[Man Narrating]

Previously on Miami Vice.

Judge Villanueva's got the warrants.

Costa and Edwards will pick up Albierro and we'll bag Hackman.

- Nobody knows where Barkley is.

- Well, let's not let Hackman get itchy feet.

Hey, Sonny.

Yeah? - The good guys won for once.

- [Chuckles]

Yeah, for once.

[Boy]

They real bad guys, Daddy? Ohh! Real bad guys.

We still gonna be able to have dinner with Sonny and Caroline tomorrow? No problem.

We'll be finished with the paperwork by 5:00.

Sonny told me they've already got a sitter.

[Doorbell Rings]

You expecting someone? [Woman Screams]

[TV: Anchorwoman]

We now go to Rayford Prison and to the cell of convicted m*rder*r Frank Hackman, who is scheduled to be ex*cuted this Friday.

Even though I didn't commit the crime I've been convicted of, I want my death to count for something.

A parishioner has confessed to being in Daytona with Frank Hackman the night the detective was m*rder*d.

I'm afraid an innocent man may be ex*cuted on Friday.

I didn't k*ll Frankel.

Frank Hackman blew away my partner in front ofhis wife and kids, and he deserves to get whatever's coming to him.

I'm telling you this so, now or later, you ought not to feel any guilt.

That's kind of ironic, don't you think? I go out for one I didn't do.

The man's about to watch his last sunset, Gus.

Did he k*ll him? He was with me in Daytona.

Hackman is a maggot.

He's been one step ahead of the chair his entire life.

Look, I was the cop that arrested him.

You didn't put me here.

I want you to know there'll come a time when you'll ask for forgiveness and make your peace with God.

I want you to remember that I don't hold you accountable.

- What's it gonna take to reopen? - It's not gonna happen.

What's it gonna take? Two corroborating witnesses.

[Gasps]

[Gasps]

What do you want to know? That's better.

Who k*lled Frankel? A button man from Buffalo De Santis.

Everybody knew that Frankel was a cop.

A lot of people wanted him hit.

Hackman was with you in Daytona? Yeah.

Me and Albierro.

Governor? Miami Vice.

We have depositions that will exonerate Frank Hackman.

Thanks, Crockett.

- Just doing my job.

- Like I knew you would.

[Horn Honks]

You k*lled Frankel.

Yeah.

I won't be needing this anymore.

Maybe you can use it.

[Man Singing]

[Ends]

Uh So, tell me, which one do you like better? Hmm? The blue.

You mean the lavender.

It's lavender.

Yeah, the lavender.

I don't know.

Lavender is sort of, um, moody.

Don't you think? Louis? Which one do you like? I like the lavender.

The beige is too bland.

- [Woman]

Louis.

- [Hammers Cock]

[Gasps]

Louis.

Louis, do something.

Yeah, Louis, do something.

[Chuckling]

[Woman]

What do you want? It ain't fashion advice.

[Woman Gasping, Whimpering]

[Woman]

No! Oh, my God! What is he doing? - Come on, Blatt.

- [Woman]

Help! Help! [Shotgun Blasts]

[Weeping]

- [g*nshots]

- [Weeping Continues]

Welcome to the party.

[Screams]

[Whimpers]

[g*nsh*t]

[Crockett]

I'll be there at, um Sonny? when your plane gets in.

When I get home, we gotta talk.

You okay, babe? You worry about everything.

I love you.

I love you too.

You okay, partner? Yeah.

Yeah.

Who is this guy? Bob Richardson from Homicide.

What the hell does he want? [Crockett]

Shotgun slugs.

[Coroner]

Just like the uncle.

Slugs don't give you the spread you get with bird or buckshot.

Yeah, and it's easier to clean up afterwards.

Drug related? All we got's a home invasion right now.

There were trace dr*gs found, but nothing to indicate trafficking.

What is she, 16? Next week.

Twelve years I'm on this job.

Kids are always the hardest.

The uncle was hit with a shotgun slug, plus a small caliber at close range to finish him off.

Looks like he was double-tapped with the g*n barrel.

He was hit once.

Notice the parallel markings.

Probably a 12-gauge side-by-side.

Now, the aunt was hit with a.

380 caliber something in that range.

Different sh**t? My guess would be yes.

Twelve-gauge? Twelve-gauge.

Hey, Good Morning, Miami said Caitlin's concerts are all sold out.

Yeah.

It's great, isn't it? Yeah.

Scalpers gettin' Yeah.

Half the time she's on the road.

And when she is in town I don't get to see her 'cause I'm workin'.

Hey, amigo, what can you do about it? Beats the hell out of me.

I guess look forward to retirement.

[Laughing]

[Man]

Hey, we made enough in the last couple of months tojust lay off for a while.

We don't do nothin' for three, four weeks.

Then we go back to the same drill knocking over houses.

It's safe.

It's easy.

But Hackman Hackman's got this wild hair.

He says knocking over houses is small-time.

Says that I'm small-time.

He wants to do this big job.

How long's this been on ice, Julia? Two minutes? I don't ask for much, do I? But I like cold beer, not lukewarm beer.

Did I ask for a lukewarm beer, Julia? Cold beer! Is that too much to ask? [Gasping, Screaming]

I'm talking to you! Oh, God, Johnny, please! Oh! Please don't! [Gasps]

[Castillo]

Inventory of what's missing, according to the maid.

Doesn't smell like an execution.

What about the dr*gs? [Castillo]

No evidence to link the traces with the m*rder.

Maybe they just took the guy's stash.

Six-figure gem collection.

Looks like the K*llers are part of an invasion crew.

That's about all we know.

They picked that house at random? Maybe one of the crew panicked.

Or maybe he just likes to wrap up his packages real neat.

No witnesses.

And if he gets caught, he cops a plea for B & E, which is exactly what he'd get if there were witnesses.

The case will be handled by Homicide.

That'll be all.

Lieutenant.

Phone lines cut, not at the house but at the pole.

Multiple entry.

The broken windows.

Car distributor cap removed.

This was a very thorough job.

And what they took it's only the best stuff.

This guy knows the difference between Baccarat and Lalique.

What's your point? [Exhales]

One of the K*llers used a 12-gauge slugs and then finished off the victim with a.

380.

In 20 years on the job, I've only seen that combination once.

It's gotta be Hackman.

Hackman wasn't into B & E.

He would be for six-figure merch.

Do you have anything more than just a hunch? No.

Let me know if you come up with anything.

We'll work on it.

This is not a Vice investigation.

Marty, we can liaison with Homicide.

I know Hackman.

I know the way he thinks.

I know the way he operates.

There's no place for personal vendettas in this department.

I got Hackman back on the street.

If he did k*ll that kid, then I put the g*n in his hand.

Give me a week.

You have a full caseload.

Three days.

I know it was Hackman.

Two days.

[Piano: Jazz]

We can catch a 1:15 Pan Atlantic flight.

Hoagy Carmichael.

And be in the Caribbean in a couple of hours.

"Lazy Bones.

" I wanna get out! That kid that was k*lled Duet with Pee Wee Hunt.

[Continues]

This isn't just B & E, Frank.

Did you see the paper? It's all over the radio.

[Chuckles]

[Needle Scratches Across Record]

[Resumes]

The cops aren't giving up on this one.

Crockett.

Crockett's Vice.

If he finds out you're involved This was a robbery.

He don't even work on this kind of case.

I want to leave.

[Continues]

After this job.

We leave when I get good and ready.

[Piano Continues, Man Singing]

Invasion, uh, crews? Yeah.

You know anything about any new invasion crews? Uh, invasion crews.

They, um They're illegal, aren't they? Some guys working around Gratigny Park.

And accepting certain stolen articles, even the most unimportant ones, can, uh Porca miseria.

Now that you mention it, there is this guy named Blatt.

B-L-A-T-T.

Blatt.

Comes in here with certain "invaluables" every once in a while.

You know, now that I think about it, I think he's one of these, uh, members of, uh, invasion crews that, uh You know, what you Well, he's not here right now, but, uh Well, listen, Izz, you're gonna be sure to let us know when he comes in, aren't ya? You bet I'm gonna let you know.

You're a good man, Izz.

Well, you're darn tootin'.

[Whirring]

[Phone Rings]

Crockett.

Sonny? I just finished rehearsal.

I wanted to hear your voice.

Well, I'm still here.

Are you alone? No one's sitting on my desk.

Good.

I wanna whisper something to you.

All right.

Izzy just called.

Hold on a second, honey.

Yeah.

Blatt, one of the guys from the invasion crew, just left the jewelry store.

- Sonny? - Listen, something's come up, sweetie.

L I miss you.

Yeah, I miss you too.

He's on his way to his girlfriend's house.

Don't hang up! Um, are you okay? I'm okay.

This is the address.

Listen, I gotta go catch the bad guys, honey.

I'll call you later.

All right? Three, four, and turn.

Turn past me.

This is working.

[Tubbs]

The girlfriend, Julia, she's a clerk at Pop's Security System.

Someone arranges for a security system, they gotta have something worth protecting.

Right? She slips the information to Blatt Passes it off to the rest of the invasion crew And to Hackman.

If it is Hackman.

How do you feel? About finding him? Yeah.

Frankel.

Couple of nights before Hackman k*lled him, we stopped in to this bar on the way home and Frankel saw a guy in there he'd been trying to put away a couple times on r*pe charges.

Guy had beaten it both times.

Frankel said he wanted to take him out in the alley and b*at the living hell out of him.

He said if he felt that way, maybe he had a year left in him as a good cop.

I promised myself I'd quit before I got to that point.

I hope it's not happening.

Doesn't look likeJulia's part of the crew's profit-sharing plan.

You Julia Adams? Yeah.

We're looking forJohnny Blatt.

If you're not cops, I hope you're hit men.

Did he do that to you? I think he might have broken my rib.

Where is he? Yeah, come on in.

[Tubbs]

That's him.

He fits Blatt's description.

There's heat out there.

Day, Bobby, check it out.

Freeze! Miami Vice! [Gasps, Groans]

[Woman On P.

A.

]

Dr.

McCullen, Surgery, please.

Dr.

McCullen.

Sonny.

It wasn't your fault.

It was an accident.

[Exhales]

I wanted him, Rico.

Like I've never wanted anything before.

[Rings]

Sonny? Caitlin? Oh, Sonny, I can't wait to see you.

Uh, listen, l I'm, uh I don't think I'm gonna be able to meet you tomorrow.

That's okay.

I can get myself to the theater.

I'm not gonna be able to come to the show either.

Oh.

I was hoping we could talk before the show.

Can it wait? It can wait.

Sonny? Are you all right? Yeah.

I sh*t a woman.

Oh, my God.

Um, I'll try to get by the show sometime tomorrow.

I promise.

I love you.

[Woman Singing]

[Fades]

Sonny.

What? It's time to go.

She didn't make it.

When? Ten minutes ago.

[Exhales]

I want a transfer.

To where? Out of Vice.

You don't wanna think about it? I already have.

Until your transfer comes through, you're still with the unit.

You're still on the case.

Just for your information, the b*llet that k*lled Hackman's wife came out of Hackman's g*n.

Thought you might want to know that.

[Whimpers]

If somebody comes, you never heard of me.

Somebody calls, you never heard of me.

I didn't know they were cops! [Groans]

What? What? You thought they were encyclopedia salesmen, right? You thought maybe me and Day and Hackman, we wanted to buy a set.

Right? Oh, God! God, not again! Leave No! Mm-hmm.

That's him.

That's the guy.

Muy pa'la paga.

Eh? He's bad.

He's also mean.

Extremely mean.

Comes in here, he's wound a little too tight, he tells people that they're too tall.

Too tall, huh? Comes in here, tries to break things up.

He thinks he's a fighter.

He likes to fight.

Thinks he's Mike Tyson.

Has he said anything about something big? You mean about the ice? Yeah.

Yeah.

He's standing here.

Right here.

As close as you are right now is as close as I was to him, and he talks bing, bing, bing, bing, bing like I'm not even there, like I'm not even supposed to know what he's talkin' about, like I'm invisible or something.

He's not only stupid, he's extremely ignorant.

He belongs in a tree.

So, what'd he say? About when it's going down? Tonight.

What? He didn't say.

Where? He didn't say.

He's not that dumb.

I was kept out of the loop on this stuff.

We're wasting our time here.

Well, no, I can put in a phone call I'd rather talk to a wall.

We could get more information.

I'll put in a phone ca I didn't get all the information from him because I wasn't I didn't hear everything that he says.

But I know somebody who does.

[Chattering]

[Knocking]

Come in.

Where would you like these, ma'am? Sonny! [Chuckles]

Hi, baby! Mmm! Ohh! Mmm.

Mmm.

It's good to see you.

[Exhales]

I found out what they're gonna hit tonight.

[Crowd Cheering, Applauding]

[Mid-tempo Pop Rock]

Have a good show.

[Emcee On Loudspeakers]

And now, Club 1235 is proud to present Caitlin Davies! [Cheering, Applauding Continue]

[Continues]

[Chattering]

[Caitlin Singing]

We'll cover the front.

Switek, Hackman's gonna hit the theater.

Patch me through to Crockett.

[Continues]

Electrical maintenance.

Okay, go on in.

[Ringing]

[Caitlin Continues Singing]

[Cheering, Applauding]

[Pop Ballad]

[Vocalizing]

[Singing]

[Caitlin Continues Singing]

[Continues]

[Cheering, Applauding Continue]

[Cheering, Applauding Continue]

I just thought you might need some help.

[Phone Ringing]

[Ringing Continues]

I'll get it.

Hello? Uh-huh.

Yeah, thanks.

That was M.

E.

Calling.

Caitlin was, uh, seven weeks pregnant.

Sonny.

[Cheering, Applauding]

Hey, amigo.

It's been almost three weeks, man.

You know, everybody down at the office really misses you.

Yeah.

Planning on staying a while, Rico? I just thought you might like some company.

I don't.

Well, you know where I am.

Yep.

Look, if you wanna talk [Sighs]

What about? What about the Panamanians? I meet with them tomorrow.

Keep it loose.

String 'em along for a couple, three more days.

Now for the meat and potatoes.

Blatt called his girlfriend.

I hope she has her medical insurance paid up.

[Tubbs]

From Chicago.

Reach out and touch someone.

Yeah, but he's flying in tonight.

Well, he's either real stupid or real confident.

Or figures that she's so scared she's gonna keep her mouth shut.

Maybe we should throw him a surprise party.

Maybe he's setting us up.

With Hackman? [Switek]

Great.

If Hackman's there, we can finally drive a stake through his heart.

Blatt's not setting us up.

Doesn't have the brains for that.

My timing's pretty good, huh? I, uh I wasn't gonna come back until tomorrow, but I've scraped and polished and fixed everything on the boat that needs to be scraped or polished and fixed.

So I thought I'd stick my head in.

So, Blatt's coming in tonight, huh? What about Hackman? A week ago he was on the Virgin Gorda.

Yeah, under the name You ready for this? Crockett.

Yeah, he always did have a good sense of humor.

The week before that he was in Martinique.

Just keeps moving around.

Well, all those short hops aren't gonna do anything for his frequent-flier points.

We're about two or three days behind him.

You think Blatt knows where he is? I hope so.

Your request for transfer.

[Papers Rustling]

You didn't send it in? I thought you might want to take a look at it.

Thanks.

You wanna go without backup? If we don't go in now, Julia's probably gonna have to make another trip to the emergency room.

[Knocking]

[Sighs]

Hey, kid.

I missed you.

Get me a beer and go upstairs.

Okay? Okay.

Julia always said you were the soul of romance.

Don't even think about it.

[Tubbs]

You gotta admire Blatt for his loyalty.

[Switek]

Yeah, it took him a long time to give up Hackman almost 10 minutes.

[Tubbs]

Caicos Island? A beautiful Caribbean vacation.

Yeah, he sure knows how to have a good time.

If he tries to leave the island, he'll be detained.

Arranging extradition might be a problem.

Crockett? Try to get some rest.

[Phonograph: Jazz, Man Singing]

[Continues]

Looks like we're even.

Even? No.

Not even close.

I guess I'm busted.

You enjoying your stay on the island? [Chuckling]

How do you like the place? Took me a few weeks to get everything set up.

You know.

I had to figure out where I wanted to retire, find a house, furnish it, get some of my stuff sent down.

I'd hate to leave.

I'm just getting comfortable.

Get up.

I'm afraid I got other plans, Crockett.

Plans I made with the local judge and the police which involve their pensions.

[Chuckles]

See, I'm really a very altruistic guy.

Get up.

No way.

No way.

I sure as hell know the same way you couldn't let an innocent man be ex*cuted that you can't sh**t an unarmed man.

Wrong.

[Pop Ballad]

[Continues]

[Caitlin Singing]

[Fades]
