01x17 - I Want Cake

Post by bunniefuu »

Hey, is this thing on? Ha ha.

* Hey, sid
what do you say?

What you want
to learn today?

I want to know
why things

Happen and how
and I want to know

Everything now
oh, yeah

How does this thing work?

Why does that stuff change?

How does that do what it just
did? *

Hmm.

* What's up with the sky?

You think I could fly?

The world is spinning
and I want to know why

I've got a lot of questions
and big ideas

I'm sid the science kid *
[captioning made possible by

The jim henson company
and friends of nci]

Ha ha! Whoo! Boing. Hi! I'm
sid, and I'm so excited, super

Excited. Ha ha. You want to
know why? Because today is my

Birthday! Hoo hoo hoo! Yeah! You
know what I like best about

Birthdays? Birthday cake! Oh,
yeah. Cake is so yummy, so

Tasty, so delicious, so
cake-a-licious. Oh, hey, you

Know what I want on my cake? A
big dinosaur made out of

Frosting. Whoo hoo hoo! Hey,
wait a minute. I just thought

Of something. Why wait until
your birthday to have birthday

Cake, huh? I mean, why not eat
cake for breakfast, lunch, and

Dinner, huh? Hey, why don't
parents just let us eat cake all

The time? I just got to know.

Why can't I eat cake every day?

[Echoing]
sid, breakfast time.

Oh, boy! Got to go eat cake!

Ha ha ha! Watcha! Oh, boy.

Breakfast time!

Oh, look who's here.

Hey, it's the birthday boy.

That's me.

Oh, say "happy birthday,"
zekey.

[Babbling]
[laughter]

Pretty close.

Hey, guess what, sid. Since
it's your birthday today, you

Get to decide what we're gonna
have for dinner tonight.

It's your special birthday
meal. How about mom's jumbo

Gumbo?

Or dad's dynamo dumpling
delight?

Actually, I know exactly what
I want. Cake!

Well, of course. You'll have
a birthday cake after dinner.

No, no, no. I mean I want to
have cake every day for

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Just cake?

Actually, birthday cake with
a dinosaur on top made out of

Frosting. Pretty good idea, huh?

Good idea? I don't think so.

Me either. You know, cake has
a lot of sugar in it, and that's

Not so good for you.

Yeah, but cake is so yummy.

Yeah. I mean, maybe I should
create a new land where it's ok

To eat cake every day. And I
shall be the king. Hello, all ye

People in cake land. I am sid,
king of cake. I order everyone

To eat cake every day.

Not gonna do it. Too much
sugar.

Ok. Fine. How about cupcakes?

Mmm, sorry, your highness.

Too much sugar.

Little cookies shaped like
cake?

Too much sugar!

Oh, there's got to be a way
to eat cake every day. After

Breakfast, king sid shall
investigate more at school.

Great idea. And you can think
about what you'd like for your

Special birthday meal.

Oh, yeah!

Something with cake.

[Music plays]
* I love my mom

Uh-huh
my mom is cool

Uh-huh
but now it's time

For having fun in school
yeah! *

[Alice chuckles]
hi!

[New song plays]
* I'm looking for my friends

I'm looking for you
there's gabriela

Watch what I can do
ha ha, yeah

Ready, set, go
wow

I'm looking for my friends
I'm looking for you

Hey, there's gerald
yeah

Check out my moves
ha ha, I'm a rock star

Yeah
ah--awesome

Cool
yeah

I'm looking for my friends
I'm looking for you

Hey, there's may
may I show you

How I groove?

Uh-huh
ooh-wee

Ooh
groovy

We're looking for our friends
we're looking for you

Hey, there's sid *
did you hear the one about

The kid who wanted to know
everything about everything?

* That's you
ah, you got me

[Laughter]
[kids hum]

* We're looking for our
friends and look who we found

We found each other
friends *

[Music stops]
[laughter]

And now it's time for the sid
survey. Hello. I am sid, roving

Reporter with today's survey.

The question--what would happen
if you ate cake for breakfast,

Lunch, and dinner? And you can
think about what would happen if

You only ate cake, too. Let's go
get some answers. Hey there,

May. I have a question. What
would happen if you ate cake for

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Cake for every meal? I don't
think your tummy would feel too

Good. Oh...

Hmm. That doesn't sound good.

Anyway, you know what? I
actually don't like cake.

What? You don't like cake?

No. I'm not really into cake
and cookies and stuff, but I do

Like grilled cheese.

Hey, I like that, too.

Thanks, may.

You're welcome.

Ahoy there, captain
gabriela.

Ahoy, sid.

I have a question for you.

What would happen if you ate
cake for breakfast, lunch, and

Dinner?

Wow. Well, I once saw a whole
bunch of ants eating a piece of

Cake at a picnic. They really
liked it, so maybe eating cake

All day is a good idea.

I like that answer.

Thanks.

Thank you. Happy sailing.

Oh, hey there, gerald.

Oh, hi, sid.

I've got a big question for
you. What would happen if you

Ate cake for breakfast, lunch,
and dinner?

Oh, when I eat lots of cake,
I run around and around and

Around and around, and then I
get tired and plop down.

That's good to know. Thanks,
gerald.

No problem.

And now the results of my
survey. May says if she only ate

Cake, her tummy would hurt.

Gabriela says ants like cake, so
maybe it wouldn't be so bad. And

Gerald said he would run around
and then plop down. And there

You have it. I am sid, roving
reporter and cake expert.

Everybody, rug time.

That's teacher susie.

* It's rug time
come on in

Rug time
take a seat

Rug time
we are ready

Everybody move your feet
rug time

Teacher susie
good times on the way

Rug time, come on in
we've got a lot

To learn today *
[humming]

Hee ha! I'm a dancing cowboy.

[Laughter]
hey there, dancing cowboy.

Come on, dance over here.

Ok. [Humming]
yippie ki yay, partners!

And a big happy birthday to sid!

Yay!

All right, it's sid's
birthday today. You get to wear

The special birthday crown.

Yay!

Happy birthday, sid!

Thank you.

Sid, do you have a special
birthday wish you'd like to

Share?

I sure do. My wish is that
every day I can eat cake for

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Uh-oh. Your tummy isn't going
to be very happy. How about a

Grilled cheese sandwich instead?

Oh, hmm, well, I do like
grilled cheese a lot, but, um,

Cake is just so really, really
yummy! Hey, susie, don't you

Want to eat birthday cake every
day, too?

Well, I do like birthday
cake, but it isn't exactly a

Nutritious food.

Nutritia-what now?

Nutritious foods have all the
things in them that will help

You grow strong and healthy.

Oh, oh, and when you're
strong and healthy, you can do

This.

* Hey
wow.

And when you're strong and
healthy, you can do this.

* Da da da
I'm twirling.

Hey, I want to go la la la la
la, too. What kinds of foods are

Nutritious?

Great question, gerald, and I
know the perfect place to

Investigate nutritious foods!

In the super fab lab!

That's right. Grab your
journals and let's go.

Yay!

Super fab lab.

Investigate, explore, discover!

Wow.

For this investigation, I'd
like everyone to go get your

Lunch boxes and bring them back
to the table.

All right!

This investigation sounds
yummy.

Ok, come right on back.

All right.

It's new and it's red.

Ok, scientists. The best way
to eat a nutritious meal is to

Eat a little bit from each food
group every day, and I bet we'll

Find all the food groups in
your lunches.

Ok.

I have a sandwich.

Cheese.

Tuna.

Um, hey, wait a minute. I see
fruits and vegetables, meats and

Chicken, milk and yogurt, breads
and pastas but no cake.

Oh, sid, it's ok to have cake
every once in a while, just not

Every day for every meal.

Oh. Yes! I can have cake
sometimes.

Now let's take out the food
from your lunch boxes and place

Everything into the different
food groups, and when you're

Done, you can each draw a
picture of a nutritious meal in

Your journal.

Ok.

You're scientists. You can
try this, too.

It's important to eat a
little bit from each food

Group--the fruits and vegetables
group; the breads, crackers, and

Pasta group; the dairy group;
and the meats, chicken, and

Fish group. I bet we'll find all
the food groups in your lunches.

Yogurt goes on the dairy plate.

The apple goes with the fruits
and vegetables. The crackers

Belong in the bread group. Grape
juice goes with the fruits and

Vegetables, and tuna fish. Hmm.

Right. It goes with the fish,
chicken, and meats group. And

The rest of the vegetables go
right here. What else do we

Have? Oh, a ham sandwich has
meat and bread. You can put it

In either group. Ok, the bread
group. The orange goes in the

Fruits and vegetables group. The
cheese goes in the dairy group.

The carrots are vegetables, and
where does the milk go?

Hmm, are you sure it goes with
the bread group? Ah, you're

Right. It goes with the dairy
group. Let's keep going.

Vegetables go here, cheese with
the dairy, fruit over here, and

The bread from the turkey
sandwich goes over here. Now

Take out your journals and draw
a picture of a nutritious meal

That has a little bit from each
food group.

Good job. Eating nutritious food
is a great way to stay healthy.

Ok, now that your food's put
away, let's take a look at your

Journals and see what kinds of
nutritious meals you drew. Ok,

Birthday boy, would you like to
go first?

Oh, sure. I drew a nutritious
birthday meal. Here's a little

Bit of mashed potatoes, a little
bit of peas and a little bit of

Mom's jumbo gumbo, and my super
duper giant piece of birthday

Cake.

Wow. That's a big piece of
birthday cake, but it is your

Birthday.

Yeah.

Ok, gerald, let's see your
journal.

Yeah, ok. So I drew a
sandwich with a little bit of

Spinach, celery, apples, cheese,
cucumbers, turkey, orange,

Lettuce and chicken, and you can
eat a whole nutritious meal in

One big bite.

Cool.

What a creative sandwich,
gerald.

Thank you.

Well, I am impressed with all
my scientists. You know so much

About eating healthy, nutritious
foods. I think it's time to play

With all your new ideas.

Yay!

Let's go.

It's time for--
good laughternoon!

[Laughter]
hey, may.

Yes?

Why do we put candles on top
of a birthday cake?

I don't know. Why?

Because it's too hard to put
them on the bottom.

Ha ha ha!

Hey, sid.

Yes?

What do you give a -pound
gorilla for his birthday?

I don't know. What do you
give a -pound gorilla for

His birthday?

I don't know, but you better
hope he likes it.

Ha ha ha!

Sid.

Yes?

I don't have a joke.

Oh.

But I have a song.

Ok.

* Happy, happy, happy
birthday to you

Happy, happy, happy birthday to
you

Happy, happy, happy
birthday... *

That's really nice.

Day... *
Um...

That's it. I'm done. Happy
birthday, sid.

Happy birthday, sid.

Thanks, guys. Now, that is a
birthday song.

[Recorded laughter]
it's time to play pretend.

Once upon a time, there was a
king who ruled over the land of

Sidville.

Ha ha!

On his birthday, the king
decided that everyone would eat

Cake all day long.

I hereby declare that we're
gonna eat cake every day.

Gerald the jester in a chef's
hat was happy.

Ha ha ha!

Scientist gabriela wasn't
sure that was a good idea.

Pardon me, mr. King, but you
need to eat a little from each

Food group every day.

No way. Cake is yummy. Now
let the eating of cake begin!

Yeah!

Meanwhile, scientist gabriela
ate a little bit from each food

Group.

Uh.

Uh, now I'm too stuffed full
of cake to be king.

No problem. I feel great. I
rule!

The end.

Uh...

* La la la la la
and now...

It's time...

For susie...

To sing!

Go, susie!

Why, thank you. You know,
we've talked a lot about the

Nutritious foods in our lunch
boxes, but did you know that

People all over the world eat
all different kinds of foods?

Wow.

Do you want to hear her sing
about how yummy we are?

Yeah!

Ok.

Ladies and gentlemen, here they
are from all over the world, the

Delicious, nutritious band!

World
you know that we're delicious

International flavors

Ha ha ha!

I want to pretend I'm a food,
too.

Ja, I'm a frankenfurter. Yummy.

Hey, sid. Happy birthday to you.

Ja.

Thanks.

Hey, that reminds me. It's
time for a special birthday

Celebration.

Ooh.

Come on up here, sid.

Ok.

Everyone gets to tell sid
their special birthday wish.

Cool.

Sid, I wish that you get a
really yummy birthday cake.

Thanks, gerald.

I wish that you get really
cool toys, then invite me over

To play with you.

Thanks, gabriela.

I wish you have the best
birthday ever, and here are some

Magical sparkles to help.

Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle,
whoosh.

Oh, may, thank you. And guess
what. Your wish came true. This

Is my best birthday ever.

Wow.

Sid, I hope you have a
wonderful, special birthday.

Thank you, teacher susie.

Ok, scientists, time to go
home.

Yay!

I like those magical
sparkles.

Oh, hold on a second. Forgot
this.

Aw, thanks, birthday boy.

You're welcome.

Let's go.

Now, where's my sid?

Right here, grandma.

Oh!

Now, okey doke, let's roll.

Let's roll!

[Music playing]
whoo!

Yeah.

* Back seat driving
with grandma, yeah *

Well, happy birthday to my
sid.

Thanks, grandma.

So, what are you gonna have
for your special birthday meal?

Well, I did want to have just
cake, but now I want a

Nutritious meal. I hope mom and
dad went to the grocery store.

I hope they did, too. But
imagine if we didn't have a

Grocery store to buy our food.

What?

You know, a long time ago,
people didn't have grocery

Stores.

No way!

Yes! They used to find all
the nutritious

Food they needed right on their
very own farm.

Wow.

Yes. People used to grow
their own vegetables, squeeze

Oranges for juice, fish in a
nearby pond, and get milk from a

Cow. Moo. Ha ha ha! And you
know, there are still people in

Some places that grow and make
all their own food for every

Meal.

Wow.

Yes.

You know so much cool stuff,
grandma.

Oh, thanks, birthday boy.

I love my grandma.

[Music plays]
* I learned something cool

Something cool today
I know it upside down

And inside out
I learned all about

[Grandma chuckles]
nutritious food!

Scientist in the house!

[Recorded applause]
wow. These birthday decorations

Are so cool.

Woo. Birthday boy in the
house.

Hey, how's the birthday boy?

Oh, I mean the king of cake.

Well, actually, I don't want
to eat just cake for dinner

Anymore. I want to eat a
nutritious birthday meal.

Wow. Good for you, sid.

Yeah. So I'd like a little
bit of mashed potatoes and a

Little bit of peas and a glass
of milk and some of mom's jumbo

Gumbo.

My jumbo gumbo? I'm
flattered. Oh, sweetie, I want

To show you something. Ta-da!

Wow! Wow, my birthday cake!

That is one snazzy cake.

I love it. Oh, boy, and it's
got a dinosaur on top made out

Of blueberries. That's even
better than frosting. Yum.

Hey, I've got an idea.

What do you say we eat that
blueberry dinosaur right now?

Then after dinner we can have
the rest of the cake.

That sounds good to me.

I love blueberries.

Delicious.

Bbbb-berries!

Don't worry, zeke. You get a
blueberry, too. Wow.

Blueberries.

Wow. I had the greatest day
today. Whoo hoo! We celebrated

My birthday at school and
learned that you got to eat a

Little bit from each food group,
and it's important that the

Foods you eat are nutritious.

Whatcha! So I've been thinking.

How do you make sure every meal
is nutritious? Hmm. Ok, I've got

It. Here's my super duper ooper
schmooper big idea. I'm going to

Invent the a*t*matic nutritious
mealmaker. You just push a

Button and the perfect amount of
spaghetti and sauce comes out.

And how about some veggies? Ta
da. You got carrots and

Broccoli. But wait, there's
more. A baked potato. Yummy. And

For dessert, you push this giant
dessert button.

And you get the biggest bowl of
fruit salad ever, with whipped

Cream on top. Wow. The a*t*matic
nutritious mealmaker is the

Greatest invention ever. And
that's my super duper ooper

Schmooper big idea.

[Recorded applause]
hey, thank you for celebrating

My birthday with me. It was
totally the greatest birthday

I've ever had in my whole life!

Hey, I bet you have a birthday
soon, too, so happy birthday to

You from me, sid, the science
kid [echoing]. And remember,

Keep asking lots and lots of
questions. See you later,

Scientists. Ahh.

I love birthdays more than
anything in the whole world.

Wow!
