Fly over to get the ball.

Through the air

Really bouncy hair ♪

My super sid kick is so amazing,

I can kick the ball anywhere!

Oh, ooh. Watch this. I can kick

The ball so it lands right in

Front of that tree.

Mmm, I thought I could kick the

Ball wherever I wanted to.

Really good for kicking a ball

So it goes really fast and

Kicking it so it goes just a

Little bit.

Well, how did you kick the ball

When it went really far?

Hmm, well, I kicked it hard

Are so many things to discover

And explore.

Ooh, can we explore what

Makes things move? Because this

Morning I was pretending to be

Super sid, and when I kicked

The ball with lots of oomph,

The ball went really fast and

Super-duper far.

Oh, what an interesting

Discovery, sid. You know, the

Word scientists use for "oomph"

Is "force."

Oh, force.

So, just like you discovered,

If you use lots of force to move

Something, it moves really fast

And really far.

Ooh! Ooh, yeah! Because we

Were investigating how the swing

Over there moves a lot when you

Push it with lots of--of--wait,

Um, what was that word again?

Force.

Oh, yeah! Force!

What a great investigation.

Well, you'’re all going to love

Investigate force. Come on.

Welcome to the science

Center. This is called the

Exploration room, so let'’s

Explore and investigate force.

Who can tell me about your force

Investigation on the playground?

Ooh! Oh, I can! So, ok, I sat

On the swing like this. Yeah.

And then may pushed me with

A little bit of force.

[Giggles]

Right, and then he moved just

A teeny, tiny bit.

And then I pushed gerald with

Lots of force.

Yeah, and he went really high

In the air.

Yeah, and I went really fast,

Too, like this. I'’m going up!

Whee! I'’m going down! I'm going

Back up! Wow! I'’m going back

Down!

Interesting. So who provided

The force in your investigation?

Um...oh, oh, we did.

Yeah, yeah, we pushed gerald.

Very good, and here at the

Science center, we can do

Another investigation to observe

What happens when we use a

Little or a lot of force.

Are we going to push someone

In a swing?

Nope. Instead of using

Yourselves as the force, we'’re

Going to use that.

[Orchestral fanfare]

Wow! Neat-o!

That'’s really huge.

What do you do with it?

This is called an air cannon.

Oh!

It launches tennis balls like

This one way up into the sky

Out of this...tube. Whoosh!

And here'’s the best part: you

Can pump air into the cannon

With this handle.

Cool!

Neat!

If you pump in a little air,

It creates a little bit of force

And the ball doesn'’t sh**t out

Very fast.

Oh, yeah, so it won'’t go

Very far.

You'’re right, sid. But what

Happens if I pump up the cannon

With lots of air and create

A lot of force?

Oh, I know. The ball will fly

Out really fast and go really

Far into the sky.

Oh! Oh! Like this. Vroom!

That'’s right. Sound like fun?

Yeah!

Ok, let the first

Investigation begin.

Yay!

Hey, you'’re a scientist.

You can try this, too.

It'’s time for the first

Investigation with this giant

Tennis ball air cannon. First,

Load a tennis ball into the air

Cannon. Next, pump up the cannon

Two times. Pumping the cannon

Just a little will create

A little bit of force. Ok, time

To launch the tennis ball.

With just a little bit of force,

The tennis ball traveled this

Far. Now, let'’s try pumping up

The air cannon times, so the

Tennis ball launches with more

Force. Ok, launch that tennis

Ball. Wow! With more force, the

Tennis ball traveled even

Farther.

Now let'’s pump up the air cannon

Times, so the ball launches

With lots of force.

Here it goes. Look at that!

The tennis ball went so far, it

Hit the top of the ceiling and

Fell down! Ok, now let'’s try

Something really fun. You want

To figure out how much force to

Use to launch a tennis ball so

It hits this target. How many

Times do you think we should

Pump up the cannon to reach the

Target? One time? Ok, let'’s

Investigate.

Hmm, it didn'’t go far enough.

Looks like you need more force.

You want to try pumps? Let'’s

Keep investigating. Uh-oh. That

Was too much force. How many

Pumps would create the perfect

Amount of force? Two pumps?

Let'’s try it. Ready, and launch

The ball.

You did it! You hit the target!

Great job, scientists. You'’re

Our force experts.

Mmm. I ate all my lunch. Now

Super sid has lots of energy.

Ha ha ha! Go, super sid!

Why, yes, I can, gabriela.

[All clamoring]

Ok! Super sid wants to hear

Your new superhero names.

I am super go-go gabriela.

I am super mighty may.

And I am gerald, the ham

Sandwich.

What?

Huh?

Oh, yeah. See, I'’m still

Hungry because I didn'’t all my

Lunch.

Ok. Well, super go-go

Gabriela and super mighty may...

Yay!

And gerald the ham sandwich,

Those giant rocks are headed

Right toward earth!

Oh, no!

We must use our super powers

To kick those rocks out of the

Way with lots of force.

Yeah.

Ready your super power kicks.

Ok.

And go!

[All grunting]

Kicking with lots of force!

Take that!

Go! Go!

Oh, no! There'’s one more

Giant rock and it'’s really,

Really big!

We have to kick with lots

And lots and lots of force.

Teacher susie about our game.

Superheroes.

Force to kick giant space rocks

Out of the way so they didn'’t

Hit the earth.

A giant ball?

It was amazing!

We investigated force. Did you

Know that using lots of force

Makes something move super fast

And really far?

Oh, yeah, I know a thing or

Two about force. I learned about

It while playing my favorite

Game. When I was a little girl,

I was a champion at the game of

Marbles. Whoo hoo! I was good.

Ha ha ha! When you play the

Game, you use your thumb to

Flick a marble so it hits and

Moves another marble out of the

Way. Yeah! And I had a special

Move I called the

Flicker-oozy-doozy. Ooh! I used

My thumb to flick a marble as

Hard as I could, with lots of

Force, and it would send that

Old marble super fast, zoom, and

Smash right into another marble,

Knocking it out of the way.

That'’s the move that made me

A marble champion. That'’s right.

I never lost my marbles. Ha ha

Ha ha! Whoa ho! Grandma'’s funny.

Yes, you are. And, grandma,

Hearing your story gave me a

Great idea.

Oh.

I love soccer and you love

Marbles, so let'’s make up a new

Game that has a little of both

The games we love.

That grandma and I made up.

It'’s called marble-ball.

Oh, yeah. It combines my

Favorite game, marbles, with

I took a bus to the science

Center and investigated force.

Ha ha ha! Yeah, I learned that

A lot of force makes something

Move super fast and really far!

Hey, I just thought of

Something. What if you wanted

To make something move really,

Really, really, really far?

Ok, I'’ve got it! Here's my

Super-duper-uper-schmooper big

Idea! I'’m going to invent the

Best amusement-park ride in the

Whole world. It'’s called the

Fun force rocket ride. It'’s a

Rocket ride that is powered by

Force. It'’ll have a big club,

Kind of like a golf club. Then,

If you want the ride to move

Slowly, then the giant club will

Swing back just a little and

Then, bonk! Into the rocket with

A little bit of force. Boink.

Whee, that'’s fun! But if you

Want to move really far, then

You'’ll need lots of force, so

The giant club will swing all

The way back and then really

Smack into the rocket ship with

Lots of force. Bonk!

Hold on tight. The fun force

Rocket ride will be the best

Ride in the whole world.

Whoo hoo! And that'’s my

Super-duper-uper-schmooper big

Idea! Yay!

[Canned applause]

Ha ha! Ah, hey, dr. Beaks, here

Comes a little bit of force.

Ka-ching. Ok, now here comes a

Whole bunch of force. Ka-ching!

And I should know because I am
