♪ The Cat in the Hat
is about to appear ♪

♪ He's whizzing over
to whisk you away ♪

♪ On a fabulous journey
today ♪

- He's coming!
- ♪ Now he's arrived

♪ In the Thinga-ma-jigger,
the thing that he drives ♪

♪ He's a cat
and he's oodles of fun ♪

♪ With his hairy helpers,
Thing Two and Thing One ♪

- Whoo-hoo!



- Whoa!



[laughter]



- Whoa!
- Wahoo!

- ♪ It's the Cat in the Hat

♪ All of our adventures
start like that ♪

♪ Wherever you're going,
wherever you're at ♪

♪ The Cat in the Hat
knows a lot about... ♪

- ♪ He knows a lot about,
he knows a lot about ♪

all: ♪ He knows a lot
about that ♪

[laughter]

[upbeat music]



- This is looking great!

Just a little more here...
Yes!

Now all it needs is paint.
- Nick!

Wait till you see
what I can do!

[gasps]
- Whoa!

Ooh, that was close.

- What are you doing?

- I just finished making
this mountain out of clay.

- Wow!
It looks really real!

- And I'm not even done yet!

This mountain green paint

is gonna make it look like
it's covered with trees!

- It's so cool!

Almost as cool as...
my new yo-yo trick!

- I'd really like to see it,

but maybe you should
show me outside.

- It's okay.
I'm getting pretty good at it.

It's called
"Around the World"!

Oops!

- Mountain green
is definitely not my color.

- Aww, no!

- I'm so sorry!

I'll clean this up
while you get some more paint.

- There isn't any more.

That was special
mountain green paint.

- Oh. Don't worry.

I'm putting my yo-yo away.

Whoa!
- [gasps]

- Ah!

- Oh, no!
I'm so sorry, Nick.

- I--I need to go outside.

- It was an accident.
Right, Fish?

- That paint
sure is slippery.

I think Nick's upset.

- We better go outside
and see if he's okay.

- Allow me.

- Whoa!
- What's the hurry, Sally?

- Oh, Cat, I wrecked
Nick's mountain

with my yo-yo trick.

- Is that all?

Accidents happen, Sally.

It's not the end
of the world.

- Just the end of my mountain!

- Did you know
that some accidents

can actually be good?

- How can accidents be good?

- [exclaims]
I think you both

need to meet my friend
Sara of Serendip.

- Sara of Serendip?

How can she help?

- Sara's a great
inventor.

She creates all kinds
of amazing things,

and she loves accidents!

- Why would anyone
love accidents?

- And how's that gonna
fix my mountain?

- There's only one way
to find out.

Shall we meet her?

- It's worth a try.
Let's go!

- Your father won't mind
at all if you do.

[upbeat music]

- Dad, is it okay
if Sally and I

visit the great inventor
Sara of Serendip?

- Sara of Serendip?
[chuckles]

You might be able
to teach her

a thing or two
about inventing.

Have fun!
- We can go, we can go!

- I know, I know!

To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

Buckle up!

[horn honks]

[playful music]

[whirs, clicks]

Flip the Jigger-ma-whizzer!

[boing]

[exciting music]



Isn't this fun?

both: Whoo-hoo!

- ♪ Here we go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ The Thinga-ma-jigger
is up and away ♪

both: ♪ Go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ We're flying
with the Cat in the Hat today ♪

- ♪ Serendip, Serendip,
such a beautiful land ♪

♪ Where things never happen
the way that you plan ♪

[relaxed music]

- Where's your friend Sara?

- We have to look for a sign
pointing to her workshop.

- I think we found it!

But the arrow points
in two different directions.

Which one goes
to Sara's workshop?

- I'm pretty sure it's--
oh, dear.

That way!

- Cat, both paths can't lead
to the same place.

There has to be a right way
and a wrong way.

- I guess we have to try one.

But...which one?

- It's a toss-up.
- Aha!

That's the perfect
solution, Fish.

When choosing a path
to explore Serendip,

a coin's just a thing
for a person to flip!

If it lands on heads,
Nick decides.

Tails, Sally decides.



Ha-ha! Tails!

Sally, you decide.

- This way!

[upbeat music]

[gasps]
What is that?

- Only my friend Sara

could come up with
an invention like this.

- An invention?

It just looks like something
to hold pots of paint.

- Maybe we'll find
some paint for your mountain!

- I don't see anything
that looks like mountain green.

- Are you sure?
Did you look at all of them?

Oops!
- [gasps] What did you do?

- It was an accident!

- An accident?

Oh-ho, all right!

How you doing, Cat?

- There you are: the greatest
inventor in Serendip!

- [laughs]Oh, Cat.

You always say that.

- Only because it's true.

Nick, Sally,
may I present Sara?

- Hi, Sara.

- So tell me
about this accident.

- Uh, I spilled some
of your paint by mistake,

with my yo-yo.

- Yo-yo? I never would've
thought of that.

Let's see what you've done.

I think I'll call it...
[gasps] Paintfalls!

A waterfall made of paint.

This is exactly
what I was hoping for.

Thanks to you.

- You wanted them to spill?

Why?
- See for yourself.

- Wow.
The colors are mixing.

- [gasps] If you mix
red and yellow,

you get orange!

- I think this is one of your
best inventions yet, Sara.

- The yellow paint
is mixing with the blue

and making...
- Mountain green!

It's the exact color
I need for my mountain!

Thanks for showing me
how green paint is made.

- It's Sally you should thank.

She's the one
who made the yellow

mix with the blue paint.

- But it was just an accident.

- Ha! What is it
I always say, Cat?

- Accidents happen.

both: If you're lucky!

- What does that mean?

- Sometimes when
accidents happen,

they accidentally
make you think of something

you've never thought of before.

- Like mixing blue and yellow
to get mountain green!

- Exacta-mundo!
[giggles]

- Do you think
you have an invention

that can fix my other accident?

I also wrecked
the top of Nick's mountain.

- Well, why don't we go
to my workshop and see?



- Wow! What are all these
inventions, Sara?

- I don't exactly know yet.

I'm waiting to find out!

- But they're your inventions.

You've got to know
what they are.

- Sometimes you need
to experiment

until you find out
what you got.

That's the fun part!

- When fun-filled experiments
need to be done,

it's time to get help
from Thing Two and Thing One!

[whistles]

[excited chatter]

- I'm not sure about this, Cat.

Those things are kind of
accident-prone.

- What do I always say?

- Accidents happen...
- If you're lucky?

- You've got it!
Come see what I'm working on.

This was going to be
a pedal-powered vacuum cleaner,

but I think it could
be something else.

- [chatters]
- Whoa!

[excited chatter]

Oh, come on.

[playful music]



Uh-oh.



[muffled chatter]



- Uh-oh. Yikes!

- Ooh!



- [gasps]
That's it!

You've helped me invent
the bubble-blowing bicycle!

[giggles]

You see, you never know
what you'll find...

- If you keep
an open mind.

- Okay, I get it,

but I don't see
anything here

that can fix the big hole
in my mountain.

- Well, then we'll
have to keep looking.

- What's this
going to be, Sara?

- I've mixed baking powder,

liquid dish soap,
and a little water.

But I'm not sure
what to add next.

- I guess we need
another accident!

- Maybe Sally should
do her yo-yo trick.

[laughs]

- I'd love to see that.

- I don't think
that's a good idea.

- Oh, Fish, there are no
bad ideas in this workshop.

- Okay, if you're sure.

[dramatic music]

- Oh!
- What a catch!

- I've been looking all over
for this bottle of vinegar.

[gasps]
I wonder what would happen

if we added it
to this pot.

- There's only one way
to find out!

- Okay, kids.

Only adults should handle
this kind of mixture.

We have to be safe,
so put these on!

- Ooh, safety goggles.

[drum roll]

- Just a smidge...

[exciting music]

- Cool!
Who knew that would happen?

- I think I'd better
get a yo-yo.

You seem to get
a lot done with yours.

- You can have mine,
if you like.

- Really?
You'd let me have it?

- Please, take it![laughs]

- [laughs] I think I've had
enough accidents for one day.

And we still haven't
figured out

how to fix the hole
in Nick's mountain.

- Hmm...

I know exactly
how to fix it!

Sara, can I borrow the things
you mixed together?

- Of course, as long
as you use them safely.

- Thank you!
Come on, let's go!

All right, everyone.
Are you ready?

all: Ready!

- Thanks to Sara's Paintfalls,

I found out I could make green

by mixing blue and yellow.

But then I thought,
"Why have a green mountain

when I could have
a rainbow mountain?"

- Ooh!
- Ahh!

- But it still has
a hole in the top.

- Right! Why make a mountain
when I can make a volcano?

- Bravo, Nick!
How inventive!

- Is it really going to erupt
like a real volcano?

- I hope so!

I mixed the baking soda, water,
and soap, just like Sara did,

and I added orangey-red paint
to make it look like lava.

Now, if you just
add the vinegar,

we should get
a volcanic eruption!

- Okay, stand back, everybody.

This is so exciting!

[bubbling]

- It worked!

- You did it!

- Well done, Nick.

- Thanks to Sally
and her accidents.

- Well, you know
what we all say.

- Accidents happen...

- If you're lucky!

[laughter]

- Cat, what are you
gonna paint?

- I don't know yet.

Hmm.

- Whoa--ugh!

[accordion music]

Sorry, Cat.

- That's okay, Sally.

It was only an accident,

and accidents
can be wonderful things.

- They can?
- Yes.

♪ Now, some people fret
about making mistakes ♪

♪ But I've got
a message for you ♪

♪ The greatest inventors
rely on mistakes ♪

♪ To help them create
something new ♪

♪ When accidents happen,
they give us a chance ♪

- Ugh!

[off-key squeaking]

- Oops. I almost did it.

Okay, this time.

[playing music notes]



Yes! I did it!

Hey, Sally!
You won't believe what--

[playing song on trumpet]



- I did it! I did it!

- [humming to a b*at]
- [laughing]

- What'd you do?

- [giggles]

I played a whole scale
on my saxophone!

- That's certainly
a cause for celebration!

Does Sally know?

- I was trying to tell her,
but she can't hear me.

- Maybe if I helped you
shout louder!

Hey, Sally!

Wait till you hear the news!

- Hey, Sal--

[playing song]

- Huh?

[playful music]

both: On the saxophone!

- [laughs]

You don't need to shout.

- You couldn't hear us
through your closed window.

- It's too cold
to have it open.

What's up?

- I played a whole scale

perfectly
on my saxophone!

- Whoa! I knew you'd get it.

- Wanna hear?
- Sure.

[wind gusting]

[shudders]

I wish we could do this
with the window closed.

- But then you won't
be able to hear.

- Hmm.
How come I can see you

through my closed window,
but I can't hear you?

- I don't know. Cat?

- Hmm.

I know it has something
to do with waves.

- Like on the ocean?
- Yes!

Wait, no.

Well, you know, maybe.
Kind of?

- Well, it would be great
to figure it out.

[shivers]

- Luckily, I know
where to go for that.

The Soundy Sea.
- The Soundy Sea?

- Doesn't that sound like
a fun place to be?

- If we're going to the sea,
I'm in.

- The Soundy Sea
has no water, Fish.

Only waves!

- Waves without water?
I'm out!

I think I'll stay here
and take a bath.

- Don't forget to wash
behind your ears!

- Dad, can we go
to the Soundy Sea

with the Cat in the Hat?

- The Soundy Sea?
Well, that sounds spectacular.

- I can go, I can go!
- I know, I know!

- Me too!

- To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

- Wait a second.

"Wash behind my ears"?

I don't have any ears!

- Buckle up!

[horn honks]

[playful music]

[whirs, clicks]

Flip the Jigger-ma-whizzer!

[boing]

[exciting music]



Isn't this fun?

both: Whoo-hoo!

- ♪ Here we go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ The Thinga-ma-jigger
is up and away ♪

both: ♪ Go, go, go,

♪ We're flying
with the Cat in the Hat today ♪

[magical music]

- Now, do what I do,
and be as quiet as me.

And get ready to sail
on the great Soundy Sea.

- This is the strangest-looking
beach I've ever--

- Shh!
Be very, very quiet.

- [whispering]
Why do we have to be quiet?

- You'll see.

- Is this the Soundy Sea?

- It just looks
like a weird line.

- Pardon?

- Where's the Soundy Sea?

- Sorry.
I can't hear you.

- 'Cause you told us
to whisper.

- Something's wrong
with my whiskers?

What's wrong with them?
both: Whoa!

[laughter]

- Yippee!

Yay! What was that?

- The Soundy Sea.

- It's making waves!

But it only makes waves
when we make sounds.

Look!
- It's so very true!

- Wow, there's sound waves?

We've never seen that before.

- That's because
you can only see them

at the Soundy Sea.

Want to see what you can do?

- Sure!
Let me try!

[horn blares]

- [laughing]
- Yay! Yeah!

That's so cool!

Sounds make a wave.

- Blow it again, Sally.

[horn blares, laughter]

- It's the same wave
as before!

- Isn't it fun?

- I wonder what a
different sound will do.

- Let's find out!

[rings bell]

[chiming echoes]

- Cool!
I'm gonna try a whistle.

[blows raspberries]

Oh, yeah, I don't know
how to whistle.

Cat?

[playful music]

- [inhales, whistles]

[laughter]

- Bigger sounds...

make bigger waves!

- And smaller sounds
make smaller waves.

- What great ears and eyes!

Quiet sounds...
and loud sounds!

Do make different size waves.

- Too bad we didn't bring
our instruments.

- Maybe these instruments
will do?

Oompa-pa-phone...

Bladder-umpet.

- Wow, these are great!
Thanks, Cat.

Just imagine the waves
we could make

if we had a whole band!

- When you want to make music
and you need a whole crew,

who better to call than
Thing One and Thing Two?

[whistles]

[both laughing]

[both cheer]

- Oh?

all: Over here!

both: Oh!

[sad music]

- Hmm.

Aha!

[clamoring]

[excited chatter]

- Oh! Doh! Oh! Ooh! Oh!

Oh! Doh! Ooh.

both: Hello!

- [laughs]
Make some noise!

- [clears throat]

♪ La, la-la-la-la, la

♪ La, la-la-la, la,
la-la-la-la ♪

[soft music]

- [blows nose]

That was one of the most
beautiful things

I've ever heard.

- [laughs]

Let's make some real noise!

- I like the sound of that!

And a one, and a two,
and a one, two, three.

[all playing instruments
or singing]



- ♪ La, la, la, la



[horn blares]
all: Whoa!

- Hold on tight!

It's a huge sound wave!

- And it's heading
towards that cliff!

[dramatic music]

[horn blares]

Huh?
Uh, what was that?

- It was the sound wave
of the horn!

- How did that happen?

- The Soundy Sea waves
hit the cliff

and bounced back!

- You mean, like a ball
bouncing on a wall?

- Yeah! And look.

That big wave has pushed us
back towards the shore.

- Yeah! Sound waves!

- I'll echo that.

I said, "I'll echo that!"



I'll echo that!

[laughter]

- When sound waves bounce back,

that's an...echo!



Echo!

- Help us get home!



Home!



- [sighs]
Safe and sound.

I could play with echoes
all day.

- Me, too, but we didn't come
here to play with echoes.

We came to find out why
we can't hear each other

through closed windows.

- And you know what, Sally?
We did!

- We did?
- Yep!

Thanks to the cliffs
of the Soundy Sea!



The Soundy Sea!

Get it?
- I think so!

Let's go home
and check it out.

That's the spirit!
To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

[laughs]

[saxophone music]

[music stops]

[saxophone music]

- So, when the window's open,

the sound waves
go right through,

and I can hear things,

but when the window is closed,

the sound waves hit the window
and bounce back.

Just like the cliffs
at the Soundy Sea!

- "Sounds" about right.[laughs]

- Hmm. But I don't
see any sound waves.

- They're invisible here.

That's why I took you
to the Soundy Sea,

so you could see the sounds--
see?

- [laughs]

- So, as long
as your window is closed,

the sounds I send out will
always bounce back.

- That means we can't
play together

unless our windows
are open.

- [plays saxophone]

- Unless...
- Unless what?

- Hmm.

Unless we make a "hello hose"!

- What's a hello hose?

- Hello? Nick?

Can you hear me?

- [laughing]
Ooh, it's working!

- Hello, Sally!

You're coming in
loud and clear.

One, two, three, four!

Sally, can you hear me?

Sally, send me a sign
if you can hear me!

♪ La, la, la, la, Sally!

Cat, do you hear me?

- You two are so clever!

- I gotta say, Sally's
hello hose works great!

- That's because
the sound goes in one end

and all the way
to the other end!

Whoo-hoo!
- [laughs]

- Hey, Sally,
wanna play together?

- Do I?

[both playing instruments]

- Oh, to be carried away

on waves of beautiful music...

[upbeat music]
