Martin: We're here
in South America,

in the largest
rainforest in the world.

The Amazon.

We're here on the
rainforest floor.

It's us the Kratt Brothers.

Martin: I'm Martin...

Chris: I'm Chris.

Lots of different monkeys
live in the forest here.

Martin: But there is
one group of monkeys

that stands out from the rest.

First of all,
they're really small.

I'm talking about the mini
monkeys of the Amazon.

Chris: And second,
they have some really

fancy colorful fur patterns.

Come on. We'll show you.

This is one type of tamarin
monkey with a cool mix of red,

black, grey and white fur.

Like other tamarins,

they even get their name
from their fur pattern.

This one's called a
saddle-back tamarin

because of the awesome mottled
patch of fur on his back

that looks like a saddle.

Martin: And there's the
cotton-top tamarin with that

puff of white hair on
the top of the head.

There's the golden lion tamarin.

Golden color, lots of hair
around the face like a mane.

And the emperor tamarin which

has this big fancy
twisting mustache.

Chris: See? They all have
amazing fur patterns.

And they're really
social creatures

who love to hang out
in family groups.

Martin: And they are
little acrobats.

And they scamper around
like a monkey,

but also a lot like a squirrel.

They can leap from
tree to tree

and really move
through this forest.

They're quick, smart,
active little creatures.

Chris: We have got to figure out

why these monkeys have
such cool hair styles.

Martin: Imagine if we
had the creature powers

of these mini monkeys
of the Amazon.

Chris: Mystery of
the Mini Monkey Models.

Jimmy Z: Wow, the largest
rainforest in the world.

The Amazon.

Koki: And almost % of the
world's land creatures

live in those forests.

Martin: Like birds of prey!

How about these
harpy eagle powers!

Check it out!

Jimmy Z: Whoooaaa! Not again.

Koki: Yes, we know, harpy eagles

are one of the strongest
eagles in the world.

Martin: So powerful
they hunt big prey,

like sloths and monkeys.

Jimmy Z: We know, we know...

Chris: Calling all

Mystery alert! C'mon!

Martin: We're here!

Martin: Deactivate!

Jimmy Z/Koki: Whoa.

Martin: What's up Chris?

Chris: Aviva and
I have a special

South American creature mystery

for us to solve.

Aviva: And you'll never guess

what kind of animal
it has to do with?

Koki: Hmm...

Martin: I know. Mini monkeys?

Aviva: Huh? How'd you know?

Martin: You've got a picture
of one on the screen.

Chris: That's right.
Mini-monkeys it is!

This mystery is all
about a special family

of South American monkeys.

The tamarins.

Koki: Tamarins?
Never heard of them.

Chris: Actually the family
includes tamarins and marmosets.

They're really small
and unusual monkeys.

Check it out. This one's
a golden lion tamarin.

Jimmy Z: That's one
good looking creature.

Aviva: And there's the
cotton-top tamarin.

Koki: Whoa. Cool mohawk!

Chris: The common marmoset.

Jimmy Z: Ha! Love the ear tufts.

Martin: One of my personal favs.

Chris: There are like
different kinds.

Martin: And they're
all awesome looking.

Each with unique
colorful hairstyles.

Aviva: They're like

Donita: No, marmalade is jelly.

It's marmosets.

Tamarins and marmosets.

We're heading to the Amazon!

Chris: Okay, so let's fan

We need to find as many

of these South American

Martin: And if we can activate
their creature powers,

it might help us figure out

what these hairstyles
are all about.

Aviva: Exactly!

Martin: You're kidding!

Tamarin powers!

Awesome!
Chris: Alright!

Aviva: They have most of
the programming built in.

But I'll need to

species we find.

Aviva: Wow! Rainforests
have more different animals

than the rest of
the world combined.

Jimmy Z: And we
have to find tiny,

secretive little monkeys
in this place?

Aviva: Hey, don't you
like a challenge?

Jimmy Z: Yeah, challenge me
to a popcorn eating contest

and I'm in,

but this... ehhh,

not so much.

Uh. Aviva...

Aviva: What?

Jimmy Z: I think I found them.

Aviva: Yes!

Wow that was easy.

Jimmy Z: Yeah when you're
driving a giant butterfly.

Good thing Tamarins are curious.

Aviva: Those are
saddle-back tamarins Jimmy.

They have different
color patterns

that look like a saddle.

Jimmy Z: Love the
orange highlights.

Aviva: And a tiger
striped-saddle.

That's what gives
them their name.

Wow, Tamarins move around
more like squirrels.

So that's why they have
sharp claw-like fingernails.

Jimmy Z: And no grabby
prehensile tail.

Aviva: Hey, you can't eat
that butterfly, cutie.

Tamarins eat lots of things,

fruit, flowers, insects, frogs.

So, here's the thing:

you Tamarins are
all really similar.

Similar size, diet, habits.

So why all the
fabulous hairstyles?

(gaps)
They're off, Jimmy. C'mon!

Jimmy Z: Ugh, couldn't he have
just answered the question?

(zap!)

Chris: See anything Koki?

Koki: Not yet.

Oh, I see a cute little
tree-climbing hamster,

but not a monkey.

Chris: A tree-climbing
hamster?!

Where?
Koki: Right behind you!

Chris: Whoa! That's
not a hamster.

It's a monkey that is
the size of a hamster.

The smallest monkey
in the world.

The pygmy marmoset!

Koki: She's so cute.

I like her slicked back hair.

I'm sending Aviva a scan,

so she can update our disc

to pygmy marmoset power.

Chris: Great.

And, Koki, you'll never guess
what these little guys eat.

Koki: I bet I can.

It looks like she
eats giant trees!

Weird.

Chris: Nope, she just
makes holes in the trees.

Here, I know a Wild Kratts
kid in North America

who can give you a hint.

Nolan: Hey Chris,
Koki! Nolan here.

Chris: Nolan, where are you?

Nolan: In my grandpa's
maple grove.

We're making maple syrup!

Koki: Huh. How do you do that?

Nolan: We put a little hole in
the trees with these taps

and then sap drips out
into the bucket.

Koki: Hmmm.... sap drips out...

Chris: Yeah, sap is full
of sugars and nutrients.

It's the liquid plant food
that runs through plants,

just beneath the bark.

Koki: So it's sap! This
little monkey eats sap.

Chris: You got it Koki.

Yummy, right?

Nolan: And when our
maple sap is cooked,

it becomes maple syrup.

Koki: Thanks Nolan.
Great connection. Bye.

Aviva: Chris, Aviva here.

I've updated your tamarin
family disc to pygmy marmoset.

You can try it now.

Chris: Thanks Aviva! I've been
waiting my whole life for this.

Insert pygmy marmoset disc.

Touch pygmy marmoset.

Activate Pygmy Marmoset Powers!

Mini awesome!

I feel small, quick, and nimble.

Koki: Well, your little
friend is quick too.

Chris: Hey, wait up. We've
got a mystery to solve!

Martin: Yes!

You are the tamarin
I was hoping to find.

The emperor tamarin.

Oh, I can't believe it.

What an awesome mustache!

You look super cool, buddy.

I know, female emperor
Tamarins have mustaches too.

But babies don't.
Not yet anyway.

(laughing)

Yeah, you're only the
size of my finger.

Hey...I'll name you thumb.

Thumbs up!

(laughing)
Ooh, and you'll be Pointer?

Two mini monkeys.

Tamarins are known for
usually having twins.

Hey, I gotta try out
your creature power.

Maybe that'll help figure out
why you grow those mustaches.

Aviva, I've got an
emperor tamarin here.

Sending you DNA scans.

Aviva: Okay, I'll get on that
emperor tamarin disc update.

Stand by.

Martin: What! Wait! Hey!

I really want mini
mustached monkey powers!

Wait!

Koki: Chris, over here!

You guys have a visitor.

Chris: (gasps)
A blue morphobutterfly!

Koki: I guess she
likes the sap too.

She's sucking it up.

(gasps)
What? I thought she ate sap?

Chris: I forgot, pygmy
marmosets will eat insects

every now and then.

Koki: Wow.

Huh?

Another mini monkey?

I thought you said that
was a full grown marmoset.

Chris: She is.

Koki: Well this
one is way bigger.

Chris: He does have
tiger-striped fur,

but he's a saddle-back tamarin.

Retreat!

Whew, that was close.

Saddle-back Tamarins don't
gnaw holes themselves,

but they will raid
the sap holes

that the pygmy marmosets make.

Koki: Okay, I'm starting to see
that all these mini monkeys

are similar, but a
little bit different.

Chris: Yeah, imagine
if each species

looked exactly the same too.

Koki: Even they'd get a little
confused about who was who.

Chris: Right, the different
hair patterns help a lot.

Okay pal. I'm in the saddle.

Let's ride saddle-back!

C'mon Koki!

We've got more Tamarins to find.

Koki: Right behind you.

Donita: Ahhh. I like this one.

(zap!)

Beautiful striped fur pattern.

Slicked back.

Very strong look for a face
with delicate features.

Okay, you're my next top model.

Dabio: You're so lucky!

Martin: Finally, I
caught up to you guys.

Careful Thumb and Pointer.

One of the most dangerous things
for a baby emperor tamarin

is falling out of the tree.

Ah, are you mom?

Hard to tell since the entire
group looks after the babies.

It's amazing only one of
the females has babies

and the rest of the group
helps to raise them.

Now if I could just activate,

I might be able to figure out

what that awesome mini monkey
mustache is all about.

Whoa!

(struggling)

Aaannnd...Activ..vate

Donita: Pose Beam!

(zap! zap! zap)

(laughter)

Nice aim Dabio.

Sorry darling, I need those
gorgeous little monkey models

and you would have
tried to stop me, right?

Martin: Monkey models?

Donita: I just love
those mustaches.

Dabio...

(smash!)
Dabio: Ah!

Hmmm?

(tree shaking)

Donita: Oh, look Martino!

They fell out of the
tree just like you said.

Martin: Aaaahhh...

Donita: Careful.

You don't want to
damage your complexion.

Let's take him with us Dabio.

We'll practice our Mini
Monkey Makeovers on him.

Dabio: Oh, he's like a poseable

action figure Donita.

Donita: Okay, Dabio.

Let's get ready to style!

(laughing)
Style Martino!

Chris: Oh ho! This is a
great way to see the forest!

Aviva: Chris!

Chris: Aviva!
Koki: Guys!

You found us!

Chris: This saddle-back
found us.

At a marmoset hole.

Then rejoined the troop.

Whoa, you're not a saddle-back.

You're an emperor tamarin.

Nice mustache!

Aviva: Same size, same
forest, same diet.

Different look.

Chris: Wait a minute,

hey, wasn't Martin
with the emperors?

Koki: Yeah, but I can't
find his location anywhere.

And he's not responding.

Aviva: Look, the
saddle-backs and emperors

are taking off together.

Chris: I've heard that
saddle-back Tamarin's

and emperor Tamarin's,

sometimes forage together.

C'mon!

Koki: You guys go.

Jimmy and I will keep
trying to reach Martin.

Chris: Okay, see ya!

Aviva: Stay in touch!
Koki: Will do!

Aviva: Why would two
types of Tamarin's

travel together like this?

Chris: Well, by
combining troops,

there's more eyes and
ears on the lookout.

(loud chirping)

Chris: Harpy eagle Alert!

Look out!

Whew, nice move.

And nice spot.

Aviva: Okay, I get it.

More eyes and ears on the
lookout for predators.

Chris: Exactly!

Predators like eagles,
ocelots, tayras, and more.

Yee-haa! C'mon!

Donita: Ah yes, great
mini monkey models Dabio.

These are a good start.

Now Martino, what look
are you going for?

Martin: None. Not when
you have monkey models.

Donita: Oh, so you want
this one? Nice choice.

We're starting with
a blow dry Dabio.

Dabio: Oh goody.

Like this Donita?

Donita: Oh, that's nice!

That's real nice!

Such an improvement
over his previous look.

Now, more inspiration. Hmm...

Let's give him ear
tufts like that one

and a cotton-top like that one.

Dabio: Oh Donita!
You are a trendsetter!

You like?
Donita: Oh yes, yes!

It screams individuality

and sophistication.

Martin: I'm going to scream.

Dabio: This is fun Donita.

Donita: Oh, I'm not
done yet Dabio.

Donita/Dabio:
(evil laughter)

Chris: There...we found one.

A fruiting tree!

Quick, everyone start
eating and get your fill.

Aviva: Not wasting
any time are you?

Chris: Sorry Aviva.
We started eating without you.

See, us saddle-backs are
good at finding the food,

and if we arrive first,

we tend to eat
on lower branches.

But the emperors are bigger,

and prefer to eat higher up.

And if they want to, they
can take what we're eating.

Aviva: Chris, my disc is ready!

I'm joining you!

Activate Emperor Tamarin Power!

(zap)

Oh, this is cool!

Chris: Oh ho.
Nice mustache Aviva.

Aviva: Hey, girl emperor
Tamarin's have mustaches too.

(laughing)
I like it.

Chris: Check it out.

Now we know that these
similar mini monkeys

sometimes even interact
with each other.

Their special hairstyles

really might have
something to do

with interspecific recognition.

Aviva: Interspecific
recognition?

That's a mouthful.

Chris: Science words.

It basically means that
similar animal species,

have ways to identify
their own kind.

Whether it's through
sounds, smells...

Aviva: Or looks, like
different hairstyles.

Chris: Exactly.

In the animal world,

a hairstyle can
make perfectly clear

what kind of tamarin you are.

Aviva: Ah yeah.

Donita: Show me the look, Dabio!

Chris: Hey...is that
who I think it is?

Dabio: Okay Donita,
it's the new Martino.

Aviva: Oh no! She's got Martin.

Chris: And I bet some
of our friends too.

Chris/Aviva: To the
Mini Monkey Rescue!

Donita: I'm ready
for the reveal!

Dabio: Ta-da!

Mini Monkey Makeover.

Martin: I feel ridiculous.

Donita: (gasp)
Oh yes!

That is brilliant!

Aviva: Martin?

Chris: Hmm, that's
actually kind of cool.

Aviva: No!

She's using the Tamarin's
and marmosets as models.

Chris: Well, obviously
that part's not cool.

Hey, I have a plan. C'mon!

Donita: What do
you think Martin?

Martin: I think you've
got to let the Tamarin's

and marmosets go.

Back to living free
and in the wild.

It's not fair to keep
them as your models.

Donita: Oh, I can't do that.

They're inspiring me.

This is my best work.

Let's try that little tiger
stripe style on top, Dabio.

Dabio: Ooh, I need lots of
hair gel for that style.

Donita: Yes! More gel Dabio.

Chris: She wants more hair gel?

Okay!

Donita: The gel. It's drying!

Dabio: It's super strong

Martin: And Donita, you can
be inspired by creatures

without treating them badly.

Aviva: Yeah, we're inspired
by creatures all the time.

Chris: And we take care of them.

Let's get you guys back

living free and in the wild!

Martin: Well, you know
one thing you do have to

give Donita credit for,

Mini Monkey Makeovers

are kind of a fun idea.

Chris: Sure are.

I'm going with
cotton-top tamarin.

Jimmy Z: Mine was easy.

Golden lion tamarins
are the best.

Koki: Looking good Jimmy.

Aviva: Here's to the
pygmy marmosets.

Martin: Awesome.

Koki: That's Creature Mission
Accomplished, right folks?

Chris: Sure is.

We discovered at least one
theory scientists have

for why these mini monkeys
have different hairstyles.

Martin: Yup. And scientists

are still trying to
learn more about it.

The mystery continues.

Aviva: That's science.

Every step gets you
closer to the answers.

Koki: And I'm
still figuring out

which tamarin
hairstyle I like best.

Martin: Well, there
are a lot more species

of tamarins and
marmosets to find.

Let's go!

All: Mini Monkeys!

Martin: So the mini
monkeys of the Amazon

have all kinds of fancy hair
styles and fur patterns.

Chris: They're high
energy little monkeys

that are agile and
full of character.

These saddle-back
tamarins are always busy

and often on the move.

They leap and scamper

through the forest together,

in a group of about to .

Always on the look out for
predators,

but also checking every nook
and cranny of the rainforest

for any tasty
snacks they can find.

Tamarins eat a variety of foods.

Fruit. Leaves.

Sap from trees.
And even insects.

One thing that's
important to all monkeys,

including tamarins, is grooming.

They like to keep
their fur clean,

healthy and parasite free.

Martin: While they
groom, for others,

it's tamarin play time.

It's like a tag team
wrestle session.

Whoever controls the top, wins.

That guy's out.

Oh...the sneak att*ck.

Whoa, hanging on with the feet
and wrestling with the hands.

What a move.

Chris: Check it out.
A pygmy marmoset.

The smallest monkey
in the world.

Only about the
size of a hamster.

And boy are they cute.

There's a young one.

See? Hiding in those leaves.

They're calling each other.

And she's checking
for predators.

All clear. I love them.

In Spanish, their name is
leoncito which means

"little lion", because they
have that amazing furry

lion mane around their faces.

See ya later.

Now that's a mini monkey.

Martin: These mini
monkeys of the Amazon.

The tamarins...
Chris: ...and the marmosets.

Martin: Are so awesome, I want
to meet every single species.

Chris: Well then we
better keep searching bro,

because there are a lot
more species to meet.

Martin: Alright!

Chris: Keep on
creature adventuring.

Martin: We'll see you
on the creature trail.

Chris: To find out
more about cool animals,

Both: We'll see you there!
