pulley investigation. Your

Challenge is to find the easiest
way to lift this heavy bucket of

Balls from down here to way
up there. Ooh, it looks like

It's too heavy to lift.

Oh, no, the balls fell out.

There must be an easier way to
lift the bucket. Let's try tying

A rope around the bucket, then
hand the rope to your friends up

Top. Then you can try lifting
the bucket while your friends

Pull it up.

That's easier, but the bucket is
still too heavy to lift it all

The way to the top.

Now try using a pulley to lift
the bucket up to the top. A

Pulley is a simple machine that
can make lifting heavy things

Much easier. Ok, put the rope
through the pulley and pass it

Back down to your friends.

Careful, don't stand under the
bucket. And now grab hold of the

Rope and pull down on it. Wow,
it's working. You're lifting up

The heavy bucket. Now you can
reach the bucket of balls.

Good job! Let's make some
observations in your journals.

You can draw pictures of the
different ways you tried to lift

Up the heavy bucket.

the easiest way to lift the
