That means "hello."

"I had a lot of fun this week

"and I'm sending pictures to show you what I did.

"There's a picture of my little brother eating lunch.

"One day my father and I put this kite together.

"I went so high when we flew it.

Jambo, everybody.

That means "hello" in Swahili.

And Swahili is a language spoken

in a country called Kenya in Africa.

And that's where I'm from.

My musicians and my dancers are going to show you


a traditional dance from Kenya.

Oh.

Ooh, that's a very pretty stick, Mrs. Matuma.

Oh, thank you.

This is my walking stick.

And these animals are from Kenya, too.

See? This is a zebra and an elephant.

Oh, wow.

I wish we could go on a safari and see them.

Riff, did you know that "safari" is another Swahili word?

It means "journey."

Cool.

And a journey is like a trip.

We can take a journey right now.

All we have to do is use our imaginations.

( all chatter excitedly )

I'm going to take a picture of a chimpanzee.

♪ To see what we can see ♪

♪ There's a lion and a tiger and a great big monkey ♪

♪ Swinging on the branch of a tree ♪

♪ It looks like a chimpanzee ♪

to the people of Kenya.

For them, it's a way to celebrate many things.

how she likes to wear costumes when she dances.

That's right.


Well, maybe I can find something

to wear and dance with the troupe.

Oh, that'll really surprise Baby Bop.

they do wonderful things.

That's why we call our group Harambee.

It means "let's all pull together."

It's made with bottle caps.

See, you can be a dancer and a musician.

This is a costume like the dancers wear in Kenya.
