That is so not my day.

The most exciting thing I've
done is picked up litter.

Oh, and my date last night?

Stood me up.

-What's mine say?

-Uh, when's your

-Ah, that's very funny.

-Uh, let's see.

"A day to be extra careful.

"What seems harmless
can be very dangerous.

"Pisces figures prominently."

Put the trash in there.
-Jessie: hey.

-Hey.

-People are complaining
about a terrible smell

That's coming out

I can't make that bail,
that's just so high.

-I checked with
the hospital and

There were some broken bones and

Some bad cuts but they
were all able to go home.

-So how's josie?

-She's still there.

She's in a coma.

-Oh my god.

-All right, all right.

What are we looking at?

The truth.

-The attorney says that if...

If josie's condition...

If she dies, hobie could
face involuntary manslaughter

And, if convicted,
he could go to prison.

[Door opens]

-Oh, dad.

-Officer: all right, son,

-Thought cheryl was
supposed to be doing that.

-Oh, she was, but we t x'd,

She's watching my tower
and I'm doing the repairs.

-I give out the tower
assignments here,

You're in tower 12, not cheryl.

-I know, but she really
wanted to watch the water today

So I thought I could just--
-don't.

She tweaked her ankle
playing racquetball,

I don't want her
in a tower today.

-I'll take her tower.

-And I'll take the switchboard.

-What is with all
this whining stuff?

You're on the board,
you're in 12,

Cheryl's on the surf ski.

The way it is.

[Mellow music]

-Hey.

-Hey.

-You're pretty lucky, I wish
I could work a tower today.

-Maybe you could convince
mitch to let us trade.

-Well, you heard him.

Jess, are you ok?

-Yeah, I'm fine.

Why?

-You seem a little antsy.

-I'm ok.

-Did what I say upset you?

-No.

I mean...

It's horrible, what happened.

-You asked, "what
if it happens again?"

And I don't know.

We're lifeguards
and we save lives,

And we do the best
that we can, but,

Bottom line is, it can happen.

-Comes with the
territory, right?

I know.

I'm going to go relieve
cheryl at her tower.

-Jess, do you want to
talk about this after work?

-No, I'm ok.

It's my first royalty check.

It's yours.

-Thanks, but I can't take this.

-Hobie is one of us, mitch.

And we take care of our own.

-It's the deed to my house.

It's just not enough collateral
to bail him out of jail.

Doesn't even come close.

I'll never forget this.

You want to cover for me?

I'm going to go get
my boy out of jail.

[Dramatic music]

Josie, you got to wake up.

Hey, you got a prom
to get ready for.

You know we gotta train
for rookie school.

I'm so sorry, josie.

-Haven't you done

-Yes.

-Then you don't
understand how I feel,

Because your child is awake
standing right next to you.

My child is asleep,

And I don't know if she's
ever going to wake up.

-All right, look, hobie
is not completely innocent,

But josie isn't either.

-What the hell are
you talking about?

-Listen, I was
driving the boat,

But josie pushed
down the throttle.

That's why we were
going so fast.

That's why we flipped.

-I don't believe a
word you're saying.

-Well it's true.

You can ask brad.

He saw.

Tell him.

-Is it true?

Is it?

-We were all
having a good time.

And then things just got
a little out of control.

Hobie kept going
faster and faster.

We kept begging him to
slow down but he wouldn't.

It was like he was
trying to impress josie.

The boat was getting air,

We were bouncing
all over the place,

I mean, I could
barely hang on inside.

I guess he was playing
chicken or something.

He just barely missed
hitting the bell.

Josie was so afraid
she started to cry.

-Stop, please.

-I tried to pull him away.

We wrestled, I almost had him.

Hobie just lost it.
