of antiquities, friend
of detective Hardy.

Filibus in her three roles...

First Part.

The baroness de Troixmonde
(Filibus) reads an article of
great interest to her in the paper.

A reward for tracking down
the mysterious Filibus.

Banker Robertson, whose bank was
recently mysteriously robbed, offers
, for the capture of Filibus.

Detective Hardy asks anyone who
can provide any clue or information,
to report to notary Desmond.

"Aha! The detective has taken
charge of tracking me down."

Baroness Troixmonde.

"I am a bit of an amateur detective...
is it permitted to compete for the
reward offered by banker Robertson?"

Detective Hardy

Baroness Troixmonde has come
to make enquiries about the
mysterious bank robbery too.

The Baroness has conceived
a diabolical plan...

"Mister Hardy, you are a great
comedian... you are Filibus!
and I'll try to prove it to you"

"Did you hear that, notary...
what the Baroness just said!!"

Leonora is waiting for her
brother, the detective.

Hardy's sister?...
She may be of use to me...

The Baroness searches the sky
for her mysterious...

(With a heliograph) a device to
telegraph by sunlight, she signals
the airship...I want to ascend...

...and at an altitude
of meters she
continues hatching her plan...

On the terrace of
detective Hardy's villa.

Leo Sandy, friend of the detective,
is in love with his sister Leonora.

Miss Leonora, why
do you not love me?

You are only a friend
to me, but nothing more.

And Baroness Troixmonde puts her
plans into action, to prove that
Hardy is the mysterious Filibus.

With the cabin of the airship,
Filibus can quietly descend
to earth from every altitude.

Under narcosis

Filibus takes a print
of Hardy's hand.

A glove made in this
image will resemble the
hand of the detective.

End of the first part.

Second part.

A few days later.

You must kidnap the
detective's sister...
then I will save her.

I'm count De la Brive,
allow me to escort you home.

"I've been assaulted...
this gentleman, count De la
Brive, has set me free."

With this fingerprint of your
assailant it will be easy for
me to find out the villains.

The detective and his sister have
invited count De la Brive to stay
as their guest for a few days.

Count, if you're interested
in antiquities, come with me,
I will show you something rare.

At the villa of Leo Sandy.

Behold an Egyptian cat, found
in a very old tomb. Her eyes are
two diamonds of enormous value.

I will turn down the light,
so you can better see the
sparkle of the diamond eyes.

...the cut-out window...

This very night the two diamonds
will be in the hands of Filibus.

"Gentlemen, one of the present company
must have taken the piece of glass...

Allow for us to be searched...
I will lead by example."

"There is an expert conjurer
among us." "Who is it?...

"Do not be insulted... I would
like a fingerprint of each of you."

Detective Hardy
investigates the prints.

A terrible suspicion
enters the detective.

"MY OWN HAND"!?!?

Hardy goes to consult
his friend doctor Derby.

There are cases of nervous disorders,
in which the patient does things
while in a state of sleep-walking,

...that he cannot remember
when he wakes up again.

"Don't you worry, this will
not be the case with you."

"Your words, good
doctor, reassure me."

Hardy wants to set
a trap for Filibus.

Allow me to come
to you immediately.

For your own sake, I'd like to make
a small change to your Egyptian
cat as soon as possible.

Third part.

A tiny photo camera is hidden
in the eye socket, and the real
diamond switched for a fake.

The Count De la Brive
starts to court Leonora too.

At night.

From this terrace you can clearly
spy the entrance and the park...
I'll guard in the drawing room.

Bring this man up, and then
lower the cabin onto the
balcony of the first floor.

"These are not the real diamonds."

"I will fight him
with his own w*apon."

Let us take the detective
to his own home.

Fourth Part.

There's the villa of detective Hardy.

A diamond placed in plain sight...
and now...

"Is this the police? Come immediately.
Leo Sandy has disappeared. The diamonds
have been stolen... How?... Who I am?

Leonora awaits her brother.

"That is a diamond
from the Egyptian cat."

Wake up... Follow me, quickly...!

Leonora, I might go crazy!

"Can you explain to me how this
diamond came into your possession?"

The small photo camera.

Now I am saved! Follow me...

"My portrait!"

Keep courage, my sister!

If you sign me a cheque of one
million... I will release you
to an island... Or else...

Leo Sandy boldly regains his freedom.

...and descends with the parachute.

The evidence against you is crushing:
your photographs, the fingerprints,
there is no doubt: you are Filibus.

Some days later.

FILIBUS!!!! The examining magistrate
tries to shed light on the mysterious
case of Filibus, who appears to be...

...none other than the famous
detective Hardy. He's now in custody
and there's some proof against him.

Leo Sandy hastens to the
magistrate to save his friend.

After this testimony I can allow you to
go free for now, that you can find the
real Filibus, and prove your innocence.

Fifth Part.

How to best lure Filibus?

Have this printed in the papers.

FILIBUS!!!!
Detective Hardy, thought to
be the mysterious Filibus,

has for now been released and
has left for his villa in Abruzzo.

The next day.

Filibus forges a bold plan:
To drug Detective Hardy in his villa,

to loot the international bank,
and to accuse him of the robbery.

In anticipation of the mysterious
enemy, Hardy arms himself
against the sleeping drug.

Filibus, having entered the villa,
cuts the telephone wires.

"What!!! You, Count De la Brive?
Now all becomes clear to me...
You won't escape me."

"Filibus is in my
hands!! Follow me!"

"What?! Escaped?!?"

Some time after.

"Your sympathy for Count De la Brive
must by now have disappeared...
Dare I hope now, you'll be my wife??"

A letter from the sky.

Dear Hardy! I didn't succeed in
defeating you, our confrontation
may repeat itself later. Filibus.

And so the mysterious
Filibus moves on...
to forge new plans...
