This is me, eliza thornberry.

Part of your average family.

I got a dad, a mom,
and a sister.

There is donnie-- we found him.

And darwin?
He found us.

( Jabbering )

Oh, yeah, about our house--
it moves.

'Cause we travel
all over the world.

You see, my dad hosts
this nature show

And my mom sh**t it.

Okay, so we're not that average.

( Panting )

And between you and me

Something amazing happened...

And now I can talk to animals.

It's really cool

But totally secret.

And you know what?

Life's never been the same.

And nickelodeon]

( Donnie babbles )

( Jabbering... )

No, donnie;
debbie music.

Debbie ignore.

Debbie no
teach english!

( Jabbering... )

Oh, be quiet!

Oh, be quiet!

Oh, be quiet!

( Shouts )

Oh, be quiet!

Oh, be quiet!

( Nigel talking... )

Let's go out and see

What mom and
dad are doing?

Aren't you supposed to
be doing your homework?

I'm done.

Eliza!

( Elephant trumpeting... )

( Gasps )

( In hushed tones ):
the elephant we have tracked

Lies hidden in the bush.

All day this solitary female
has eluded our camera.

Cautiously we approach.

Hi.

( Stamping foot )

( Trumpeting )

( Shrieking... ):

Eliza!

( Panting )

Are you all right?

Yeah.

Let's get back
to camp.

( Heavy metal playing )

Oh, ooh!

( Music continues )

( Volume blasting )

( Yelling ):
ahh!

Oh, be quiet!

( Growls )

I've never seen elephants

Quite as skittish
as the ones around here.

You mustn't be too hard
on the girl, marianne.

What are we going
to do, nigel?

I promised the foundation

Some dynamite close-up
footage of elephants.

You need to get close
to some elephants, don't you?

That is the general plan.

Then that's what
you shall have.

Right, elephants it is.

Marianne:
gorongo game preserve!

Oh, I didn't realize
we were this far north.

Look at all the elephants!

It's perfect!

It's a prison.

I say!

It's jomo!

Nigel thornberry.

The scourge
of merton college.

Don't tell me, this must be the
famous marianne thornberry.

I am a tremendous fan
of your camera work.

Debbie, eliza, this
is dr. Jomo umbeli

Gamekeeper here at
the gorongo preserve.

( Chuckling ):
we were roommates
back at oxford.

And a chimp.

The tourists just
love chimpanzees

Are you leaving
him here?

Darwin's not staying here.

It's cruel to keep
animals caged up like this.

I wish the elephants,
the rhinos

I wish they could
all run free

But I'm afraid the savanna's
thick with poachers.

People who would
do these animals harm.

So, sadly, we keep them here
behind an electrified fence.

Electric fence?
That's so mean.

A necessary evil.

And the shock
is not very strong.

( Electric sizzling )

( Someone yells )

( Zebras whinnying )

Donnie!

( Groaning )

Oh!

( Yelping, sizzling )

Eliza:
donnie!

And this must be
the little wild boy

You wrote about in
your last letter.

Fascinating.

Hear that, weed?

Somebody thinks
you're fascinating.

( Jabbers )

( Trumpeting )

Poor animals, they must
hate it here.

I wish there were
something I could do.

Don't you dare.

The savanna is
crawling with poachers.

In the last three days
we were camped out

Did you see a poacher?
No.

Eliza, look at me!

I'm an animal and I'm
inside the fence, look!

Look how happy I am.

Yeah, well, you're a...

Oh, never mind.

How about that elephant
over there, huh?

The young one?

She doesn't look
happy at all.

Where are you going?

I'm going to poke around.

Maybe find that elephant,
the one who looked so bummed.

( Chattering )

You can't
just walk out.

Aren't you
watching donnie?

Nope, debbie is.

She's supposed to be
teaching him english.

( Gasps )

That's the new issue of
teenage wasteland.

( Yelling )

Wait!

Uh, stop!

My name is debbie thornberry.

My father is on tv.

You're nigel thornberry's
daughter?

Yes, and I need this jeep.

I have to do important
nature show stuff.

I think I should
clear this.

( Yelling ):
get out!

( Tires screeching )

Debbie!

Uh, what?!

You can't leave!

What about donnie's
english lesson?

Repeat after me:
"we're out of here!"

You coming or not?

I can't believe you
think this is fun.

( Trumpeting... )

Shh!

Ahh!

( Hushed ):
behind me, a herd of females
and their young.

We must approach them quietly.

Man:
nigel thornberry!

Me and the missus
watch you on satellite.

Honey, come here.

( Camera clicking )

Name's bob checko, d.d.s.

( Chuckles )

Let me see those teeth.

( Moans ):
oh.

Yee-haw!

( Screeching to halt )

All right! Where's
the girl who was reading

This month's copy
of teenage wasteland?

( Whining ):
come on!

I'm hungry for
some beauty news!

Wer ist dieses fraulein?

( Motor humming )

( Gasps )

( Tires screeching )

Look, darwin, there she is!

( Soft trumpet toot )

Wait!

I just have a question!

Never mind the question.

Please just tell eliza

How wonderful life is
here in the preserve.

You kidding? It's lousy!

I knew it!

See darwin, see?!

Nobody really
wants to be here.

Ostriches like it

But they don't
know any better

And all
the old animals

Think it's great,
but I hate it.

Boy, I know what you mean.

I bet it's your mother.

Says you should be happy here.

No, my mother
isn't here;

She's out
beyond the fence

Doing whatever she wants.

That's where I should be--
with her.

Then let's get you
out of here.

Oh, no, let's not.

Come on, it'll be fun.

Meet us near the gate
at dusk.

We'll get you out of here
and we'll find your mother.

You will?!

I don't get "fun."

I don't get "fun"
at all!

Thanks for the mag!

Check it out, jungle boy

"Ten new tears
for old blue jeans."

Donnie?!

Oh, man!

( Babbling )

( Imitating
electrical sizzling )

( Yelping, jabbering )

( Jabbering excitedly )

( Screeching to halt )

Bzz, bzz, bzz...

( Trilling wildly )

What was that?

That's, that's...

The missing link.

( Tires squealing )

I can't believe
you told that elephant

You'd sneak her
out of here.

Relax, darwin

It'll be fun.

You and this
"f-f-fun" thing again!

We're talking the savanna!

At night!

I've been there, eliza: not fun!

In fact, almost
completely fun-free!

We just need a plan.

You'll never get
permission to leave

And wander around
by yourself.

Oh, you're right,
not after this morning.

( Honking )

( Screeches to halt )

Donnie's escaped!

You lost him?!

No, I didn't lose him,
he escaped!

But I'm going to find him.

I just need you to cover for me.

Can you do that, dweebilo?

Tell mom... I don't know,
I went somewhere--

I met some kids or something.

Okay.

I owe you.

( Tires squeal )

Wait a minute!

( Jabbering excitedly... )

( Engine starts )

( Frightened yelping )

Oh, I don't have
a single close-up, nigel.

No, I take that back.

I have one beautiful sh*t--
of that dentist from nebraska.

Nigel, where are the girls?

Eliza's note says
they met some kids

Who invited them
to a barbecue or something.

( Mumbling )...
"Gone till late."

I guess they won't be
joining us for dinner.

I'm glad they met
some kids their own age.

Dinner?

With jomo.

Don't you remember?

He said he was
going to thaw out

A special brace
of kippers!

Oh. Nigel

Would you mind

If I didn't go
to jomo's with you?

I'm pretty b*at.

Oh, but of course,
my darling.

You can stay here
and rest.

Toodle-oo, then.

Uh, toodle... Loo.

You know, I think
I'm beginning to get

This sneaking
around thing.

I've been rather quiet,
don't you think?

Until a second ago.

( Trumpet toot )

Darwin, there she is.

( Elephant trumpets )

Eliza, I have
the funniest feeling.

I-i can't tell you what it is,
but I

Oh, I feel all atwitter!

I mean, this should be
unpleasant being out here

B-b-but that's not
the way I feel.

You're having fun, darwin.

There's a guard
watching the gate.

If we distract him
we have a chance.

Distract the guard?

Would that be fun, too?

Yes, I think it would!

I'll go!

( Tuning radio )

( Chattering )

( Laughing )

Funny monkey.

( Chattering )

Like the shiny keys?

( Continues chattering... )

Hey!

Darwin, would you
come on?!

Here I come.

( Passengers yelling )

Hey, I'm looking for a wild
little kid with crazy hair.

You seen him?

No, but everyone else has.

They say it is
the missing link.

It is missing, but it's no link.

We shall catch it
and ship it

To the university
in nairobi.

Oh, man!

Come on, I know you're out here.

( Calling out ):
donnie!

( Scottish bagpipes playing )

( Chomping greedily )

Nigel, this thing
they've spotted--

They're calling it
the missing link!

Really? An
undiscovered species?!

We must go see.

Capital idea!

( Crickets chirping )

This is where
we always came.

I was sure
my mom would be here.

Look out!

( Snarling )

Should I talk to him?

Darwin:
no, you should panic.

What are we doing?

I can't believe I thought
any of this was fun.

You know what I think?

I think fun is a dirty trick
you humans play on primates!

( Growling )

( Trumpets loudly )

( Trumpeted reply
in distance )

( Crickets chirping )

( Distant trumpeting )

Finally!

( Starts engine )

Mom!

( Trumpets joyously )

( Trumpeting )

( All gasp )

( Shouting excitedly )

( Motor roaring )

Mom!

Yomwazi, is that you?

Yomwazi, look at you!

I can't believe
how much you've grown.

Mom, I was just looking
for the water hole.

I got lost and
before I knew it

I was stuck
behind the fence.

I know, I know.

I looked for you for days.

I was so worried.

But when I spotted you
inside that fence

I was glad, yomwazi.

You were better off
in there.

No, I wasn't!

I missed you.

I missed you, too.

But you shouldn't
have come out here.

Why?

She wasn't happy in there.

But she was safe.

It's not a good life
out here.

It's too dangerous.

Didn't you see me
scare off the leopard?

I'm not worried about leopards.

( Men shouting )

( Tires squeal )

There they are!

Oh, no! That's them!

Come on,
we've got to hide!

Mom! Mom!

Who are they?

Poachers.

( Yelling, whooping, shouting )

If I can get them off our trail

Maybe you guys can
get back to the preserve.

Just get ready to run!

Eliza, I don't
like this.

I know, darwin,
neither do i.

Hey, in there,
check there!

( Yelps )

( Inhales deeply )

( Elephantine trumpeting )

Hey, get over here!

( Panting )

( Shouting )

( Jeep speeding off )

Let's go,
let's go!

( Shouts fading )

( Gasps )

( Honking )

( Gasps )

( Honking... )

( Gasps )

( Tires screeching,
men yelling )

( Engines silent )

( Gasps )

Come on!

( Men talking )

( Gasps )

( Metal twisting )

We got it
right here, bill.

( Grunting )

Don't come near me!

I'm filming you
for a big television show.

Come closer
and the world will know

What terrible,
awful people you are.

( Grunting, engine starts )

Which... Doesn't seem
to bother you.

Wait! I think that
was my mom back there.

What can we do?

We've got
to get help!

This way!

But the gate's
down there!

There's no time!

Follow me!

( Babbling )

Whoo-hee!

( Panting... )

Bust through the fence!

Bzz, bzz, bzz!

( Buzzing )

( Jabbering )

Oh-ah...

Bzz, bzz, bzz!

Donnie, watch out!

Ah!

Come on, tarzan.

We got to get you
out of here

Before you become
someone's senior thesis.

( Yelping happily )

( Slurps )
( retches )

Yuck!

And as for you, camera-happy,
armchair anthropologists

Hit the highway.

( Crickets chirping... )

Oh...

Go! Go!

I said, clear out!

( Yelling in fear )

( Thundering hooves
approaching )

( Tires squealing )

Cool.

( Yelps )

( Screams )

Wahoo!

( Panting )

( Grunts )

Hey!

Sorry, deb, but... Mom...

Never mind.

( All clamoring... )

What on earth?

( Gasps )

( Panting )

( Men yelling... )

Run, mom, run!

Get the jeep!

Oh...

That was you
on the searchlight?

Yes!

Oh, thank you, honey.

Eliza, how did you know
I was out there?

Um...

You men,
what happened here?

Marianne,
smashing news.

Someone spotted
an undiscovered primate.

( Jabbering )

Any of you seen
this tiny biped?

Could be history-making!

Or it could be donnie.

Donnie? No.

I always assumed
he was just a little boy.

Have you been holding
out on us, donnie?

Oh, be quiet.

Nigel, you won't
believe it.

Poachers--
right here in the park!

Drove right in.

Heavens, not after
our missing link, I hope.

No, actually, they
were after your wife.

Really?

( Birds singing )

Oh, all this time
and not one elephant.

I just wanted
to say thanks... Again.

Yes, but I wish there
was something

We could do for you.

For me?

Well, nothing
that I can think of.

( Gasps )
but there is something

That you can do
for my mom.

( Sighs )

( Gasps )

Oh, my...

Nigel?

Come quick.

( Trumpets majestically )
