I'm so happy you are here.

With instruments today.

like a band.

I'll play my rhythm with a triangle.

[ Blue and Magenta bark]

[ barks]: I'll play my rhythm with a tambourine.

Magenta plays a rhythm with a tambourine.

Joe, are you going to play an instrument

in the band?

Do you want to play an instrument

with me in ♪ Blue's big band ♪ ?

Let's see.

♪ In Blue's big band. ♪

Let's practice.

I'll make a rhythm and then you repeat it.

It's like a pattern of sounds.

We've got to go practice

playing our instruments.

[ barks]

Hey, Blue, what instrument are you going to play

in the band?

[ barks happily]

Yeah!

We'll play "Blue's Clues" to figure it out.

So remember, Blue's paw print will be on the clues.

then a line that goes down and around for the bottom.

There, a lid.

So what instrument could Blue want to play in the band

with a lid?

Oh, maybe.

But let's keep looking for clues so we can be sure.

[ rhythmic b*at thumping]

I hear a rhythm.

[ guitar being strummed]

Hey, Periwinkle.

Hey, Joe.

Look-- I'm playing rhythms on my drum.

I'm going to play them in Blue's big band.

Want to help me practice?

Do you want to play rhythms with Periwinkle?

Super.

Oh, Periwinkle can play his drum

and we can clap our hands.

Great.

So I'll play a rhythm

and then you clap it.

Ready?

I think we need to hear that one more time.

Could you play that again, Periwinkle?

So, our second clue is beans.

Let's draw a round shape that curves in a little.

Add a few more.

We have beans.

So what instrument could Blue want to play in the band

with a lid...

and beans?

Oh, good thinking.

But let's find our last clue and see.

[ Blue barks happily]

Come on.

Blue just skiddooed into that picture.

Clap the skiddoo song with me, okay?

[ Blue barks happily]

Listen to that music.

[ barking to the music]

[ music continues]

Oh, hi, Piano.

Great music.

I'm trying to tell a musical story

about some piglets,

but I don't have anyone

to play the part of the piglets.

Do you want to be the piglets in Piano's story?

Great.

You'll be perfect.

You just need one thing.

Piglet noses.

One for me, one for Blue, and...

one for you.

[ Blue barks "One for you."]

Nice.

Okay.

Let's practice being piglets.

Oink.

Oink.

Oink, oink, oink.

Okay, piglets.

Listen to the music, and try to feel

what the rhythm is telling you to do.

[ Blue barks "Okay"]

It was late one night.

The moon and stars were shining bright.

The piglets had had a long day.

[ Piano playing Brahms' "Lullaby"]

What do you think

the music is telling us to do?

[ lullaby continues]

Go to sleep.

Oh... go to sleep, yes.

[ yawning]

I am a sleepy piglet.

Let's lie down.

[ lullaby continues]

[ snoring]

Are you asleep?

PIANO: The piglets slept

all through the night,

snug in their bed, until...

[ Piano plays fast notes]

[ Piano repeats fast notes]

[ repeats fast notes again]

What do you think

the music is telling us to do now?

[ Piano plays fast notes]

Wake up!

Wake up.

[ Blue barks "Wake up"]

We've got to rise and shine.

Stretch with me.

[ breathes deeply]

PIANO: The piglets woke up.

It was time for them to go to school.

We've got to get to school.

But how?

Listen to the rhythm of the music.

[ Piano playing march]

What type of music goes with this rhythm?

Walking.

Marching.

Walking, or marching.

March to the rhythm with me.

We're marching to school.

[ barks "Marching to school"]

PIANO: Suddenly, the piglets heard

the school bell ringing.

[ ringing]

They were late for school.

[ Piano playing fast, running notes]

Now, what is the rhythm telling us to do?

Run.

Run.

Run with me.

I'm running.

I'm feeling the rhythm.

[ barks "Oh!"]

We made it.

The speedy piglets made it to school just in time.

The end.

You know what we need now?

First let's draw a round shape for the top;

a line that goes down and back up.

Two curves on the front.

We have all three clues

to figure out what instrument Blue wants to play in the band.

We're ready to sit in our...

Thinking chair.

Thinking chair.

Let's go.

Now that we're in our thinking chair, let's think.

So... what instrument could Blue want to play in the band

with a lid...

beans...

and an empty can?

Well... we could put the lid on the can,

but what about the beans?

Well...

Maybe we could put the beans inside the can,

and then put the lid on.

Then if we shook the can, we could hear the beans inside.

What instrument would that be?

[ rattling]

A maraca.

[ barks "A maraca"]

A maraca.

A maraca is an instrument you shake... to make music.

We just figured out Blue's clues.

♪ We sat on down, figured it out ♪

♪ What Blue's clues were all about ♪

♪ Wow! ♪

♪ You know what? ♪

♪ We're really smart. ♪

Let's play some rhythms in Blue's big band.

Does everybody have their instruments?

Ah, nice maraca playing, Blue.

I'm here, too.

Hey, Piano!

Hi, Piano.

Remember how we moved

to piano's different rhythms?

Are you ready to clap with me?

Excellent.

Okay, Blue.

The band's all here.

Let's play.

Who wants to play the first rhythm?

I'll play it, and then you play it back.
