[machinery whirring]

Where do you come from?

Where do you belong?

[whirring halts]

But most importantly,

why are you here?

[man ] Okay, bring it down.

[machinery buzzes]

Just a tad more.

Nice and steady.

[equipment beeping]

I think I've got something.

[man ] My God, would you look at that.

Pack it up.

[narrator]
For some, these answers come quite easily.

[music intensifies]

[engine rumbling]

[narrator] For others, they have to search
the ends of the Earth to find them.

if we incubate just the right ones,

then we grow vaccines.

[music builds to climax]

- [people clamoring]

[suspenseful music playing]

[keys jingling]

[Pubba] I still don't understand why the
m*llitary wants to shut this place down.

hell would break loose?

Wait a minute. What exactly did you make?

You'll see.

[woman] Hope you like blueberry wine.

So how long have you lived here, Miss...

[woman] Ever since things went to sh*t.

when the Sick started.

[Judy] That's where we worked.

She was a scientist.

So, that means Pubba was a scientist too.

[Judy sighs]

- [lock clicks]

I'm pretty sure
this is how most horror films start.

[suspenseful music playing]

[whispering] I can honestly say this is
not how I thought this night would go.

a laboratory on a date before?

[sniffs]

Mama smells like peaches.

[hopeful music playing]

More like mothballs.

Hey. Did it seem like
Judy knew more than she was telling us?

A hundred percent.

[Jepperd sighs]

[whispers] I think it's time.

in the photo with her?

[Jepperd] It's probably her dad.

[ominous music playing]

What does that mean?

It's nothing. It's probably nothing.

[Bear] It looks like a project
your mom was working on.

[Gus] Who are all the people with Birdie?

- [heart monitor beeping]

- [exhales]

[Gus cries]

they'll dissect him and experiment on him.

- [suspenseful music playing]

[Gus crying]

[vacuum cleaner whirring]

[Gus crying]

looking for you, so you can keep Gus safe.

- Oh, God.

[crying continues]

[Birdie whispers]

[Gus cooing]

I don't know anything about babies.

about saving the world.

- [gates rattle]
- [alarm blaring]

I'll find you.

[Gus crying]

[Gus] Tell me!

Don't ask questions
you don't want answers to.

It seems like these scientists

may have created you.

[Bear]
Hey. But this doesn't change anything.

It changes everything.

That's why he never talked about her.

Well, maybe he was trying to protect you.

If scientists created me,

I don't have a mom, do I?

Or a dad.

We don't know the whole story yet.

But he did raise you on his own
and kept you safe.

Most people wouldn't have done that.

[Gus cooing]

[panting]

[panting continues]

[stampede approaching]

[reporter on radio]

[reporter ] State emergency
operation center sent this message.


[official on radio] The H G strain

is the most destructive virus
in our lifetime.


[reporter ] They're being called hybrids.

[reporter ] No one is safe as the first
hybrid roundups begin, and another dark...


- [Gus cooing]
- Hey.

Hey, it's okay.

It's all right, buddy.

Yeah. Yeah.

[hopeful music playing]

Yeah, you're okay.

- Hey, hey, hey. You're okay.
- [Gus cries]

I'm gonna protect you now. Yeah.

[Gus crying]

[trunk slams]

[equipment rattling]

[narrator] And when the answers
you've been searching for


are finally revealed,

so is your purpose.

[Pubba]
All right, you might like this one.

Once upon a bye, there was
a mischievous boy named Tom Sawyer,

who was always getting into trouble,
getting off on danger.

- [panting]
