Shovel and Pail found something in the backyard.

What are these?

Footprints!

Footprints?

Wow, those footprints are huge!

What do you think could have made these footprints?

According to my book

those are dinosaur footprints!

Dinosaur footprints?!

Dinosaurs?

In our backyard?

Steve!

Ooh... wait a minute.

Have you ever seen

a real, live dinosaur

in your backyard?

No!

No... neither have I.

No, dinosaurs aren't alive anymore.

My book says they're extinct.

Oh... well, if all the dinosaurs are extinct

then how did these footprints get here?

Well, a dinosaur must have walked here

a long, long, long time ago.

After all the dinosaurs became extinct...

the footprints stayed and turned to stone!

Are you sure dinosaurs aren't alive anymore?

Yup! Dinosaurs lived millions and millions of years ago.

They aren't alive now.

Oh, so, so these are really, really old footprints.

Uh-huh.

That's amazing.

[rustling]

What's that sound?

What do you think it is?

Hey, you know what we need to play Blue's Clues.

[normal voice]: To play Blue's Clues, we got to find a...

Oh, a paw print, right.

And that's our first... Clue!

A clue? A clue!

Then we put it in our... Notebook.

♪ You know what do-- sit down in our Thinking Chair ♪

[barks]

You know, I can tell I'm really going to need your help today

trying to figure out what Blue saw.

Will you help me?

[deep voice]: Great!

And Steveasaurus Rex, king of the dinosaurs, will help, too.

[makes stomping noise]

[sniffing]

♪ Wonder where they... roar!

A clue, a clue!

You see a clue?

[laughs]

On these... scales.

So scales must be our first clue.

You know where we need to write this clue.

Our handy-dandy...

[notebook roars]

Let's see...

To draw scales, we need some rows of half-circles.

There... scales.

So what do you think Blue saw with scales?

Yeah, maybe, but I think

we'd better find some more Blue's Clues to figure this out.

Let's go.

Shovel, I thought

we went over this.

But it looked just like dinosaur!

What's going on?

Steve, there's a dinosaur over there!

Dinosaurs are extinct.

Um, what makes you think it's a dinosaur?

Well... it has all these parts that look like a dinosaur.

Will you help us figure out

what's behind that bush?

Great.

I see a really long neck.

Dinosaurs have long necks.

He's right.

Some dinosaurs

did have long necks.

Wait, this one has

yellow and brown spots...

and four hooves.

That's not a dinosaur.

What could it be?

Well, what has four hooves

yellow and brown spots

and a long, long neck?

A giraffe!

A giraffe?

Let's see.

Oh, it isa giraffe!

Its neck just made it look like a dinosaur.

[rustling]

Look, behind that tree!

I see a dinosaur!

Hey, didn't some dinosaurs have claws?

Wait. Look, it has wings.

And feathers, too.

What could that be?

Well, what could be behind that tree

with claws, wings and feathers?

A bird!

[chirping]

It's not a dinosaur.

Dinosaur!

Ooh.

It's got spikes sticking up all over!

Spikes?

Lots of dinosaurs had spikes.

But I don't think dinosaurs

had big brown noses or whiskers like that.

Well, what could be behind that log

that has spikes all over its body

and a big brown nose and whiskers?

A porcupine!

A porcupine!

It's not a dinosaur, it's a porcupine.

Its quills look like a dinosaur's spikes.

All those animals only had parts that looked like dinosaurs.

Hey, great job figuring out what those animals were.

Let's look for more animals.

And we... better keep looking for Blue's Clues!

[sniffing]

[making stomping noise]

I'm a hungry Steveasaurus Rex.

Okay... well, we have chicken soup

or lettuce leaves.

A meat-eater or a plant-eater?

Well, which one of these foods would a meat-eater eat?

Chicken soup or lettuce leaves?

with some bumps here and some bumps here...

Do you remember what our first clue was?

Scales, right.

And now our second clue is this shape.

So what do you think Blue saw with scales and this shape?

Maybe, but we better find our last Blue's Clue.

The mail's here! Come on!

His head's all the way up there.

Look how big the bones are.

They were the biggest creatures on earth.

He's got five fingers just like me.

Those fossils were amazing.

We still have to find our last clue.

Hey, Blue just skidooed right into that dinosaur diorama.

Wow, we just skidooed

millions and millions of years back in time.

This is when the dinosaurs were alive.

Wonder where they are.

You know, I bet...

Steveasaurus Rex and Blueasaurus...

[barks roar]

...can track them down.

[makes stomping noise]

Uh... This is Blueasaurus

and I am Steveasaurus Rex, king of the dinosaurs!

Uh... that is the longest neck I've ever seen!

Hey, wasn't there an animal in our backyard

that had a neck that was really long?

A giraffe!

The giraffe, right!

The giraffe had a really, really long neck

kind of like the apatosaurus's.

Hey, what do you the apatosaurus uses his really long neck for?

Yeah, to eat.

See, Apatosaurus uses his long neck

to reach leaves so he can eat them.

You know... Steveasaurus Rex is a meat-eater. Roar.

Well, I think leaves are much tastier.

Oh, well, good-bye, Apatosaurus.

[barks good-bye]

Wow, hey, Blueasaurus.

Look... eggs.

[cracking]

Hey, did you see that?

A little teeny tiny baby dinosaur

just hatched from one of those eggs.

Ma!

Shh... oh, sorry.

Ooh!

My baby!

Um, you're probably wondering who I am.

I'm... Steveasaurus Rex, ma'am!

King of the dinosaurs!

Kind of. Roar.

Well, I'm Stegosaurus, and that's my baby.

Oh, wow, your baby has really cool spikes

just like you have.

Hey, wasn't there an animal in our backyard

that had spiky things, too?

The porcupine.

The porcupine, right.

These stegosauruses have spikes sticking up

kind of like the porcupine from our backyard.

[loud roaring]

That sounds like an allosaurus.

I can take care of this.

You better wait over there.

Oh, Steveasaurus Rex doesn't need to hide behind any tree.

[loud roaring]

Okay, never mind, I'll just go hide behind a tree.

Look, it's the allosaurus!

Well, what do you think

the stegosaurus uses those spikes for?

[roaring]

What do you think?

[roaring]

Scaring away!

Yeah!

For scaring the allosaurus away.

That way she can protect her baby... and us.

Those spikes really come in handy.

Hey, these look just like the footprints from our backyard.

Wait, what's happening?

It keeps changing color.

Yeah, it's changing colors.

I guess changing colors is our clue.

Okay, now that we're in our Thinking Chair, let's think.

Okay... so, we're trying to figure out

what Blue saw in our backyard

So, what do you think Blue saw in our backyard

with scales, this shape and changing colors?

Well, what could be this shape and has scales?

A lizard!

A lizard, right!

A lizard is this shape and its body is covered in scales.

But what about our third clue, changing colors?

What kind of lizard changes colors?

A chameleon!

A chameleon! Right!

A chameleon is a lizard that changes colors!

We just figured out Blue's Clues!

to the same color as the table.

That's why it was so hard to see him.

that you look a lot like a dinosaur?

my great-great-great-great

grandfather was alive

when the dinosaurs were.

That's probably why.

Look, Chameleon has a long tail and scales

but it's not a dinosaur.

It just looks like a dinosaur.

Now you get it.

Remember how we figured out

what those animals were

with Shovel and Pail?

Oh, and remember

how we met Archaeopteryx

in the land of dinosaurs?

This is my great-great-great- great-great-great cousin.

Wow, our backyard is full of dinosaur relatives.
