All right, this is Maldonado's

third escape from prison...
His first here in the States.

for interrogations.

His escape was well-coordinated.

And a hole pre-cut into a fence.

the Zapotec cartel from prison.

His cartel is responsible for

half the coke, heroin, and
fentanyl on the East Coast.

Zapotec gives them a wide berth,

but Maldonado's very much
a disciple of Escobar,

right down to the exotic animals.

Well, I heard the first time
he was arrested,

they found chunks of stash
lining his cheetah's cage,

but the money was meant
for the cheetahs in case

anything happened to them,
like they were his family.

Family is very important to him.

He didn't have one growing up.

His mother abandoned him
when he was seven years old.

He bounced around Catholic orphanages

till the cartel took him in.

So he'd make sure everyone
in the cartel,

right down to the cheetah,
is provided for.

- Money breeds loyalty.
- Yeah.

You know, he had MexFeds on payroll.

That's how he escaped
the first few times.

Where did he go when he escaped then?

The Sierra Madre.
It's where his network is.

All along the miles of the range,

so he makes it there,
we don't see him again.

Well, he's a supermax transfer,

so we took extra precautions.

of the Zapotec cartel,

pioneered the use of long-ranged tunnels

to import dr*gs into the United States.

We've had two tips come in.

Simmich was found next to the body.

It's a risky move,
taking the time to do that on the run.

Maldonado's still gonna
try to get to Mexico.

the supply chains for us?

It starts with the tunnels.


Zapotec moves dr*gs from Mexico
into the States underground.

dr*gs land,

then they're bricked into semis
that then head up the seaboard.

Semis lay over at rest stops

outside of Philadelphia and Manhattan.

The dr*gs are transferred
into smaller cars

then taken to safe houses
where the dr*gs are broken down

and then distributed.

But the nitty gritty
of these supply chains,

I mean, what's happening when and where,

that's not upper management.

So Maldonado won't know how
to get to the supply chains.

And the fake priest
that gave Maldonado communion?

Is unknown quantity.

He could've been pulled in to this job

as a one off by the cartel.
