♪ "Wild Kratts" ♪

Martin: All around
North America,

so many species live in
their own special habitats,

but there's a creature that
you'll find almost everywhere.

♪ (upbeat music) ♪

It's us, the Kratt Brothers!

Chris: I'm Chris...

Martin: I'm Martin, and we
are on a quad adventure.

Chris: A vehicle with four
wheels is called a quad.

Martin: Let's get these
four wheels moving!

♪ (exciting music) ♪

Four wheels give us traction.

(motors revving)

Chris: Maneuverability.

Martin: Speed.

Chris: Stability.

(motors revving)

And the adaptability to
travel in kinds of terrain.

Quads are so cool!

Martin: And so many cool
creatures as called quadrupeds.

Chris: A quadruped is an animal
that walks on four feet.

Martin: It's a very
successful body form.

There are quadrupeds
living all over the world

in all kinds of habitats.

Chris: Like grizzly
bears on the run.

Martin: Bison roaming
on the prairies.

Chris: The speedy
cheetahs of the Serengeti.

Or tortoises learning to
take their first step.

Martin: One of my favorite
quadrupeds is the coyote.

Chris: Oh yeah, coyotes can
live in almost any habitat

in North America.

From the eastern woodlands...
to the northern prairies.

Martin: To the
southwestern deserts.

And even the suburbs
of big cities.

They are so adaptable.

Chris: Imagine if we had the
adaptability of the coyote.

Martin: Imagine if
we had coyote power.

Martin/Chris: What if?

(zap)

Martin: Adapto the Coyote

Aviva: Martin, the
sun's coming up.

I think we really
should get going.

Martin: Yeah me too.

We stopped Zach for now, right?

Aviva: We sure did, so now
can we get out of here

and away from his mansion?

Martin: Yeah, because
every time we look that way,

we have to see his face.

Aviva: Ugh. So smug.

Martin: It's even worse
on the Zach signal.

Aviva: Something we
don't want to see.

Martin: Yeah, let's get going.

Koki, time to take off.

Koki: Alright, where
do you want to go?

There are lots of places.

Chris: Hmmm, we could go....

Jimmy Z: Well I want
to go downtown.

This pizza's okay, but...

The best is at my
favorite pizza place

right next to the
park in the city.

Mmmmm pizza.

Chris: The city?

Well, there are
creatures in the city...

Martin: But not a super lot.

Not like...a rainforest beach.

Sitting in the shade
of the tropical trees

and dipping my toes
in the sea water,

with all sorts
of creatures around.

Chris: I was thinking
more along the lines of...

the northern prairies.

I want to take my new snowmobile

and zoom through
the powdery snow.

Aviva: I'd like to take
it a different direction...

to the desert!

I want dry air and sunshine.

My vote is the Sonoran Desert.

Koki: I just want to stay put.

Too much traveling and I still
want to keep an eye on Zach

to make sure that he doesn't try
to steal our inventions again,

and there's a beautiful eastern
woodland right out there.

Plenty of nice
creatures around here.

Why do we have to go anywhere?

So I'm just staying here.

Aviva: Okay, but we
still have a problem.

Where are we going to go?

When we all want to be
somewhere different?

Martin: Well if we went from
eastern woodland to city,

to prairie, to desert,
to rainforest,

we could do a tour
of all the places.

Koki: That'll take a month.

Chris: Make sure you
pack your warm stuff.

Aviva: I really don't want
to go where it's cold.

The desert is nice and warm.

Jimmy Z: Now I'm a city guy.

Martin: Hmm?

Martin: (giggling) Shhhh.

(giggling)

Martin/Chris: (giggling)

Aviva: What are you laughing at?

Martin: (laughter)
Aviva: It's not funny.

Chris: Hey Jimmy, your
pizza's getting cold.

Jimmy Z: Huh? Hey my
pizza...my last slice!

Where'd it go?

Martin/Chris: (laughter)

Chris: It went that way.

Martin: Yeah I actually saw your
pizza slice walk out the door.

Jimmy Z: No!

Where's my pizza?

Aviva: Did you find it?

Jimmy Z: That dog has it.

Martin: That's a coyote
pup who stole your pizza.

Aviva/Koki/Jimmy Z:
Coyotes eat pizza ?

Martin: Well they're omnivores.

Omnivores eat pretty
much everything,

just like most people.

Chris: They can do
just about anything.

Martin: Live anywhere.

Chris: And do what they
need to do to survive.

Martin: Oh yeah, coyotes are
super adaptable creatures.

Jimmy Z: Adaptawhat?
Martin: Adaptable.

It means when you can
change your behavior

to different situations,

you learn how to do new and
different things to survive.

(gasp)

I'm going to name you...Adapto!

You're only a pup and
you already learned

how to steel food
from a Tortuga.

Tricky, clever and adaptable.

Adapto the coyote!

Adapto's mom: (wolf call)

Martin: Oh mom's calling.

See you later Adapto.

Jimmy Z: Well, even though
Adapto ate my pizza,

coyotes are pretty cool.

Chris: Yeah and they
have an amazing story.

Come on, I'll show you.

Coyotes once lived
on the prairie, here.

Other predators like wolves,
mountain lions, and bears

were spread all
over the continent.

Martin: But then the
European settlers arrived.

They wanted the land
all for themselves,

so they tried to make
the predators go away.

Chris: And a lot of the
creatures disappeared.

Martin: But not the coyotes.

For some reason, coyotes
didn't disappear.

In fact, the opposite.

Coyote numbers grew and coyotes
spread all over North America.

Aviva: What? That's amazing.
How did they do it?

Chris: Well their
adaptability for one.

Martin: They eat
almost everything,

live in about any
habitat, and are tricky.

Tricky tricksters.

Chris: So why don't we go to

all the different places
we've been talking about

and see how coyotes adapt
to different habitats?

Jimmy Z: Could work out.

Aviva: Interesting.

Koki: Hey not bad!

Chris: Okay, since coyotes live

in every habitat we've
been talking about...

...the northern prairies.
Martin: The rainforest.

Aviva: The desert.
Jimmy Z: The city.

Koki: And right
here in the woods.

Aviva: So, we can all
go where we want to go,

and learn something
about coyotes.

Chris: Are you thinking
what I'm thinking?

Martin: I think, I'm
thinking the same thing.

Chris: We can each go
to a different location

and then with the observations

we all make on the
coyote's adaptability,

Aviva, you could program
coyote power suits.

Koki: It'll sure be
quicker than a month.

Martin: All right,
let's split up.

All: Yeah!

♪ (exciting upbeat music) ♪

♪♪

Chris: Okay g*ng.

Each of us needs to
find out a 'wow fact'

about the coyote's adaptability.

Aviva: On it!
Jimmy Z: Yeah!

Martin: Let's creature roll.

(engines revving)

Zach: Why is there a big dog?

And a little one too.

I don't like dogs.

Particularly not
around my mansion.

Hold on.

I didn't mean literally.

They're not dogs,
they're coyotes.

Why are they still here?

I thought I chased them away?

Pesky varmints.

Well, they're back, so time
to make them go away...again.

Zach bots, let's go.

Jimmy Z: Oh yeah.

I'll just enjoy my pizza
and then look for ... huh?

I don't believe it.
A coyote in the city!

Is it hunting?

A squirrel.

The coyote only moves when
the squirrel isn't looking.

That's pretty smart.

♪ (frantic chase music) ♪

Whoa!

I didn't know that Coyotes
where such good hunters?

Why is the coyote
coming this way?

I am not trading my pizza!

Oh. He's not. But
where is he going?

What? The coyote
lives under a statue?

Hmm, that's pretty
... adaptable, hey!

Zach: Ooh... here's a hole.

Those varmints
must live down there

and this is the only
way they can escape.

Zachbots...let's fog them out.

Get ready to catch
those mutts with your nets

when they run out.

Coyote: Auuuuuuu.

Zach: Any second now,
get ready...

Too much fog, too much fog!

What??

There's another hole?

They tricked you!

Where did you go?
I can't see anything!

♪ (exciting music) ♪

Martin: Yeah, hey, I'm not
the only one coming to shore.

And the only reason a
sea turtle comes ashore

is to dig a hole...

(gasp) to lay eggs!

Hey!

Oooh, (laughter)

I can't see what's going on

if you keep throwing
sand in my face.

Uaaaah!

This is better. I'll
make a turtle approach.

(grunting)

Cool.

Twenty...forty...fifty...
hundred, turtle eggs?

Ooh, but I'm not the
only one watching.

A coyote is too.

So the turtle is leaving
and here comes the coyote.

Looking around, making
sure the coast is clear.

Hmmm, coyotes are clever.

The coyote watched where
the eggs were buried.

Now all he has
to do, is dig them up.

Smart.

This coyote learned,
when the turtles lay eggs,

it means an easy feast.

Coyote: (munching)

Martin: Really, really smart.

Zach: Put it right on the path.

The Zach Coyote Catcher . .

When the coyote steps here,
it'll spring the trap.

(sproing)

Get me out of here!

Aah....

Yes, set it right there.

We'll come back
later for the coyote.

I've got another idea. Come on!

♪ (slow building
dramatic music) ♪

♪♪

♪♪

(sproing)

♪♪

Yes! Hear that? We got one!

Yes, I will...

Whaaat? What happened?!

Ooooh! You didn't set it right!

Koki: Ahhh,

Huh?

Hey, you two!

Adapto: Arf!...Arf!

Koki: What're you doing?

♪ (slow playful music) ♪

♪♪

You teaching Adapto that
berries are good to eat?

Adapto: (slobbering)

Koki: (laughter) He's
a fast learner, isn't he?

I get it.

If an animal can adapt to eating
different available food sources

that animal can live
in different places,

like coyotes can.

♪ (snowmobile engine revving) ♪

Chris: A coyote...

uhhh, whoaaaa, oof...and
look at how fluffy he is.

Coyotes grow a thicker,
warmer coat when it's cold.

That keeps the coyote warm in
below freezing temperatures.

And, a coyote uses
its tail like a blanket

to keep its nose and face warm.

But those ears keep working.

He hears something.

(sniffing)

Under the snow!

Whooa! A vole.

Wow! Coyotes are amazing
acrobatic hunters

and have adapted to
be able to catch prey

from the place under the snow,
called the subnivean zone.

Zach: Huh? Huh.

(sproing!)

♪ (upbeat music) ♪

Aviva: What is this
coyote looking at?

Vultures?

(zing)

The coyote knows that
vultures are scavengers

and can follow them to food.

So coyotes can be
scavengers too.

Huh....adaptable.

(growl)

And if you are adaptable
in what you eat,

you can eat different things
and survive in different places.

Like the coyote.

Chris: Aviva, I've got a
great observation here.

Aviva: Awesome, give it to me!

Martin: I'm seeing some
clever coyote power here.

Aviva: Okay, hang on.

Time to set up my
Mobile Invention Kit,

and start programming.

Koki: I got something!
Jimmy Z: Me too!

Aviva: Fantastico! I'm all set.

Give me your observations, so I
can program coyote power discs.

Martin: The coyote
observed when and where

turtles lay their eggs.

All day breakfast.

Chris: They can hunt
animals hidden in the snow.

Aviva: Okay getting
it, adding it.

Koki: If berries are ripe,
they'll eat berries.

Not picky eaters.

Jimmy Z: They can dig
their dens anywhere.

Aviva: Hearing ya'.

Ooh...and I saw how they
can scavenge for food.

Amazing data guys.

Coyote power disc
programming complete.

Koki: Great. We
can use the discs

to help the coyotes back here.

I just found out that Zach
has been bothering them.

All: Zach!

Aviva: Time to get back
to the Tortuga and fast.

We've got to stop Zach.

Martin: On our way.
Jimmy Z: Yeah.

Chris: Oh yeah. Let's do it!

♪ (upbeat music) ♪

(zing - zing)

(vroom)

Martin: All's quiet.

Chris: Not for long.

Martin/Chris: Insert
Coyote Power disc.

Martin: Touch coyote.

Chris: (giggles)

Martin: C'mon Chris,
get focused.

Touch coyote...

Martin/Chris:
Activate Coyote Power!

(zap - crackle)
♪ (exciting music) ♪

Chris: Time to yip
with the coyotes.

Martin/Chris: Yipp-yipp-yipp!

Coyotes: (howling)

Zach: Wah...huh????

Ohhhh...today is the day

I'm going to make those
noisy mutts leave!

But first, I need
a few more zeees.

(snoring)

Chris: One thing coyotes do too,

is pack up and work
together in teams.

Martin: And that is the creature
power we're going to use

to stop Zach from bothering
Adapto and his Mom.

But first...

Martin/Chris: (howling)

Zach: Oh...how can I sleep
with all that noise?

Oh no!

There's more than two.

They've multiplied.

Ohhh, that's it!

All Zach bots mobilize.

We've got to take care
of this howling dog problem

once and for all!

Martin: Okay that
got his attention.

Chris: He's coming out.

Our plan is working.

Coyotes are clever tricksters

and we are going
to use that power

to get Zach to
stop bothering them.

Coyote pack huddle.

♪ (sinister music) ♪

Zach: Aha, there it is!

You two! Chase it away!

♪ (sinister music) ♪

It's two against one.

(laughter)

♪ (sinister music) ♪

(crash - bang)

What's going on?

Noooo!!!

Adapto: Arf, arf, arf!

Chris: The coyote mom lured
your Zach bots into a trap.

A coyote trap.

Martin: Yeah you thought you
had the coyotes outnumbered,

but we coyotes tricked you.

And now you are
down two Zach bots.

Chris: We could do this all day.

Surrender Zach. Give up.

You can't defeat the coyotes.

Martin: We are really
adaptable creatures.

Zach: Well you may
be, but I'm not!

Coyote: (howling)

Argh! Why do they
have to be so noisy?

Martin: That's how we keep
in touch with each other.

Chris: And know how
many coyotes are around.

(distant howling)

And from the sound
it, there are a lot.

(distant howling)

Zach: Ugh...I give up.

You can keep your noisy dogs.

Martin/Chris: Coyotes.

Zach: Whatever. But I
don't have to stay

and listen to all
their yippity yapping.

I'm outta here.

(distant howling)

Zach bots, let's fly.

Martin: Coyotes living
free and in the wild.

Chris: Yeah, even though
they're wild animals

and you have to give
them their space,

Zach should try sitting back
and enjoying the creature music.

Coyotes: (howling)

Chris: Want to join them?

Martin: Does a
coyote yip and howl?

Martin/Chris:
(yipping and howling)

Aviva: I wonder how Adapto
and his mom are doing?

Jimmy Z: Yeah,
it's been a while.

Koki: He must be all grown up.

Martin: He is!

All: Adapto!

Chris: Hey buddy!

How's it going?

Where's mom?

Mom.

Martin: And puppies!

Aviva: Ahhh...que lindos.

Martin: Two pups!
Adapto, you're a big bro.

Chris: Wait, there's more.

Martin: Three...

Chris: Four...

Aviva: Five?

Jimmy Z: Six!

Koki: Seven?

I think that's all.

(giggles)
Whose chasin' who?

Martin: Hey little buddy.

You know you coyotes
are really adaptable.

Chris: They sure are. They
can live in so many places.

From the snowy
northern prairies...

Aviva: ...to the
dry, hot desert...

Jimmy Z: ...and even in cities!

Martin: Hey Chris,
what a creature rescue.

Didn't just help out
Adapto and his mom,

but a whole new generation
of coyote pups.

Chris: Yeah, it's great
to see these survivors,

living free and in the wild.

Live a long life Adapto!

Martin: Yeah!

(zap)

Chris: Coyotes are
amazing creatures

with the power of adaptability.

Martin: And that let's them
live in all kinds of habitats.

Like the northern woodlands.

Chris: And the Sonoran Desert.

Talk about a completely
different habitat.

Martin: Oh yeah and
coyotes, they thrive here,

surviving amongst
the spiny cacti

and hunting the prey
that live here.

Like rock squirrels.

Chris: Spiny lizards.

Martin: Desert cottontails.

Chris: Hunting is
challenging in the desert.

Their prey can be venomous
like rattle snakes,

that hide in the spiny cacti
using them for cover.

(coyote howling)

Martin: Wait...hear that?

Coyotes vocalizing.

(coyote howling)

Martin: It's like
we're surrounded.

Where are they?

Oh there, right there.

(coyote howling)

Another one.

(coyote howling)

Martin: Yeah, that barking,
yipping, howling,

that's how coyotes communicate.

(coyote howling)

Martin: It's so cool
and it varies so much,

depending on what
they want to say.

With these amazing sounds,
(coyote howling)

coyotes can claim territory

or gather pack members.

They communicate
within their own pack

and between other
groups of coyotes.

Sounds, that got
them the nickname,

(coyote howling)

Martin: Song dogs.

Chris: I love the coyote sound.
It's like a yipping, howling.

Martin: With some
barks thrown in.

Martin/Chris: (howling)
(coyotes howling)

Martin: Pretty good.

So, coyotes can
survive in the desert.

Chris: And in the
northern woodlands.

No doubt about it,
adaptability is

what gives the coyote the power

to live almost anywhere

in all kinds of habitats.

Like forests.

Martin: Beaches.

Chris: Grasslands.

Martin: And even the city.
(coyote howling)

Martin: Keep on
creature adventuring!

Chris: We'll see you
on the creature trail!
