- [female student] Good morning.
- [male student] Morning.

[indistinct chatter]

- [whimsical music playing]
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Park Hyeong-seok.

Tall frame, chiseled good looks,
and rich. He has it all. A true elite.

He took down Lee Jin-seong
as soon as he got here.

He's currently the hottest guy in school.

To my shock and amazement,
he's even a good singer.

And now, he's standing in my house.

- [chuckles] Thanks for the invite.
- [dog barking]

[Pyeon Deok-hwa]
This must be his first time

coming into a place as shabby as this.

What if he's disappointed by me?

Oh, uh... [groans]
I... I'm so sorry.

The... the place is pretty messy, huh?

My grandma's really busy
with work, so... [chuckles]

- [Park Hyeong-seok] Deok-hwa...
- Uh.

[Park Hyeong-seok]...it's daytime.
Why do you have the lights on?

[soft music playing]

Uh. Hmm?

[Park Hyeong-seok] You need to save
on the electricity bill. And also...

better to keep
the newspapers in a tidy stack.

- Huh?
- [Park Hyeong-seok] If you put them

between shoes or clothes,
it removes unwanted moisture.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa chuckling]

Oh, and they're good
for cleaning windows too.

The oil in the ink absorbs all the dust.

You must have had
a great upbringing to know all this.

[chuckles] I guess I learned by watching
my mother do all this stuff at home.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa chuckling]
My grandmother brings home

these newspapers to do that too.

Uh. She says you can make vegetables
last over a week if you store them

rolled up in a newspaper.

[Park Hyeong-seok]
Oh, my mom does that too.

She says if the newspaper
is rolled up tight enough,

it will keep the potatoes from sprouting.

- Oh, sorry.
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Hmm?

Sorry, I'm being rude.

I'm not here to clean your place,
I... I came to practice.

- [chuckles] Oh, it's fine.
- [chuckles]

Hmm.

About practicing that song.

- Do you really think I can sing it?
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Oh, of course you can!

It's hard to express,
but when you sing, Hyeong-seok,

it feels earnest.
And it makes me feel warm all over.

[chuckling] And I'm confident
about my rapping.

With your singing and my rapping,
we'll knock everyone off their feet.

- [grunts]
- Huh?

[Pyeon Deok-hwa]
Uh. I'd like you to listen to this.

[instrumental music playing over speaker]

Huh? This is...

[Pyeon Deok-hwa]
I rearranged the song you sang.

Uh. I like the melody.
What song is it from?

Oh, I don't really know.
I can't remember where I heard it.

- It just spilled out of me.
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Spilled out of you?

[Park Hyeong-seok] Well, it's just...

I think it's just something I sing
when I'm feeling blue and lonely.

I think it might just be
my way of escaping reality.

- Oh, the melody changed right there.
- Oh...

The one you sang
was too short to sustain a full song.

So, I added a new melody to fill it out.

[Park Hyeong-seok]
Wow, you're a composer too?

- [chuckles] Oh, well, just a bit.
- [chuckles] That's amazing.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa] This is
just a rough sketch, so it might suck.

[instrumental music
continues playing over speaker]

What do you think?

Wow, it's great.

You made it so much better.

[chuckles] Oh, it'll get better
once it's mixed and mastered.

Oh! And I'm going to try to make
the lyrics a little catchier if I can.

[Park Hyeong-seok] Whoa, so dedicated.

He's truly incredible.

["Like That" playing]

["Like That" concludes]

[Park Hyeong-seok] I'm sorry,
I couldn't practice for any longer.

Oh, it's not your fault.
You have to go to work.

Still, I was surprised
that you have a part-time job.

It's only right for me.
Earn my money to live on.

All right, then we can practice
at lunch time,

- since you won't have time after school.
- Yeah.

[stomach gurgles]

Oh, I'm so sorry. I should have
fixed you something to eat earlier.

Oh, no, it's... it's fine. Thanks to you,
I got to listen to great music.

- [chuckles]
- [Deok-hwa's grandmother] Ah! Deok-hwa...

- Uh.
- Oh...

- [chuckles]
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Oh!

Is this your friend?

[Park Hyeong-seok]
So, this is your grandmother?

- [laughs]
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Yeah.

- [soft music playing]
- Hmm. Nice to meet you, ma'am.

I'm Park Hyeong-seok, Deok-hwa's friend.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa's grandmother] Goodness!

My grandson has so many friends.

Oh, uh...

TTEOKBOKKI, FISH CAKE, FRIES

Uh. It's getting late.
Have something to eat before you go.

[Park Hyeong-seok] Mm-hmm.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa's grandmother]
Come on, don't be shy.

- [Pyeon Deok-hwa grunts]
- [Park Hyeong-seok] Thank you

- for the offer, ma'am.
- [exhales]

[Park Hyeong-seok]
It's just that I'm full.

- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Huh?
- Thank you for thinking of me.

I know that you're busy working.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa's grandmother]
Oh, I see. [chuckling]

- [Pyeon Deok-hwa sighs]
- [Park Hyeong-seok] Goodbye, ma'am.

- [Pyeon Deok-hwa's grandmother chuckles]
- See you later, Deok-hwa.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa] Okay.

- Oh, my. Nice young man. [chuckles]
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Hmm.

[traffic rumbling]

[Jin Ho-bin] The song and the lyrics
are so fire.

[owner] Of course they are.

I paid a hefty sum to a famous lyricist
and a composer to write it for me.

[laughs]

It's only a high school festival though,
you know.

You sure you don't mind us
singing this great song?

- [exhales]
- The song is targeted at high school kids.

It's a good opportunity to try
the song out and see how the kids respond.

If we get a good response there,
we'll use it as your debut song.

- [gasps]
- Are you serious?

- [owner] Absolutely.
- [gasps]

- [owner] And if they like you too...
- [chuckles]

- [owner]...I'll let you debut...
- Huh?

[owner]...with Ho-bin.

- So, do your best.
- [chuckles]

- I'll give it my all, sir!
- [grunts] Okay, okay.

If this goes well,
you'll be a part of this world.

Do you have any idea
how good you can have it?

Money, women or anything else you'd want,
is all yours for the taking.

- [laughing]
- [laughs]

whenever I think of an idea for lyrics.

- Should we start practicing, then?
- [Park Hyeong-seok] Yes.

Amazing!

- Man, I am shook!
- [chuckles]

Honestly, I thought you'd have trouble
connecting to this song.

- Oh...
- On account of how we live

in such different worlds.

Hmm.

But, I don't know how to put this...

I felt your sincerity through the song.

- Well, thank you.
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] But if I can be...

- Huh?
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa]...real here,

there's no denying you're expressive,
but your technique needs more work.

- [Park Hyeong-seok] Oh...
- We only have two weeks left

- until the festival.
- Hmm.

[Pyeon Deok-hwa] Not much time
and you won't get better right away,

even with practice.

- Then... what should I do about it?
- [Pyeon Deok-hwa] Hmm.

[chuckles] It won't be perfect,
but just focus on memorizing the song,

rather than
on vocalizing or on breathing.

Don't overwork your vocal cords.
We don't want to do any damage to them.
