02x06 - Who Are You?

Post by bunniefuu »

Previously on "The Walking
Dead: World Beyond"...

If the CRM would've destroyed Omaha,

- it would've gone through my mother.
- She's lying to you.

I'm the closest thing to a
friend in the CR you got.

- So, Dad's happy?
- HOPE: He has a girlfriend.

- You're gonna turn yourselves in?
- That's our plan.

ASHA: What if we turned you in,
made it look like we caught you?

We need to talk.

But these are coded CRM transmissions

proving that the m*llitary
brought in those empties.

- The new TS has arrived?
- As you requested.

Until further notice,
you'll be answering to me.

[WALKERS GROWLING, WEAPONS STABBING]

WILL: Hold fire.

I got it.

[GRUNTS]

[WALKERS GROWLING]

[g*nsh*t]

Everybody okay? Leo, you good?

Yeah, yeah. Just another
day at the office.

Sorry about that. A small column
we were tracking dipped south,

a little too close for comfort.

We'll wait it out here
for a few minutes,

until our disruption charges
turn them around.

WILL: Charges might draw
more incoming from the south.

We'll scout ahead.

Are all your research
expeditions this exciting?

[CHUCKLES] Almost never.

[WALKER GROWLING]

No, don't! It's one of ours.

Its geo-tracker must've
malfunctioned again.

I thought the hard reset coding
would've fixed the issue.

[BEEP, STATIC]

[ELECTRICITY ZAPPING]

Apparently not.

Just hold him while I try a diagnostic.

We fireproofed the
bio-recorder's data box,

just in case. [CHUCKLES]

[PAPERS RUSTLE]

[BOTH CHUCKLE]

Oh, that's okay, Dr. Bennett.

Please, just call me Leo.

All right then, Leo.

[CHUCKLES]

So, uh, what do you think

of our humble little
research facility so far?

It's remarkable.

The infrastructure, the equipment.

It's... It's beyond
anything I'd imagined.

Geo-glitches aside...

[CHUCKLES]

... I can't wait to see more.

From what I can gather, it's
coded data from field tests

conducted in the aftermath
of what appears to be

some sort of large-scale chemical event.

This "V" symbol seen over and over...

It must be referencing a specific
project here at the facility.

Wait, so the CRM used a chemical w*apon

to k*ll everybody back home?

Then lured the empties
in to cover it up.

- That has to be it, right?
- We have exactly two minutes

to meet Silas at the back terminal.

You sure these are legit, Doc?

They're not some, uh,
new con she's planning?

No, no. The specificity here...
whatever this is, it's real.

And it's been going on right
under my nose this entire time.

Okay, well, maybe the scientists
in on it didn't know or...

or they're working against their will.

Or maybe they knew exactly what
they were doing and just didn't care.

Okay, we have to make a decision now

or the decision gets made for us.

Are we leaving or are we staying?

We have to stay.

These are people's lives
we're talking about.

Portland needs to know.

We have to figure out what's going on,

- what... what all this means.
- FELIX: Okay.

We need to leave word
for Will and Elton.

What are we gonna do about Silas?

I told Silas not to wait
for us if we didn't show,

to go back to the Outpost
until we figured things out.

We just have to hope that's what he did.

That's it, then? You're
scrapping the escape plan?

Hope's right. We need answers.

And then what?

Then we make sure they
don't get away with it.

Okay, then. Let's get some answers.

IRIS: Why would the CRM wipe
out two whole communities?

For the research, or was the
research just part of it?

That's what I'm trying to find out.

FELIX: You were a mole in both places.

If anyone would know, it's you.

I told you, I was just part of a
standard observe and report mission.

- At least, until...
- Until it became about me.

My mother was the one who
oversaw the CR's dealings

between Omaha and the Campus Colony.

I was nobody.

Yeah, so sh**ting me and
k*lling my uncle was your call.

k*lling everybody else was hers?

Is that about right?

Only Major General Beale could've
authorized something this big.

But yeah.

My mom would've seen the order.

You don't have any idea why
they'd do something like this?

Even before they formed the Alliance

with Omaha and Portland,

the Civic Republic kept
its location hidden

to make sure that everything
within its borders

was kept at a statistical balance.

Resources, food, population.

An influx of people,
a potential for conflict.

Any of that would have jeopardized
what they've built.

Someway, somehow, Beale must've thought

that Omaha and the Campus Colony
was a thr*at to that balance.

The Hidden City... where is it?

If you're being so open
and honest, tell us.

This is bullshit.

I came to you for answers,
not the other way around.

I need more time.

You want answers?

You stay with me.

You know where to find me.

[SIGHS]

Having Indira turn you in?
That was smart.

But whatever great escape
you think you figured out,

you haven't.

Trust me.

All right, we need to get
that note to Will and Elton.

Our window's closing soon.

- I'll write it.
- Best to keep it short.

Say we're delayed,
we're safe. That's it.

Got it.

[INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS]

JADIS: Jennifer!

[DOOR CLOSES]

Staff Sergeant.

Warrant Officer Stokes.

Whatcha doing here?

Lt. Colonel Kublek brought me
in to perform a security audit

during her absence.

And I think we've been through too much

for you not to call me by my first name.

Heard about you moving up, Jadis.

So, you're good just being a cop, huh?

m*llitary cop.

I'm taking great satisfaction
in investigating corruption

and ineptitude, betrayal.

- You seen any?
- [CHUCKLES LIGHTLY]

You know, you had potential
as an actual soldier.

I know.

And that hurts, coming from
the woman who trained me,

taught me what's worth fighting for.

Hope we get to catch up
a little while I'm here.

And I hope I don't have to arrest you.

You told me that last time you saw me.

But I'm serious this time.

[BOTH CHUCKLE]

Back the hell off, bitch.

Heard about you coming in from
the cold. I'm glad you're okay.

Knew you would be, though.

Know about Plaskett and Carlucci
and the Bennett sisters

and the boy with the corduroy.
Know about all of it.

I see the whole picture. That's my job.

So, what do you see?

I see my mentor.

The most dedicated soldier in
the Civic Republic m*llitary.

A woman who would slash her face

and break her limbs for the cause.

Your mother's loaned me
her office. Come by later.

I have some rum made
from Brazilian cane.

New distillery in Ward .

Might even let you call me
"bitch" one more time

without putting you on the floor.

I'm so glad to see you again.

Yeah, me too.

Got weak links to find.

See you later.

[DOOR OPENS]

[DOOR CLOSES]

So, did you actually write
what Felix told you to, or...

More or less. Why?

Judging by how long it took you
to finish it, I'm guessing more.

Not a narc. Just observing.

What's a narc?

- Seriously?
- Yeah.

So, you're good with
the change of plans?

I made a promise to you.

And then I made one to myself.

Still planning on keeping both.

Even if it's the last thing you do?

If it is, then it is.

I'm hoping it's not.

[LOCK CLICKS]

Now, the one we're looking for

has got a hole in the back bumper.

Shouldn't be hard to spot.

I'll take it from here.

You're really not gonna
ask me what it says?

I trust you.

I'm sure it says what it needs to.

_

- [SIGHS]
- [DOOR OPENS]

Hey.

Hey.

I just heard the news about
Iris and Felix. How are they?

- They're okay?
- They... They just came in.

- I was about to tell you.
- Oh, no, no, no. Please.

Y-You must be so relieved.

Oh, uh, I picked out some clothes
for them from the stockpile.

It's, uh... becoming my thing.

- [CHUCKLES]
- Thank you.

- I, um...
- Oh.

We can definitely
rain-check dinner tonight

- if that's what you're...
- Oh.

Oh, I completely forgot.

That... That... That's
not what I'm, uh...

Okay. It's just... you seem...

You know what?

Maybe a refreshing dose
of domestic normalcy

is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I mean, you must have a million
other things that you...

No, no. No. Your name's already come up.

I think it'd be good if you met them.

That's s...

Oy. [CHUCKLES]

[SOUNDS ECHOING]

_

- _
- That's okay, Dr. Bennett. I got it.

Please, call me Leo.

Oh. All right then, Leo.

[SOUNDS DISTORTED]

[ECHOING, DISTANT] Let's say : .

[LOUDER] For dinner?

Right. Yes.

Yes. Uh, I'll see you then.

Okay. I'm looking forward to it.

- Me, too.
- [CHUCKLES]

[DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYS]

_

_

What is it?

They're not leaving.

WILL: What do you mean
they're not leaving?

They were supposed to get
in, grab Hope and her dad,

and get out. What else
could they be doing?

_

They're gonna start a w*r.

[WATER RUNNING]

[MUFFLED VOICES]

HOPE: [FAINTLY] Is he sure?

IRIS: [FAINTLY] And she's
coming over for dinner.

PERCY: [FAINTLY]
The hits just keep coming.

Dad?

- You okay?
- Yeah. I just...

I need to know.

Know what?

How much Lyla knows.

If she's here for dinner, that
means she won't be in her lab.

Gonna need you to do something for me.

But not just you.

HUCK: You want to break
into Belshaw's lab?

No. No way, man.

It's way too dangerous.

If we're caught, we're dead.

You said that you wanted answers.

You told Leo that you wanted
to stop them, and this is...

What I wanted was for Leo to
give me his take on the research.

He did. Okay, you don't
get to just drop this

in somebody else's lap and walk away.

Like it or not, you're in it now.

So, what's our best way in?

[PRINTER WHIRS]

You're officially on as Leo's detail.

Won't give you much access, but...

it's your alibi if anyone
asks why you're here.

Plus, you get this.

- This is yours.
- Yeah.

Yours is still in lockup.

Now, I either try and transfer
Lyla's access onto my own card,

or I find a way to copy hers.

Thought this was your area of expertise.

I'm a soldier, not a hacker.

You're not a soldier. You're a mole.

Was it worth it? The lying? The k*lling?

For what, for "greater good"?

Think I wanted to do those things?

- [BEEP]
- _

It's not working.

[SIGHS] Can't we just break in?

All those labs are grouped together,

researchers working at all hours.

What if what we're looking for
isn't in Lyla's lab at all?

If she's keeping something secret,

she'd be smart to keep
it somewhere else.

Somewhere private.

Let me check the keycard access logs,

see where she's been.

- [BEEP]
- There.

Daily trips to sub-seven, C- .

Except for the bio-containment unit,

there's nothing down there.

That letter could mean anything.

Or it could mean exactly what it says.

We need to take immediate
action to protect ourselves.

What kind of action?

We turn in the remaining
two and warn the CRM...

our longtime allies,
I might remind everyone...

of the impending trouble their
little group intends to cause.

I only helped the others
infiltrate the facility

with the council's backing.

We gave them our word that
we would keep them safe.

And you gave us your
word you'd keep us safe.

We are safe.

The CRM knows nothing
about our involvement.

We have been living with their
boots on our necks for so long.

If the others want to
give the CRM some hell,

why shouldn't we help them?

She has a point, Brody.

- We need to pick a side.
- You're right. We do.

I'm sorry, Indira.

I have no choice but to propose

a vote of no confidence
in our chairperson.

I told Felix to stick to the plan.

I sure as hell hope he and
Percy didn't do anything...

- It's worse.
- What?

What's worse?

Elton, what do you know?

[CHICKENS CLUCKING, INDISTINCT
CONVERSATIONS IN DISTANCE]

Indira is sick.

It's her kidneys.

Saline dialysis and blood thinners

are the only thing keeping her alive,

all of which she gets from
the Research Facility.

She's kept it a secret from
everyone except her family.

I mean, I only found out by accident.

There's no way that Felix and
Iris know, because if they did,

then they would know that
burning down the facility,

if that's really what they're planning,

that would destroy
everything she needs to live.

So, you're both good.

Brody tried to pull
some sh*t, but, um...

You can stay. At least for now.

WILL: Thank you.

But I'm not staying. I can't.

I need to get back inside the Facility.

_

Back there with the access logs.

Seemed like you'd done that before.

If I had, we probably
never would've met.

You asked me about my
assignment in Omaha.

Truth is, it wasn't just
some call to duty.

It was about getting back
in the CRM's good graces.

What'd you do?

Tried to cover for my
husband's screw-up.

You were married?

Still am.

A Master Sergeant on the fast track.

Golden boy.

Had some demons, but who doesn't?

[SIGHS] We were leading our team

through some training
maneuvers with empties.

Things went south, he made a
tough call, people got hurt.

If you ask me, he actually saved lives.

Thing was, he'd been drinking.

There was gonna be an investigation.

Promised me he'd clean up his act

if I just took some of the heat off.

[CARD READER BEEPS, LOCK CLICKS]

So I went on record saying
the call was mine, not his.

The camera we'd used to document
the exercise was messed up,

so they brought in the tape
to salvage it as evidence.

So, late one night,
I slipped into the tech room

and made sure they couldn't.

If I'd just remembered to wipe
the damn keycard logs...

- Why'd you do it?
- 'Cause. I loved him.

Hell, maybe I still do.

There it is.

[HANDLE JIGGLES, CARD READER BEEPING]

I'll have to cut the power to
this part of the security grid.

There's a backup generator,

but it'll take at least
two minutes to kick in.

Means we only have that long
to do everything we need to.

Where do we cut the power?

Transformer's clear across the compound.

Too far to get there and back

- in under two minutes.
- Okay. We split up.

I'll go cut the power, you go in,
see what you can find.

- We can use these to keep in touch.
- Okay.

But that first part's me.

Mm, so, my ass is the one on the line

in case this all goes wrong?
That's how this works?

I know where everything is
and how to cover my tracks.

Plus, you'd be flying blind.

Listen, you're the one who came to me.

So, we either play by my rules, or...

Or what, hm?

What are you gonna do? Walk away?

Just keep on burying
your head in the sand?

Would you be okay with that,
after everything you've done?

What they did wasn't me,

and nothing we do tonight
will bring those people back.

So, yeah, I'm willing to walk.

Are you?

Wait for my go. Or don't.

Okay, I could have been an amazing chef.

[LAUGHTER]

Dad, back me up.

I plead the fifth.

- Oh!
- [GASPS]

[LAUGHTER]

Um, so, Lyla...

what did you do for a living?

Before all this?

LYLA: Oh. Um, Big Pharma.

I worked on treatments
for a variety of diseases.

But, oh, I don't want to
bore you with all that.

Uh, does that mean
you tested on animals?

Unfortunately, yes. Industry standard.

Eh, if it's so "unfortunate,"

maybe it shouldn't have been standard.

Well, uh, in most cases,

testing on isolated cells didn't...

d-doesn't produce reliable results.

If sacrificing a few mice means
saving thousands of lives,

isn't that worth it?

I guess it depends on
where you draw the line.

I mean, what if what
you're doing is worse

than the disease you're trying to cure?

Um, this might be a discussion
better suited for a classroom.

Oh, no, no. No. No, no.

Uh, she has a point.

I guess in the end,

it comes down to how much
of your own humanity,

your own soul, you're
willing to sacrifice

in service of the greater good.

We all do things we
wish we didn't have to,

but that's just... life.

No.

It's not just life.

You choose to do those things.
It's always a choice.

To say that it's not, Lyla,
that... that is an excuse.

Hey, Iris, um, maybe we
should go check on Felix,

see if he's, uh, doing any better.

- No, I'm fine.
- I think it's a good idea.

If you'll excuse me.

- Oh, I-I-I should... probably go.
- No, no, no.

No. She... She... She...
She just needs a moment to cool off.

Uh...

Please. Stay.

Iris, what the hell?

You're supposed to be keeping
me from doing stupid sh*t,

- not the other way around.
- Hope...

I just can't with her.

With this place.

And I really don't see how you can.

Look, I know you don't want to hear it,

but there are good people here.

The scientists, the students like us.

I'm helping them with something
that could be important,

a breakthrough, maybe.

I'm not saying that that
changes what the CRM did

or what Lyla's done,
but they are not them.

I k*lled one of them.

What?

A soldier.

I k*lled a soldier. In the woods.

I did it because he was the enemy.

And I'd do it again.

'Cause that is what they are.

We need to be ready.

Everyone on the outside already is.

That's what I told them in the note.

The dead drop note?

What did you write?

I told them we were gonna find
out what the CRM is up to,

stop them from ever doing it again,

and then we're gonna burn
this place to the ground.

Felix, I'm in place.

You ready?

Ready when you are.

[ELECTRICITY ZAPPING]

[GENERATOR POWERING DOWN]

[LIGHTS BUZZING]

[CLANKING]

[GLASS SHATTERS]

sh*t.

Go! Now!

[WATCH BEEPS]

[DOOR CREAKS, SLAMS]

MAN [ON WALKIE]:
Patrol Three reporting, over.

WOMAN: Patrol Five, reporting
and responding, over.

Patrol Six? Staff Sergeant Mallick?

Report, over.

Staff Sergeant Mallick?

[GATE CLATTERS]

_

Huck, whatever they
used to take out Omaha,

there's more of it.

Huck, do you copy?

Huck?

[GATE BANGS]

[BUZZERS SOUNDING]

[GRUNTING]

Huck.

Huck!

I can cut you through Larkin Notch,

get you a half-mile from the RF

without the long-range
patrols spotting you.

Mm. Then what?

There's a holding pen there,
along the fenceline.

It's where the scientists keep
the empties they use for study.

- Security's more lax there.
- Yeah, because they assume

no one's actually crazy
enough to cut through.

It's how I get in.

And once I do, I'll let the others
know about your mom,

make sure whatever they're up to

doesn't jeopardize the
medicine that she needs.

Indira's risked everything for us.

I owe her this.

Then at least take me
and Elton with you.

If the others make it out
or things go sideways,

I need you both safe.

Hey, don't tell me you're worried.

I just don't want to get
stuck holding the bag

if Mom finds out.

- What am I supposed to tell her?
- I don't know.

Tell her that instead of her
taking care of everyone else,

someone's off taking care
of her for a change.

And tell her it's pretty fun

leaving my little sister
holding the bag sometimes.

We should go.

Be safe.

[DOOR OPENS]

[DOOR CLOSES]

I'm sorry I broke my promise.

You were worried about my mom.

That's the thing with secrets.

They almost never wanna stay secret.

Where you going?

To pray for their safety.

Can I come?

You want to pray?

The last time the people I cared
about most in the world left me...

they never came back.

I'd just rather not be alone right now.

[ELECTRICITY BUZZES]

Well, looks like the grid's
trying to come back on.

Yeah.

I should really go check on my lab.

No, it's... i-it's fine.

All the labs are run
by backup generators.

Right?

- If this is about Iris...
- No, no, no. It's not. Um...

Tonight's just brought
up some things for me.

What kind of things?

Whatever it is, you can tell me.

There is something.

Something I haven't been
honest with you about.

But I'll need you to come with me.

It's better if I show you.

Uh... okay.

[GRUNTING]

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

Huck. Huck.

Come on. Talk to me.

You can't just walk away.

Not from me.

Not from what they did.

sh*t!

You're not gonna tell me
where you're taking me?

We're here.

I don't understand.

You've asked if I had a
family before all this,

and I've barely said a word, but...

I should tell you what happened to them.

[BREATH CATCHES]

It was, uh, right at the start.

Mia, my daughter... she was six.

She'd been bitten by a man who
had gotten into our backyard.

Well, he... he wasn't so much
of a man anymore, but...

Kevin, my husband...

he slept with Mia in her bed that night.

She'd gotten so sick so fast,
and he loved her so much.

The next morning, I went
to check on them, and...

Kevin was on the floor, bleeding out,

his neck almost chewed through.

And Mia had... changed.

She wasn't my little girl anymore.

And a few hours later,
Kevin wasn't my husband.

The phones had stopped working,

and most of the neighbors
were gone, so I...

I just kept them there.

And then one day,
there was this... crash.

[SNIFFLES] Something had fallen.

They were pinned b-beneath a bookcase.

And that's when I knew
what I needed to do.

I grabbed an extension cord,
some belts from my closet,

and I made it so they
couldn't att*ck me.

And then I found my old
medical kit in the garage,

and I did everything
I could to fix them.

[VOICE BREAKING] I did things to them.

Horrible things.

Whatever I could think of to try to...

bring my husband and baby girl back.

But I couldn't.

I have spent my life looking
for cures for diseases, but...

I couldn't cure my family.

They're the reason I'm here
doing the work that I'm doing.

Yes, for the Alliance,
but... really, for them.

I couldn't fix my family,

but maybe someday...

I can help fix the world.

[SHUDDERING]

Huck... [BREATHING HEAVILY]

I don't know if you can hear me, or...

or if you're okay.

Damn it, Huck.

If you're with me, I need you to say it.

Just say something.

[SHUDDERING]

[DOOR BANGS]

C'mon, let's go.

Ohh!

- You okay?
- What the hell happened to you, huh?

I thought that you were...

The walls must have
interfered with the comms.

The backup generator kicked in early.

I had to reprogram my card so
I could open this door manually.

Look, I gotta wipe those access
logs so I don't have a repeat

of two years ago on my hands,

only a hell of a lot worse.

- You find anything?
- Yeah.

Whatever it is, there's a
hell of a lot more of it.

- I'll get it to Leo.
- Yeah.

Keep me posted.

- I sh... I should go.
- Yeah.

And listen... Look, I don't
know how this is gonna end,

or what happens to me,

but for whatever it's worth,

I am with you.

At least, until I can't be.

[EXHALES FORCEFULLY, SHUDDERS]

[DOOR OPENS]

HUCK: What's up? You wanted to see me?

- Just checking on that drink.
- [CHUCKLES]

Christ, you used the comms for that?

I am a determined woman
when it comes to my friends.

I was worried when you didn't respond.

My walkie d*ed when I keyed it.

[LIGHTS BUZZ]

That short in the grid didn't help.

[LIQUID POURS, BOTTLE THUDS]

[SIGHS]

We never talked about what I did
to get into the Civic Republic,

six years ago now.

I know you were a rescue.

I was living by my wits
in the wilderness.

I created a little
society quite quickly.

I can believe that.

Here's a tip... you want
to create a civilization

from scratch in a hurry,

give them their own language.

- Mm.
- Give them a little theater to share in.

They'll make that theater real.

It'll bond them,

separate from everyone else.

So, you were ambitious,
even as a survivor.

I was.

But I loved my people.

I lost them 'cause I made
the wrong alliances.

- Sorry.
- So was I.

And after, I had an opportunity,

and I created a ticket to
get into the Civic Republic.

I gave the CRM something very valuable,

and I got a new life.

For the first time in
years, I had safety,

but my purpose was gone.

'Til I realized that it wasn't.

It had just expanded.

Mm.

My purpose was still to survive.

And I'd gotten good at it with
everything that I'd been through.

You're still an ambitious survivor.

Moving up.

Oh, it's not just about moving up.

I know that the Civic Republic
is the last light of the world,

and my purpose is to create
a new era on this planet.

It's your purpose, too.

It is.

The way you keep saying it makes
me wonder if you believe it.

Your mother asked me to keep
an eye on you while I was here.

It was couched as a mother's worry,

but I wonder

if she thinks that you may
have been out there too long,

that you've formed some bonds,

that you've become a different person.

She doesn't. You're wrong.

Or I'm right about her and
she's wrong about you.

The theater that helps you
survive is hard to let go.

Before the world ended,
my name wasn't Jadis.

But that name, that identity,

it helped me live, so Jadis is who I am.

You're stronger than me.

You're stronger than most.

If your mother is worried,
you might be confused.

It would be understandable.

We could help her prove
that you're not, Huck.

[GLASS THUDS]

My name's not Huck.

Am I your investigation?

I'm here to investigate a few things.

If you were one of them, it'd be easy.

I could help you prove
that you're still you,

and you could help me by
talking up how wonderful I am

to anyone who will listen.

I need a promotion before
the end of the year.

Like I said.

You're an ambitious survivor.

[SIGHS]

I already bled and broke
my bones for the corps,

done everything I could to
prove what I'm made of.

You've done a lot, no question.

But there is always more.

[LIQUID POURING]

[CRICKETS CHIRPING]

[WALKERS GROWLING]

ELTON: So, how's this
going to work, exactly?

ASHA: We free their
souls, and have faith

that a little bit of their positive
energy finds its way to Dev

and Will.

Let's begin.

[INAUDIBLE]

We're close.

It's just over that hill.

So, how do you know this
area so well, anyway?

Wandering off.

Sneaking out.

Did a lot of that growing up.

Having a home to sneak away from...

that's a lucky thing.

Yeah.

It is.

I owe you and your family everything.

You should head back.

I'll take it from here.

Speaking of family...

It was my dad's.

He gave it to me years
ago, before he, um...

Anyway, my mom doesn't
know that it exists,

and I haven't used it before, but...

I want you to have it.

[g*nsh*t]

PATROLMAN: Let's go.

- [g*nsh*t]
- [GRUNTS]

[g*nshots]

Heard he showed up yesterday.

He said he was lost. You believe that?

HOPE: I don't think she'll sell Dad out.

Why is it you are so willing

to give everyone here
the benefit of the doubt?

I'm not saying that I want to trust her.

We don't have a choice.

Dr. Belshaw, I'm afraid
we have a problem.

You wanna tell me what's going on?

Something valuable is missing.

I need it back.

Hope's right... we need answers.

PERCY: And then what?

Then, we make sure they
don't get away with it.

Okay, then. Let's get some answers.

When Leo first lays this
information on them,

the fact that there's
something going on here,

both Iris and Hope pretty
much instantly decide

that they need to stay,

but the thing is, is that
they decide to stay

for two different reasons.

There are good people here...

the scientists, students like us.

For Hope, it's really about,

not just finding out
what's going on here,

but she is convinced,
based on her time here

at the research facility,

that there are a lot of good people here

and they don't realize what's going on.

What did you write?

I told them we were going to
find out what the CRM is up to,

stop them from ever doing it again.

And then, we're going to burn
this place to the ground.

You know, for Iris, it's really
about she sees this place as evil,

you know, she wants to find
out what they're up to,

but it's not just to find out.

She also wants to do something about it.

She wants to put an end to it.

Her motivation is really
about vengeance,

which is a much darker
motivation than Hope's.

- [GRUNTS]
- [MOANING]

You see these, these empties
with these backpacks on them

and, you know, what this is,
we're finding out more about it,

but these are, essentially,
tracking devices

and they're a way to monitor
migration patterns,

as well as getting like their reaction

to environmental stimuli.

Their main goal is to find out

how to basically liquidate
them as a thr*at

and maybe this could be a small
stepping stone to that end.

Just understanding how they
operate is a big part of that.

[PAPERS RUSTLE]

- Oy.
- [BOTH CHUCKLE]

Oh, that's okay, Dr. Bennett.

Please, call me Leo.

Leo is someone who we've
always known was very smart.

He's doing great things
at the research facility,

but he's smart enough
to know that the CRM

isn't someone that they
can trust, necessarily,

but he does trust Lyla.

Hey.

Hey.

To that end, it really does
just floor him to... to realize

that this person that
he thought he trusted,

he can no longer trust.

And the thing for him, in this episode,

is he just wants to find out

how she's involved and to what degree,

what her motivations are,
and, really, like, who is she,

what makes her tick?

There is something.

Something I haven't been
honest with you about.

And he really just needs
answers from her,

without actually coming
out and asking her,

and, by the end of the episode,
he does get those answers

and I think it's pretty
shocking for him.

JADIS: Jennifer!

Staff Sergeant.

Warrant Officer Stokes.

The decision to bring Jadis on,

you know, I do think the
promise of a universe

is that all these different
worlds are connected

and it really felt like
a great opportunity

to start tying some threads together.

I created a little
society quite quickly.

I can believe that.

We really wanted to
amp up the stakes a bit

for the back half of Season .

You know, we've established
Elizabeth as this villain,

but, at the end of the day,
like she is Huck's mother

and she cares about Huck.

Until further notice,

you'll be answering to me.

And so there really was
something to the idea

of bringing in a character
that we've known before,

but we don't know what this
character is capable of.

So, you were ambitious,
even as a survivor.

I really want the audience
to look at Jadis

and, even though we know who she
is and where she's come from,

we don't really know what
she stands for anymore.

I know that the Civic Republic
is the last light of the world.

My purpose is to create
a new era on this planet.

It's your purpose, too.

And so that really puts
her at odds with Huck,

who is a former friend.

So she's there, really,
to remind Huck who she was

and to make sure that who
she was is still who she is.

So what's our best way in?

This is the first episode,
you know, we've seen,

since the end of last season,

where Huck and Felix are
actually working together.

They have this mission

and they have to be on the same
side for this, for it to work.

Wait for my go.

Or don't.

But, really, what this mission
comes down to, for both of them,

is trust... do they trust each other?

[ELECTRICITY CRACKLING]

Go! Now.

[BUZZ]

Felix was stuck in that freezer.

Felix thought that, maybe,
she had changed her mind

and there's... there's a world where,
maybe, Huck did, for a moment.

Huck, come on, talk to me.

We see her beside that transformer.

She's about to be exposed
and it's really hitting her,

in that moment, the
choice that she's made.

And, for Felix, he doesn't
know what to believe.

He wants to believe that
she's a good person,

but, in this moment,
he has doubts as well.

sh*t!

And it works out that
Huck comes through.

For whatever it's worth,

I am with you.

She's leaving some wiggle room
for herself in that moment.

She's not guaranteeing
that she's on his side.

At least, until I can't be.

She does assure Felix,
but at the same time,

she's assuring him just for now,

so, we'll see what happens next.

[EXHALES]

Oof.
