[instrumental music]

[tires screeching]

Did I see that?

[sirens wailing]

[music continues]

Cops...I don't need cops.

We're not too real excited

about drunk drivers
either, pal.

Who says I'm drunk?

Step out of the car.

Listen, I'm an engineer.
I have got--

Step to the back of the car,
put your hands on the trunk.

Let's go.

Let's go, right here.

Hey, Ponch.

You stay put.

Remember that
m*llitary transport

that was h*jacked

Yeah, the crooks got
a short-range m*ssile

didn't they?

Take a look right there.

Maybe we oughta
put him in the chain

and let somebody
who knows the case

decide if this guy's
righteous..

...or if he's dangerous.

[instrumental music]

[theme music]

[music continues]

[instrumental music]

[music continues]

Get used to it.

I'm supposed to see
Lt. LeGarre.

You've found him.

Yeah, you don't look like
any lieutenant I ever saw.

What is this?

Your new assignment.

Uh, look man, maybe dumping
that sergeant

on his can was a little
off-base, but--

Not interested.

You don't need
to alibi to me.

I'm not the chief's
hatchet man.

No? Then what am I doing
in this dump? What is this?

Some kind of set-up to buy me
trouble with the brass?

What I'm buying you
is another chance, officer.

It's me..

...or take your lumps
with the chief.

What kind of
place is this?

Till we get funded,
it's Force Seven's home.

Force Seven?
Never heard of it.

That's the way
it's supposed to be.

'Here, put these on.'

What for?

Because I said so.

Secret unit,
secret codes.. Sure.

This is one of those
slick outfits

the brass
likes to put together.

Not slick, just special.

If you can handle it.

Cracking around,
doing my own thing?

No three-stripers looking over
my shoulder?

I can handle it.

If I knew what this Force Seven
does for a living.

Let's start with
what we don't do.

We don't carry g*ns
for a living.

Come on, Sly.
Cindy, wider angles.

'Keep it flowing. Good.'

'Watch your
att*ck zone. Good!'

Keep it flowing.

This little shrimp is getting
pretty fast, boss.

My speed comes
from absolute fear

that you're going to
trip and crush me.

Now, I ask you, was that
a kind thing to say?

Rick Nichols,
Sly Angeletti

'and Cindy Davis.'

Sure.
How could I forget?

You were working
rent pot detectives

when I came out
of the academy.

- Nice to see you again.
- Yeah, I remember you.

You're the turkey who
impersonated a vice cop

at a topless bar your
first week on the job.

Haven't changed much,
have you?

I am third member

of distinguished
martial arts team.

Well, tell him
your name, dummy.

I am known as Yin of Yang.
Thank you.

Terrific. Puppets,
pajamas, sticks.

We got ourselves
a regular circus here.

Hey, old Yang here
is one thing

but I wouldn't put down
the sticks, pal.

They might just save
you from getting

your butt kicked
one of these days.

These are all I need,
friend.

Your art's the best art.

You did the bio
on me, lieutenant.

And from the look
of this place

I guess my art's the reason
you took me on.

I've done karate
since I was seven.

I'm a fifth dan shotokan.

Third degree Taekwondo.

Yin of Yang impressed.

Karate can't always
defang a snake.

Well, I haven't met any snakes
who can b*at it.

Wha-a-a!

Wanna try?

[instrumental music]

I predict something is about
to hit the venerable fan.

Hyah!

[grunts]

Has the snake
been defanged? Huh?

Basket's not empty yet.

[grunts]

[beeping]

Welcome to Force Seven.
Ha ha ha!

[beeping]

Nichols is here, chief,
if that's what you're wondering.

Well, I'm not sure
why you want him.

But you're welcome
to him.

I've got something
urgent enough

to make me glad
I said yes

when you proposed
Force Seven.

The short-range
arrow m*ssile.

As you know,
one was h*jacked

from the m*llitary

Now the problem
has been compounded.

This man, Alan Drummond

has the knowledge
to launch it.

'He was arrested by
the highway patrol'

'but released before
the right people'

'made any connection
to the papers found'

'in his possession.'

'Lieutenant,
he's the kind of man'

'that would hire out
for anything.'

All he needs is
the 16 basic components

to put a launch
system together.

And the m*llitary
auctions off

every one of those
components as scrap?

Says right here,
manufacturers use them

for things like
communication relays

and climate control systems.

But none of them use all 16.

So we check all
the auction shipments

that went to warehouses
or trucking operations

instead of the end users,
right?

Why? What's all this
have to do with Force Seven?

There's a m*ssile out there

and a lot of people could die.

And we get the job done.

The quiet way.

Next warehouse
is in Compton on Sutter.

- Question.
- sh**t.

Why'd you take on Nichols?

Same reason I took
on a 300 pound gorilla like you.

[chuckles]

There's something
special about him.

'Yeah, well what I heard
from his IAD rap sheet'

his only specialty
is big trouble.

More than that.

You gonna tell me?

The gift of chi.

Hey, I heard of that.

A few years ago
I saw an old Korean

lift a 50 gallon drum
with his open hand.

Now they called that chi.

Are we talking about
the same thing?

The concentration
of total energy.

In his hand?
You mean Nichols can do that?

He's got the potential.

[Cindy on radio]
Asa. Tito.

Tito. How ya doing?

Well, we're
on number eight warehouse.

But I know this company.

The mob's got their
whole fist in it.

I'm afraid the usual
con won't get us in.

We're rolling.

[instrumental music]

[instrumental music]

You guys got any openings?

We're not looking for help.

Hey, me and my friend
here can get more done

in an hour than you can
all day long.

Look, I said
take a hike.

Get the idea?

You, goldbricks,
checking this out?

[dramatic music]

What do you say?
We get the job?

Pay's four bucks an hour.

Hey, come on.
We're worth 20.

Four bucks.

We'll think about it.

[instrumental music]

[intense music]

Hey! What do you
think you're doing?

'Come here!'

'Get her!'

Hoo-ha!

[instrumental music]

Take that side.

[music continues]

[music continues]

Let's check over there.

[intense music]

'Check that aisle.'

[instrumental music]

[tires screeching]

Hey, wait up.

What's got you
so fried, anyway?

Why won't you
talk to me?

We had a job to do
and you almost blew it.

You know, maybe the problem
with this Force Seven outfit

is you're all too serious.
Loosen up, have some fun.

Look, Force Seven is something
we want to prove for the future.

We don't need you
screwing it up.

Screwing what up?

What's LeGarre
trying to prove anyway?

There's a better way
than g*ns and SWAT teams.

But pull another stunt
like you just did

and you'll have us all
back pounding the b*at.

You got something against
basic police work?

Listen, beauty.

My husband was k*lled
five years ago

doing basic police work.

Force Seven just happens
to be the one way

I can feel good about
staying on the job..

...and maybe, just maybe,
finding a whole new way

to preserve a very
precious commodity

called human life.

Put it all together
and we've got a pattern.

Launch components cross-shipped
to two key warehouses.

The one where the kid screwed up
and the one on commerce.

'Right. We'll go tonight.'

Who gets Rick,
the wonder boy?

What say, coach? Looking
good enough for the team?

Except the team doesn't
want to work with you.

Why, because I dig
doing my own thing?

What's wrong with that?

Nothing.

As long as you know
when to and when not to.

But you just don't seem
to know the difference.

What do you want from me?

I want you to be
a part of this team.

Why?

Because I'm a cop
with something to prove.

Yeah, well I've got
something to prove.

And I've been proving it
since I was 12 years old.

I can make it, man,
on my own

with nobody helping
or wanting to help

'cause that's
the bottom line.

The bottom line was me
picking up the pieces

as you were on your way
out the front door.

You didn't get here alone

and you're dreaming if you think
you can get anywhere

crackin' around
doing your own thing.

This is a team.

I'm not about to
let you tear it apart.

[dramatic music]

[music continues]

I'm in.

- Five card draw.
- Deal the cards.

[male #1]
Don't forget. Jacks are better.

[male #2]
Come on, give me some cards.

[indistinct chatter]

[music continues]

Sixteen of 'em.

I told you I was on to something
this afternoon.

Stay put.

[music continues]

[intense music]

Well, now.
Look what we got here.

I got trouble.

[music continues]

Hyah!

[laughing]

Standin' there funny ain't
gonna do you much good.

Not after we get
through with ya.

Not a very fair fight,
is it, Rick?

One of you,
and only five of them.

But then again,
we shouldn't pass up

a training opportunity,
should we?

Any particular move, coach?

How about a heaven two
and a heaven six?

[grunting]

[groaning]

Well done, LeGarre.

Nakura.

How long has it
been, LeGarre?

10 years?

10 years since
Saigon, LeGarre.

[intense music]

[music continues]

You're a dead man,
LeGarre.

[g*ns cocking]

Load the components.

When the loading is done..

Bring me his other eye.

[intense music]

I can't move.

[music continues]

Hyah!

Hyah.

[g*nf*re]

Where's your g*n?

I don't know, it's too dark.
I can't see it.

Now it's my turn,
with your Kn*fe.

Let's get out of here.

Why didn't you
come off like that

against your friend Nakura?

[dramatic music]

[intense music]

[metal screeching]

What did they do?

They failed.

Everything in order,
Mr. Drummond?

I'm on schedule.
The m*ssile's in place.

Your last component
just arrived.

Then it is time
to arm the warhead.

[intense music]

Bring it in.

[music continues]

[whirring]

Box.

[music continues]

[music continues]

Close it.

[intense music]

Is this my place?

Right. Start rolling.

Mr. Mayor, behind me

you see a short-range
arrow m*ssile.

Along with this tape,
I am sending you

a small sample of what
is contained in its warhead.

Begin a*t*matic launch, please.

[whirring]

If I get word from my men
that payment has been made

I will cancel the countdown
by entering

a special launch override code
known only to me.

If payment is not made

then the m*ssile
will be launched at one o'clock

tomorrow afternoon.

A deadly crimson cloud
will hang over your city.

'The death count, Mr. Mayor,
may be strictly nominal'

but tens of thousands
will suffer the effects.

Give me a visual blow-up,
100 times.

Bad news.

That crimson cloud will do
exactly what he says it'll do.

It's T2, a spore the Soviets
used in Vietnam and Afghanistan.

Here's your blow-up,
lieutenant.

That's the Hercules
constellation

in back of the m*ssile.

Sly...supergrid 90 zebra
on the m*ssile blow-up.

[keys clacking]

Okay..

Bring up map 72.

Punch it up.

There it is.

Right at the foot of
the San Bruno mountains.

We'll notify the m*llitary
and mobilize SWAT.

The city of Los Angeles
thanks you, lieutenant.

And then what, Mr. Mayor?
A lot of noise?

A lot of sh**ting?

Enough time for Nakura
to launch a m*ssile

before anyone can reach him?

My apologies, lieutenant.

Force Seven was created
for just this kind of situation

wasn't it?

Alright.
It's all yours, LeGarre.

Let's roll.

[dramatic music]

All of us?

All of us.

[intense music]

[beeping]

How do we get past that?

Everything is perfect.

You have done well,
Drummond.

All part of the price.

Which by the way is due.

Pay him.

[flute music]

[dog barking]

[music continues]

[growling]

[whimpering]

Hey! Hey! Get down!

Hey! What is..
What's the matter with you?

[whimpering]

[automated response]
'Zero minus 21 minutes
to launch and counting.'

Well?

Our people report there's
been no payment made yet, sir.

[flute music]

[dramatic music]

[intense music]

[instrumental music]

[whip lashing]

[music continues]

Very nice.

I was just starting to work
on getting past him.

[Cindy]
What are you doing here?

I could use some help
getting us both inside.

This way.

[music continues]

[engine revving]

[automated response]
'Zero minus 16 minutes
and counting.'

[intense music]

[Yin of Yang]
'Ya-hoo!'

'Oh, yes.'

Welcome to top of stairs.

What the..

'Come closer, please.'

I suppose it's unusual
to see old man in tree.

But, you see, this is what
we call a diversion.

Look behind you.

Thanks, pal.

You are most welcome,
rotund one.

[dramatic music]

I know you're there, LeGarre.

I know you're coming.

I know.

[dramatic music]

Keep coming, LeGarre.

Keep coming.

[intense music]

[music continues]

[automated response]
'Zero minus nine minutes
and counting.'

[music continues]

[automated response]
'Zero minus seven minutes
and counting.'

[music continues]

[automated response]
'Zero minus five minutes
and counting.'

It is time.

[whispering]
See you on the other side.

[intense music]

Go!

[intense music]

Hyah!

[grunting]

[grunting]

[grunting]

[alarm blaring]

[automated response]
'Intrusion.'

'a*t*matic launch override
must be initiated.'

'Repeat.'

'a*t*matic launch override
must be initiated.'

[instrumental music]

[g*nf*re]

[intense music]

Hyah!

[grunts]

Less than three minutes,
LeGarre.

I want the override
code, Nakura.

[knives clanking]

[music continues]

Argh!

[groaning]

[alarm blaring]

Once more, LeGarre,
take your sh*t.

[dramatic music]

[music continues]

Your life for the code.

[automated response]
'Zero minus one minute
and counting.'

[intense music]

That violates your
philosophy, LeGarre.

My philosophy
is to preserve life.

The code, Nakura!

[automated response]
'Zero minus 30 seconds.'

The code..

...is six, six, six.

[music continues]

[automated response]
'17...16...15..'

[whirring]

[computer beeping]

Someone must have
set an extra delay

on the warhead!

'We are all going to die.'

[dramatic music]

We have less than a minute
until it explodes.

What's the code?

I don't know!

The panels open on the side,
but you'll never make it.

It'll take at least an hour
to rig the hydraulics.

Sly, quick.

[sighs]
Okay, I see it.

[music continues]

I can't reach it.

What now?

It's up to you, Rick.

Use your chi.

We're down to 30 seconds.

Come on, man!

Use your chi.

Just concentrate.

You can do it.

Focus all your energy.

[intense intensifies]

Just concentrate, Rick.

'That's it.'

That's good.

Cover!

I knew you could
do it, Rick.

I wasn't so sure.

It has been said
that man with chi

is truly divine.

What can I say?

Do us a favor and don't.

[laughing]

[instrumental music]

Hey, guys, remember
that douche you picked up

a couple weeks ago, the one
with the, uh, funny papers?

Yeah, what about him?

LAPD sent over
a commendation.

Your bust led them
right to some crazy

with an M2 Arrow m*ssile
he had ideas of launching.

- Heavy.
- So, what about the crazy?

Well, he, his private army,
and the m*ssile all wrapped up.

Congratulations.

Now that's what I call
heads up police work, huh?

- Typical.
- Typical?

Sure. Crooks just can't escape
the long arm of the law, Jon.

You know that, don't you?

[instrumental music]

[theme music]
