[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]

[AIRPLANE ENGINE REVVING]

[BELL TOLLING[

The plane! The plane!

[GIRLS GIGGLING]

- Good morning, boss.
- Good morning, Tattoo.

ROARKE: Let's go.

Smiles, everyone. Smiles.

[BAND PLAYING]

- ROARKE: So, she came after all.
- TATTOO: Who is she, boss?

ROARKE: Miss Vicky Lee,
a very capable journalist,

whose fantasy is to spend
a weekend as a guest

of the famous silent
film star, Claude Duncan,

who, next to Valentino, was the
greatest matinee idol of his day.

Is he the same Claude Duncan

who built a chateau
here on Fantasy Island?

The very same, Tattoo,
and he still lives there,

-alone. -TATTOO: But, boss,

he must be very old.

Why should a beautiful
young lady want to go there?

Miss Lee plans to
write a biography

of her beloved grandmother,

the beautiful and tragic
actress, Becky Lee.

Oh, I see. Claude
Duncan knew Becky, right?

ROARKE: Very
well indeed, Tattoo.

They starred together
in several films,

all classics now.

And in real life,
they became lovers.

And then...

Becky Lee d*ed a
most mysterious death.

And I am very much
afraid that Miss Lee's

probing into the past

may place her in a present
danger more frightening

than she can imagine.

Boss, it looks like the
Hatfields and McCoys.

ROARKE: Close, Tattoo, close.

The very attractive young
lady is Miss Ruth Ann McAllister.

With her are her two
brothers, Amos and Otis.

And their aunt,
Miss Clora McAllister,

leader of the McAllister clan.

TATTOO: What
about the other bunch?

ROARKE: Uh, the young
man is Mr. R.J. Scoggins...

his, uh, brother, Bobby Joe,

and their uncle,
Mr. Norris Scoggins,

leader of their clan.

They're all from Eagle
Mountain, Tennessee.

And the two clans
have a long history

of feuding and bloodshed.

The two clan leaders,

Miss Clora McAllister
and Mr. Norris Scoggins,

have both requested
the same fantasy,

that their respective
clans be the first to find

a legendary homemade whiskey

called, uh, white lightning,

and acquire exclusive
rights to the recipe of this

wondrous nectar.

But, boss, how can you give

the same fantasy
to both of them?

As usual, Tattoo, in your
most penetrating manner,

you have placed your
finger on the heart of a most

dangerous and
expl*sive situation.

My dear guests,

I'm Mr. Roarke, your host.
Welcome to Fantasy Island.

VICKY: This is my
grandmother, Becky Lee.

She appeared with Claude Duncan

in the silent movie
classic Love and Desire.

It was a tragedy
she d*ed so young.

Well, I never knew
her, of course.

But my parents have
told me all about her.

That's why I have to
know why she d*ed. Why?

I understand how
you feel, Miss Lee.

Obviously, you did
not get my telegram

advising you against coming.

Oh, I got it, all
right, Mr. Roarke.

But what can
possibly be dangerous

about an octogenarian
former movie actor?

He's more than
just that, Miss Lee.

ROARKE: Tattoo is right.

There is a great deal you
don't know about Mr. Duncan.

For instance,

he has lived in total
seclusion for the last years.

VICKY: Then, it's about
time he had a visitor.

Besides, I already sent him
a letter saying I was coming.

I could forbid you to go
near his chateau, Miss Lee.

ROARKE: But as
you can see, I haven't.

Therefore, I am
granting you your fantasy.

Oh. Thank you, Mr. Roarke.

And you won't have to worry
about me. I can take care of myself.

I sincerely hope so, Miss Lee.

You may encounter certain...

phenomena here,
which will most assuredly

force you to call upon all
your reserve of courage.

- Good luck, Miss Lee.
- Thank you.

[THUNDER RUMBLES]

[VICKY GASPS]

VICKY: Oh.

Who are you?

Uh, I'm Vicky Lee.

Oh, yes, of course, the letter.

[KARL SIGHS]

Please don't think
me rude, Miss Lee,

it's just that you're so
like your grandmother.

It's remarkable.

I've been told that before.

I don't mean to
stare either, but...

you're the reincarnation
of Claude Duncan.

And I've been told that before.

So, we share surprises.

I'm his grandson, Karl.

He showed me your letter
accepting his invitation.

Oh, that explains it.

You see, I was told that
Mr. Duncan lived here alone.

Oh, perfectly true,

until a few days ago,
when he caught a nasty chill.

I flew out from the West
Coast to take care of him.

-Oh. -But where are my manners.

Please, let's go in.

ROARKE: First, let
me assure all of you

that there is such a brew as...

white lightning.

Uh, perhaps, uh, a sip.

A drop or two to
roll upon the tongue.

To savor.

A promise of things to come.

That's good.

That's something.

I have given a
great deal of thought

to your individually arrived-at,
but identical, fantasies.

And I have decided
upon what I sincerely hope

you will both accept

as an equitable
and fair solution.

Mr. Roarke, I found
I can judge a man,

just like I can a hunting dog,

by the set of his teeth
and the look of his eye.

You got a good set of both.

Thank you, Mr. Scoggins.

CLORA: I say the proof of
the pudding is in the eating.

What's this here solution
of yours, Mr. Roarke?

A contest, if you
will, Miss McAllister.

This, uh, map...

shows the exact location
of the remote area

where the still,
which produces the...

white lightning, is located.

I am now tearing it in
two, in such a way that, uh,

you will both be
able to find the still,

with some difficulty, naturally,

but not so either of you

will have an advantage
over the other.

- Sounds fair to me.
- Couldn't be fairer.

ROARKE: Uh, thank you.

Of course, if your two
clans were to join forces,

share the map together,

you could both immediately share

in whatever rewards the recipe
of the elixir might bring you.

- Well, I think maybe we could...
- It ain't going to work.

[ALL CLAMORING]

Boss, maybe we'd better
get ready to go right away.

Perhaps you're right, Tattoo.

You will find that the still is
tended by an old gentleman

who will be sole
witness to the winner.

His proclamation will be final.

Uh, Tattoo and I will meet
you at the waterfall in one hour.

At that time, I will give each
clan its share of the map

and see to it that the contest
is off to a fair start, huh?

We'll be there.

Come on, boy.

We'll be there, too.

See that you're on time.

[g*nsh*t FIRES]

NORRIS: It's the McAllister
boys! Head for cover.

KARL: Amazing.

How like Becky you are.

I hope you haven't been bored
while I attended to grandfather.

- Not at all.
- I'm afraid he's still not

well enough to see you.
You're going to have to

- put up with me as your host.
- Oh, I don't think I'll mind.

To be honest, I never knew that
your grandfather ever married.

Oh, he didn't.

But he did have
a son, my father.

You could say I'm
the family secret.

You and your father

are certainly a very
well-kept secret.

And I must say,
you bring all kinds

of fascinating
questions to mind.

[CHUCKLES] I can
guess one of them.

"Who was the lady,
my grandmother?"

Well, let me assure you,
Miss Lee, we're not related.

It wasn't your grandmother.

She was perhaps the
greatest beauty of her day.

And I know my grandfather
loved her very much.

But after her death, he found
what solace he could, elsewhere.

You know, it's uncanny

how like your
grandfather you are.

Even the way you move.

I'm sure he'll be flattered

to know you're
such a fan of his.

Oh, I've seen all his movies.

I've read all of his letters to
my grandmother over and over.

Becky meant everything to him.

There was never anyone else.

-Not really. -I know.

Their love affair
is a wonderful part

of Hollywood history.

When will I be able to see him?

Now, he'll let me know
when he feels up to it.

In the meantime, we can talk.

You see, Miss Lee,

I am grandfather's
only confidant.

I may even know things about
him you won't want to hear.

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

RUTH ANN: [WHISPERING]
R.J. R.J., are you here?

- RUTH ANN: R.J.!
- R.J.: [WHISPERS] Ruth Ann!

-R.J.! -Come on.

Oh, R.J., what's
going to happen to us?

I don't know.

If we can keep our kinfolk
from k*lling each other off,

I'll think of something.

If they found out about
us, they'd sh**t us first.

Yeah.

Looky here, I got me an idea.

I'll misread our part
of the map on purpose

and get us lost.

-What for? -So you can win.

You get the recipe
for the white lightning.

Your family's happy.

My family goes out of
the moonshining business.

And you and me live the
rest of our lives together.

Oh, if that could
only really happen!

It will. I promise you.

You just leave it
to me, Ruth Ann.

Look, honey, I could
do the same for you.

I could get us lost.

-I could. -Hey.

I thought of it first, okay?

I love you, Ruth Ann.

I love you, too, R.J.

[PIANO MUSIC PLAYING]

[VICKY CHUCKLES]

KARL: It looks
pretty corny, I know.

But the way Becky
actually delivered that line

on the set was...

unforgettable.

Or so my grandfather said.

She had incredible passion.

Then, the kiss.

VICKY: [CHUCKLES] Today,
that would get a G rating,

but in those days...

I think you're just
as avid a fan as I am.

I confess.

To tell you the truth,

I've always envied

my grandfather's
amorous technique.

[MUSIC STOPS]

Too soon the play
has run its course.

Yes.

I'd better unpack, if
you'll show me my room.

Are you a little frightened?

-Perhaps. -Of me?

Or your own feelings, Vicky?

The loneliness? I felt it
as I kissed you just now.

A girl like you shouldn't
be without love.

That's what the movies
are all about, you know.

Always have been,
right from the start.

Romance,

an escape from loneliness

and the boredom
of everyday life.

Believe me, I know, Vicky.

Because I've been lonely...

for a very long time.

KARL: And if this was a movie...

right about now,
I'd have a line like...

"The moment you walked in...

I knew it was meant to be."

Please, Karl.

Your room is at
the top of the stairs.

First door on the left.

Until later,

Becky.

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

ROARKE: I am exceedingly
disappointed and angry!

I will not tolerate the use of
firearms on Fantasy Island!

And I assure you
that I will not accept

an innocent expression
on your faces,

either as an excuse,

or as a promise of your
good conduct henceforth!

CLORA: Now, looky
here, Mr. Roarke,

I want you to know, I don't
hold with no ambushing.

It wasn't my idea.

That first sh*t pretty
near took my foot off!

That's right. That Otis
was trying to cr*pple him!

I don't miss that close.

Amos can't hit
the side of a barn.

I would've winged
him, but he was moving.

-Yeah. -Silence!

ROARKE: Everyone!

Now,

you will start by
divergent trails.

ROARKE: Using
these pieces of the map,

and a little trial and error,

each group will, in due time,
find the mountain and the still.

The first one to do
so will be the winner.

ROARKE: No, no, no, no.
Please, please. Step back.

Please, will you?

Thank you.

No, I believe, I
will put the maps

into the safekeeping of, uh...

Miss Clora McAllister...

and, uh, Mr. Norris Scoggins.

- Is that all there is to it?
- That's all there is to it.

And, of course, I expect
the contest to be held

in the spirit of fair play and,
uh, sportsmanlike conduct.

Good luck.

Hey, little brother,

don't you go cutting
my time. I've got plans

on cornering that little fox
in the field one day, myself.

Who knows? We're heading down
into some strange country now.

I might find time
for a little hunting

along the way.

VICKY: Oh! Television.

Mr. Roarke!

Uh, please forgive this somewhat
unusual intrusion, Miss Lee.

Unfortunately, it's the
only way I can reach you.

I wanted to make
certain you're all right.

Perfectly fine. Thank you.

ROARKE: And I'm
relieved to hear that.

But we may not have much time.

May I ask,

what is your first impression
of Mr. Claude Duncan?

I haven't met him yet.

But I find his
grandson charming.

His grandson?

VICKY: Ah, you
see, there are things

that even you don't know.

My book is going
to be sensational.

And doing the research
may just turn out to be

the most exciting part of all.

Miss Lee, I assure you,
Mr. Duncan has no grandson.

But I've just been with him.

We had a wonderful
unexpected time together.

ROARKE: You must not
commit yourself in any way.

Above all, you must not become

emotionally involved
with this man.

Your very life depends on it.

In the morning, I will try to
establish contact with you again,

and at that time, we will
determine the best way...

Mr. Roarke?

VICKY: Mr. Roarke?

Mr. Roarke?

She has come to me...

from nowhere.

KARL: She has come
to me, Great Pan.

And now, our covenant
shall be renewed,

as you ordained
five decades ago.

AMOS: Let's take a look
at that map, Aunt Clora.

[CHUCKLES] Yep.

It's ripped right
smack-dab down the center.

- Know what I think?
- You ain't much noted

for thinking, Amos.

Well, looky who's
talking here now, missy!

Never mind about that now.
What was you saying, Amos?

I think that Mr. Roarke

ripped this map down the center
of this here lagoon, on purpose,

sent us down one side and
Scoggins down the other,

just to keep us apart.

So what if he did?
We ain't here to fight.

OTIS: So if he
did, little sister,

them Scoggins is right over
there somewheres right now.

And so is the other
half of this here map.

Mr. Roarke says we is to
do everything fair and square.

This is fair and square, for us.

CLORA: Now, you boys looky here.

Ruth Ann's right.

Mr. Roarke, if we
do anything wrong,

he's going to kick
us right off this island.

Ain't gonna be any
rough stuff, Aunt Clora.

We're gonna get that map
nice and polite, ain't we?

Sure. Can't put no holes
through nobody with no g*ns.

But we don't need that map.

We're gonna b*at them, anyway.

How do you know
that, little girl?

Uh, I just know we will.

It don't matter what you think
you know, okay, Ruth Ann.

AMOS: We're gonna do
it our way, ain't we, Otis?

OTIS: Oh, damn right,
we're going to do it our way.

Now, you two stay right
here. This won't take long.

With the whole map, we'll be
lapping up that white lightning

before them Scoggins
can say "Otis McAllister."

Is something the
matter with you, girl?

Yes! Everything! Our
whole way of living!

I hate it!

ROARKE: Duncan.

I have come for Miss Lee.

She came here of her
own free will, Roarke.

And now that she
is here, she stays.

I offer you redemption

in return for Miss Lee's life.

I need no redemption.

The god Pan will
preserve me forever.

If you harm Miss Lee,

you will be giving
yourself over to evil

totally and eternally.

I already belong to
Pan, body and soul.

I gave him Becky.

Becky Lee was
a voluntary victim,

corrupted by your evilness.

Her granddaughter will not
submit herself voluntarily,

and she is innocent!

Then, that is her worry,
Roarke. And yours!

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

-[RUMBLING] -[DISTANT HOWLING]

[THUNDER CRASHES]

When you confined
me within these walls

and limited my
powers to this chateau,

you forfeited your
own powers over me.

That was our pact,
but I have to remind you

that it ends at midnight.

By that time, Vicky will be dead

and I will be beyond
your reach forever.

To take Miss Lee...

you must destroy me first.

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

Hold it!

I remember that tree, R.J.

Let me see that
map, Uncle Norris.

That's right, Bobby Joe.

We must've been
following the lagoon curv...

Curving around in a circle.

Them McAllisters probably
gained a whole hour on us.

Listen, let's cut over this way.
Follow this canyon around that...

You're crazier than
a billy goat in spring!

Now, that's gonna take
us plumb off the map!

That's right. Bobby Joe's right!

A person would think you
was trying to get us lost, R.J.

Uncle Norris, why
don't you and R.J.

just follow that old
lagoon around here?

It's gonna be dark in
about an hour, anyway.

BOBBY JOE: I'm just gonna
scout out that ridge over there,

- see what can I see.
- That sounds reasonable.

You got an opinion, R.J.?

It guess it can't hurt.

- Uncle Norris.
- You got a problem?

I've been thinking
about that white lightning.

Does getting that recipe
really mean that much to you?

More than anything I ever
wanted in my whole life, boy.

And we ain't going to
get it standing here talking!

NORRIS: Whoa!

Uncle Norris!

[NORRIS YELPS]

What are you...
What are you doing?

Get off me! God.

-AMOS: Yeah! -[OTIS LAUGHING]

[R.J. GRUNTS]

[OTIS WHOOPS]

Well, well, well. Will you
looky what we got here, Amos.

A Scoggins, dancing
upside-down on the wind!

Ain't that a pretty sight?

Cut me down from
here, you ugly polecat!

Well, don't worry, old
man. We'll cut you down.

On our way back after
we get the white lightning!

Now, don't you
go away, you hear.

Come on.

If I ever catch you two,
I'm gonna skin you alive!

R.J. boy! Where are you?

Uh, boy, am I proud
to see you, Mr. Roarke.

Lucky for us you happened along.

Most fortunate, yes.

Otis and Amos got the map.

I guess they must
have found the mountain

and the still by now.

Well, considering what
is at stake, Mr. Scoggins,

the possibility doesn't seem
to overexcite you in the least.

You know, I've been
noticing that too, Mr. Roarke.

Sometimes I worry

that the wear and
tear of propagation just

plain thinned out the
Scoggins blood too much.

Don't you worry
none about my blood!

Well, I do, boy. I do!

What happens now,
Mr. Roarke? Are we b*at?

Oh, no. Not at all. No.

Uh, even with the
map, it will be morning

before your adversaries
can reach the mountain. No.

And in consideration
of the unfair tactics

employed by them, I
will point out a shortcut

which will give you
an equal opportunity

to still win the contest.

Balls of fire. Did
you hear that, boy?

Point the way, Mr. Roarke.
Old Bobby Joe got himself lost,

but soon as we find
him, we'll be on our way.

Just point it out.

Just follow that
trail, Mr. Scoggins.

I have a feeling

you'll find your nephew
ahead of you somewhere.

I wish the both of you
good luck in your quest.

Uh, forget the
gear, boy! Come on!

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

Karl?

You there?

Karl?

[VICKY GASPS]

Oh!

Oh, Karl!

The painting! It's
horrible! It's so evil!

VICKY: The painting!

-It's you! -KARL: Yes.

There you see the Claude
Duncan that I could have become.

And here...

here you see the
Claude Duncan that is.

CLAUDE: Never changing...

forever young.

I don't believe it!

What?

[CHUCKLES]

You don't believe your own eyes?

It was all so simple.

"Bring me a sacrifice,"
said the great god Pan.

"Bring me a blood sacrifice,
and all the ravages of old age,

and all the corruption of evil

will be etched only
upon your portrait!

You will be as you
are for years!

Young!

Unmarked! Virile!"

That can't be true.

Oh, but it is, my dear!

It is!

It was Becky's
gift of love to me.

That's how your grandmother
d*ed, you know, for me.

Willingly! A sacrifice
to the great god Pan.

I loved her, you know.

I truly did.

Even now...

I still weep for her.

Oh, no!

But when I first
saw you, I knew.

You were Becky reincarnate.

Becky returned to
again be sacrificed,

because you knew
that tonight at midnight,

the years will end.

But the new covenant
will be forged in your blood.

And I will remain

as I am...

forever.

Forever.

VICKY: Help me,
Mr. Roarke! Help!

Mr. Roarke, please, help me!

Oh, help me, Grandmother.

Help me!

What do you suppose
Otis and Amos is up to?

You worried about them?

Always have...

always will.

I'm more like their
Ma than their aunt.

Always worried about
what might happen to them

or what they might make
happen to somebody else.

Worry about you, too, girl.

What about you, Aunt Clora?

CLORA: What about me?

How come you never
fell in love with anybody?

What makes you think I haven't?

RUTH ANN: Who was it?

How come you never got married?

Maybe I'll tell you
about it someday.

[WHISTLING]

[WHISTLING CONTINUES]

R.J., are you here?

RUTH ANN: R.J.!

[RUTH ANN GRUNTS]

So,

- it's been R.J., has it?
- You let me go, Bobby Joe!

What's good for one Scoggins
is good for all Scoggins.

- He'll k*ll you!
- [BOBBY JOE CHUCKLES]

R.J. k*ll his own brother
over a McAllister?

Us Scoggins has got
a saying, little honey...

"Share and share alike."

Mm, that's good, good.

That's the stuff
to give the troops.

That's it. We found the still!

AMOS: Look!

The Scoggins! They're too late!

We were here
first! Let's get them!

-We won! -We won!

b*at it. We won!

- Stop that fighting, now!
- [g*n FIRES]

I'll decide who's
the winner here.

Have you forgotten
what Mr. Roarke told you?

MAN: Huh?

You, you.

MAN: Come here.

Come over here.

Now, you let the young
men taste white lightning.

No, no. He don't need no taste.

MAN: Nor you, nor you.

What you call white lightning

is indeed...

a wondrous nectar.

A single taste

transforms the drinker

into a person...

of compassion...

and brotherly love...

permanently.

AMOS: I'm sorry
about that, Bobby Joe.

- No hard feelings, huh?
- Aw, shucks, it weren't nothing.

ROARKE: And now, Miss
McAllister, Mr. Scoggins,

I believe it's time to reveal
the true fantasy of your aunt

and your uncle.

You see, they too
have been in love

with each other for many years.

ROARKE: But the feud
between your families

kept them apart,

stole away their youth

and broke their hearts.

Their true fantasy
was to make certain

that the same thing
didn't happen to you.

ROARKE: Well, their
fantasy is now complete.

But yours...

yours is only beginning.

[THUNDER RUMBLING]

Great Pan...

from the mountains
and the forests

of your dark domain...

CLAUDE: I beseech
your presence, Master...

to receive your sacrifice.

[CLOCK CHIMING]

Duncan.

Roarke.

You are too late.

You can't enter the pentacle.

The pact ended at
midnight, Duncan.

We are now frozen
in an instant of time

between the death of the old
day and the birth of the new.

Look at the clock.

A trick.

Pan will renew my covenant.

No.

No, he cannot.

Not until the new day has begun.

There is always a way, Duncan.

Throughout human history,
fire has been the great cleanser...

consuming the waste matters
of plague and pestilence...

devouring corruption...

purifying the tainted earth,

and cauterizing the
wounds of the world.

CLAUDE: No, Roarke! No!

Let the flames cleanse you, too.

Let them take you to your rest.

No!

No!

[CLAUDE GASPING]

[CLOCK CHIMING]

CLAUDE: Thank you, Mr. Roarke.

Thank you for
freeing me at last.

Ah, Becky...

my love,

my love.

Mr. Roarke, did you
see? Did you hear?

Yes, Miss Lee.

The real Claude Duncan
and your grandmother

together at last, forever.

What the flames
destroyed was not a man,

but only an evil dream...

the shadow of reality.

CLAUDE: Forgive me,
my love, forgive me.

BECKY: No more pain,
Claude. No more loneliness.

Oh, Mr. Roarke, we
can't find Aunt Clora

or Uncle Norris anywhere
and it's time to leave!

Oh, I'm sorry, I
forgot to tell you.

Uh, they decided to stay
on here for a few more days.

And get reacquainted.

Why, that sly old dog!

Oh, I'm so glad. They
deserve so much.

Thank you for
everything, Mr. Roarke.

R.J.: That goes double for
me. Thank you very much.

Oh, by the way, uh,

may I ask, what are your plans

when you return to Eagle
Mountain, Tennessee?

Well, right after we get
married, Otis and Amos

and Bobby Joe and I are
starting a new business.

RUTH ANN: I didn't know that!
Where are the boys, anyway?

Oh, I'm sorry,
honey. They caught

an early plane to
get things started.

You see, we're
combining the Scoggins

and McAllister
land and splitting

it between peanuts
and sweet potatoes.

Maybe even a
little sorghum, too.

Now, it's going to be an
equal partnership, of course.

I figure that in five years'
time, we'll be in clover.

White lightning
strikes again, boss.

Indeed, Tattoo.

Indeed.

[GIRLS GIGGLING]

Mr. Roarke,

you wanted to refuse my
fantasy, and you were right.

- But I am glad I came.
- I understand.

Destiny often works in
strange but wonderful ways.

Now you can go home
and write your book

about your grandmother.

Yes, but a very
different kind of book

from the one I had
planned, Tattoo.

I'm sure it will be a success.

After all, it's basically
a love story, isn't it?

Yes, a love story.

- Thank you, Mr. Roarke.
- Thank you, Miss Lee.

-Bye-bye. -Goodbye.

Boss, I wonder what it would
be like to be young forever.

Well, if you wish, Tattoo,

I will see if I can
arrange a sitting for you

with the same artist
who painted that picture

of Mr. Duncan, you know.

Oh, no, boss, oh, no.
I was just wondering.

- Uh-huh.
- What's a gray hair or two?

Why, that's right. Yes.
