Once upon a time,

there were three little girls who
went to the police academy...

Two in Los Angeles,

the other in San Francisco...

And they were each assigned
very hazardous duties.

But I took them away from all
that, and now they work for me.

I run the show, and that's this club.

It's got charisma, class,
and that's what pulls them in.

That's just what I told Harry when he
said he wanted his name up out in front.

[Charlie On Speakerphone] The
dead man's name was James Hannah.

That makes three
victims in four months.

Now, Angels, you can appreciate why the
Committee for Concerned Elder Citizens...

needs our immediate help.

And there isn't anything to
go on? There's not a clue,

an eyewitness, even a
secondhand description?

[Charlie] No, just
what you've got there.

The M.O. is a k*ller who
strangles disadvantaged men...

who ride the bus
from the beach at night.

Now, this psycho could be
riding the bus or following it.

This is not exactly an
assignment I'm looking forward to.

Neither is the next victim, which
leads me to where you'll begin.

With the next victim?
No, with the last three.

The first one's name was
Barkowitz... Sam Barkowitz.

Look, honey, I already told what I
know, like a dozen times, to the police.

I tell ya, I'm really not too wild
about goin' through it again,

since I wasn't too crazy
about him when he was alive.

I take it you and your
father didn't get along then?

[Chuckles] Stepfather. I see.

Yeah. Ah, come on. He walked
out on me and my mother years ago.

You got a customer.
Oh, yeah. That's... salami?

That's 80 cents.

I'm sorry. You were sayin'...

- When did you see him last?
- Oh, it was the night
he was k*lled.

Uh, it's four months
ago, where I was workin'.

[Scoffs] He was
always doin' that.

- Doin' what?
- Well, followin' me. He followed from job to job.

He was moochin' for money till his
social security check came in, and then...

Then he'd go, and he'd gamble it away in any
penny-ante card game he could find around the beach.

Oh. Salami?

All right. Ninety cents.

Did you give him the money he
asked for the night he was k*lled?

Yeah, sure. But
just to get rid of him.

- Can you remember
what time that was?
- [Sighs] About 11:30?

11:30. Just about the time he got on the
bus. Where were you working that night?

- Freddie's. Uh, it's a disco.
- I see. Well, thank you very much.

Hey, no matter what
anybody else thinks,

he owed enough people enough
money to guarantee gettin' himself k*lled.

[No Audible Dialogue]

Salami? That's a dollar.

You know Salami's gone up from 80 cents
to a dollar since I've been standin' here.

Yeah? [Chuckles] Seems
there's a run on salami.

Hey, it's whatever the
market'll bear, right?

- Glad I'm not hungry.
- Yeah, well? [Laughs]

So it seems we have a new
common denominator, Angels.

Both victims had been at
Freddie's before they were m*rder*d.

The last one had a run-in
with the owner, Fred Heston.

So until we hear from...

Hi. Sorry. I've been runnin' all over the
beach. Did you come up with anything?

Well, our second victim, Mike
Hooton... He didn't have any relatives.

But he had lots of friends at the beach. They
said he pretty much stuck around down there.

Now, the bus driver said that he
picked him up at the same place...

at approximately the
same time every night.

Hmm. Well, that sh**t holes through
your theory about the disco, doesn't it?

[Charlie On Speakerphone] Kris,
where exactly was Mr. Hooton picked up?

About Pico and Ocean, I think. Hmm.
That's just one block from Freddie's.

Well, then that's three for three.
All the victims were near Freddie's.

Which makes Freddie's
the target for now.

Angels, Bosley will work out
covers for you before you check in.

- Yeah?

That little discussion we had about my

Well, I'm gonna do a
story on the local scene,

and I would very much
like to include Freddie's.

Why not? Doing a disco story
and not mentioning Freddie's...

is like talking about the home-run
record and not mentioning Babe Ruth.

I think Hank Aaron holds
that record, doesn't he?

- Oh, uh, it's just
a figure of speech.

men who were k*lled by the Bus Strangler.

- What?
- Well, you see, they were all

just standing out here out here listening.

- I need to talk to you

If I could come in for a minute
and explain. I want to do you a favor.

See, I'm really terrific at what
I do, which is disco dancing...

As a matter of fact,
I used to teach it...

They get a thing like that, the next
thing you know, you're on the front page.

- Is that why you're here?

But since I am here, I did have a good
idea. Why don't you tell me your story?

I'll k*ll the bad press before it
gets a chance to hit the stands.

Listen, James Hannah
was nothin' but a beach bum.

He was hangin' around this
club bothering the customers.

You know how the papers are. They
take a thing like that and twist it around.

Oh, it was nothing.

Anyway, I was drivin' Harry Owens
home when Hannah was k*lled.

[Mouths Words, Chuckles]

belong to some international singles club.

but I want 'em here where I can keep my eye
on 'em, till I am sure what they're up to.

Look, I have a hysterical

Arrested twice for as*ault
and battery, no convictions.

I wonder if his alibi about being with Harry
Owens the night of the k*lling is a lie.

[Charlie] If it is, it would
make Owens a coconspirator.

Which reminds me. He doesn't have
a police record, and he does own a car.

No sign of ever using a bus.

He's beginning to sound like Snow White,
except for his weakness for fringe benefits.

Mm-hmm. That's what this second
record is for. Oh, we've got company.

Oh, these are my friends,
Kelly Garrett, John Bosley.

- Yeah. I've seen you around.
- Hi.

Well, I hear you're
working for Fred too.

We're gonna be partners.

If Marian finds out, it'll blow the cover
of who was where and when for both of us...

future, and I lose everything.

That's why he started chasing
me all around his apartment.

are working for my wife.

can have the divorce, everything.

it. I'm fed up with her boozing.

she's always been accusing me of.

but what we're doing
