02x40 - Revolutionary Doughnuts

Post by bunniefuu »

- All right.

So here are your five words.

Relative.

A relative is someone

in your family.

Ancestor.

An ancestor is a relative

from a long time ago.

Discover.

To discover is to

find out something

for the first time.

Discovery.

A discovery is the

thing you discover.

Traitor.

A traitor is someone who

decides to help the enemy.

Okay, so we have

relative, ancestor,

discover, discovery,

and traitor.

Watch out for them

in today's show.

(peaceful music)

- Oh, hello Lisa.

- Hello, Annie.

- Hey, do you think

you could help me?

What's a word for a person

who helps out the bad guys

instead of helping

out her own friends?

- Traitor.

- Oh yeah, traitor.

That's the word, thanks.

Oh, I needed that

for my article.

The article that I'm writing

for the newspaper.

- Okay.

(dramatic music)

(suspenseful music)

- Oh, what's that you say?

What article?

- I didn't say that.

- I'm really glad

that you asked.

I'm writing an

article about a person

who lived over

years ago during

the Revolutionary w*r.

- Shh!

- Really?

- Yeah.

- Annie, that's great.

You know, I think

it's really important

that people know about

the Revolutionary w*r

because that's when the

United States fought

to become our own country.

Do you know, there would

be no United States

without the Revolutionary w*r?

Also, did you know

that the good guys,

us, fought against

the British Red Coats,

the bad guys, right here

in this neighborhood.

- Yeah, yeah, whatever

Lisa Heffenbacher.

My article is going to be about

this person.

Perhaps the worst traitor

in the Revolutionary w*r,

Cordelia Heffenbacher.

Heffenbacher?

That's my name.

- Shh!

- And that picture

looks just like me.

- Oh, oh do you not

know about your ancestor

Cordelia Heffenbacher?

Yeah, she was your

great, great, great,

great, great, great, great,

great, great, great aunt.

And I really hate to be the

one to have to tell you this,

Lisa, but she was a traitor.

Yeah, she helped

out the bad guys,

the British Red Coats,

instead of her own friends.

- My ancestor was a traitor?

- Yep, and now thanks to me,

everyone's gonna know about it.

Smile.

(camera shuttering)

- Hey!

- Shh!

- You guys.

(upbeat music)

Oh, come on yeah

Feel the power

Feel the power

Feel the power,

yo, and plug it in

It's electric,

Electric Company

Get connected,

Electric Company

It's electric,

Electric Company

Get connected,

Electric Company

Yo, the power we perfected

is electrically connected

So use it as directed and

it's meant to be respected

Just turn it on

and you will see

That you belong

in the company

Feel the power,

feel the power

Come on, feel the power

Feel the power,

yo, and plug it in

Plug it in

Feel the power,

feel the power

Everybody

Feel the power,

yo, and plug it in

Electric Company

Electric Company

Electric Company

It's Electric Company

- Lisa, I never knew you had

an ancestor who was a traitor.

- Well that's just it,

I never knew either.

None of my relatives

have ever mentioned

the name Cordelia Heffenbacher.

- Well maybe it's another

family with the same name.

- Yeah, but she

looks just like me.

You know, as soon

as we get inside,

we'll check the family tree

we have hanging in

the living room.

It lists my aunts and

my uncles, my cousins.

You know, my relatives.

But it also lists my relatives

that lived a long time ago.

- Your ancestors.

- Exactly.

Hi, Mom!

How's it going?

- Hi, fine.

- What's up, Mrs. H?

- Hi, Mrs. Heffenbacher.

- Hey guys.

- Okay, here it is.

The Heffenbacher Family Tree.

There's me, Lisa and

my mom, Caroline.

And all our ancestors who

lived a long time ago.

See, I was right.

She's not here.

There is no Cordelia

Heffenbacher.

- Did you say

Cordelia Heffenbacher?

- Mom?

- Ah, I was afraid

this day would come.

- What are you talking about?

- Oh, Lisa, come sit

next to me for a minute.

- Okay.

- There's something

I have to show you.

(sighing)

- Cordelia Heffenbacher!

She is our ancestor.

- Yes, but we never

talk about her

because she was a traitor.

- So she did help the Red Coats?

- Yes.

- Did she spy for them?

- Oh, worse than that.

She made them doughnuts.

- No!

How do you know?

(dramatic music)

Traitor!

- Cordelia Heffenbacher

lived not far from here

more than years ago

during the Revolutionary w*r.

- When we were fighting

the British Red Coats.

- Cordelia was a wonderful baker

and loved by everyone

but one day she just

disappeared and then

a few days later

a Red Coat was captured

and when they looked

into his bag they

discovered, oh.

- What did they find, Mom?

- Doughnuts.

One of Cordelia's doughnuts.

I'm sorry.

- I don't believe it.

There is no way that a

Heffenbacher could be a traitor.

And we're gonna prove it.

- Yeah!

But how exactly do

we expect to do that?

- I don't know.

- Well, one of our relatives,

your Aunt Mildred,

lives in the same house

that Cordelia grew up in.

Maybe she can tell you

more about Cordelia.

- That's how.

I can't believe my

ancestor lived here

over years ago.

Wow.

(knocking)

Hi, Aunt Mildred.

- Lisa?

Oh, please, please come in.

I've been expecting you.

- Thank you.

- One day when I

was a little girl

I discovered this trunk.

I haven't opened it in years.

If anything could help

you find out the truth

about Cordelia Heffenbacher,

I bet it's in here.

- Property of

Cordelia Heffenbacher.

Aunt Mildred, this

is a great discovery.

Oh, what an amazing

thing to find.

(relaxing music)

(upbeat music)

- The wait is over.

Wait

That's the sound of

A sitting in a word

The wait is over

That's the sound of

A sitting in a word

Wa-A-Ait.

Wait just a second

while I try to maintain

The sound that is bouncing

through my big o' brain

The kind of crazy

thing you can't contain

Like the steam

powered engine

Of a locomotive train

I wish I could throw

it down the drain

But the A-I sound is

even in the refrain

That's the sound of

A sitting in a word

The wait is over

That's the sound of

A sitting in a word

Wa-A-Ait

(upbeat music)

- This is something

that people do

when they're grumpy.

All right, first I'll

look for what I know

and I know that this

C makes a Kuh sound

because it comes before an O.

So Kuh, um, com, comp,

comp, comp, el, compel,

and then here's that

A-I which I know

makes the A sound

so it's complain.

Complain.

Oh, complain.

Who's complaining?

I'm not.

(upbeat music)

(ticking)

- Waiting!

Waiting!

Waiting.

(chopping)

A!

Boing.

Pain.

Pain.

(chopping)

A.

Trait.

Trait.

(chopping)

(grunting)

Strain.

Strain.

Strain.

Rain.

(thunder rolling)

Rain?

Rain.

(upbeat music)

- Cordelia Heffenbacher

sure liked to read.

- She was a

Heffenbacher, all right.

- How's it going?

- Oh, we're still looking.

- You know, this is

gonna take a while.

Why don't I get you

kids some snacks?

- We'll help.

Come on, B.

- Okay.

Hi Cordelia Heffenbacher

You're my great,

great, great, great

Great, great aunt

Looking at your picture I

don't think you are a traitor

Somewhere back in history

I think there is a mystery

I wish that I could

solve it but I can't

Oh, if only you were here

Here with me today

What secrets

could you tell me

I know

I'll close my eyes

And imagine whatever

you would say

Hello, Lisa Heffenbacher

You're my great,

great, great, great

Great grand niece

Yes, there is a mystery

Somewhere in my history

I'm sorry not

to be more clear

It's rather like

a puzzle, dear

All you have to do is

find the missing piece

There are two

things that you know

One, I was a cook

Two, when

something's missing

You always seem to find it

in the last place you look

Oh Cordelia Heffenbacher

Lady in the frame

Please clear my name

I'll try my best

Do your best

To solve this mystery

To solve the mystery

Before it's too late

Before it's too late

That would be

great, great, great

Great, great, great, great

Great, great, great, great

Great.

- Milk and cookies?

- [Lisa] Huh?

- Do you want some

milk and cookies?

- Oh, no thanks.

- Hey, check this out.

- [Lisa] What?

- I think it's Cordelia's diary.

If there's more to

discover about her story

I bet it's in here.

- Wow.

January , .

Today I ate turnip

soup for dinner.

It was delicious.

- What's a turnip anyway?

- It's a vegetable

that grows underground.

Here's a picture.

Okay, June , .

Today I ate turnips

and potatoes.

Didn't care much

for the potatoes

but oh, those turnips.

I tried something new today.

Smoky turnip stew.

Here's a recipe.

Peel turnips then

take love and like

turnips from the oven.

Skin from six turnips

and cut them into small pieces.

Smoky turnip no potato stew.

Peel turnips and

August , .

And the best part of

the meal tonight--

- Turnips.

Turnips.

Every page is about turnips.

She wrote a poem about a turnip.

She dreamed that

she was a turnip.

Guys, if I hear the word

turnip one more time,

I'm going to lose it.

- Oh, Hector.

We have to keep reading.

I'm sure something will turn up.

All right, that was an accident.

- Maybe this diary

wasn't the discovery

that we were hoping for.

- Wait a second.

Wait, what's this?

There's more to my story

than meets the eye.

If you wanna know the truth,

use the code sorter.

- Code sorter?

Something must be

written in code.

- Yes!

But the other Heffenbacher's

couldn't find it

because they didn't

take the time

to read all the way through.

- It's kind of great that

she wrote something in code.

You would do that.

- Wait a second.

Code sorter could be scrambled.

If you wanna know the truth,

use the secret door.

But where is it?

You know, if we were in a movie,

I would just pull on this

cord and a secret door

would suddenly be revealed.

(laughing)

(door creaking)

There's a secret door

behind me isn't there?

- Mm-hmm.

- Yeah.

(upbeat music)

It's hard

It's soft

The letter C

It's hard

It's soft

The letter C

Called a cab

It came right away

I got my camera out

Took a picture of a star

I got in

We drove fast

And then he stopped

I got out with my coat

And I was standing

on the corner

I was approached

by a centipede

I meant a centipede

He said he had a race

car to take me in

To outer space

So I did and I met

some magical mice

I had to thank them twice

For a certificate

For a brand new

type of cereal

It's hard

It's soft

The letter C

It's hard

It's soft

The letter C

It's hard

It's soft

The letter C

(upbeat music)

(dramatic tone)

- Oh, I don't trust

you, letter C.

I don't trust you one bit.

One minute you're

making a hard cuh sound

like car, crown, clip.

But whenever you get

in front of an I,

an E or a Y,

you totally change.

You start making

a soft su sound.

Like center, city, spicy.

Oh, I'm onto you, letter C.

Onto you.

From this moment on I will

never use hard or soft C again

or my name isn't

Francine Carruthers.

Francine Carruthers.

There's a hard and

soft C in my name.

You know what letter I love?

The letter C.

Best letter in the alphabet.

(upbeat music)

- Wet cement?

I love fresh cement.

You can write stuff

in fresh cement.

Cat, cow, cell, cent.

- What are you doing?

I just poured that cement!

That was going to be my

nice new concrete sidewalk.

You ruined it.

(groaning)

- Concrete man.

(groaning)

(upbeat music)

(beatboxing)

Woo

Oh

Shack I love that b*at

Everything you beatbox

sounds so sweet

But can you see what I see

You're using the sounds

of hard and soft C

Cu, as in cacophony or coal

Cupcake calories

I can't control

Can you call me

before you go

Caw, caw

Is that a canary or a crow

Soft C is also nice

At the end of words

like rice or twice

It sounds like an S

but take my advice

Sometimes you need a

soft C to add that spice

And when the sounds

work together

The circus is in town

They run circles

around this ground

The other letters fall back

This is just for little

hard C soft C practice

(upbeat music)

(eerie music)

- Kind of creepy.

- You're telling me?

- Okay, this is it.

Whatever we discover

in this secret room

will prove that Cordelia

wasn't a traitor.

- [Hector] Hey, check this out.

- [Lisa] Red Coats.

- [Hector] Cordelia's

feeding the British troops.

Just like your mom said.

- It's true.

- Hey guys?

Look at this.

A bunch of old letters.

- Thanks for keeping the

British troops going.

We couldn't b*at that

pesky George Washington

without your

delicious doughnuts.

These are all from

the British General.

- I'm sorry, Lisa.

- My ancestor was a traitor.

I thought she was just like me.

Except for the turnip thing.

- Wait a second.

Look what's written

inside of this box.

- [Lisa] Tomb of Tales.

- That has to be another

scrambled message.

- [All] False bottom?

- There are more

letters in here.

If you found these letters

then you are a

true Heffenbacher.

The truth is in these pages.

(upbeat music)

The British troops

are chasing us.

Only you can distract

them with your

delicious doughnuts

and slow them down.

Cordelia Heffenbacher,

your country needs you,

signed George Washington.

- [All] George Washington?

- The George Washington?

The first president

of our country?

Like, the guy on

the one dollar bill?

That George Washington?

- Yeah, that's the one!

These letters are all

from George Washington!

Cordelia wasn't a traitor.

She helped her country.

Oh, she distracted

the British Red Coats

with her delicious doughnuts.

Cordelia was a doughnut hero.

(laughing)

(upbeat music)

There's two ways

to see everything

My grandma used to say

And that rule

applies to what

I'm singing here today

I'm talking about

the letter C

Come follow if you will

I learned this as a shorty

And it still

gives me a thrill

Now when that C is hard

It sounds just like a K

Make me wanna go

Kuh, kuh, kuh, kuh

Kuh, kuh, kuh, kuh

Now when that C is soft

It sound just like an S

Sss, sss, sss, sss, sss

Sss, sss, sss, sss, sss

You can't miss

There's two ways to say C

And it's always fine with me

There's two ways to say C

And either way is cool

There's two ways to say

Now if a C comes

before an E, I or Y

That is when

you know to give

The softer C a try

Say nice

Nice, yeah

Or peace

Peace, yeah

Bicycle, motorcycle

Listen to me

Now when that C comes

before an L, R or T

You'll probably wanna use

The harder

sounding kind of C

Say clap

Clap, yeah

Or crab

Crab, whoa

Subject

Whoa, whoa

Come on and sing with me

There's two ways to say C

And it's always fine with me

There's two ways to say C

And either way is cool

There's two ways to say

(upbeat music)

- Hi, Josephine.

Raising money for your school?

- Yes, Mr. Creepy.

Would you like to buy a crab?

- I don't mean to be crabby

but I already have a crab.

- How about a crocodile?

- I have three crocodiles.

- You have everything!

Oh.

- I'll buy your scream.

- My scream?

That's crazy.

- Here's five dollars.

- One scream, sold.

- Ow.

(upbeat music)

- Cur.

- Ab.

- Crab.

- Cur.

- Ayon.

- Crayon.

- Cur.

- Eep.

- Creep.

- Cur.

- Ate.

- Crate.

- Cur.

- Eature.

- Creature.

- Oh.

- Come on.

You know I'm cute.

- Creepy.

(upbeat music)

- Sup.

I'm Marc Echo.

(upbeat music)

To be creative, I'll use

what's right in front of me.

Maybe it's a pen.

It could be a spray can.

As long as it feels

right and does the job.

I create art every single day.

To me, being creative means

taking what I'm thinking

from here and what

I feel from here

and bringing it out with these.

There's no right way.

There's no wrong way.

As long as you do it your way.

(upbeat music)

- I'm special agent Jack Bowser.

I'm in a scoop of trouble

at the ice cream

sprinkles factory.

It's about to explode.

And I can't cr*ck

the code to get out.

Help me read this.

The crab, crabby cab driver

came to Spain for

celery ice cream.

The crabby cab

driver came to Spain

for celery ice cream.

(upbeat music)

- It's here.

It's just in.

The big article.

I'm famous.

Read it and weep

Electric Company.

- Doughnut Hero, the

Cordelia Heffenbacher Story

by Lisa Heffenbacher.

- All right, Lisa.

- What?

That's not right.

This was supposed

to be my article.

- Well, sorry Annie.

Your article wasn't true.

This is the real story.

- Ew, who cares about true?

I just wanna be famous

and make you look bad.

Is that too much to ask for?

- [Group] Yes.

(laughing)

- Man, Amy is not happy.

- Well, I'm happy.

And to complete the celebration,

Shack, da-da-dah.

- Yes.

- Cordelia's famous

Red Coat doughnuts.

- All right.

These doughnuts taste

really different.

What's the flavor?

- [Both] Turnips.

(laughing)

- Hey, you guys.

Go online to pbskidsgo.org

and play tons of

games to win points

for your favorite member

of the Electric Company.

Only you can help us

b*at the Pranksters

so hurry up, the race is on.

(beeping)

(beatboxing)

(laughing)

(beatboxing)

Yeah

The time is now

The day is here

The rhythm that

you're feeling

The music in your ear

The charge is electric

And all you gotta

do is plug it in

Plug it in

Just imagine a world where

Everything around you

Every sight and sound

will astound you

Surround you where

before you know it

Even you have the

power to bring

A word to life, that's right

That's right

'Cause that's what we do

We're the Electric Company

Inviting all of you to

all the possibilities

Learning to write

and learning to read

We have a good time

while we plant the seeds

If we're to get it

You have to share it

Discovering your power

You own it, you

wear it proud

And you shout it out loud

Electric Company is in town

Oh

Yeah.

(applauding)

Electric Company

(laughing)

(coughing)

- It's poisonous

flash I tell you!

- Yes!

(laughing)

- Good work, guys.

- We couldn't b*at that

pesky George Washington

without your

delicious doughnuts?

Bless you.

(laughing)

She was a doughnut hero!
