Mr. Sparks: When a grown-up
hero like Dr. Inventorman

comes to visit
with my students,

it's always a great day,
without question.

Or sometimes
with lots of questions.

- Ooh, ooh!
What's it like to be famous?

- How did you learn to fly?

- Do you know other
grown-up heroes?

- Fun, practice, and, yes.

- Wow. Dr. Inventorman, you're
my gadget-making hero.

I try to make inventions
just like you.

- Wonderful.
Let's see what you've got.

- This is my latest design,
the Lacer Racer--

the fastest way to tie shoes.

- Ah, a gadget that ties
your shoelaces for you?

Brilliant!
Can you show us how it works?

- Really?
- Yes.

Let's see it in action.

Here.
It can tie my shoelaces.

Okay. Here goes.

[quirky music]

♪ ♪

- [grunting]

Sara: It tied his shoelaces,

but it tied them together.

- That's not
how it's supposed to work.

I'll turn it off.

[gasps]

♪ ♪

Uh-oh.

♪ ♪

- [gasps]
It's after our shoelaces!

- [squeaks]
- Look out!

♪ ♪

- [grunts]

Come...back...here!

♪ ♪

- My Lacer Racer!
It's getting away!

- It's an invention emergency!

Coming, Mr. Sparks?

- I-I'm a bit tied up
at the moment,

but, uh, who's the crew
who knows what to do?

[dramatic musical sting]

all:
Sparks' Crew to the rescue!

- And Dr. Inventorman, too!

- [grunts]
Good luck!

- [squeaks]
- Aah!

♪ ♪

- [squeaks]

- Follow that Lacer Racer!

♪ ♪

- Huh?

♪ ♪

- Uh-oh.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

♪ ♪

- I shall catch
that tiny tying tyrant!

- [squeaks]

- Uh, you know,
that Lacer Racer thingy.

Bubble up!

♪ ♪

[groans]
Or bubble out of here.

- [squeaks]

♪ ♪

- [gasps]
There it goes!

Mr. Sparks: My students chased
that Lacer Racer

all over the place.

Lucita:
Oh, no.

Mr. Sparks: But in this case,
they couldn't keep pace.

- Oof!
[sighs]

I'm okay.
Go get it, Sara!

- Hmm.
I'm on it!

♪ ♪

Got it!
Nope.

Got it!
Nope.

♪ ♪

- Whoa!
- [grunting]

- Oops.
- [squeaks]

- [groans] My Lacer Racer
is causing big problems.

How do we stop it?

- Well, sometimes the best way
to catch a gadget

is with another gadget.

I'll try my Extend-o-Net.

- And I'll try
my Rope Launcher.

- Ooh, nice!

♪ ♪

[metallic thud]
- I think I caught it.

Oops.
Sorry, Fur Blur.

♪ ♪

- Lacer Racer,
you've met your match!

♪ ♪

Uh-oh.

♪ ♪

Oh, man.

♪ ♪

- Aw, what have I done?

My Lacer Racer
is out of control.

Not even our super gadgets
could catch it.

- Ah, but, AJ,
as an inventor,

surely you know that there are
certain superpowers

that anyone can use.

- Of course.
We can use our...

all:
Superpowers of Science!

- Yes!

- Okay, so we know
what the problem is.

- Yeah, that Lacer Racer
is tying up the town.

- And we have to stop it,
but we can't catch it.

- Whenever we get close,
it comes after our laces.

- Then what
if we design a trap

that can catch it
from far away?

Thought projecting!

If we prop the box up
with my Rope Launcher,

like this, we can pull the rope
from far away

and catch the Racer.

- Great idea, AJ.

- [chuckles]
Yes.

And how do great inventors know
if an idea works?

- We test it out!
- Let's do this!

♪ ♪

- How does it look, Fur Blur?
- [squeaks]

♪ ♪

[both whimper]

- It's headed this way.

- Everyone,
take your positions.

♪ ♪

Ready, set...

Huh?

all:
Whoa!

♪ ♪

- [squeaks]

- Come back here, you!

- Ah, my trap didn't work
like I thought it would.

- You know,
most of my inventions

don't work right
at first either.

- Really?
But you're a great inventor.

- Oh, well, yes, I am.

But when I design something,

I often have to make a change
or rearrange,

then try and try gain.

- So maybe
that's what I should do

with the design for my trap.

Make a change or rearrange
and try and try again?

- Exactly!
That's what great inventors do.

- Okay.
Thought projecting!

My design didn't work

because the Lacer Racer tied up
the rope.

So what if we change the design

so that the Lacer Racer
can't tie up the rope?

We put the rope in the air
instead of on the ground.

- Ah, yes.

That way, the Lacer Racer
can't reach the rope.

- Then when it drives
underneath,

we can let go of the rope
and catch it.

- AJ, this could work.

Let's share the new design
with your friends

and then test it out.

- I hope this works.
Now, where's that Lacer Racer?

♪ ♪

AJ: There!
- [grunts]

- Everyone get ready.

♪ ♪

Sara:
Here it comes!

♪ ♪

And there it goes!

- Why didn't it
go under the box?

♪ ♪

- Oh, no, not again.

[screaming]

♪ ♪

- The Lacer Racer
won't go under the box.

[groans]
This is hopeless.

- Hopeless?
No.

When our designs don't work
right, do we give up?

- No.

We make a change or rearrange
and try and try again.

- Right.

- Okay, then let's use
our Superpowers of Science

and make sense
of what happened.

- Thought projecting!

Our first trap didn't work

because the rope was
on the ground.

Sara: The Lacer Racer tied it
in a knot and us, too!

AJ: For our second trap,
we made a change.

The rope was in the air.

Benny:
Yeah, but the Lacer Racer

didn't go under the box.

Lucita:
It chased

after Dr. Inventorman's laces
instead.

- Uh, let's, uh,
skip this part.

[clears throat]
- But it wanted your laces.

So maybe we need
to make another change,

like put something it wants
under the box.

- Yeah,
something it will go to.

- Something
it will want to tie up.

- Like shoelaces.

♪ ♪

- Or even better,
giant shoelaces.

[cheering]

- Another great idea.
Let's test it out!

- I'm on it.
Shoe!

♪ ♪

I'm just gonna borrow this
for a bit.

♪ ♪

Hey, over here!

♪ ♪

- We've got some ridiculously
large laces for you!

♪ ♪

- Oh, this way!
[grunts]

♪ ♪

- And...

now!

♪ ♪

[cheering]

[peaceful music]

- Great trap, AJ.
- Thanks.

I'm really glad I kept trying.

- Yes!
You made a change...

- And rearranged...

all:
And tried and tried again.

- And that is what
we great inventors do.

[upbeat music]

♪ ♪

Now, let's get this Lacer Racer
invention back to your school.

Maybe if we work together,

we can make a change
to the design

and get it to work right, too.

- You and me?

Working on an invention
together?

Oh, boy.
Let's go!

Mr. Sparks: So, if you ever
design something

and it doesn't work,
do what AJ did.

Make a change or rearrange
and tie and tie--

[chuckling]
I mean try and try again.

[cheering]

♪ ♪

all: ♪ We all belong
at Hero Elementary ♪

Mr. Sparks: Mr. Scoops was
well-known in City Town

for his ice cream truck,

but he was about to start
a hot new business

that was very cool.

- Stevie Heat, my friend,

this is an extra toppings,
extra sprinkles kind of day.

With this new cart, we can sell
ice cream right on the beach!

- Thanks for the job,
Mr. Scoops, sir!

- Here, have a taste
of what you'll be selling.

- Oh, sorry.

My super heat hands do that
when I'm nervous.

I'll keep my mitts on.

- There's nothing
to be nervous about.

You'll do great.

After all, you're
in the ice cream business now.

See, it's official.

Now, come to the truck
and get some more ice cream

for our new cart.

- Yes, sir.

[wind whistling]

Got to go.

I'm off to sell ice cream
in the park now.

Have a scoop-tacular day!
[engine turning over]

- Oh, boy.

I'm in
the ice cream business now.

[upbeat music]

Mr. Sparks:
Later that day,

my class was getting down
to business

with some hero training.

[all grunting]

- Yes!

- [squeaks excitedly]

[squeaks disappointedly]
- Uh-oh.

Fur Blur can't make it
across the puddle.

- I got this.

♪ ♪

- [squeaks]

- [blows whistle]
Nice work.

- Making a bridge
was a great idea, Sara.

- Yes.

Because sometimes
when you can't find a solution,

you have to make one.

[drone beeping]

Sara:
The Sparkinator!

- [gasps]
There must be trouble!

♪ ♪

- Hey, that's Stevie Heat
at the beach.

- Oh, no!
This is terrible!

- He seems really upset
about something.

Maybe we can help.

- Well, who's the crew
who knows what to do?

[dramatic musical sting]

all:
Sparks' Crew to the rescue!

- Oh, no.
I can't believe this.

[whooshing approaching]

- Don't worry, Stevie.
Sparks' Crew is here to help.

- Oh, good.

I'm supposed to sell ice cream
for Mr. Scoops.

- Sounds delicious so far.

- But look what happened.

[dramatic music]

Benny:
[gasps] Oh, no!

Lucita:
All the ice cream melted.

- My first day
and already a disaster.

♪ ♪

Whoops.

- So it was your heat hands
that melted the ice cream?

- No, no, no, no.

I was wearing these mitts
the whole time, see?

The heat can't get through.

- He's right.

- So, if you didn't melt
the ice cream, what did?

- I don't know.

But if we don't find out,

Mr. Scoops will think
it was my heat hands, for sure.

- Don't worry, Stevie.

I bet we can figure this out

- Let's start by investigating.

We'll look for evidence--
you know, clues.

[upbeat music]

- Aah!

[wind whistling]

- I don't notice any clues.

Except--
What's that for?

- Oh, that holds the umbrella.

Wait.
Where's the umbrella?

There's supposed to be
an umbrella here.

- Maybe you forgot it?

- No, it was on the
ice cream cart this morning.

It looks like this, see?

- Ha!

The umbrella's got
cute ice cream cones on it.

- So, if the umbrella was here,
where did it go?

- Now we've got two problems.

- I can't believe this.

The ice cream melts,
and the umbrella goes missing?

Oh, I am not having
a scoop-tacular day.

- Don't worry, Stevie.
We'll figure this out.

Let's keep using our
Superpowers of Science.

- Okay,
how about we ask questions,

like why does an ice cream cart
need an umbrella anyway?

Umbrellas are
for when it rains.

- And it's definitely
not raining today.

- Maybe people use umbrellas
for other reasons.

- Yeah,
like the umbrella over there.

[wind whistling]

- [gasps] You mean the umbrella
that was over there.

Come on!

Whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa!

- [gasps]

[grunts]

- [groans]

♪ ♪

- Huh?
[shouts]

- Ooh!

[grunts] Got it.

- [gasps]

Oh, thank you
for saving my umbrella.

- You're welcome.

- Great work, everyone.
- We did it!

- Uh-oh.

I just found an umbrella
that we can't save.

Look!

Sara:
Ooh.

- Are those ice cream cones?

- Yep.

It looks like the umbrella
from Stevie's cart.

- The wind
must've blown it away, too.

- I'll get it.

Here we go.

Ooh, ah, eeh, ah!
Hot, hot, hot, hot!

[sighs]

Hey, the sand here isn't hot,
but the sand here is.

Ow, ow, ow!

[sighs]
Not hot.

Hot! What's going on?

- I notice

the hot sand is in the sun,

but the cool sand isn't.

♪ ♪

I think the sun
is heating up the sand.

- Ow!
The sun heats up rocks, too.

- So, if the sun can heat up
sand and rocks, then...

[gasps]

I think I know what happened
to the ice cream.

Come on!

[upbeat music]

Stevie, this ice cream cart

has been out in the sun
all day, right?

- Yeah.

- So I predict that the cart
is pretty hot.

- Ooh, ow, ow, ow!
It's hot, all right.

- Huh?
What's making the cart so hot?

- It's the heat from...

the sun!

- Your umbrella was supposed
to block the hot sunlight.

- Ooh, like that umbrella
over there.

That lady is using it
to stay out of the sun

and keep her cool.

- But with no umbrella,
the sun heated up your cart...

- Which made
the ice cream melt.

- Oh, no.

What's Mr. Scoops gonna say
about this?

- About what, Stevie?

- Mr. Scoops!
[stutters]

- Well, freeze my knees.

Stevie,
you have so many customers.

And on your very first day.

- [stutters]
The thing is, I--

- Good thing I brought you
some more ice cream to sell.

- More?

Um, Mr. Scoops,
I have to tell you--

- I know, I know!

Being in the ice cream business
sure can be sweet!

[chuckles]
Well, back to the truck!

Stay cool!

- [stutters and groans]

Now what am I got to do?

Oh, this ice cream's
gonna melt, too!

- We won't let
that happen, Stevie.

We'll think of something.

- Let's think fast
before that ice cream melts.

- We've got to keep
the hot sunlight off of it.

- If only my umbrella
wasn't missing.

- Well,
it's not exactly missing.

♪ ♪

It was in the lake.

We think the wind
blew it there.

- Oh, no.

Mr. Scoops will never let me
run the ice cream cart again.

- Maybe we can still use it.

♪ ♪

[all groan]

[wind whistling]
- Or maybe not.

- Maybe we can find another way
to block the hot sunlight.

AJ, do you have any gadgets
that can help us?

- Hmm.
I don't think so.

I've got my Zoomoculars,
my Arm-o-Matic,

my Power Parasail--

- Power Parasail?

What happens
when you press this button?

- Wait!
[screaming]

- AJ!

- Whoa, oh, oh!

[screaming]

♪ ♪

Whoa!

Aah!

Phew.

Aah!

- Sorry about that.

- Next time you ask,

- Wait for an answer?

[chuckles]

- Hmm.

I just figured out a solution
to our problem.

Come with me.

- Wow, this is perfect!

- Well, sometimes
when you can't find a solution,

you have to make one.

- Stevie,
I must've had brain freeze,

because I forgot
to give you this.

- Huh?
- Ice?

- It's supposed to go
in the cart.

Ice helps keep
the ice cream cold.

Well, ice plus an umbrella
to block the hot sun--

What happened to the umbrella?

- Uh, well,
the thing is, uh--

Oh, Mr. Scoops!

The old umbrella blew away,

then the sun
heated up the cart,

and the ice cream melted,

and, oh, I'm really, really,
really sorry, sir.

And I understand
if you don't want me

to sell ice cream ever again.

- Stevie,

none of that was your fault.

In the ice cream biz,

sometimes things
just melt down.

- So you're not mad?

- Heavenly treats, no.

I know you had
a rocky road today,

but thanks for being honest
and giving me the real scoop.

- Um, there is still some
ice cream that didn't melt.

[giggles]

- That's because
the Sparks' Crew

made us a new umbrella
to block the hot sunlight.

- Well, isn't that
the cherry on top?

This calls for a celebration.

Free ice cream for all!

- Yes!
- Awesome!

- Ice cream!
Wow!

Mr. Sparks: So, if you want
to eat a sweet, frozen treat,

find a way
to block the sun's heat.
