushed into
the rocks, not out to sea.

I'd say that the currents
are pretty tricky out there,

the way the rocks are.

Look, I know I asked,
but I need to ask again.

You sure you haven't
been drinking tonight?

[SIGHS]

- No, I haven't been drinking.
- What about dr*gs?

Medications you're on?

- It's just better that we know now.
- Come on, please.

I saw her fall.

Yeah, I get it.

It's just... if you're right,

it's gonna upset a lot of people.

The Muldoons are big
g*ns on this island.

Percy's their golden child.

This kind of thing is tough for anybody.

[VEHICLE APPROACHING]

Oh, boy.

I'm sorry to drag you
out like this, Meg.

You're scaring the
hell out of me, Lou...

Well, we don't know anything yet.

Now, you sure you haven't
heard from Percy?

- She's not answering her cell.
- Okay.

Okay, well, maybe she's asleep.

Yeah, maybe she crashed
at Kerry's... I don't know.

We didn't even know she wasn't home.

Meg, this is Harry Ambrose.
Harry, this is Meg Muldoon.

This is Percy's grandmother
and her uncle Colin.

Harry's the one who thinks he saw Percy.

Well, we're still piecing
together the situation.

What is the situation exactly?

I... This doesn't make any sense.

It was about a-an hour ago or
so that I was walking in town,

and I saw your granddaughter
ahead of me,

and it seemed like she was uneasy.

Maybe she was trying to
get away from somebody.

And she took the path up here.
I tried to catch up to her.

That's when I saw her out on the bluff,

and she went straight out onto the edge.

All of a sudden... she jumped.

What?

What do you mean she jumped?

You didn't tell me this.

Well, I... well, we just
don't know, Meg.

He just said that she walked
out there by herself

and jumped into the water.

- That's what I saw.
- This is ridiculous.

Yeah, I-I'm sorry, Meg.
It's a terrible thing to...

She wouldn't do that.

It doesn't make any sense.

Well, there's got to be a mistake.

How, uh... exactly do you know Percy?

Today down at the docks,
we happened to start talking.

She mentioned she worked
for the family business,

your Muldoon Fish Company.

You just happened to
bump into her out here

in the middle of the night?

I had trouble sleeping,
went for a walk, I saw her.

You followed her?

Just wanted to make sure she was okay.

[CAR DOOR CLOSES]

Right.

- What's going on?
- It's a f*cking shitshow.

That's Sean. He's Percy's father.

- That guy thinks he saw...
- Uh, hey, mister.

Where were you exactly
when you saw Percy?

- By the trees.
- Will you show me, please?

- Meg, I think it's probably best...
- That's all right,

I'll show her.

So I was here.

There isn't even a clear view.

I can't even see out of here.

Did you know this?

I didn't realize it was that far.

And right here?

Percy could have just stepped over.

You wouldn't even see it.

There's a way off over here.
Did you know that?

I know this is hard to accept,

but I saw her.

No, you did not see her
because I can barely see out.

- How can you be so sure?
- Meg, I think...

I don't know what to think here.

Lou, he's a man walking around
in the middle of the night,

following my granddaughter.

Look, I was a police
detective for years.

If I see something,
I'm going to try to help.

I think the best thing we can do

is just wait until we know more.
That's all we can do.

I'll bet you that Percy's
gonna get in touch.

In a couple of hours, she's gonna
be hungover somewhere,

and we're all gonna
laugh this off, okay?

In the meantime, I need you
to come down to the station,

fill out a proper report.

[HARRY SIGHS]

God, I can't believe it.

That's awful.

Did... did she seem depressed
when you spoke with her?

Was there anything that you noticed?

No. No, nothing.

Hmm.

She seemed thoughtful, not depressed,

and the family seemed
surprised by it, too.

You sure you're okay?

Yeah, yeah.

Just... I keep going over it in my head,

and I'm not even sure anymore
if I saw what I saw.

You know, it was dark, and...

maybe I made a mistake.

You know, I put that family
through hell for no reason.

What else could it have been?

Mm...

maybe it just looked like she fell,

and my brain made up the rest.

Maybe I'm getting old.

I wish you had called me.

Oh...

I'm going to cancel
with Greta for today.

- No, oh, no, don't.
- What?

You know, you should keep your plan.

No, I can meet with her
another day. I'll be with you.

No, I'll be fine.

Yeah, I got to get some sleep anyway.

[LINE TRILLING]

- Yeah, this is Lou.
- Hey, Chief Raskin.

- It's Harry Ambrose.
- Oh, hey, Harry.

- How you doing?
- Look, uh, calling to see

if there's any news.

Ah, no, they still haven't
found anything in the cove,

and the Muldoons haven't
heard from Percy either.

But get this... one of
the lobstermen here,

he was up at : this morning,

and he swears he saw Percy

drive by in her car last
night at around : .

That's about a half hour
after your call.

After?

He's pretty sure about the timing?

Yeah, well, he's up at the
same time every morning.

What do you make of that?

Just like this...

you know, very particular
how they were arranged.

Somebody placed them, I think.

It was intentional.

I don't understand.

Right before Percy jumped,

she looked behind her.

It was like she was seeing somebody.

So I went back, and I walked in
the direction of her eyeline,

and that's where I found these.

Right. But, I mean, what are they?

Is that a piece of rope? You...

Don't. You got to fingerprint them.

I mean, if I were you, I'd try to
get these things fingerprinted.

And how do these help us find her?

You know, when she looked behind her...

somebody might have been there.

Someone whose prints might
still be on these things.

You said that you think that
Percy's still alive somewhere.

She might be with that person.

- I think she jumped.
- Jesus Christ, Josh.

- Come on.
- I'm just saying.

All right. [SIGHS]

Well, I guess it won't hurt to
have these dusted for prints.

Great.

[SIGHS]

What about her cell phone?

Ah, the phone companies
haven't found anything.

The phone's off or busted.

- Okay.
- [COFFEE POURING]

[SIGHS]

Oh, Meg Muldoon insisted

that I run a background
check on you, just in case.

I-I didn't think it was necessary.

You got an impressive track record.

Well, I don't know.

How long you been retired?

[INHALES DEEPLY]

- It's almost a year.
- Hmm.

I got five years until
my pension kicks in.

I can't wait.

It must be heaven.

Yeah.

Okay, well, uh, let me know

if you need anything else, I guess.

Ah, sure thing. I appreciate it.

Sure.

- Okay, uh...
- Yeah.

- Liability issues.

Say, uh, I... also,
I heard from Chief Raskin.

Still no news about your daughter,

and I just want to say

it's got to be pretty tough on you.

Well, uh... we're doing
everything we can.

Yeah, you know, something that
I've been wondering about, uh...

do you know when she left last night?

Oh, around : .. Why?

Any idea where she went?

- Hey, what's going on here?
- He's asking about Percy.

I just was wondering
whether any of you knew

where Percy went last
night after she left work.

No. I'm sorry.

Are you investigating this now?

No, no.

Uh, just... I'm trying to make
sense of it, you know.

I... was wondering whether
she talked to someone.

That could be a good
lead about where she is.

What does that matter, if we're
supposed to believe your story?

Well, there are some loose ends.

So you're changing it.

You think she might be
alive somewhere, too?

Well, I saw what I saw...

but I might've...

Maybe I made a mistake.

Look, mister, I appreciate your concern,

but it's our job to find my
granddaughter, not yours.

So let's leave it at that, all right?

You can go out that way.

Uh, thanks.

- Appreciate the time.
- Take care.

[BOAT THUDS, WHIRRING]

Mike, what the hell are

- What about?
- Doesn't matter, man.

Docks, the fish...
it's always like that.

[INDISTINCT ARGUING]

Any of you see Percy Muldoon
when she left work yesterday?

Yeah, she went to that bar
they all go to, The Knot.

- You watch it, don't you?
- Yeah, I do.

- I'll own it.
- Yeah, I believe you.

f*ck you.

Percy's exactly like her grandmother.

She's a boss, you know?

She made captain before she was ,

and I heard she could outlast
any crew on the long hauls.

Strong girl. Real local spirit.

You know, I been hearing that.

Like somebody who probably
never seemed troubled

or depressed or anything.

- No, she's not the kind at all.
- Oh.

Hey, Kerry. You seen her
come in last night...

she was normal, right?

- Yeah.
- The girl had made it, too.

I mean, the whole Muldoon business,

everything Meg built...
it's all going to her.

Doesn't make sense she would
jump off a cliff like that.

Sam, Colin Muldoon says
that story is bullshit.

She's missing.

Well, why they dredging the bay, then?

But she was here last night.

- What time was that?
- Around : or so.

I convinced her to try a
couple of tunes with me.

We used to play together in high school.

Oh, um, can I also get one of those?

- Sure.
- Hi, what can I get for you?

Uh, what looks good today?

I just got a haul of mackerel
in this morning.

Oh, great. I'll take two
pounds of that, please.

That'll be $ . .

- Thanks for coming in today.
- Thank you.

Uh, excuse me.

You know the cameras
that are on pier two?

Would you happen to have access

to the security footage from those?

Who are you?

Uh, Harry Ambrose.
I'm helping out Chief Raskin.

We're trying to find
the Muldoon girl, Percy.

Do they, uh, know what
happened to her yet?

We're looking into it. Uh...

were you working here two
nights ago on Saturday?

No.

Uh...

what about that, uh, footage?

Do you have access to the video files?

Well, I can't just show you those.

It's an investigation.

I mean, are you a cop?

Um...

Ah.

Keep going.

Keep going.

There. There she is.

Okay, it's : .

That's about five minutes
before I saw her.

What's she doing?

Look, someone's there.

She's scared.

What the hell was that?

She got down on her knees.

It was like she was worshiping them.

How strange.

Somebody has a hold on her.

And that night on the bluff
when she looked back...

I think that person was there.

And you think that person has her now?

I don't... Well, I don't know.

That grill, it's... still
not working right...

Wait, wait, wait. I have to say...

[STAMMERS]

Look, I know this whole thing
is... is creepy and weird,

but you look so energized
and alive. [CHUCKLES]

I actually think...

it would be a good thing
to get back into it.

Maybe.
