After l pick up Acosta and Levecque
we got to the drop.

-How you gonna give us the location?
-No way l'll be able to do that.

Lieutenant l ought
to be making the drop.

Acosta's Columbian. He doesn't
trust Anglos. lt has to be me.

Right on the button, Melendez.
Very impressive.

l'm not here to impress you,
but to take care of my interests.

And my only concern is to make sure
Levecque's goods are delivered.

And you are not in this meeting
to sidestep me with the old man.

l'm in this meeting for my cocaine.
l'm not worried about your career.

Levecque is a first class guy.
You gonna see that tonight.

-lt's all taken care of.
-Good.

-You impressed me. Good for you.
-Let's go, Pepe.

Don't talk to me about
time again.

Please, give me a break.

Six minutes never k*lled anybody.

l can k*ll 20 men in 6 minutes.

Look, there it is. This merchandise
will be worth waiting for.

How'd you like to be Acosta and tell
Levecque he lost everything.

The old man may not give
him a second chance.

-Nothing on the chopper.
-Who were those guys? Ghosts?

-They were pros.
-Dead Commando's prints paid off.

John Lockdam, 35 year old vet.
Long range renaissance.

A Lurp?
You're lucky you got out at all.

lt was a Miccosukee lndian.

Call Washington, see if there's any
other Lurps living in south Florida.

Go down and see if you can catch
15 minutes with Sgt. Pine over at Metro.

-He's a Seminole.
-See if he can help us out on this.

Cool.

Commander Pursley's coming.

-Lieutenant, you have a moment?
-Yeah.

lf it wasn't a problem,
l wouldn't have come down here.

The department has always backed
your involvement, but you out there...

l appreciate your concern.
l really do.

-So who's running the OCB?
-Crockett's in charge.

Don't get yourself k*lled.
l'd hate to replace you.

We scored big against
the white man today boys.

We found this emblem on a dead
commando. Does this mean anything?

Miccosukee. You can buy imitations
of it at the Big Cypress Reservation.

-Any involvement in drug running?
-No. Have you in the black community?

-Come on Sarge.
-No kidding. Couldn't happen there.

-Why not?
-People adhere to the old values.

They stay to themselves in the swamps
until Chief Jumper took over.

He sort of allowed the white man in.
Buy souvenirs,...

play bingo and watch alligator
wrestling. He's the man to see.

l really appreciate your time,
Chief Jumper.

l wanted to talk to someone
on the reservation about Miccosukee life.

Maybe gain some insights
into modern day practices.

-Side shows aren't in depth enough?
-Not for my purposes.

-Reporter?
-No.

l'm researching my doctoral thesis.
Oppression in the land of the free.

We get one about ever 3, 4 years
who wants to carry that same torch.

Unfortunately none ever have
the understanding to do it right.

-That's interesting.
-Best way to learn about a people...

is to immerse yourself
in our way of life.

-Any suggestions?
-Becky Wells.

She can best explain the difference
between yours and ours.

She's lived in both long enough
to gain some insight. She works for us.

Thanks.

l am absolutely appalled
at the laxity of my security.

Let's be grateful that you survived
so we can continue doing business.

My survival is gonna cost you.
You can understand that l'm sure.

-Sir, about this lndian thing.
-Yes, Anthony.

lt's gotten out of control.
l think that they have to be...

-disciplined, like children.
-Like children, Anthony?

They have totally disrupted any
schedule l've tried to establish.

We're at least two months behind.

Mr. Melendez, how does
that effect our distribution?

The delays are costing you 20º/º
of your established lines.

lf they continue,...

l'm gonna lose a lot of money.

l understand.

l have a major drop
happening tomorrow afternoon.

Do you think l can pull this thing
off with whatever means necessary.

v*olence is a precious commodity,
and you have yet to learn that.

-Yes sir, but this time...
-Enough.

Mr. Melendez, can we depend upon
your services for this next drop?

Yes, if you can guarantee me
security arrangements.

You have my word Mr. Melendez.

Anthony, you will have
no further interruption.

lf there is,
l'll take it personally.

Well, that's about all.

-Thank you.
-My pleasure Mr. Melendez.

-We got another drop? You anywhere?
-No one's hiding anything.

Acosta said something
about the lndians.

lt's possible Levecque has made
arrangements with the Miccosukee?

l don't know. Chief Jumper.
is pretty straight arrow.

Out for the good of his people,
just got a clinic built.

Somebody had to tell those commandos
about the deal at the bowl.

-What about the Chief?.
-l can't believe he's a player.

Sell the coke and give the money
to the tribe. lt's one way to do it.

Stay close to the phone. Get ready
to move and watch your back.

Right, Lieutenant.

That's how was with the Miccosukee.
We were dependant on the government.

Now more than half our revenue
comes from our own ventures.

The bingo halls, tax free cigarettes.
We also built our own baseball field.

All without help from Washington.
Are there any questions?

Excuse me, may l say something?

You should be very happy with
what Washington give you.

Many people would give anything
to come over here, you knoW?.

Since we were here and all
South Florida was our land,...

we don't fell Washington
gave us anything.

Thank you for visiting Big Cypress.
You've been a wonderful group.

Half breed, son of a viche...

-Excuse me, Becky Wells?
-Mr. Cooper?

-Yes.
-Chief said to expect an academic.

You can't tell a book by the cover.
Would you mind if l talk to you?

Many of our men saw the m*llitary
as an opportunity.

Many of them became disillusioned
so they came back and went native.

Why was that?

Many of them still live
the traditional way.

The young people emulate them.
lt's a very positive thing.

And how about you?

l work on trying to keep
the white man aware of our world.

-So what do you think?
-lt's beautiful.

lt's my home.

Come with me.
There's more. Lots more.

l'd like to welcome all of you
to the Miccosukee lndian village.

First step Tommy will be doing
is opening the alligator's mouth.

Alligators have 80 teeth.
40 on the top, 40 on the bottom.

He does not have a tongue,
but they do have a palate.

-So what do you call this?
-Survival.

Tommy will next be performing
what is called bulldogging.

He'll be putting the alligator's
chin under his own chin.

-Who's that guy over there?
-That's the Chief's son.

He'd be a good interview,
if he'll talk to you.

He's 7 and a half feet long
and ways 275 pounds.

These animals live to be
75 to 100 years old...

and are raised domestically
here in Florida.

The next stunt Tommy is going to do
is to put the animal to sleep...

by gently rubbing its stomach.

The blood rushes to his brain.
As the brain is small, it sleeps.

Tommy will make the gator mating
call, which will wake it up.

As you can see, the alligator
is quite alert and very active.

Ladies and gentlemen,
that's our show for today.

l'd like to thank you for coming
to the Miccosukee lndian Village.

l hoped you enjoyed the show.
Thank you again.

Amazing.

-How was your trip into the city?
-Lovely. Splendid

There's something l want to talk
to you about. Some of your people...

do not have a sense of business
acumen. That's ok. l understand.

But some of your people who do...

do not know the meaning
of our arrangement and frankly...

-that troubles me.
-l don't understand.

Business warranties
are sacred to me.

l've been generous to your people:
gymnasiums, libraries...

medical facilities,
food, cash...

The rich can well afford
to be generous Mr. Levecque.

There's no way back, Chief.
l invested in your authority.

l expect you to maintain
control over your braves.

Otherwise l can not be held for
the peccadilloes of my associates.

-l'm tired waiting for snow.
-We may have a cold front in.

The DOD's list of ex lurps
in Dade county.

-They've all got the same address.
-The reservation.

All lethal commando trained
courtesy of uncle.

Two of 'em are qualified on Hueys.
They look good for the bowl.

-Recognize any of the names?
-Yeah, Joe Dan Jumper.

He's the Chief's son.
He runs a back to nature boot camp.

-l don't see him as a snowman.
-What do you see him as?

l don't know.

Trudy, l want you to call
the Marine Commandant's office.

Get a service jacket on these guys,
psyche profiles, the works.

That's gonna take same time.
When's the next load due?

Soon. Anthony's got a job coming.
lt's gonna be in the water.

Keep an eye on your buddy Joe Dan.
He may make a move on the load.

Keep in touch with me.
You can get me on the cellular.

You sold us out for the white
man's drug money. Why?

-For the good of the tribe.
-Not the whole tribe.

-The majority supported.
-l wouldn't be too sure about that.

lf l'd have talked to my dad as you,
he'd have skinned me alive.

ln the old days they
had respect for the Chiefs.

Would your father have mislead
the tribe to make this devil's bargain?

He'd have made it in his day,
to save our people.

Well your father earned respect.
More than l can say for you.

That was fantastic.

-You're not the first you knoW?.
-What do you mean?

You're not the first academic
to use us to get research money.

You think l came down here
to score a Guggenheim?

-Why are you here?
-That's what l'd like to know.

For 400 years the white man
has exploited us for our land.

lt's ironic that a black man
would exploit us for a book.

Be cool man. You carry a boulder
on your shoulder. Loosen up.

Loosen up. Washington cuts subsidies
and Tallahassee cuts water rights.

You want to know what's loose?
The screw in my father's head.

-For letting an outsider get close.
-You're the only people of color...

who have to crawl on their knees
in this country?

You give me a trail of tears
and l'll give you Little Rock.

For every lndian m*ssacre,
l'll give you a lynching.

You had Custer, we've got the Klan.
What's the difference?

-What are you saying?
-You don't have a monopoly...

on suffering.

l'm black, you're red.
To the white man we're both colored.

Simple as that.

We're both outsiders
in the white man's country.

-What do you really want?
-Like l told Becky,...

l want to see what
the Miccosukees are about.

Where l live, you wouldn't last
an hour without your Cadillac.

Try me?

Today. lt's happening today.

Acosta you told me you'd give me
24 hours notice.

That was then. This is now.

-Where?
-Everglades.

By Big Cypress.
30 Ks of the best. Top shelf.

-Why not? What's the matter?
-That's Miccosukee country.

You're the tough guy.
You scared of the swamps noW?.

l'm not stupid. They took you once.
Now you're on their turf.

You don't got a chance
against the lndians.

lf lndian Joe tries to pull
that stunt again,...

we got enough firepower to blow
him into the happy hunting ground.

l understand. l want to pass.

Melendez,...

if you stay, l'll make it
5 points per kilo.

Think about it.
Five points partner.

ln or out.

-l'm in.
-Perfect.

We pick you up on the docks
near the McArthur.

At 4 o'clock.
Don't be late.

Pepe!

Let's go.

-No, not since this morning.
-He has to be warned.

lt's set in the glades. Joe Dan
interferes, he'll m*ssacre them.

Lieutenant, let me go out there.
l can get word to Tubbs.

No, l need you at the base.
That's an order.

-Where are we going?
-Yachting.

This is how we deal with
the advantages of civilization.

-You gonna make alligators jumpy.
-Better the gators than kids.

He's trying to create
tribal utopia,...

the old ways, love for the land.

Mining the swamps with claymores?
Sounds like Haiphong Harbor revisited.

-Why?
-He didn't cop to laying mines.

lt was more like ''watch this ''.
Plus, he dumped the load.

He dumps 30 kilos into the swamps?

-That's new meaning to ''just say no''.
-Why?

-That's what we do.
-But we get paid for it.

The Chief thinks taking
the drug money helps the tribe.

Joe Dan he thinks that it
poisons their minds.

-Where are the DOD files?
-Trudy pulling the fax right now.

Trudy!

Alright. Doing the best l can.
Just got it.

Silver star,
2 bronze medals.

Guy's a damn hero.

Wait a minute.

Says here he was w*r
wounded in Grenada.

He went to a VA hospital in Hawaii
and later was discharged section 8.

Trudy, check with the VA hospital.
See where he's been since then.

Tubbs. Check out his agenda.

The truth is before
we built the clinic...

the elder and sick suffered greatly
for lack of medical attention.

Death stared at us daily.

Our pains and agony were constant.

Alcoholism and child abuse
was rampant.

Our infant mortality rate
was 15, 20º/º higher...

-than the American national average.
-Wake up! What's the point of...?

John, it's ok.

We wish the elders no disrespect.

And we applaud the builders
of the health clinic.

But pandering to drug pushers
will only result in greater suffering.

And when payment is due
on the travel construction loan?

-We'll do as we've always done...
-Stop living a fool's dream.

-You wanna live off roots and berries.
-Better than off the white's vices.

We already peddle duty free cancer
sticks and legalized gambling.

lf the white man wants to k*ll
himself with dr*gs, let him.

-We only lease him the land.
-That's only half the truth.

Tell 'em.

-We've gone through all of this.
-First they rent,...

and then they own us.
They treated you like a sl*ve.

ls that the kind of world that
we want to bring our infants into?

Let's put it in a vote.

The council members
have already voted, and that's it.

Then we'll deal with
the pushers on our own terms.

You jeopardize the life
of every tribal member?

You did that Chief.

-Wait man. Where you going?
-To protect my people.

-You're gonna start a bloodbath.
-l'm trying to prevent one.

-By taking the law...
-The law into my own hands. Yes.

-You sound like my father, Cooper.
-Maybe he's right about some things.

What about Little Rock and Selma?
You broke the law for a higher good.

Civil disobedience doesn't
include blowing people up.

Well, the time's
they are a changin'.

-But...
-lnternal management is...

a rather difficult fence to walk.

We have a lot of money and
a lot of time invested yet...

-you insist on handing it to Acosta.
-Bad judgment on my part.

l don't know why l decided
to give him a second chance.

Where l come from, the term
second chance doesn't exist.

There's your reputation
for efficiency. Very good.

-That's why we do business together.
-l don't see business. l see lndians.

-l guarantee you it'll be different.
-l won't do it with Acosta.

Don't let him concern you.
Excuse me.

Señor Acosta.

Levecque cutting his expenses.
The chief may be next.

And Joe Dan's on the w*r path.
What's our move?

Switek on his way from the DA's.
To see if we can move on Levecque.

l'll send Becky to the Chief's
and have 'em meet at Joe's camp.

-Maybe l can get them to talk.
-Can you trust her?

-Don't have much trust, but yeah.
-Keep me informed.

Lieutenant. lt's not enough.

The DA has no proof Levecque
stuffed Acosta in the t*nk.

Everybody's a free agent.
They get to have their little w*r.

Let's go.

Chief Jumper!

-Where's Joe Dan?
-Becky, what happened?

-Where is he.
-Some private place. A big secret.

-That's great.
-What's going on?

They've taken his father. What's
the matter with you? He's your chief.

-Maybe you should stay here.
-He's gone.

This is the price we pay
for non-v*olence.

Unless you bite the white man
in the throat, he'll k*ll you first.

Now they have my father.

Levecque and his men
tore up to the reservation.

-When's the last time we heard Tubbs?
-Six hours now.

This just came from the VA. Joe Dan
was wounded but it wasn't physical.

Diagnosis: acute schizophrenia.
w*r induced trauma.

What's that mean?

He's suffering from PTS.

He still gets his supplementary
income checks for disability.

Let me see that.

l thought Joe Dan
lived on the reservation.

Rico says he does, he has
a place there deep in the glades.

Yeah?

Then why are they sending his SSl
checks to Bayshore Towers in Boca?

No, we need you here. Let me know
when you get a fix on that address.

Damn! l hate this crap!

-Aren't those bows a little hi-tech?
-You got a problem with that?

No, l just...

l thought you were the old values
freak and maybe a bow'd be better.

Yeah, that'd be picturesque
as all hell wouldn't it?

But this ain't a w*r for tourists.
Don't think Levecque'll take photos.

l think it's a little overkill.

When you go up against the white man
you got to match his firepower.

You know, l've been wondering.

ls it the cocaine that bothers you
or that it's the white man's cocaine?

Either way it's our mission
to stop it, this time we stop it good.

l thought the mission was
to get your father back.

-Castillo.
-You know the address for Joe Dan?

-What about it?
-lt's the most expensive in Boca.

Studios go for half a mil.
Joe Dan's got the penthouse.

-Meet you there?
-No. Stay there. l'll raise Tubbs.

-Hello?
-Who's this?

-Becky Wells. Who's this?
-Lt. Castillo. Miami Vice.

-You work on the reservation?
-Yes, how did you know that?

Cooper told me about you.
He said you could be trusted.

-What's wrong?
-He's a police officer.

-He hasn't been able to be contacted.
-You know Levecque?

-Yes.
-He and Joe Dan went there.

-ls there anything l can do?
-You've done enough. Thank you.

l'll go around back, see if l can find
the chief before the fireworks.

-That ok with you?
-Yeah, sure.

Hey Cooper. Good luck.

What a game.

Ok.

-You eliminated the competition.
-What competition?

The coke that you dumped
in the swamp, it wasn't coke.

And this wasn't a crusade.
lt was a power struggle.

Not bad, Cooper.
Or is it Cooper?

lt isn't. lt doesn't matter.
What does is what's happening here.

Yeah. What's happening?

You're a lucky man brother Cooper.
l'm only k*lling white men today.

-Where's Joe Dan?
-He's gone.

He's crazy.

What you intend to do when you get
where ever you're going?

Go ahead, run, leave.
Leave your mess behind.

Destroy your people.
What does it matter noW?.

Who the hell are you?
You're not my son.

-How far you expect to get?
-As far as money can buy.

What difference will it make?
Your mind will always be over there.

You're always lecturing,
oh Great Wise Chief.

l'd rather be rich than wise.

So that's what Levecque
was talking about.

That's the stuff cocaine.

You never saw any, did you?
Doing business for chump change.

Excuse me,
for the good of the tribe.

l've been a damn fool.

You can say that again sucker.

Maybe. But l still go back home.

Be forgiven.

But you, Joseph,
you're lost son. Lost!

l'm lost?

Who's gonna find you here, old man?

l'm sick of this yapping.
l've taken this crap for years.

The old ways are best? We should've
sent you to pasture long time ago.

Hello Joe.

Thanks for leaving the door open.

Not unless you want
to visit your ancestors.

l'm not packing.
May as well be a hero.

-There's a lot of them in the joint.
-That's not my gig brother.

l've done my time on that
bingo farm in the Everglades.

You may know what l am, but
l'm a role model to the young braves.

-And you're not gonna tell.
-Tell them what?

That the mystic warrior
was a freaked out side shoW?.

That they were taken in?

Nobody held a g*n to their heads.

Dammit boy. A young brave
was k*lled out there for you.

Doesn't that bother you?

l guess l should return the favor.

-Come on man.
-You know what they say brother.

Better to die a hero
than live on your knees.

-¡No!
-Joseph no!
