Okay, you got it.

Keep the yoke
light there.

Okay, you gotta straight and
level now. You're looking good.

Once in a while,
go glance out to the side.

Get the angle of
the wings and everything.

Okay, you're going into
a little bit of a dive.

Pull it up.
There you go.

Okay.

Get the right
angle of glide.

'You got a little cross wind'

'so make your corrections,
alright?'

We're tipping into
the wind as we go down.

Descend easy.
There you go.

'Good. Good.
You're doing fine.'

Okay. We're running
out of time. I better land it.

Oh, no, Jon. Come on,
let me land it, huh?

Remember, our friends
are watching.

You better land
the plane, Jon, okay?

Is that a rope ladder
you got?

Yeah. They rig it in a plane
for an air show stunt.

Art Scholl lowers in
and picks

up a guy
on a speeding car.

The guy hangs
from the plane

on a ladder?

Ssh, man, I wouldn't do that

for all the marbles
in the bag.

'Course, I would fly..

...if I were
given the chance.

Hey, you just
did fly, partner.

You know
what I mean, man.

You know, any other student,
ten hours, he solos.

Me, I got 15 hours,
all with you in the rear seat.

It's embarrassing.

Get your landing
smoothed out..

...then you'll solo.

Okay, CHiPs, that'll
work real fine.

Oh, Art, there's that tiger moth
I was telling you about.

'Good little ship.'

Oh, it sure is.

Here we are.
How'd you do, babe?

I'm alright, dad.

Oh, look.

Terri, the cop
over there.

Isn't that
Barry Baricza?

Yeah.
It's okay, dad.

- I'll handle it.
- No. Go on, dad.

I'll handle it.

Teddy, lemme, when I do
the show for you

you're not going to believe it.
A Fokker right up top--

Barry!

Barry!

Oh!

I don't believe it.
It's been ages.

What are you
doing here?

The air show.

I just flew in
with dad.

You what?

Arbin King
just landed.

I know.
You check in with him?

No. There's cops
out there.

And Terri, carrying on
with them like old home week.

You know that?

No, but don't
let it worry you.

Tomorrow it
won't matter.

The beauty of this
caper is that

we'll pull it off
with thousands watching.

And they'll never
know it happened.

Relax, Monk.

Relax and go
do your thing.

We better find out
what this is all about.

If you need any help,
ask Jon and Ponch, alright?

Let's get back
to work, huh?

See you guys later.

Barry!

Hi, Barry! I didn't even
recognize you.

Look at you. It must be
the uniform or something.

Of course, I just got in,
I was worried sick

about being a day late.

I heard you
were sick for real.

Something incurable,
like death.

Me?

You know what they say,
"Only the good die young."

Does my father know
you're back in town?

No. I didn't call him.
I just got in.

- But I'm gonna call him--
- Uh, dad, dad.

These are some
of Barry's friends.

- This is Officer Poncherello.
- Hi. How you doing?

- Hi.
- And this is Officer Baker.

- Hello.
- Nice meeting you.

You guys have something
to do with that?

It's our booth
for the air show.

The annual
recruiting drive.

Oh!

Oh, that's why you're
in the show, right?

Yeah.

Well, you people are going
to have to excuse me.

I'm going to have
to go sell my show.

- See ya.
- See ya.

See ya.

I hear they have coffee
in the pilot's lounge.

Hey, Monk, you got
here alright, huh?

Yeah, no problem.

Well, Brady's
on his way over.

Oh, Ted, listen, I want you
to meet Monk Adler.

- Monk, Ted Brady.
- Hi.

- Monk is my powder man.
- Powder man?

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

When Arbin King tells you
he's got an act

he's got an act.

Yeah, well,
let's get to it.

Should I ask you
if you're married?

I thought about it once..

...but she threw me down
for another guy.

Then she
and her father disappeared.

Barry, I was..

Oh, let's
not look back.

Let's enjoy now.

You look awful handsome
in that uniform.

Don't we all?

Are the others going
to be here tomorrow?

What do they do?

Traffic control..

...crowd control,
and recruiting.

One of our chiefs is going
to be guest of honor.

Hmm. I'll cheer for your act
if you cheer for ours.

- 'Promise?'
- Promise.

Listen, I really did hear
that Arbin had a stroke..

...or a heart att*ck?

Dad? Indigestion.

He's fine.

What is this act
of his?

Come and see.

Must have been really
something in its day.

Can you imagine flying
that thing

having somebody
sh**t at you?

Ssh.

I'm so glad to get that done.
That looks good.

- That looks nice, doesn't it?
- Yeah.

- Proud of yourself?
- Hey.

Hey, Ponch.

Saw you land
the Super Cub today.

Real smooth.

I guess you
finally soloed, huh?

Hey, if you guys want
any help around here

don't even mention
my flying lessons, clear?

Got you. Uh, we'll go get
the decorations.

He hasn't
soloed yet!

See what I mean, man?

People are starting
to talk.

Alright, what's your problem?

Uh, that Tiger Moth,
it's supposed to have

an airworthiness certificate
in the cockpit.

Doesn't have one.

What are you going to do?
Write him a ticket?

I set up three
beautiful b*mb blasts.

Fire, smoke...you'll hear
echoes for a month.

Yeah. Now, the bombs
are phony, of course

but Terri is gonna drop them
out of the rear cockpit

'just like they used to
and then I 'll trigger'

the expl*si*n from
the front cockpit

with this radio-control
device, you see?

Then, after the plane

'that is, is clear
of the expl*si*n..'

Now, you're gonna
have fireworks

you're going to have
aerial dogfights, everything.

For 20 minutes if you want.
It's gonna be terrific.

We're gambling every dime
we could scrape together

that the crowd will like
the act and dad can get

some bookings
and make it pay.

He's had some bad
breaks, Mr. Brady.

This might be
his last chance.

I'll buy it.

Oh, thanks, Ted.

We got some paperwork
to do. Come on.

- Yeah.
- Let's go to the office.

- See you later, Arbin.
- Alright, Barry.

Do I get that you're going
to be up there tossing bombs

out of that
flying orange crate?

Ha. The girl who was
once afraid to fly.

Darling, I 'm still afraid
but dad can't

afford to hire
anybody else.

I could get you
a volunteer.

Uh, I've rehearsed it.

Timing's important.

In me he trusts.

Please say I'll
see you tomorrow.

I'll be around.

- Hi.
- Hi.

Didn't mean
to barge in.

No problem.

I was looking for you,
I know the Kings

are your friends and
I didn't want you to think

I was nosing
around, okay?

Okay, you're not nosing.

So what?

Well, maybe flying
with Ponch

has made me
disaster-conscious

but I don't think
the Tiger Moth

is certified to fly.

Hey, who are those guys?

'Sheriff's department rescue.'

'Rehearsing for tomorrow.'

Hey, maybe you could
learn to come down a rope.

Then you'd never have
to learn to land.

Grossman, you're
walking on eggs.

You know, with all
this excitement going on

I wish we had something
to make our booth

really special, spectacular.

Dancing girls, maybe?

I got it!
Cookies!

If you say
chocolate chip..

Uh, is Jon around?

I'm waiting for him.

Yeah, well, tell him
Ted Brady called.

Arbin King does have a current
certificate for the Moth.

He just forgot
to put it in the plane.

And his license
is limited

but it's okay
for the air show act.

Got you.
Thanks, sarge.

Why did Ted Brady
call Jon?

Because Jon told Ted
that he thought

there might be something
wrong with that airplane.

Jon should have
told Baricza.

The Baricza's and
the King's go way back.

Arbin King flew combat
with Bear's father in Korea.

- Who told you?
- Baricza.

And he and Terri were once
a very serious item.

Yeah, I know.
Barry loves Terri.

Until she dropped him
like a...hot coal.

- Who told you?
- Baricza.

So she was
in love with love

and he was too serious
at the time.

Now she knows
she needs somebody

steady and responsible

and just as she
starts to find him

you go snooping around
behind her back.

Oh, now, wait
a minute...Bonnie.

In the first place,
I didn't snoop anywhere

and in the second place,
you heard Getraer.

There's nothing to worry about
in the first place.

Well, if you hadn't let Jon
shoulder the whole thing

then maybe you'd find that out
before you cause such a mess!

Honestly, I'll never
understand men!

Hey, who's Bonnie
so sore at?

You or maybe me.

So help me, Jon

you get me
in more trouble.

A shipment comes
in at 1:15.

Supposedly to be
flown out after the show.

There will be agents with it

so I'll have to set
the locks for real.

I can blow 'em
in my sleep.

You promised me
50 grand for this job.

If I'm gonna gamble
on getting paid

I think I got a right
to know exactly

what we're stealing.

This company is sometimes
chartered by the government

by banks, by investment
firms to transport

large sums of money.

Or, in this case, 500,000
in negotiable securities.

And I only get
ten percent?

Do you want to go back
to Nevada state prison

try for another escape?

Okay. Okay.

Now..

Dad and I
are in the British moth.

We make three passes
at the German target

three explosions in here

two doors and one safe, timed
with the blasts of the bombs.

I'll knock out
the alarm systems.

Now, the Fokker
sh**t us down

the Newport shows up.
Dogfight.

Dad and I land
in a field we picked.

One mile
north of here.

You got 12 minutes
after the third blast

to drive over
to the field.

Drop the loot and keep going.
I'll pick it up.

And where are
the cops? Asleep?

They're watching
the show..

...signing recruits.

They've seen
that car of mine.

After the getaway,
we change to my car.

They find yours abandoned.

What do you do
with the loot?

One briefcase behind
the seat in the Tiger Moth

on the field
on public display.

We fly away
after the show.

We meet up with the French

and sell the securities.

And fly to Barstow tomorrow

and pay you off.

You could decide
not to come.

Oh, I could run out
on you eight days a week

but you're with a man
I'd never double-cross..

...my husband.

There is nothing wrong
with the Tiger Moth.

What about
Baricza's feelings?

Now, I agree
with Bonnie.

Baricza should have
told Ted.

Uh, that's not
what I said.

I said Jon should
have told Baricza.

- I told you, I did tell Bear.
- You did?

He did if this is
about the Tiger Moth.

I asked him to tell Ted.

Jon, why didn't
you say so?

Because nobody
asked him.

- I'm getting a migraine.
- Hey, hold it.

How can you chew on
each other over the Kings?

They're total
strangers to you.

I think they misunderstood
the problem.

So I have a problem?
I'm not the first.

I always thought when
one of us got in trouble

the others closed ranks.

They were trying,
what got them uptight was

they thought
Jon was to blame.

I think it might have
started when I said--

Hey, it's over, okay?

Hey, let her
apologize.

Okay. Straighten me
out on Terri.

Is she something
special to you?

'I mean, the way
it looked when you met..'

- Didn't make sense?
- Right.

And her flying
doesn't make sense.

Arbin used to come to us
when he really needed a job

fly for my dad,
crop dusting, whatever.

He got into a scrape
with the law.

I thought it might
hurt my dad.

I asked Terri about it.

We didn't break up,
we exploded.

I thought she was
gonna k*ll me.

'And I haven't
seen her since..'

'...till yesterday.'

If you need reminding..

...uh, we're due
at the air show.

And remember,
Chief Martin

and some other VIP's.,
and your sergeant

will be watching
your every move.

I will meet you there in
one hour and 28 minutes exactly.

Everybody pick up
a box in the lounge, okay?

Load it into Bonnie's car.

Box of what?

Cookies.

- Are you going with us?
- To help with the cookies.

Chocolate chip.

"Chip."

It was Grossie's idea.

Sarge, could we have
a minute?

Yeah.

Here you go,
Bonnie. Come on.

In the car,
in the car.

I hear you took another
flying lesson yesterday.

Back off, Harlan,
I've taken all the kidding

I'm going
to take about that.

Oh, you haven't
soloed yet, huh?

I warn you, man.

Hey, I didn't mean it
in a kidding way.

Well, I don't care.
Just knock it off.

Alright. I'll never
mention it again.

I just hope your landings
are smoothing out.

The Tiger Moth is registered
to a company in new Mexico

that Arbin King
is involved with.

The plane's valued
at $40,000.

Yet he's financing the whole act
with out-of-pocket money.

And they're still pleading
last-chance poverty.

Is that all?

Sarge, it's hard
to blow the whistle

on old friends
even doubtful ones.

But my feeling about
this is so strong.

Well, that's really all
you have, no evidence.

Maybe this,
uh, feeling

is more personal
than you realize, Bear.

No. Apart from that--

Apart from that,
it's not a CHP matter

and everything indicates
that there's nothing wrong.

Then why do I feel like I'm
sitting on a keg of dynamite?

Because you're on your way
to the airport.

It's your assignment.
Now, get moving.

Are you coming?

You know, you two
don't have a leg to stand on

but I'd never ignore
your instincts.

I'll see you later.

Yeah. Run a check through NCIC
and the FAA in Fresno

on a pilot
named Arbin King.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen

to Rialto's Annual
International Air Show.

'An assemblage of the finest
pilots and planes.'

'The most thrilling
air show acts available.'

'Ladies and gentlemen, we invite
you to watch and enjoy.'

'Here it comes, the US. Army,
C-130 Hercules.'

'Would you welcome
our color guard'

'from the United States
Marine Corps'

'ladies and gentlemen.'

'Let's hear it for them.'

'The Rialto International
Air Show, ladies and gentlemen.'

'This show is one
of the most popular shows'

'of its kind in the area.'

'Last year, we had..'

Terri, listen, I'm sorry,
but I 'm worried.

There's too many
cops around here.

Too many cops around
the T&F building.

They're not on guard
or on patrol

or expecting anything.

Right, with
Barry Baricza

he could get his nose
out of joint at any time.

Forget it.

He's bedazzled.

Eating out of my hand.

The US Army parachute team,
ladies and gentlemen.

'The Golden Knights.'

'They've produced 16 national'

'and five world
parachuting champions.'

'Performed in all 50 states
and 31 foreign countries'

'for nearly 120 million people.'

'Look at him hit that target.
Wow, right on.'

'And now, for the last
of the Golden Knights'

'comes Art Scholl's
famous flying dog...Erin.'

'Earning her wings
with her very first'

'free-fall parachute jump.'

'All eyes on
the main runway now'

for the incredible
world-famous aerobatic Eagles.

'One of the nation's
finest aerobatic teams'

'in a thrilling demonstration
of precision flying.'

'Three aircraft
performing as one.'

'These aircraft
are specially constructed'

'to withstand the enormous
pressure put on them.'

'The wing walker,
ladies and gentlemen.'

'A hangover from the good old
barnstorming days.'

'And speaking of hangovers,
this guy's gonna have one.'

'A headstand. How about that?'

Will the owner of
a yellow compact

license number, 782OHP,
please move your car?

You're blocking Gate 8.

'Now, ladies and gentlemen,
on the main runway'

'here he comes.'

'The star of this
or any other air show'

'the world's greatest
solo aerobatic pilot'

'Art Scholl.'

Okay. I got that.
Yeah, thanks.

Yeah.

'A lesson on how
to stop in midair.'

'The hammerhead stall.'

'To recover?'

'No problem.
That's all there is to it.'

That yellow compact,
license number, 782OHP

is still blocking
Gate 8.

It's going to
have to be towed away

unless you move it.

Alright. Thanks.

Well, this is what
we got on both

the father
and the daughter.

Hey, Bear, here they are.
Been looking for you.

I think Baricza's
got something.

- What you got, Bear?
- Monk Adler, King's powder man.

He has to have a license.

Has anybody checked him out?

Well, that's easy.

The yellow car is going
to be removed from Gate 8

unless you go there
and move it at once, folks.

Please cooperate with us.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen,
eyes to the skies.

Art performs a maneuver
few men dare to try..

...the dangerous,
exciting Lomcevak.

Okay. Thank you.

There's no one
named Monk Adler licensed

to handle expl*sives in
the state of California.

Well, if it looks
like a skunk

smells like a skunk,
acts like a skunk--

Okay, Frank, Frank.

Barry, I ran some checks
on the Kings.

They're clean
with the FAA.

But they've had a lot
of trouble with the law.

Three years ago, Terri stood
trial on a felony bunko charge.

'She was acquitted
along with her codefendant'

a certain Lester Neely..

...her husband.

Uh, you take
the Kings.

You take
Monk Adler.

Go on.

'Now, you all observe
the bright red ribbon.'

'and attempts to pick up
the ribbon, flying upside down.'

'Hey, who's that with Art,
his copilot?'

Hey, wait a minute.
Stop that plane!

Hey, stop it!

'Now, ladies and gentlemen
we turn back the time'

'to the very beginning
of aerial combat.'

1915, the first world w*r.

The Arbin King Aerial Circus
will present

an authentic drama
of att*ck..

...reprisal, and victory.

'Across the way,
a German amm*nit*on dump.'

'A British Tiger Moth
has found it.'

'The Tiger Moth
turns for a second run'

'on the German target.'

'And now for the final touch,
a third b*mb.'

Come on. I don't think
that was an echo.

Neely, here.

Hey! Stop! Police!

Come on.

'Uh-oh. The Tiger Moth is hit.'

'Curse you, Red Baron.'

'Limping away,
will he crash-land'

'live to fight another day?'

'That's all
for the Englishman.'

'But watch out, Baron.'

'Here comes a Frenchman
in a Newport 28.'

They bombed T&F!
Stole a blue sedan!

'Don't know which
way they went!'

We'll try
to spot them

from the air.

Rialto tower, this
is Super Cub 6734 Lima.

Police emergency.

Keep those old fighters
in the air

clear me
for emergency takeoff.

'Rialto Tower
to performing aircraft'

'clear the runway area
for emergency takeoff.'

'You're on a hold
until further.'

Something's gone wrong.

No, it hasn't!

Go to the field!

There, Jon.
I think that's them.

Rialto tower, this is 3-4 Lima,
alert all CHP units.

'Suspect just turned north
off of Perneet road'

'one mile west of the field.'

'Folks, we told you
we were gonna have to'

'move that yellow car.'

That's Monk's car.

It's all over.

No, dad.
They'll get a car.

Go to the field.
They'll be there!

Sour. It's all gone sour.

If the owner will contact us
here at the stand

we'll tell him how to get his
car back, just as soon as..

That chopper
in trouble, Art?

'Watch out.
He's losing power.'

'That cable, can he
get rid of it?'

Watch out! He's going
to lose it! Watch out.

Dad? Dad!

Dad! Dad, what's wrong?

Mayday! Mayday!
This is the Tiger Moth!

The pilot's
just fainted or something!

'I don't know how to fly!'

Help me! Please help me!

'Okay, Tiger Moth,
we'll get you down.'

'Just take the stick.
I repeat.'

'Take the stick
and hold it steady.'

- 'Do you read that?'
- Yes. Yes!

Rialto tower,
this is 3-4 Lima.

We have the mayday
in sight.

We're able to assist. Over.

'That's a roger,
3-4 Lima.'

'I'm holding
all traffic.'

'Okay, Terri, this
is Officer Baker.'

'I'm over and behind you.
Do you understand me?'

Yes! Please help me!

Okay, Terri. You have it
straight and level now.

Just hold the stick
right there. Do not move it.

Okay, Ponch, throw out
the rope ladder.

Alright.
Now what?

Now, partner,
you're gonna solo.

Okay. Let me have it.

Not this plane.
That one.

That one?

Down the ladder
into the cockpit.

Oh, no, man.
Not me. Never.

You go down
the ladder.

Never forgive myself
if I let you k*ll me.

Yeah, well, don't think of you.
Think of me, huh?

I can match every move
that Terri makes.

You're not good
enough yet.

And I 'm worse
at climbing down ladders.

I'm not gonna
do it, Jon.

And that's
absolutely final.

'Please! Please hurry!'

Please! I'm dizzy!
I'm getting weak!

You sure
we can do this?

I'm sure
I can do my part.

Okay. Alright.

I'll go down the ladder,
just this once.

Remember that, only once.

'Okay, Terri, just keep the
stick right where you have it.'

Straight and level now.

Okay. Hold on,
no matter what happens.

Keep it steady.

I'll take over.

Rialto tower,
this is the Super Cub.

We have a pilot
in the Tiger Moth.

We're A-okay up here.
Did you catch that act?

'Negative. You were
too far away.'

But how did you
get into the Moth?

Never mind, uh,
you'd never believe it.

Is that Jon or Ponch
in the Tiger Moth?

Can't you tell?

You guys
are really crazy.

Hey, I soloed.

Hey, will somebody
help me, please?

I'm running out of cookies.

Hey, Grossie,
I soloed!

Jon, you can certify
I did solo, right?

Uh-huh. How did you like
the way Ponch came down?

- You call that a landing?
- It's a new technique.

It's called
controlled crash.

Yeah, right. Landings
I can work on later.
