02x07 - The Case Of The Missing Ghost Part 3

Post by bunniefuu »

[CHEVON] I think the fountain

pen was slightly to the left.

[CURTIS] I remember there was

a coffee mug on the desk.

- [DONNA] Are you sure?

- [RUBEN] Yeah, I remember it too.

[DONNA] You're right. That's it.

[WATSON] You must be very careful

to remember every last detail of

the office from the sparkle memory.

Yes, every detail counts.

Ruben is a great artist, and this

is exactly how I remember it.

We could have used his

artistry on our signs

for our suffragette marches.

You marched so women could

have the right to vote?

We are just at the beginning

of the movement.

And from the looks of it,

- our efforts are a success.

- Well, yeah.

Nowadays, women can even run for office.

Like me with student council.

You must explain this

council of students to me.

It sounds fascinating.

Um, can we get back to finding

Mason Briggs's missing manuscript?

Right. Now that we know

your grandma's letter from S was

written on Albert's typewriter,

this room could be the same room

where Albert / S / Mason

wrote his books.

And if we find this

view in the real world,

maybe the unpublished

manuscript will be there.

And if we find the manuscript,

our ghost will finally be at peace.

This truly is a juicy mystery.

I'm touched your ghost included us.

Done.

If we find this view

we find the manuscript.

We've been staring at this

picture for 20 minutes.

It's only been five.

Well, feels like 20.

Yeah, and I still got nothing.

If only I had my study.

I always think best in my trusted chair.

Oh. I should tell you.

While you were away,

I sold a few of your things.

Not the chair?

- Sorry.

- Well, I guess I deserve that.

We know there's a coffee

mug on the table.

Maybe it means morning?

Yes, good. And so if the

sun rises in the east

Then the window must be facing east.

Wow, you got all that from a coffee mug?

Wait, look in the background.

I think that's a lake.

[RUBEN] And that's a

swinging bench, isn't it?

That's a start.

We could check to see

which neighborhoods

in the city are right on the water.

Sounds good. We can help after school.

What else of mine did you sell?

Best not to think about it.

No, seriously. Curtis and

I are running together.

Can we count on your vote?

We believe in keeping

the school up-to-date

with the latest technology.

What she said.

I don't wanna talk to them.

You have to.

- They hate me.

- So change their minds.

I already told you.

I can't vote for you.

And I heard you.

I thought maybe I could

change your mind.

Sorry, I can't trust you.

- What if she's running with me?

- Seriously?

If Chevon has her way, there

wouldn't even be a uniform.

- That's not true.

- I think it is.

Stop. I know you don't

trust her, but I do.

And if you vote for us, you have my word

that we will have the athletes' back.

Yeah. Yup.

[CHEVON] So

can we count on your vote?

Fine. I guess.

If you vouch for her, Curtis,

it's good enough for me.

Mr. Mendoza?

- Is Sloane here?

- She went home sick.

We found a lot of fascinating

books in the store today.

Filled with local history,

maps of city neighborhoods.

You think you found the neighborhood

where the sparkle house could be?

We are about to find out.

Looks like there's a creek.

But there wasn't a creek

in the sparkle view.

Maybe it's new?

I don't think so. Look.

"This is a man-made waterway

created in the 1930s."

And these houses look new.

We can see a lake,

but I don't see any swings or benches.

- I guess we must keep looking.

- I was sure this was it.

- What are we missing?

- Don't get down, Shirl,

we'll figure it out.

Ah. You always know just what to say.

Where would I be without you?

I liked it better when

they were in a fight.

[HOLMES] Come on.

It's gnawing at me.

We're missing something. Something big.

Maybe we should think

about something else?

A break usually comes

when we least expect it.

Isn't it late?

Shouldn't your mother be home by now?

Um, I guess so.

Maybe she got distracted

on her way home?

I don't know, my mom doesn't

really get distracted.

Should we call the police?

No, we should not call the police.

- Hey.

- [RUBEN] You're back.

Sorry about that.

Our date ran kind of long.

Find out where she went.

So, where did you go?

Uh, dinner at my favorite seafood place,

a movie, and then we went for dessert.

And you're drinking coffee this late?

Who is the parent here?

- You.

- That's what I thought.

I love coffee.

And after you go to bed, I still

have work to do to figure out

how we're gonna fix the bookstore.

I'm just used to you drinking

coffee only in the mornings.

But it's not morning.

No, but it is bedtime.

Come on, bud. Hit the hay.

And you got all that from a to-go cup?

The coffee wasn't morning coffee.

It must've been for Albert's nights

when he'd write the Mason Briggs novels

after a day of working as a lawyer.

Living two lives must've

been exhausting.

So that means it was sunset,

- not sunrise?

- Exactly.

And when I looked back

at the park information

Sherlock and Watson found,

it led me here.

The swing!

I can't believe it. We found it.

It's the view from the sparkle house.

I must say, this is an impressive

bit of detective work.

Over there. I would've guessed

that the view from that house

would be close to this drawing.

That's it. It must be where Mason lived.

It's the right era.

We need to get inside.

Maybe it's hidden or buried somewhere.

What are we gonna do?

Go up to the door, ask to search

the house for an old manuscript

that a ghost told us to find?

Maybe don't word it exactly like that.

I wonder who lives there.

Isn't that the vest thief?

That's not good at all.

She doesn't look sick.

Why did it have to be her?

- She's not gonna talk to me.

- You have to try.

After everything we've been through?

This is easy.

So, you wanna go?

- Later.

- [CURTIS CHUCKLES]

Oh! We're coming with you.

Mr. Saunders's class, right?

You can come, but just sit

in the back and listen.

Oh, Curtis

I finished your speech.

This doesn't sound like me.

Which part?

The sports-industrial complex?

I can change it.

We don't say, "Let's

hit the locker room."

Okay. So I got my basketball

knowledge from movies.

You know you could just come to a game.

Maybe you should put

it in your own words.

Is it too much if you wear a

uniform during the speech?

I smell a floral scent.

[WATSON] Must be a type of cologne.

Aha. An aftershave.

[SNIFFS] Ah, yes.

It is emanating from his neck area.

Hmm. When I investigated

the teacher's lounge,

Mr. Saunders was eating

rib eye for lunch,

packaged in a sleek box.

I heard him say that it was

leftover from Melissa's.

[WATSON] Who is Melissa?

Well, exactly.

Ruben's mother said they had

seafood for dinner last night.

What are you saying, Shirl?

Did he have two dinners?

Too soon to confirm, but it is curious.

[CELL PHONE BUZZES]

Careful, Watson. You don't want

him thinking he's being haunted.

Okay, that's it. Pencils down.

And enjoy the rest of your afternoon.

- I'll talk to you later.

- Okay. See ya.

Hey, Madison, it's it's me.

Yeah, I'm running late. [CHUCKLES]

I know, I know. I'll see you soon.

Okay.

Melissa? Madison? Who are these people?

Now, Ruben, your mother's

name is Amy, right?

- Yeah.

- Curious.

He is smiling so whoever

this Madison is,

he isn't displeased by her.

He lied to my mom about grading papers.

He's wearing cologne, a nice jacket

you don't think he's dating

someone else do you?

Well, we must get to the bottom of this.

But it certainly doesn't look good.

Why are you hiding? He can't see you.

In solidarity.

Who are those for?

I'm guessing her name begins with "M."

Melissa's. It's the name

of a restaurant.

Must be where he has his

rendezvous with Madison.

Maybe that's her.

[HOLMES] I can't see from here.

And our special of the

day is fillet of sole

with truffle mushroom risotto.

Does Mr. Saunders work here?

Ruben?

Excuse me, I'll give you another minute.

What are you doing here?

I thought I might grab a bite.

Maybe just a water to go.

- Did you follow me here?

- I

don't have a good answer for you.

Look, I have to call your mother.

Sit right there.

[WHISPERING]

Your teacher has confounded us again.

- I don't know what's

- Oh, and here comes your mother.

Yeah, thanks, Watson.

I think I have ascertained

who this Madison is.

She is the manager of

this establishment.

Does she look mad?

[WHISPERING]

I believe you are about to find out.

Ruben, what's going on?

I thought Mr. Saunders was seeing

another woman named Madison.

I didn't know he worked here.

He waits tables part-time

to help pay off his student

loans and a house payment.

But what about the flowers?

I got these for your mom.

For our date later. [CHUCKLES]

- Thank you. They're beautiful.

- You're welcome.

- Could you just give us a minute?

- Yeah, sure.

I'm sorry, Mom.

It's sweet that you care.

But I think this whole

thing just goes to show

that you're not actually

ready for me to be dating.

Actually, Mr. Saunders seems

like a responsible guy.

I promise I won't interfere again.

Unless you need me to.

[CHUCKLES] I will let you know.

- How about an éclair before you go?

- Oh.

- On me.

- [CHUCKLES] Thank you.

Thank you.

See if he can manage an extra éclair.

Or two.

- The doors are a direct replacement.

- Yeah.

We're wondering about in the back

Dad, what are you doing here?

You guys aren't gonna believe this.

Your dad has offered to help us out

with the bookstore renovation.

When Donna told me what happened,

I thought maybe I could lend a

hand with things around here.

I remember coming here as

a kid in the neighborhood.

That's really cool, Dad.

Plus, I thought I might get

to see you kids a bit more

since you're always here.

We can help too.

I can pick paint colors.

And I can paint.

Ah. We'll see.

We have homework.

And we have a lot to discuss.

Now that we have solved the case

of the double-life teacher

And embarrassed me in the process.

you must get back to the mystery

of the missing manuscript

and sparkle house.

I agree and I have a plan.

Sloane was out sick again today.

So I asked the teacher

if I could drop off her assignments.

That is positively brilliant.

Thanks. I'll see what I can

see when I drop it off.

Maybe Sherlock and Watson can

go with you and look around.

Actually we cannot.

Why not?

This is something you

must do on your own.

It's true. We have taught

you all we know.

You have proven to be

some of the greatest detectives

we have ever had the

pleasure with which to work.

Outside of ourselves, of course.

Yes, of course, my dear Sherlock.

And you have taught me

the value of my associate.

And inspired me to solve

cases on my own as well.

[HOLMES] So if my

calculations are correct,

your ghost friend will send book

characters back into their books

as soon they've helped you

and you've helped them?

That's usually how it works.

Well then, I believe that we'll

be heading back into our book

in three, two, one.

[SNAPS FINGERS]

[DONNA] The words are back in the book.

Did they just predict when

they'd go back in the book?

That's a first.

They really are the best detectives.

And we really are on our own.

Hey. Since you've been out sick,

I brought you your homework.

You didn't have to do that.

I think the word you're

looking for is "thanks."

Thanks.

Oh, wait.

Can I use your bathroom before I go?

It's a long subway ride back.

This way.

It's right at the end of the hall.

Thanks.

Hey! What are you doing?

Bathroom's over there.

My bad.

Thanks for the assignments.

Don't freak out, but I made

a few changes to my speech.

And you're telling me this now?

Right before going in front

of the entire school?

Just read it.

- Are you sure?

- I am if you are.

It's perfect. I'm with you.

[CHEVON] We all want a

school to be proud of.

And that's why when you vote,

you should vote for us,

because this school deserves better.

You deserve better.

And now I'd like to

introduce my running mate.

You know him as a star athlete,

but hopefully you'll know him

as your next student

council vice president.

It's Curtis Palmer-Moreno.

Yeah, Curtis!

Thanks. I'm excited to

be running with Chevon.

No one cares about this school like her.

For real.

I know Chevon's gotten a lot of heat

for saying the athletics get

all the funding in the school,

but she's right.

It is unfair.

I'm an athlete and I've been

playing basketball my whole life.

But my whole world changed this year

when I found out I have dyslexia.

It's not a big deal.

I've learned that my

brain works differently,

I just need some extra help reading.

The problem is, the school

doesn't have the money it needs

to help kids like me.

We should have funding

for both athletics

and resources in the learning lab

so that everyone gets what they need.

I hope you all vote for us. Thank you.

Whoo!

Hey, Curtis.

That was cool what you did up there.

I'm proud of you.

But don't let it get to your head.

Okay, Donna. Not at school.

I hope I didn't mess up our

chances at winning the election.

Nah, I'm glad you did it.

Hey, Jake.

Hey, I had no idea you were

going through all that.

Yeah, I didn't really talk about it.

I get it. You know I have your back.

Thanks.

I'm back.

- Are you going to do this every day?

- I don't know.

Are you gonna pretend to be sick

every day? You're obviously not.

- What do you want, Donna?

- We need to talk about my vest.

I didn't technically steal

your vest, you know.

I found it in the lost and found.

So I did leave it somewhere.

I couldn't afford one

of those patch vests

and I thought maybe the person

wasn't missing it too much.

Just so you know, I can't

afford that brand either.

That's why I made a vest

that looks just like it.

Wow, it looks exactly

like the real ones.

- Thanks.

- I am sorry I took it.

School's been hard enough

with all the rumors

and I guess I just wanted to fit in.

Yeah, I heard you got suspended

from your last school.

What? No, I didn't.

The truth is more boring than that.

My dad got transferred.

We move around a lot so it's

easier if I just keep to myself.

- That's hard.

- I'm used to it.

You know, I can make a vest for you.

- Really?

- Yeah, it'll be fun.

Do you have to go or do you

wanna hang a bit more?

[CHUCKLES] This is your bedroom?

Nice view.

Yeah. I love it.

And I love this hoodie.

Thanks, I got it at a thrift store.

I can't wait to show you all

the thrift stores I go to.

Hey, do you wanna see

something really cool?

Check this out.

My parents don't even know about it.

[DONNA CHUCKLES]

Whoa, you have a secret compartment?

I know.

Was anything inside?

Like old treasures or

maybe some documents?

No, it was empty.

I wonder why the original owners

built it in the first place?

Clearly they had something to hide.

A secret compartment with no manuscript?

I can't believe we hit another dead end.

It must've been there at some point.

This is us. Let's go.

Ew. Don't touch random

things on the subway.

[WHOOSH]

- That was weird.

- You saw that light too?

Yeah.

This is our stop.

Were we on the express? That was fast.

What's going on? We were just here.

It looks like no one has

been here for a while.

Mom.

Grandpa!

What the

Check it out.

This newspaper is from the future.

How is that possible?

I think we just time traveled.
