- [Angela] That was a great idea to make triangle hopscotch.

- [Cammie] Yeah they're really pretty.

- [Whitney] I like the colors.

(bells chiming)

- [Whitney] You're doing great Cammie.

I can't quite reach it.

Oh, that's an interesting hopscotch board.

I've never seen one quite like it.

- That was Angela's idea.

- Whitney was learning about triangles in school

so I thought it would help her if we drew a few.

- And then we figured out we can make it

into a hopscotch board.

- Oh, what a great idea.

Did you draw some of the triangles too Whitney?

- Yes I did.

In school we learned that triangles

have three straight lines.

One, two, three, and three corners.

One, two, three.

- Oh, three straight lines

and three corners make a triangle every time.

Oh look at all the shapes.

(girls cheering)

- Hi everybody, hi Barney.

- Hi Mario, oh it's so nice to see you.

- [Whitney] How are you doing?

- I'm doing great.

- Oh um, are those new hiking boots?

- [Mario] Uh huh.

- [Girl] Oh wow.

- I'm practicing for our family camping trip this weekend.

I wanna get used to wearing these before we go.

- It's a good idea to practice Mario.

Then you'll be ready for some nice hikes.

- That's what my dad said too.

- Maybe you'll get to see a deer.

- I hope so.

- Oh, when you're in the great outdoors

you never know what you're going to see.

It's always an adventure.

- Say, what are all these triangles doing down here?

- We made up a game called triangle hopscotch

to help me learn about triangles.

- [Mario] Oh neat.

(children talking)

- Look everybody, I see another triangle.

- [Barney] You're right Whitney.

It's got three straight lines,

and three corners.

- [Angela] Great job Whitney.

- [Whitney] Thanks.

- I see one too.

Look at the flag up there.

- [Barney] Oh, oh wow.

- Way to go Cammie.

Now look at the door on the caboose.

- [Everyone] More triangles.

- Once you start looking, you can see triangles

in lots of different places.

- Let's look for some more.


- How about inside the caboose?

- Don't forget your backpack.

I'm sure we'll find some more in here.

(children talking)

- I found one.

- You did.

Three straight lines, three corners,

that's a triangle.

- I thought so.

- Great.

- I see one too.

- Oh, where is it Mario?

- Right here.

- You definitely found one Mario.

Way to go.

- Thank you.

- Can you find a triangle?

Remember look for three straight lines

and three corners.

- [Boy] I can make a triangle.

- Triangle has three corners.

- Triangle.

- A great big purple triangle.

- A triangle has three sides.

- We made a triangle.

- [Everyone] Triangle.

- Whoa, good job everybody.

- [Everyone] Thanks Barney.

- You're a terrific triangle detective team.

- [Everyone] What?

What is it?

- [Barney] I wonder what it could be.

Oh boy.

- [Angela] Triangles.

- [Everyone] Oh wow.

- Oh so that's where all the triangles were hiding.

- Is this a triangle too Barney?

- Well, let's count the sides and the corners and see.

- [Whitney And Barney] One, two, three straight sides.

One, two, three corners.

- It is a triangle.

I didn't know they could be so different.

- That's what makes them so much fun to find.

- Look Barney, a butterfly.

- [Barney] Oh let me see, oh it is a butterfly.

That's neat.

- [Everyone] Yeah.

- I made a tree.

- Don't forget the trunk.

- [Cammie] What else can we make?

- Oh, I'm sure if you keep using your imagination

you'll come up with something else.

(children talking excitedly)

- Why don't we all make a different project?

- Great idea.

- I know what I want to try.

- Me too.

- Well then, ready, set, create.

- Oo pretty.

- What are you making Whitney?

- I'm not sure yet.

- [Barney] Very nice.

- [Whitney] What are you making Mario?

- I'm not gonna tell you

because it's gonna be a surprise.


- Oh we love surprises Mario, oh my.

Oh, using paint and crayons.

That's a good idea.

- Wow, these are coming out great.

- [Barney] They sure are.

- Let's have a little art show.

- [Barney] Okay.

- I made a pyramid out of triangles.

- [Barney] Oh nice Angela.

- I made triangle fish.

- [Barney] Oh look at all the fishies.

- I made a jack-o-lantern with triangles.

- And he's even smiling, oh my.

And what did you make Mario?

- I made us all triangle hats.

- Oh, I see.

Those look great, my.

- Come over here Barney.

I have a surprise for you.

- Okay, I just love surprises.

- Lean over.

A little bit more, okay.

Here ya go Barney, it's a hat big enough for a dinosaur

and it has three corners.

- Oh thank you Mario.

Well you know Mario,

with that hat on

now you look like a real adventurer.

- I do?

- Yes, you look like you're ready to go camping.

- Come to think of it,

you all look like you're ready

for a camping adventure.

- What do you do on a camping trip?

- Well, I help my dad put up our tent.

I gather the wood for our campfire

and I help make the s'mores.

They're my favorite.

- What's a s'more?

(children talking excitedly)

- They're made with graham crackers,

chocolate squares, and marshmallows.

- They're yummy.

- The best part is eating them by the campfire at night.

- I wish we could go.

- [Everyone] Yeah, that would be really fun.

- Well, maybe we could go today.

- [Kids] Really?

- Yes.

- That would be so much fun.

Here ya go Barney,

let me help you.

- Thank you.

- If only it were night time.

It's more fun to go camping at night.

- Well, maybe you should look outside.

(children talking excitedly)

Oh, oh my.

(owl hooting)

- [Kids] Wow.

- I thought you'd like this.

- Look over here.

- [Angela] Wow.

- [Whitney] It's a campfire.

- [Barney] That's right.

- [Cammie] And a tent.

- Oh yes.

Chows on, or maybe I should say time for s'mores.

- What is that triangle for?

- Well in the old West,

this is how people knew it was dinner time.

They would ring a triangle like this

and everyone would know it was time to eat.

(bell ringing)


Let's make some s'mores.

(children talking excitedly)

- How do you do that?

- First you take a graham cr*cker,

then a piece of chocolate.

- I thought you said we use chocolate squares.

- Barney thinks of everything,

even triangle s'mores.

- Oh, I thought you'd like that.

Triangle snacks can be quite delicious, you know?

Yummy.

♪ You get a graham cr*cker and you break it in two ♪

♪ We get a graham cr*cker and we break it like you ♪

♪ You get a chunk of chocolate

♪ And you put it right there

♪ We get a chunk of chocolate

♪ And we do it with flare

♪ You roast a marshmallow

♪ You smush 'em all together and take a big bite ♪

♪ Mm s'mores you know it's all right ♪

♪ Crackle dee crackers are lickety sweet ♪

Oh nothing like some triangle s'mores

to start off a camping adventure.

Oh but there's a lot more to camping

than eating s'mores.

- Yes lots more.

- What else can we do?

- Well um, you can hike,

look up at the stars,

sing and tell stories around the campfire.

- Yes, especially scary stories, muah ha ha.

♪ One of the things that's fun

♪ Is to tell some scary stories ♪

♪ And try to scare everyone

- Oh you see, scary stories aren't so bad.

- [Everyone] You're right Barney.

- They're kind of fun.

- Have we done everything that we're supposed to do

when we camp?

- Well, let me see here,

we toasted marshmallows, we ate s'mores,

we sang together, and I know what we haven't done yet.

- What?

- We haven't looked at the stars.

- Oh.

- I always like to find the big dipper.

- [Barney] Oh me too.


- [Mario] There it is.

- [Whitney] It's so beautiful.

- [Cammie] I've never seen so many stars before.

- And it looks like it's ready

to scoop up some stars.

Oh there's so many of them.

- Well, I can see why you like camping so much Mario.

It's pretty neat.

- I really wanna go again.

- Oh with a little imagination

you can camp in your own back yard

or even in your living room.

Just be sure to remember the marshmallows.

- [Kids] Oh yeah, good point.

- I suppose it's time for me

to get in some more hiking practice.

- [Barney] Okay.

- Oh no.

I forgot my bookbag inside the caboose.

- We'll come with you Mario.

- Thanks, I don't want to forget it

because it's got my library books in it.

- Come on let's go.

- Don't wanna forget that, oh my.

Here we go.

Oh I just love to camp.

(children talking)

- Ah, here it is.

- Where are you headed Mario?

- I think I'll take a few laps around the park

now that it's daylight again.

- Well, you probably won't see a deer

but you might see a squirrel.

- I'll keep an eye out for one.

- Thanks for taking us camping Barney.

(children talking excitedly)

- Oh I had the best time too.

There's nothing better than spending time with friends

just like you.
