[narrator] Our heroes are away from Alola
to learn about

the Kanto region. Today?
Pokémon battles at the Cerulean Gym!

-Oh, yeah!
-Pika.

[all gasp]

Hey, look! Something's over there!

-Psy!
-All right! Hey, it's Psyduck!

So cute!

Hey! Thanks a lot for minding
the store, Psyduck!

-Psy.
-Welcome to the Cerulean Gym.

-My Gym!
-Psyduck!

-Pikachu!
-Geodude.

-Pikachu!
-Psy!

-Psy!
-Geodude.

[Misty chuckles]

Yeah! It's been so long
since I've felt like this!

I want to get started battling right now!

Formal introduction time.
This is the leader of the Cerulean Gym

and an expert in Water-type Pokémon.
Misty.

Nice to meet you all!

This is the former Pewter Gym Leader
and a Rock-type Pokémon expert, Brock!

-Hey there!
-These are the two you'll be battling!

I want you all to feel the heat!
It's like a Blast Burn!

Pokémon Trainers in the Kanto region
make their way from Gym to Gym

while battling Gym Leaders.

A Trainer who wins the battle receives
a Gym badge as proof.

The Cerulean Gym has the Cascade Badge!

This badge is proof of victory at
the Pewter Gym. the Boulder Badge!

[all cheer]

-Pretty, huh?
-Yeah!

You won all the badges
from the Kanto region?

Sure did! You can win eight badges
and I won 'em all!

In my case,
I gave him a badge out of pity.

-Say, that story has a familiar ring.
-Ash, what's that supposed to mean?

[groans and chuckles]
After you've collected all eight badges,

you compete in the Pokémon League!

-The Pokémon League?
-It's a big Pokémon tournament

where the best Trainers compete!

Pika.

So why don't we start with some
practice battles against Misty and Brock?

Which Trainer is up first?

[all] Me!

I want to battle with Misty!

Okay! You're in!

Please! One more?

-I'd rather battle against Brock!
-Me, too!

And me, I want to battle both of them!

-Oh, dear. How do I choose?
-Please don't worry. It'll be fine.

Now, ready to go?

[both] Right!

Hey, guys! Misty may not look it,
but she's tough! Give it all you got!

What do you mean by that?
I look tough enough.

Okay, g*ng, let's see what you can do.

I'll make sure to record all the action!

I'm all set to go!
All right, Steenee, Magical Leaf!

Steenee! Steenee!

Psy. Psy. Psy.

Popplio, use Bubble Beam!

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!

Psy. Psy. Psy.

Psyduck! Psy! Psy!

-All right!
-I think we won!

Psyduck, use Water g*n!

Psyduck!

Pop! Pop!

-You're kidding!
-Popplio, that was great!

[yaps]

It sucked in all the water!

Lana, that was pretty creative!
So what do you do with it?

Balloon, launch!

Psyduck.

Psy. Psy. Psy.

When Lana and Popplio start their balloon
work, they're simply amazing!

Yeah, they are, but Psyduck is
at its best when the chips are down.

-Use Confusion!
-Psy. Psy. Psyduck.

-Psyduck?
-Pika.

Why isn't Psyduck using the move?

Because Misty's Psyduck is
kind of a flake.

-Use Magical Leaf one more time!
-Steenee!

Psy.

-Sorry about that!
-That's going to leave a mark.

-Psyduck will be fine. No worries!
-Psy!

-Pika.
-Here it comes.

Psy.

[whimpers] Hey, what's happening now?

-Psy. Psy. Psy.
-[squealing]

That's Confusion! Why use it now?

-Yeah. That's enough. Great!
-Psy.

It's time to let Steenee
and Popplio down now.

Psyduck.

-Popplio.
-Steenee.

And that's that. They're done.

I knew Misty and Psyduck made
a great team!

You have shown amazing battle instincts!

-Really? Oh, go on!
-I'm more confident already!

Psy! Psy!

Hey! What's going on?

Uh, it's beginning to feel
the lump on its head from when it fell.

-Such slow reaction time.
-[chuckles] Psyduck's so cute!

The cutest!
Psyduck is such a sweetheart!

Psy. Psy.

-Now, time for our battle!
-Geodude.

Right! Togedemaru! Zing Zap, let's go!

Togedemaru!

-Togedemaru.
-Vol!

Geodude.

-But how? It didn't do a thing!
-You're right.

Why not? Electric-type moves
should have an effect!

-Geodude's a Rock and Electric type!
-You're talking about an Alolan Geodude.

The one from Kanto is
a Rock and Ground type.

Electric-type moves have no effect!

[screams] Of course! Regional variants!

How could I have miscalculated?

Sophocles,
you just leave everything to us.

Snowy, Powder Snow!

Volpix!

-Geodude! Gyro Ball!
-Geo! Geo!

[both gasp]

-Yeah! Awesome!
-Pika.

Dude!

But Gyro Ball's an att*ck move, isn't it?

It can be used this way,
depending on how you train!

Ha! Geodude.

I've never read about that.
Gym Leaders! They're the best!

-Brock's no pushover.
-I once had this challenger.

During battle,
he taught me to think outside the box.

-Huh?
-I hope you agree, battling is amazing!

-With endless possibilities!
-[all] Right!

With all the Pokémon types,
moves and training,

the battles a Trainer
can have are limitless.

You also have to know
your opponent's Pokémon well

to avoid the silly mistake I just made.
[chuckles]

-So! Ash and Kiawe, you're next!
-Professor, I want to take on Brock

-in a no-holds-barred battle.
-Me, too! But with Misty.

Think you'll win? That'll be the day!

You may regret this, Kiawe.

-[all gasp]
-Well, an interesting turn of events.

Time for some no-holds-barred battling!
First up, Kiawe versus Brock!

Then I'll be the referee.
This battle is one-on-one!

The battle is over when one side's
Pokémon can't continue!

I warn you,
I'm confident about my strength!

Happy to hear that!

A Gym Leader looks for how Trainer
and Pokémon combine strengths!

-That's more important than scoring a win!
-Which raises my confidence!

Turtonator, let's go!

-Turto!
-Here's my partner. Come out!

Steelix!

It's so big!

-Pika.
-It's Steelix!

Steelix. The Iron Snake Pokémon.

A Steel and Ground type. Heat from
underground strengthens its hide.

The pressure makes
it harder than metal.

Maro.

Let's see. Steel types are weak
against Fire-types,

which means
Turtonator has the advantage!

Fire types are weak against
Ground type moves,

so you could also say Steelix
has the advantage.

Then that means
they're evenly matched up!

[grunts] Brock! Kiawe!
I want to see a great battle out there!

All right. Battle begin!

Turtonator, now! Use Flamethrower!

-Turtonator!
-[Steelix groans]

[chuckles] Steelix, use Gyro Ball!

[growls]

Steelix.

What?

-Pika.
-[Ash gasps]

[chuckles] More thinking out of the box.

All right, Steelix, Bind, let's go!

Turto.

-Turtonator, Shell Trap!
-Turtonator!

[roars] Turto.

-Hey! Not bad!
-Not so bad yourself!

Dragon Tail!

Turtonat!

-[Brock] Use Dig!
-[roars]

Turtonator! Look out below!

Turtonator? Turto!

[groans]

-Awesome move.
-Pika.

[all gasp]

[growls]

Turto.

I can't win this with a prolonged battle.
Let's finish it off quickly with a Z-Move!

All right! From what I hear,
Z-Moves make use of all of your power!

Then we'll counter with all of our power!

I'm not called Brock the Rock for nothing,
you know!

-[gasps]
-Say what?

Time for... Mega Evolution!

Steelix.

Mega Evolution?

[all] Who's that Pokémon?

It's Psyduck!

[Psyduck] Psyduck.

-Oh! It's Mega Steelix!
-Pika.

Brand-new data!

But how? Steelix got so much bigger!

That's amazing!

-That's Mega Evolution?
-Correct!

Mega Evolution is a phenomenon in battle

when a Pokémon
and its Trainer's hearts join as one.

It's a remarkable thing to see.

I've heard about Z-Moves. Show me one!

Right!

And we'll win with it!
Turtonator, let's go!

-Turto.
-The zenith of my mind, body, and spirit!

Become a raging fire and burn!

Inferno Overdrive!

Turtonator!

[Brock groans]

What happened?

It's... not possible!

-How could it withstand a Z-Move?
-[all gasp]

That Z-Move had
an incredible amount of power!

-[Brock] It affected Mega Steelix!
-Turto.

But Turtonator wasn't able to go
that one last step!

Use Stone Edge!

[grunts] Turtonator! Use Dragon Tail!

Turtonator!

-Turtonator!
-Pika.

Turto.

Turtonator is unable to battle!
So, Steelix wins!

Kiawe lost!

And all that after Kiawe and Turtonator
worked so hard.

Gym Leaders are strong.

This data will never ever be deleted!

[gasps] What was that?

After a battle, Mega-Evolved Pokémon
return to normal.

That was great work, Steelix! Thanks!

-Turtonator, you okay?
-Turtonator.

[groans]

Maro! Maro! Maro!

Marowak!
I know how frustrating losing can be,

-but praise them for their work!
-Maro!

What did you think? Talk to me.

I loved it! I was on the edge of my seat!

Yeah, my heart's still racing!

Mine, too! Pokémon battles are the best!

-[pants] Misty, don't forget, I'm next!
-Pika! Pika!

Who, me? Never! You're next! Promise!

Huh?

-Whoa! Whoa!
-Pikachu!

That's so awesome!
A Water-type Pokémon b*ttlefield!

When you say Cerulean Gym,
it's got to be water!

[chuckles] The field changes
with whatever Pokémon are battling on it!

Does Ash realize he's just been put
at a huge disadvantage?

Where is his Pokémon supposed to stand?

I got this covered, Sophocles! [chuckles]

-Pikachu, you're up!
-Pikachu.

Pi. Pika. Pika!

-I figured it would be Pikachu!
-Yeah! You know us.

Since Misty uses Water types, an Electric
type like Pikachu has the advantage!

Misty versus Ash!
The rules remain the same, one-on-one!

-Ash, are you sure you're ready?
-Yup!

Now, the other
internationally known beauty!

Go, my one and only!

[Gyarados roars]

-Pika.
-Oh! It's Gyarados!

Yes, Gyarados, the Atrocious Pokémon.
A Water and Flying type.

Rumors exist of a town
that made Gyarados angry.

The town was b*rned to
the ground, leaving no trace!

Gyarados versus Pikachu! Begin!

Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!

Pika! Pikachu!

All right, Hydro Pump!

See that?
Water-type moves can stop electric types!

Does not compute!

Use Quick att*ck!

Pika! Pi! Pi!

Follow it with Electro Ball!

-Pika!
-Rain Dance, go!

Huh? Uh...

It's raining.

But how can it rain in here?

-It feels so good!
-Pop! Pop! Pop!

-Pika.
-[Ash] Don't worry, Pikachu!

Pika! Pika! Pi!

Gyarados, use Hurricane!

Pika!

-Oh, wow!
-[squeaks]

-That packed a lot of power!
-How about that?

There's nowhere to run.

Using Hurricane in the rain
was a good move.

It canceled out an Electric-type move
that causes damage.

[roars]

[Kukui] So that's Misty's plan
to defeat Pikachu.

-Pikachu, are you okay?
-Pika.

Ash, feast your eyes!
Looks great on me, don't you think?

Huh? You got one, too?

Strong, valiant and powerful!

And now, my beautiful blue sweetheart!
Mega Evolve!

[roars]

[all gasp]

Pika.

[grunts] Hey, Misty, this is fun!

-Sure is! Now, use Hydro Pump!
-[roars]

Pika. [pants]

Pika!

[Misty] You're not getting away!
Use Crunch!

Pi. Pi. [pants]

-Pikachu, now use Iron Tail!
-It won't work from that posture!

-Now jump up on Gyarados!
-Pika!

[pants]

-[Ash] Quick! Use Iron Tail!
-[pants]

Pika!

Look at that! A direct hit!

-Huh? You two always were good!
-Pika.

Here it comes! One more time!

Hurricane, go!

[all grunt]

[groans] Use Thunderbolt!

Pika?

That's a Rain Dance and Hurricane
combination!

No challenger
in my Gym has broken through it!

Ha! That was nice of you to let me know!
Thanks, Misty.

Breaking through stuff
makes battling awesome!

-What are you talking about?
-Pikachu! Can you hear me?

-Pika.
-Climb up the Hurricane!

[all] Huh?

[chuckles]

Does not compute! Does not compute!

Use Quick att*ck
and climb up the electricity!

Electric platforms! [chuckles]

Pikachu!

-[both] It worked!
-[gasps]

Uh-huh. That's Ash for you.

-Pika.
-I think it's time for a Z-Move!

Pikachu!
-[grunts]

Let's go, Pikachu!

Pika! Pika...

All right! Here we go with full power now!

-Pika. Pika. Pika.
-[Ash] Use Gigavolt Havoc!

Chu!

[Brock] Gyarados is unable to battle!
Pikachu is the winner!

-Way to go! You did it, buddy!
-Pika. Pika! Pikachu!

That was an amazing battle, Gyarados!

-I think you've gotten stronger, Ash.
-[laughs] Got to agree with you.

But that little kid inside of you
stays just the same.

-Little kid inside of me?
-We're talking really little!

Okay, you two!

[sighs]

Like Wela Volcano!

-Wasn't that amazing?
-Yes!

Misty's skill with
Water types is so inspiring!

I'm sure this battle conjured up
all kinds of emotions!

Treasure this experience and when
you're back in Alola, keep it with you!

Here! They're replicas,

-but they'll remind you of today.
-This is great! Thanks a lot!

Cerulean is the color of water,
a beautiful blue!

-It's like nothing I've ever seen before!
-I never would guess that it's a fake!

-I'll win a real battle the next time!
-You're welcome to try!

-Misty, do you mind if we come back again?
-Any time!

I'm more confident than ever.

We need to make the Pokémon League
part of Alola's great traditions.

I think that's a marvelous idea!

Some badges would fit the bill-Lillipup!

-Hm. [chuckles]
-[Brock] Ash?

-Huh?
-That was a lot of fun!

It felt like old times!

And now it's your turn to come visit me
in Alola!

-Pikachu.
-[both] Sure! Count on it, Ash!

Course I will!

[narrator] And the Pokémon School's field
trip to the Kanto region comes to an end.

But can Professor Kukui's dream
of creating

an Alolan Pokémon League
become a reality?

Only the stars in the Alolan
sky know for sure.

Bummer! I thought we'd be back
in Alola by now.

Patience, old chum!

We've been on the water
for three whole days!

Wobbuffet.

[Team Rocket] We're off with a new blast!

...as the journey continues!
