I should've known when you
insisted on giving me a ride

To my tower this morning
that something was going on.

She's been riding on
the beach every morning

For the last five
days at the same time.

I just had to
meet her, man.

-And make an impression.

-Riding lessons?

Bugged me to death about
taking riding lessons.

nine years old.

He's definitely lived up to
his name in the show ring.

He's a champion hunter, he's
won everything there is to win.

-You said that
max was recuperating

From an operation, huh?

-Yeah, well, max is
14 and he's been,

Well, jumping all his life.

His back legs are
giving him some trouble.

I gave him time off,

It just didn't seem to
make any difference.

About four months ago he
went through hock surgery

And I've only been
able to ride him again

These past few weeks.

Doctor gray will be
here later on today

And I'm kinda nervous how
max is gonna check out.

No pun intended, but his
future's kinda riding on this.

-Well, if you
want, maybe I can

Take your mind off this
for a couple hours.

That was dr. Gray
confirming our appointment

This afternoon for
max's evaluation.

max a lot don't you?

-Max's mom d*ed
when he was born.

I pulled him out of her and
bottle fed him as a colt.

I think he grew up believing
that I was his mother.

I guess I treated
him as my child.

You always want the
best for your child.

Even if it
breaks your heart.

-We think a lot alike.

-[Screaming]

-There's been an accident
at nicholas canyon beach.

There's a car, it's
gone over the cliff

And it's in the water.

We need paramedics now.

-[Dramatic music]

-Did you call 911?

-I called 911.
They're on their way.

-It's too late.

-What are we gonna do?

-We're gonna deliver
this baby right now.

Go get the
picnic blanket!

-[Screaming]

My name is mitch, I'm
an la county lifeguard.

right now on the beach.

to get you to the hospital.

-What an incredible day.

It started out with a
fabulous ride on the beach,

And a little picnic
and all of a sudden

There's a car in the water,
you're rescuing this woman

And we deliver
her baby together.

And it's not
even, what?

It's not even
two o'clock!

-You wanna go dancing?

-No, I'm still really
worried about max.

-Hey, we had a very
lucky day, right?

I'm sure max is
gonna be fine.

-Excuse me.

Excuse me, I'm looking
for mitch buchannon.

-Yeah, yeah

-[Laughing] I don't know

You saved my
wife and baby!

My wife tried to make it
to the hospital on her own

When she went
into labor because

She couldn't reach
me, you know?

And then she lost control
of the car because

The intense contractions
were so bad.

I am so angry with myself.

there for her.

South of our position.

-She's in real bad pain.

We need to get her
to the hospital.

She didn't equalize.

She may have
blown her eardrums.

-[Dramatic music]

That she was resting
comfortably but, they don't know

Whether her hearing loss is
gonna be temporary or permanent.

-She's over in max's stall.

-Mitch: thanks.

-I know, I spent the
night here in max's stall.

as much as he likes horses,

carving them than riding them.

I called headquarters
when you didn't show up,

Being cooped up in

In the first 24 hours of
knowing each other than we have.

max can't jump anymore.

He can only run lightly
and not work too hard.

-Well, that's not
totally bad news.

I mean, he seems really
healthy, he's pain free.

I mean, you can
spoil him to death

And he certainly
seems happy.

-Well, he won't
be if he has to

Spend the rest of his
life in that stall.

I just can't do
that to him.

Break my heart to see
him cooped up like that.

Doctor gray says that max
needs to be able to move around

In a big soft
grassy pasture.

I could never afford
a place like that.

-Which is exactly why I wanted
to see you today about max.

-What do you mean?

-Jenny, I just
came from visiting

A friend of mine in malibu.

Last year we saved her horses
from going to slaughter.

Well, she wants to
return the favor,

Especially for max.

-I still don't understand.

-She lives on a beautiful
ranch in malibu with her horses.

Lakes, grassy
pastures, everything.

She said max can stay there
as long as he needs to

To get better.

-Mitch, that's still
gonna cost a fortune.

-How does free sound?

-Free?
-Free.

-I don't know
