BLAKE:
That's right, Charles.

I've been ordered by the court

to pay my brother
-and-a-half million dollars.

By today.

No, no, that's just my share of it.

As you can imagine, I had to make
some decisions last night.

I want you to liquidate
all my holdings in Avery Copper.

Use whatever is left over

to buy as much
Denver-Carrington stock as possible.

Yes. We've got to keep the price up.

With the stock selling
at this kind of a price,

you know that Alexis
is gonna try her damnedest

to grab as much of it as she can.

All right.

Get back to me as soon as there's
something to report with. Thank you.

What's going to happen?

I'm not sure, darling.

I think this drop in the stock
is just temporary.

The market is bound to stabilise.

But...

As for the money I have to pay
my brother, well, that hurts,

but I've handled reversals before.

I better get down to the office.

- This is bound to be a hectic day.
- I don't understand.

Why don't you appeal the case
in court?

I wanted to appeal,

but the lawyers said
that it was gonna take years.

And I can't wait years.

I've got to get my name cleared
long before that.

Just as I've got to find that woman

who was with my brother
on the day of the fire.

You'll never know
how much that helps me.

I don't care if you do think
that the price is going to go down.

Just keep on buying
Denver-Carrington stock.

And buy it in street names.
The less visible we are the better.

I never would have believed it.

Believed what?

That the beautiful girl who showed
up from England to marry my brother

would come out of her cocoon
and turn into an iron butterfly.

Correction, Ben.

Where business is concerned,
I'm a steel butterfly,

reinforced with concrete.

I'll buy that.

Talking of buying,
I could buy a lot with that million.

Alexis, I might admire your style,

but I certainly don't like the idea
of your spending my money.

[SCOFFS]

May I remind you that you wouldn't
have a cent if it weren't for me.

And that -and-a-half million
belongs to me.

Oh, I remember.

But have you forgotten how
you told me that you'd give it up gladly

to get exactly what you've gotten,
your revenge on Blake?

The money's mine now, Alexis.

The plans for what I do with it
are mine.

And I don't need your advice
to tell me how to spend it.

- Where are you going?
- I have an appointment across town.

Fine, Ben, that's just fine.
But don't try to cross me, will you?

We haven't finished
with your brother yet,

and you still need me for that.

Have a nice day.

I have an appointment
with Mrs. Colby.

Martin.

It's good to see you again
after all this time.

It's rather early in the day,
isn't it, Alexis?

For whatever this is all about.

I don't know why
we couldn't meet later in your office.

I find my apartment more comfortable
and more private.

Want some coffee?

No, thanks.

You are still on Blake's
board of directors, aren't you?

Yes, I am.

Good, then I think that you and l
should have a little talk.

Do you remember the Palmieri incident
in which your brother was involved?

That was years ago.

It's dead and buried.

Ah, but I have the shovel
to undo the grave, should I so choose.

In plain English,
I'm calling in my marker.

Now, shall we have our little talk?

How do we stand now?

Our situation hasn't improved any.

- What does that mean?
- We're down another four points.

Well, we're trying everyhing possible,
aren't we?

We're doing our best.

We're buying back
as much of our stock as possible.

I appreciate your help. Both of you.

[DOOR OPENS]

Hello, Blake.

Steven. Adam.

Who the hell let you in here?

It's pandemonium in your corridors,
your reception room.

Neither of your secretaries
even looked up from their troubles.

- So I just walked in.
- Why?

To have a brotherly little talk.

Shall we? Talk?

Adam, why don't you and l
wait in your office?

All right, say what you have to say,
and get out of here.

The word on the street must be true.

That you're having a whole lot
of trouble buying up your own stock.

Well, the word on the street
is wrong.

Come on,
you're talking to me now, big brother.

Look, as of today, I just happen
to have a little extra pocket money,

as you know.

And I'd be happy to lend it to you

if you give me a seat, maybe two,
on your board of directors.

For you and Alexis.

Oh, we don't have to get
into that now.

But that is what you're talking about,
isn't it?

You've got the guts enough
to come in here

and make
that kind of a proposal to me?

- You need the money, don't you?
- If I did, I wouldn't use yours.

I try to deal with clean money
and decent people.

And that's something
that you haven't been

since the day
you let Mama die in that fire.

I'd say tell that to the judge.

Except you already have,
haven't you, big brother?

Hello, Patrick.

Your table is ready, Mrs. Colburn.

And today for dessert, we have
your favourite chocolate mousse pie.

That's wonderful.

Okay, those are fine.

Mr. Bradley.
Hello, I'm Amanda Carrington.

Oh, yes, I know.

- Uh, may I sit down?
- Of course.

I wanted to congratulate you

on your being made manager
of La Mirage.

Well, thank you.
It's quite an undertaking.

But I think I'm ready for it.

And I'd like a job here.

I see.

I hear you have an opening
in guest relations,

and I think
I'd be very well suited for it.

I think you'll have to take that up
with your father, not with me.

Mr. Bradley, it's true that my father
owns this hotel,

and that makes this
very hard for me.

But couldn't you just forget that

and sit down with me
and hear what I have to say?

I'm very sorry. I'd like to.

But the fact is
we don't have any openings

in guest relations, PR,
anything like that.

Really, I am sorry.

Excuse me.

Nothing, thank you.

Hi, Amanda.

It isn't all that easy to be rich, is it?

I don't appreciate
your eavesdropping, Clay.

Look, don't get the wrong idea.

I was waiting for my partner to show,
and I couldn't help overhearing.

And thinking
that I know what it's like too,

having a father who plays ball
in the big honcho league.

- Just take a look at me.
- Must l?

Oh, come on, Amanda,
don't be that sensitive.

I used to be and I got over it.

And you wanna know how?
By doing things on my own, for myself.

People disapprove.

Especially my father.

But the important thing
is that I'm doing what I want to do.

I can't seem to be able to find
anything to do.

Well, maybe that's because
you're not trying hard enough.

I mean this isn't the only place
in the world you could find a job.

I don't believe in soft cushions.

But, for starters,
a little nepotism isn't that bad.

- Your mother--
- What about my mother?

She owns a huge corporation.

Why don't you just ask her
to help you out?

Amanda, what's the matter?
She is your mother.

I'd rather not discuss my mother.

WALES: Denver-Carrington stock
is plummeting, right?

That's the word they're using today.

So today our stock is down.
Yes, that's right, Mr. Wales.

You're as honest as ever,
Mr. Carrington.

Let's talk a little bit about the trial
and the public's confidence in you.

Could all of this sudden bad luck
with the stocks

be the result of the trial?

I mean, the things
that were said about you in court?

Things that were said
about me in court were untrue.

- So you maintain.
- So I insist.

Just as I insist that this so-called
plummeting of our stock is, uh--

Is just temporary.

I'm fighting it,
and I'm gonna win that fight.

Your self-confidence
seems rather strong right now.

Yes, it is.

- Are you ready for battle?
- More than ready.

Wouldn't you say that history
is repeating itself?

I'm referring to the Ted Dinard case
several years ago,

when your son Steven's lover d*ed
and you were convicted of his death.

The court ruled that
that was an accident and you know it.

What I know, and everybody knows,

is you were given
the lightest of sentences.

Two years probation.

So in a manner of speaking,
you got away with m*rder then,

and you're getting away
with m*rder again.

You listen to me, Mr. Wales,
and you listen well.

I did not m*rder my mother.

Take this damn machine
and get out of here.

Well, uh, tell me,
off the record, Mr. Carrington,

is this the uglier side of the man
whose picture always appears

on our cover with a smile?

I must tell the art director
to do a little touching up

around the lips this time.

You put my picture on the cover
of your magazine,

you print one word of this conversation
in that magazine,

and I'll have your head.

Do you understand that?

Get out of here.

[lNTERCOM BUZZES]

Yes?

WOMAN [OVER lNTERCOM]:
Mrs. Colby just arrived.

She what?

WOMAN: She insisted on waiting
in your boardroom.

Good afternoon, Blake.

May I ask what the hell
you're doing in here?

Well, you might say that I'm mentally
redesigning this boardroom.

And what does that mean?

This wallpaper is absolutely hideous.
And this terrible old furniture...

The only word for it is passe.

Well, I think it's just fine.

And this chair.

I think I'd be
much more comfortable

with something
that doesn't swivel so much.

In case you haven't got the point,

I shall be going
between both Denver-Carrington

and Colbyco's boardrooms
when both companies belong to me.

Apparently,
you don't have a very good memory.

Oh, on the contrary,
I have an excellent memory.

You have? Then you must remember
the day you sat in this room,

down at that end of the table
when you were on the brink

of forcing a merger between
Denver-Carrington and Colbyco

and you suddenly crumbled.

And there was no merger.

That was before I developed

the excellent business brain
that I have today.

I assure you
that that's not going to happen again.

Oh, yes. Yes, I believe it will.

You can't face facts, can you?

You can't admit that you're becoming
more and more powerless.

Well, this time
there's not going to be any crumbling.

This time it's go for the jugular.

And believe me, Blake, I will.

Garrett Boydston, please.
Dominique Deveraux calling.

- Garrett.
- Hello, Dominique.

It's good to hear from you.

If you'd come back to L.A.,
it'd be better.

Garrett, I'm calling you about Jackie.

- Have you seen her?
- No. Why?

- Where is she?
DOMlNlQUE: I don't know.

She's run away.

What?

DOMlNlQUE: She left and I was
hoping she's gone to see you.

She's called from the road
three times.

- Where on the road?
- She won't say.

Well, she's calling you,
that's a good sign.

It means she doesn't want
to lose touch.

It's gonna be all right, Dominique.

We'll find her. You know that.

[SlGHS]

I wish I did.

Oh, my God, I wish I did, Garrett.

Where can I find Mr. Dexter?

Thanks.

Hi, Dex.

Alexis. Out slumming?

Oh, no, I just came to see
what you're up to.

It's called work.
An honest day's work.

Oh, yes, of course,
the male mystique.

Out in the field with the boys.

Dirty your hands
and cleanse your soul.

- Doing penance?
- I'm busy, Alexis.

Not too busy to sign these.

You could have sent them.

Yes, but then I couldn't have visited
your little purgatory, could l?

Dex, uh, sorry to interrupt you--

Aha! Out in the field
with the boys and the girls.

Some purgatory.

What business is it of yours, lady?

Well, actually it is my business.

You see, I happen to be
your absentee co-employer.

The Lex in Lex-Dex.

Jennifer, whatever you have to tell me,
can it wait?

Sure.
I could wait for you indefinitely, Dex.

How sweet.

She's quite attractive for somebody
who works with machines.

I presume
that's what she works with.

She does her job, Alexis.
She does it well.

I bet she does.

About these papers,

you know I never sign anything
without reading them first.

All right, I'll wait.
I need them for my lawyer right away.

I'm busy. I'll get them back to you.

By morning.

All right. Have a pleasant evening.

I'm sure
you would have done, anyway.

- Alexis.
- Yes?

Why did you come out here?

To check up on what
you were doing with my millions.

Not to see you, darling.

BLAKE: Good to see you again.
- Thank you.

Sit down, won't you?

What brings you to Denver?

Well, I have another appointment
with Dominique.

But, uh, Jason did ask me to drop in
and touch base with you.

Blake, I hate to bring this up,

but, uh, with your stock
dropping this way,

how is that going to affect
your commitments with Jason?

Denver-Carrington still has
all its assets, they're unchanged.

We're still a multi-billion dollar
company, you know.

Oh, I know that. I know.

But, uh, there seems to be
some feeling that--

Well, there are moral issues
involved here.

Come on, Garrett.
Let's get to the point.

Jason Colby
didn't ask you to touch base.

He ordered you to come here.

He sent you here to find out

whether that stuff they said about me
at the hearing was true or not.

- lsn't that right?
- In a way, yes.

Well, I don't have to answer
to Jason.

I don't have to answer to you either,
for that matter.

I understand your anger,
and I'm not judging you.

Blake, you know how much
I respect you.

I'm sorry, Garrett.

I shouldn't have jumped on you
that way.

It's just that this thing
has gotten to me.

I don't care how much money it costs,
I don't care how long it takes,

I've got to get my name clear.

You went to see Blake this morning.

I want to know why.

- Did you have me followed, Alexis?
- I don't have to.

I have contacts all over this city.

So, what did you have to discuss
with him

that you couldn't talk to me about?

That's my business.

Oh, no, no, Ben.

It's my business too,
if we're going to trust each other.

Alexis, we've never really trusted
one another.

We never will. So why start now?

I know you. You know me.

And you think that eventually

one of us is going to double-cross
the other, is that it?

It may come to that, yeah.

Well, in that case, I think you'd better
include me out of this partnership.

Take your little act on the road
and get out of my apartment.

While your spies are tagging along,

in Rolls-Royces
and Colbyco helicopters,

watching my every move?

I shall do whatever is necessary
to protect my own interests.

And I to protect mine.

And the winner will be top dog
and the other dog will be buried alive.

Unless...

Unless what?

Unless we do work together on this.

Stay together.

Pull together.

Be together.

[KNOCKlNG ON DOOR]

Jackie.

- Jackie, is that you?
GARRETT: It's Garrett.

Oh, Garrett. Oh, thank God, it's you.

Oh, I need you so much.
So much right now.

- Any word from her?
- No.

But every hour that passes,

I become more frightened
for her and for us.

For us?

Garrett.

- You are Jackie's father.
- What?

Oh, you knew it. I lied.

I thought I was doing the right thing,
and I lied.

My God, why?

Why wait to tell me?

Did she have to run away
for you to finally admit it?

And what was so right about
what you thought you were doing?

Garrett, please not now, not now.
Not-- We don't know where she is.

She could be out there and something
terrible could be happening to her.

Has she called you
since we last talked?

No.

You said you spoke to her
three times before, what did she say?

That she was all right,
she didn't want me to worry.

Then she'd hang up.

You said she called long-distance.

Did you hear her deposit any coins
after you were connected?

No, I didn't.

Good,
she may still be here in Denver.

- Maybe. I don't know, Garrett.
- Let's pray to God she is.

Get me the police.

- Another martini?
- Yes, thank you.

- Anything else?
- What are you offering?

Within limits, that is.

Do you know what I think, Alexis?

No. What?

It's time we went up to your room.

[LAUGHS]

No, I don't.

Then down to my room.

I'm not gonna make love to you here,
Alexis.

Oh, I'm sorry to disappoint you, Ben,

but you're not going
to make love to me at all.

Don't tell me
you're still the flirt you always were.

Do I sense a touch
of male chauvinism in that remark?

Yes, of course, I adore flirting.

It makes what might come next
so much more exciting.

Hello, Dex.

[SlGHS]

What can I do for you?

The papers you wanted signed.

I said morning,
but I finished reading them tonight.

Obviously.
Well, just leave them, will you?

I guess we each have our own style
of penance, don't we, Alexis?

So it seems, Dex. So it seems.

Amanda?

I didn't see you
at breakfast this morning.

You all right?

I haven't been feeling
very well lately.

I couldn't sleep last night.

In fact, I've been miserable.

What's the matter?

[SlGHS]

It's Dex.

I realise I made
a stupid mistake with him.

I loved him, but it was wrong.

And worst of all...

Go on.

I hurt my mother. I hurt her deeply.

She won't even talk to me, Krystle.
It's such a terrible feeling.

I know.

Unfortunately, I know.

How? How could you?

Because I made
a similar mistake once.

Oh, God,
I wish Alexis could understand.

You know the way she is, Krystle.
She'll never forgive me.

She'll hate me for as long as I live.

- Come on, Mommy.
SAMMY JO: Okay.

Hey, Choo Choo Charlie,
come here.

- Daddy, I'm going on a picnic.
- Going on a picnic, huh?

- Where are you taking him?
- Like Danny said. For a picnic.

In the playroom.

- Mommy says it's too cold outside.
- Yeah, well, it is cold out there.

SAMMY JO:
Steven.

I'm really sorry about the way

that lawyer twisted everyhing you said
about Blake in court.

Thanks, Sammy Jo.

- What do you want?
- Nothing. I meant it.

Okay, I think it's terrific
the way you brought your father down.

Nice touch.

I am sorry, Steven.

Now, lighten up. Stop taking yourself
so seriously all the time.

Danny, I'm gonna get dressed
and go to work, all right?

- Bye, Daddy.
- Bye.

ROBOT: Here's your pepperoni pizza.
- Thank you.

ROBOT:
You're welcome.

- Mm. This is good, Mommy.
- Well, I knew you'd like it.

And what do you think

of Samantha Josephine Reece's
very special picnic lunch?

It all looks very interesting,
especially these, uh, corn dogs.

And the best way
to eat them is like so.

- Take a dog, dip it in mustard.
- Uh-huh.

- And maybe just a dab of ketchup.
- Just a dab?

- Just a dab.
- Aha.

And then you take a big healthy bite,
like this:

I think I'll just, uh... Ahem.

- Mm.
- Ever tasted anything more fabulous?

CLAY: I tell you,
I haven't had anything this exotic

since I picnicked in Mongolia
a couple months ago

on marinated rattlesnake.

- Marinated rattlesnake?
- Mm-hm.

- You're pulling my leg.
- Scout's honour.

Can I be a Scout?

- In about five years, okay?
- Okay.

- He's a great kid, Sammy Jo.
SAMMY JO: Thanks.

Clay? What is that short for?

- Clayton?
- Clayburn.

It was my grandfather's name.

It's my father's middle name.
Buckley Clayburn Fallmont.

Ex-senator of these United States.

- I'm impressed.
- Are you really?

Mm-hm.

I bet you could be a senator
if you wanted to.

No.

SAMMY JO:
You've got everyhing going for you.

Great looks. Class.

- And that smile of yours.
- Well, thanks, Sammy Jo.

But I really have no interest
in politics.

And as far as my smile is concerned,
hey, I got a great life. I'm enjoying it.

Danny, why don't you get your mom
a slice of pizza?

Okay, Mommy.

[SAMMY JO & CLAY LAUGH]

CLAY:
Hey.

Thanks, Danny.

[CLAY lMlTATES TRAlN WHlSTLE]

Hey.

[DANNY LAUGHS]

- Is that fun? Ha-ha-ha.
DANNY: Yeah.

CLAY:
Do it again.

[CLAY & DANNY LAUGHlNG]

Hello, Cassie.

Thank you for letting me barge in
on you like this, Blake.

But it'll be worth your while.
It's urgent.

- What could be so urgent?
- Alexis.

My dear, selfish, vindictive sister.

Oh, and what about Alexis?

I know she lied in court, Blake.

She perjured herself
on that witness stand

when she swore she'd been with you
the day of the fire.

- How do you know that?
- Because she was with me.

We weren't even in Denver
until later that night.

Well, if you weren't in Denver,
where were you?

We'd flown to Chicago together
on a shopping trip.

- Are you sure about that?
- Absolutely sure.

Chicago.

Yes, I'm beginning
to remember that now.

Yes, I didn't see Alexis
until the next day at the mortuary.

This can help, can't it?

We're talking about something that
happened more than years ago.

It's not that easy to prove that--

That you were in Chicago
on a certain day that long ago.

Yes, I know,
but I want to help you, Blake.

I want so much to help you,
and I'm going to. Somehow.

- You really mean that now?
- With everyhing that's in me.

Including all the hatred I have
for Alexis.

This isn't over, Blake.
Not so far as I'm concerned.

All right, Cassie,
I appreciate what you're saying.

But if we do go back into court,
we're going to need hard evidence.

Then I'm going to find it.

Anything to get back
at my dear sister.

So, what exactly do you want here,
Krystle?

A handout?

Why don't you see one of my people
in petty cash.

Tell them I sent you.

Your putdowns
are as empty as you are, Alexis.

- Don't you ever get tired of trying?
- As a matter of fact, no.

Putting you down is so simple,
it's one of life's pleasures.

I came here
to talk to you about Amanda.

Really?

Well, I see no reason to talk about
any of my children with you.

So you're wasting your time here.

Amanda's in a lot of pain
and I'm very worried about her.

Amanda is an adult.
She's proved that by her actions.

I have nothing to say to her, or you.

Dear God, when are you going to stop
being so selfish?

Alexis, she's your daughter
and she's suffering.

And the one thing she needs more
than anything else--

- Is my maternal forgiveness?
- Yes.

She's terribly guilty
about what happened with Dex.

And she's struggling desperately
for some sort of direction.

Now, you're the only one
who can give her what she wants.

I have more important things
on my mind than a cheating daughter.

You're not really so heartless,
are you, Alexis?

It's me you're reacting to,
my being here,

and not the fact that you don't care
about your daughter.

That is it, isn't it?

The day I answer to you, Krystle,
will be the day that I let up on Blake.

And that'll be never.

Now, you see that door?

You opened it when you came in,
so close it behind you.

"An emergency meeting of the
Denver-Carrington board of directors

will be held at p.m. today.

Your attendance is mandatory,"

Dominique just phoned me,
she got the same wire.

What's this all about, Dad?

Martin Gaines is demanding
that I resign as chairman of the board.

What?

Yes, he's lined up a couple of other
board members to vote with him.

I'll tell you, this sick plot
that Ben and Alexis have conjured up

to drag me through the dirt
is getting worse and worse.

Turning into a nightmare.

- What are you gonna do?
- I don't know.

But I've got until the meeting
to figure it out.

Can't let this break me.

Alexis is out for blood.

Well, that's just what
she's going to get, blood.

Hers and my brother's.

Hi. Is my husband in?

I'm afraid he stepped out,
Mrs. Carrington.

No problem. I'll wait inside.

"And I hereby sign over power of
attorney to my son, Adam Carrington.

Signed, Blake Carrington,"

Adam.

- Claudia.
- Steven.

- Where's Adam?
- I don't know.

- What are you doing in here?
- What am I doing here?

I think that's pretty obvious.
I'm waiting for Adam.

What's been obvious to me,
Claudia,

is that you've been working
on some plan against Adam.

Is that why you're here?
Are you looking for something?

Did you find it?

Your interest in me is very touching.

But whatever it is,
it's none of your affair.

And that's a word that I'm sure
you're more than familiar with.

Oh, Adam, we need to talk.

I'm due at a board meeting.
I haven't got time.

Adam.

You're going to have to make time.

Read this.

- How did you get this?
- That's not important.

What is important
is that we're partners now.

Equal partners.

And unless you do as I say,
I'm gonna show that to your father.

And he's not gonna like it one bit.

In fact, I can see the blood in his eyes
as we speak.

[lNTERCOM BUZZES]

Yes?

BLAKE: Time for the board meeting,
Adam. We'd better go.

I'll be right there.

That's right. Do as your father says
and be a good boy.

You'd better go.

The last time we talked,
you twisted everyhing that I said.

In fact,
you helped to destroy my marriage.

Well, that's yesterday's news,
when you were Mrs. Dexter.

I'm here for tomorrow's Mrs. Colby.

And the story behind the story
about you, Blake Carrington

and his brother Ben.

All right.

Everyhing that I said
and did in that courtroom

I did to right a terrible injustice
that had been done to Ben Carrington.

Now, you're a real fighter,
Mrs. Colby.

But this is one round I think you're
probably gonna lose in the long run.

What do you mean by that?

Well, I interviewed
Blake Carrington yesterday.

Yes, so I heard.

And what did dear Blake
have to say?

Well, he spent all of his time
talking about you, Mrs. Colby.

In fact, he said some
very inflammatory things about you.

Really? Heh.

I'd be quite fascinated to hear them.

I presume you have them on tape?

Oh, it's with our lawyers
to make sure that it's not libellous.

Ah.

Yeah, l-- Heh.

I don't often say this.

It'd be rotten
for my alleged k*ller reputation.

But I feel deeply sorry for you,

and how you're going to react
when you read that interview.

Do you?

All right, Mr. Wales,
turn up your tape recorder,

and I'll give you your interview.

Blake Carrington
is a tarnished human being.

He is cruel,
mercenary and unforgiving.

His public image as a benevolent
father figure is a complete sham.

He is responsible for his mother's
death and for the death of Ted Dinard.

And he is also responsible
for banishing me from Denver

and from my young children
by a vicious act of blackmail.

When the world learns
of his true colours,

he's going to be hated as few men
in our time have been hated.

[BANGS GAVEL]

Gentlemen, I would like to suggest
that we dispense with procedure,

and we get on with the business
at hand without further delay.

- I so move.
- Second.

- All in favour?
- Aye.

All opposed?

Martin, you were the one
that called this meeting.

Any particular reason?

I think everyone knows why, Blake.

I propose that you resign
as chairman of this board.

Effective immediately.
Or else that we take a vote on it.

Your reason being, Mr. Gaines?

GAlNES: Blake was involved
in a hearing recently.

There was bad publicity.

You mean my personal publicity,
of course.

GAlNES:
Yes, Blake.

I'm referring to how that personal
publicity rubbed off on this company.

And how the value
of Denver-Carrington's stock plunged

ever since that decision was read.

So now you think
because of this temporary setback

that I'm incapable
of running this company,

this company that I founded,
is that right?

No, of course not, Blake.

It's the company's image that I'm--
That we're talking about here.

As far as you're concerned,

we know you,
we know you're innocent.

We know you could never have
had anything to do

with your mother's death.

Mr. Gaines,
I'm not a member of this board,

and therefore
I can't vote on this issue,

if, in fact, it should come to a vote.

But I can charge you and anyone else
here who supports your stand

and your double talk
with inexcusable cowardice.

I resent that, young man.

Yes, you're right,
you're not a member of this board,

so kindly keep your opinions
to yourself.

I agree with Gaines, Adam.

Your personal feelings are your own.
We're talking business here.

You don't seem to understand.
Adam is talking about loyalty.

ADAM:
That's right, and I say that loyalty

transcends whatever sacrifices
you might temporarily have to make

so that my father
can put this company back on its feet.

Would you care to give us
a timetable on that loyalty?

I doubt that very much.

I think young Carrington's made
a point there.

And I don't.

[BANGS GAVEL]

Please listen to me.

I still have controlling interest
in this company,

so it's my image and my reputation
that are at stake here.

Now, as for this temporary
stock plunge, I intend to turn it around.

Not only that, but I guarantee
that Denver-Carrington stock

is going to be stronger
than it has ever been.

And this company is going
to be stronger than it has ever been.

Nice speech, Blake.

But would you tell me exactly

how you're gonna accomplish
such a miracle?

And that's what it would be,
a total miracle.

All right, I'll tell you how.

I plan to take over Colbyco.

[BOARD MEMBERS MURMURlNG]

A hostile takeover?

Well, it's not gonna be friendly,
I assure you of that.

Dad, Colbyco is bigger than we are.
A takeover is a risky move.

Are you sure
that's the way you wanna go?

Where do your loyalties lie now?
You work with Mother, with Father.

- Whose side are you on?
BLAKE: Adam, that's enough.

The issue here is Denver-Carrington
and only Denver-Carrington.

I would like to put this to a vote.

- So moved.
- Second.

All right.

Would those opposed to a takeover
signify by raising their hands, please.

All in favour of the takeover
signify by raising their hands.

Five to five.

Motion is passed. Six to five.

All right.

Now, once and for all, let's get them.

Let's get Colbyco.
