is about to appear ♪

♪ He's whizzing over
to whisk you away ♪

♪ On a fabulous journey
today ♪

- He's coming!
- ♪ Now he's arrived

♪ In the Thinga-ma-jigger,
the thing that he drives ♪

♪ He's a cat
and he's oodles of fun ♪

♪ With his hairy helpers,
Thing Two and Thing One ♪

- Whoo-hoo!



- Whoa!



[laughter]



- Whoa!
- Wahoo!

- ♪ It's the Cat in the Hat

♪ All of our adventures
start like that ♪

♪ Wherever you're going,
wherever you're at ♪

♪ The Cat in the Hat
knows a lot about... ♪

- ♪ He knows a lot about,
he knows a lot about ♪

[laughter]

[playful music]



- Almost finished
painting my model plane.

What do you think?

- Looking good, Nick.

And I'm almost done drawing
the lion from my book.

- [sighs]
A nice, quiet afternoon.

[sighs]

- Ah!
- What happened?

- How did you do that?
- Do what?

- Spill my water.

- I didn't touch it.

- Not me.

- Well, I didn't do it.
- Me neither.

Wait, what didn't I do?

- Hi, Cat.

My water glass spilled over
and nobody did it.

- You mean it's a mystery?

Oh, I love mysteries,

they're so mysterious.

- But how do we solve this one?

- Easy sneezy.
With a little help from this.

- Flowers?

- Mm? Oh!
Oopsie, sorry.

Uh, hmm, it was supposed to be
my mystery-solving guide book.

Now where could I have left it?

- Sometimes it helps
to think about

the last place
you saw it.

- A-ha!
You're right.

The last time I had it
was at the Great Causeway.

Would you like to
come with me to get it?

- If it will help us
solve this mystery.

- Your father won't mind
at all if you do.

[upbeat music]

- Dad.
Can Nick and I go

with the Cat in the Hat
to the Great Causeway?

We have to get his
mystery-solving guide book

so we can solve a mystery
in the treehouse.

- Well, there's nothing worse
than an unsolved mystery.

You'd better go.

- We can go,
we can go.

- I know,
I know.

To the Thinga-ma-jigger.

Buckle up.

[horn honks]

[playful music]

[whirs, clicks]

Flip the Jigger-ma-whizzer!

[boing]

[exciting music]



Isn't this fun?

both: Whoo-hoo!

- ♪ Here we go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ The Thinga-ma-jigger
is up and away ♪

both: ♪ Go, go, go,

♪ We're flying
with the Cat in the Hat today ♪

[whimsical music]



- Welcome to
the Great Causeway.

- Come on, Nick.
- Look at this.

- Wow, Cat, I don't know
what this place is,

but it looks
like fun, fun, fun.

- Fun is nice,
but aren't we here

to get that
mystery-solving guide book?

- Yes, and I know exactly
where it is.

This way.
I left it right...

there.
I thought.

- Unless it's invisible,
there's no book here, Cat.

- Maybe somebody took it?

- A-ha!
Another mystery.

- Wait,
look at those footprints.

Maybe whoever took
the guide book went that way.

- You're right, Nick,
those footprints can be a clue.

- You discovered a clue
with just one single look.

You might not even need
that old mystery book.

- We still have to solve
the mystery at home, Cat.

- Right,
let's follow those footprints.

[sneaky music]



The footprints stop here.

Whoever we're following
must've gone up this ramp.

- Good thinking, Nick.
Up this way quick.

[upbeat music]

Whoa.
Why did I go up?

Uh, can you come back here?

Hmm.
Okay.

Now go back.

This isn't a ramp,
it's more like a seesaw.

- I see, so?

- The end that's heavier
goes down,

and the end that's
lighter goes up.

Together you two
are heavier than I am.

- Mystery solved.

- Yes, but it still hasn't
gotten us any closer

to finding out where
the mystery-solving

guide book went.

- No, but those
footprints might.

- Follow those footprints.

[sneaky music]



- Whoever left those
footprints went in here.

Let's go.

[playful music]



[whistle blows]

[giggles]

- What happened?
- I just opened the gate.

- But where did
that ball come from?

- And how did it end up
in this cup?

- Hmm.
A mystery indeed.

- Hmm.
Unless we can find the cause.

- You mean what made it happen?
- Exactly.

- Let's see, you opened
the gate like this...

Oh, it must've bumped
into this hammer thing.

- Right, but where does
the ball come in?

- Well, if the ball
was in this thing,

maybe the hammer made it
go up this pole.

- And it caused the ball to go
down that curvy chute.

- And that made
the whistle blow.

Let's put the ball there
and see what happens

if you swing the gate
open again.

- Oh, I can't wait to see.



[clank, clicking]

[whistle blows]

- It happened again.

So opening the gate
was the cause.

- A-ha! I see.
And the effect?

- You mean what happened next?

- What did happen next?

- The ball went up
to the top of the chute,

and then went down
and landed in the cup,

which made the
whistle blow.

That's the effect.

- Great, but it doesn't
help us find the book.

Remember the book?

- Right, we were
following the footprints,

but now I see too many.

How are we going to follow
footprints when they go off

in every direction?

- It's impossible.

- When the trial's ahead
cause you two to feel blue,

why not see the effect
of Thing One and Thing Two?

[whistles]

both: Whee!

[chattering excitedly]

[playful music]



Hello.

- Can you follow the footprints

and see if they lead you to my
mystery-solving guide book?

both: [chattering happily]



- Whoa.
Wahee!

[rattling]

[thump]



- Thing Two!
- Look out.

- Huh?
Whoa!



- Mm-hmm.
- Wha...?

both: [arguing]

- Thing Two,
it wasn't Thing One's fault.

- We saw it all.
- [whistles]

- Nick, Sally, can you
please explain to the Things

what just happened?
- Sure.

Thing One pulled down
on this rope by mistake,

and that caused
the boot to swing back.

[groans]

- And when he let go,

the boot swung forward

and kicked the ball that was
at the top of the slide.

The effect of kicking the ball

was that it rolled
down the slide.

- And it almost
hit Thing Two

before knocking down
that big blue thing.

both: [chattering happily]

- Well, I'm glad you
figured that out.

Now maybe we can get back
to looking for the book.

- [chatters inquisitively]

both: The book!

both: [chattering excitedly]



[suspenseful music]



- Oh, no, we'll never get it
down from way up there.

- Hmm.
Not so fast, Fish.

Maybe we don't have
to reach it ourselves.

- I don't follow you.

- I think I do.

All we have to do is think
of cause and effect.

- And see how they connect.

- Exactly.

- I still don't see how
they're going to get the book.

- If any team can do the trick,

I'd choose
our Sally and our Nick.

- Just move it a little bit
more this way.

- [grunting, groaning]

Phew.
- There.

I think that'll work perfectly.
We're ready here, Nick.

What about you?

- Ready.
- Okay.

One, two, three, go.

- [chattering excitedly]
Whoo-hoo!

[rattles]

- Sally, Thing Two,
get out of the way.

[playful music]



- We did it!
- Yes, we've got the book.

- Now you can find out

all about solving mysteries
like the one at home.



- Huh?
- Huh?

There's nothing in it.
I don't get it.

- Hmm, uh,

maybe we don't need this book
to solve our mystery.

We just have to look
for the cause.

- Right, Nick.

Let's go see if we can figure
it out on our own.

- To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

[upbeat music]



- Okay, are you ready?
both: Ready.

- We've solved the mystery of
who spilled the glass of water.

- And we're going to show you
how it happened.

- My glass of water was
on the edge of the table

and my model plane box
was over here.

- The ball was here,
just on the edge of the ruler,

which was resting
on this eraser.

Now watch what happens
when I put my book

on this end
of the ruler.

- It's going to cause
the ball to roll,

which causes
the box to fall over.

- And the effect of that is

Nick's glass of water
will spill.

Ready?
- Ready.



[glass clinks, water splashes]

- And that's how it happened.

I spilled the water
[giggles]

without
even knowing it.

- Mystery solved.
- Amazing.

- It's a perfect example
of cause and effect,

and that's why you two
have my total respect.

all: Yay!
[cheering, laughing]



- For everything that happens,
there's one thing to expect.

If you follow every move,

you'll find the cause
and the effect.

- Cause and effect?
- What does that mean?

- Cause is the hand that
is pushing the gate.

The effect is it opening.
Now, isn't that great?

Cause and effect.
See how they connect?

- Cause and effect.

See how they connect.

- The cause is your feet
pushing into the sand.

The effect is your footprints.
Now aren't they grand?

Cause and effect.
See how they connect?

both: Cause and effect.
See how they connect?

- The cause is a pebble
when you drop it in a pool.

The effect is the ripples.
Now aren't they cool?

[cackles]
Cause and effect.

See how they connect?

- The cause is the mallet
drumming on a b*at.

The effect is the sound.

Now, isn't that neat?[laughs]

both: Yeah!

- Cause and effect.

- For everything that happens,
something else will happen too.

If you give a smile to someone,

they will smile
right back at you.

[laughter]

That's how they connect.

[gentle horns playing]



- Sounds good.

- Wait until you
hear the ending.



- [sighs]

Huh?

How'd you do that?
- Lots of practice.

- I meant, my water
was shaking.

- Hmm, I don't see anything.

- It happened while
you were practicing.

Play something.



See?
It did it again.

- Maybe you shook the water.
- Uh-uh.

I was perfectly still.
The water shook me.

- Water can't dance to music.
Can it?

- Mm, I don't think so.

- So what's going on?

What's making
Fish's water move?

- Did someone just
ask a big question?

[cackles]
I love questions.

- Oh, hi, Cat.

What's so great
about questions?

- Great question
Because asking questions

leads to looking for answers.

And looking for answers
is always an adventure.

So, what's the question?
- [giggles]

We want to find out
why Fish's water moves

when we play our instruments.

- Now that is a great question.

And I know the perfect way
to find an answer.

With a visit
to the Jingly Jungle

and the Great Vibrato.

- Who's that?

- Only the most amazing
musician ever.

Lucky for you,
she's doing a concert today.

Maybe you'd like to go see.Or hear.

- Going to a music concert
is always a great idea.

But will it answer
our question.

- Good question.
And there's only one way

to find out.
Your father will not mind

at all if you do.

- Dad, can we go see a concert
by the Great Vibrato

in the Jingly Jungle
with the Cat in the Hat?

- Well, that sounds
spectacular.

- We can go,
we can go.

- I know,
I know.

To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

Buckle up.

the Jingly Jungle.

- Wow, this is incredible.

I've never seen a jungle
like this before.

[birds cawing]

- In the Jingly Jungle,
there's fun to be found,

'cause you never know what
will create a new sound.

- I can't wait to see
the Great Vibrato.

- The concert is taking place
right over...

here.

- Huh, where is everyone?
What happened to the concert?

- Good questions.
- [gasps]

And I found
the answer.

Vibrato is missing and
the concert is cancelled.

- Oh, dear.

- Maybe we can find her.
- Yeah.

Start a search party.
- That's the spirit.

She lives down this way.
Let's start our search there.

[playful music]



[berries jingle]

- [giggles]

I see why it's called
the Jingly Jungle.

Even the berries
make jingly sounds.

- Hello?
Hello?

- [gasps] Listen,
I hear someone.

- Hello? Hello?
Is somebody there?

- It's coming from somewhere
near that big mushroom.

[spirited music]

- I don't see anyone.

Where are you?

- Up here.
Way, way, way up.

- It's--[grunts]--too--
[grunts]--high to see.

- Are you okay up there?

- Would you be okay if you were
flipped upside down

on a mushroom
and couldn't get up?

- How did you get flipped over?

- I was stretching my wings
before my performance,

and I just got carried away.

Next thing I knew,
I was flipped on my back.

- Vibrato, is that you?

- Is that the Cat?
The Cat in the Hat?

- Your number one fan.
[cackles]

And I even brought
a few new fans,

Nick, Sally, and Fish.

- Hang on, Vibrato.
We'll save you.

Whoa.

Ew, it's too slippery to climb.

How are we going
to rescue Vibrato?

- Good question.

- Why don't you just fly up
in the Thinga-ma-jigger?

- Good idea.

- The Jingly Jungle is much
too jungley for that.

- Good point.
- [gasps] I know.

What if we throw her
a safety line?

One of these vines would reach.

[vine resonates]

Whoa-ho-ho.
That's so cool.

- What's cool?

[voice trembling]
Eh-eh-eh-whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh.

- Aw, why did you make it stop?

- The sound stopped
when the vine stopped moving.

- So where did the sound go?
- Another good question.

- I think I know.

[vine resonates]

The vine only makes a sound
when it's moving, see?

[vine resonates]

- Interesting answer.

So, the sound and the vibration
happen together

and stop together.

- Vibration?

That's what you call it
when something shakes

back and forth?
- And forth and back.

[giggles]
That's vibration for you.

- Vibration sounds
kind of like Vibrato.

- Ahem,
speaking of me,

weren't you supposed to be
forming a rescue plan?

- Yes, Vibrato, but how can we
get up that high to help you?

- When you're rescuing someone
who's not in your view,

who better to call than
Thing One and Thing Two?

[whistles]

both: Whoo-hoo!

Doot-do-do-do.

[chattering excitedly]

[upbeat music]

Hello.

- Can you see a way to rescue
our friend way up there?

both: [chattering happily]



- Oh.
[groans]

Oh, a-ha.

[chattering happily]

Hmm, a-ha!

- Ooh.
[grunts]

Whoa, whoa, whoa.
[giggles]

[chattering happily]
[drum resonates]

[trembling chatter]

- [laughs]
That big boom

sure rattled the Things.

- Don't worry,
the vibrations will only happen

as long as the sounds do.

both: Ooh.
Yippee.

[drum resonates]
[trembling chatter]

- Whoo-hoo!
Look at those Things move.

- And listen to them boom.

- It's like the vines.

The sounds and the vibrations
happen together.

- Maybe you can't have
one without the other.

- Sound and vibration.

- Vibration and sound.

[gasps]
Hey.

Maybe we can use sound and
vibration to rescue Vibrato.

- Finally, they remembered me.

- Look, if we make sounds on
the mushroom, it'll vibrate.

[mushroom rumbles]

- And that'll make
Vibrato vibrate too.

Maybe enough to bounce
her off her back.

- I like the sound of that.

- Perhaps these
rat-a-tat-tatters will help?

- They're perfect.

Vibrato, get ready to move.

- I am so ready.

[rhythmic drumming]

Whoa.
I'm bouncing.

- It's working.

The sound vibrations
are moving the mushroom.

- And Vibrato.

- I'm bouncing.

But I'm still on my back.

- Drum harder.
[giggles]

- Whoa, whoo!

Whoa, wow, I'm moving more.

Whee!
Ooh.

- Oh, hello.
[cackles]

- Thank you for rescuing me.

How can I ever repay you?

[gasps]
Wait, I know.

How about front row tickets
to my concert?

- Oh, you didn't know?

Your concert got cancelled
because you were missing.

- Cancelled?

Oh.
Well, I have to do something.

A-ha! How about a special
concert just for you?

- Oh, you really don't have to,
but please, would you?



[wings fluttering]

[light ringing]

[jingling]



[water sloshes]



all: [cheering]
- Yeah!

Thanks for the concert,
Vibrato.

- Any time.
Thanks for rescuing me.

I'll be careful where I do
my stretches from now on.

[laughter]

- That was the best concert
and adventure ever.

- And all from one
simple question.

- Right, why Fish's water moved
when we played out instruments.

- [gasps] Sally forgot to ask
Vibrato for the answer.

- That's okay.

Now I know it was
the sound vibrations

from our instruments
that moved Fish's water.

- It was?

[trumpet plays]

[giggles]
It was!

- Just like Vibrato's concert
made everything

in the Jingly Jungle move.

- So in a way, fish's water
was dancing to the music,

because of vibrations.

- All those good vibrations.

[laughter]
