Hola, I'm Diego and this is Manatee the manatee.

I'm reading Manatee a fairytale.

Guess what this fairytale's about.

A mermaid, right.

There are lots of stories about mermaids.

Some people believe that they're the heroes of the ocean.

♪ Mermaids are the heroes of the ocean ♪

♪ They help the ocean animals go free ♪

♪ They're loyal, brave, and kind ♪

♪ But really hard to find

♪ They live in a big city in the sea ♪

♪ Mermaids are the heroes of the ocean ♪

♪ They're the ones we animals can call ♪

♪ When trouble comes our way

♪ They're there to save the day ♪

♪ 'Cause Mermaids are the heroes for us all. ♪

Yay!

Everyone loves mermaids.

But in this story the mermaids are in trouble.

Will you help them with me?

Great.

Diego, what happened to the mermaids?

We have to jump into the book to find out.

We need your help to jump into the book.

Stand up, please.

Stand up.

Stand up and get ready to jump.

Up, up, up.

Now jump, jump, jump.

We made it into the mermaid book.

Good jumping.

(echoing voices): Help us! Help us!

That sounds like a mermaid.

We've got to find her.

The mermaids need our help.

Let's zoom across the ocean and look for Mermaid City.

(seagulls cawing)

No, that's Seagull Rock.

Let's keep looking.

No, that's Crocodile Swamp.

Is this Mermaid City?

Yes, that's it.

You found Mermaid City.

To take a picture of Mermaid City, say, "Click."

Got it.

Now you tell Diego you found Mermaid City.

What did you find?

Mermaid City.

Help, help.

And that's Mariana, the leader of all the mermaids.

Look, she's got a tail just like mine.

Is it true that mermaids were once manatees?

That's what's in the fairy tales.

Wow.

She looks so sad.

Why is she in trouble, Diego?

We can find out if Click zooms out.

Say, "Zoom."

Whoa! Whoa!

Mermaid City got pushed out of the ocean

and up into the air by that giant rock.

It's too high for the mermaids to dive into the water.

And all the ocean animals are so sad.

We've got to save the mermaids.

But how do we get to Mermaid City, Diego?

We can find out how to get there if Click super-zooms out.

Say "Super zoom."

Look, here we are in the river.

And there's Mermaid City far out in the ocean.

We've gotta tumble through the Tumbling Tubes,

and get past the Sea Star Rocks to get to Mermaid City.

I can get us there fast, Diego.

Manatees can swim in rivers and oceans.

That's right.

Come on, Diego.

Let's go rescue the Mermaids.

Al rescate.

Ay, Diego, the river is pushing us the wrong way.

And I think I see animals up ahead.

DIEGO: What kind of animals are up ahead?

Crocodiles.

MANATEE: Uh-oh.

We'll help you get away from the crocodiles, Manatee.

Manatees have flat tails

that help them swim by splashing in the water.

Let's help Manatee splash the water

to get away from the crocodiles.

Put your hands out and splash, splash, splash.

Here come the crocodiles.

We've got to splash faster.

Splash, splash, splash, splash, splash, splash.

Are they gone, Diego?

Yep, they're swimming back to their swamp.

Good splashing.

DIEGO: Hey, the river is like a water slide.

We've got to slide down to get to the ocean.

¿Listo, Diego?

Listo.

Whee!

BOTH: Whee!

Yay! We made it to the ocean.

Now we need to get to Mermaid City fast.

Diego, we can get there faster if we dive down.

That's right.

Manatees swim faster

when they're close to the ocean floor.

We need to go down low so Manatee can swim fast.

Sí, vamos abajo.

To go low, we say,"abajo."

To go even lower, we say,"mas abajo."

Can you say,"mas abajo"?

Come on,amigos.

Let's go.

♪ We need to swim near the bottom ♪

They're in our way.

We can't go over them.

We're gonna have to...

BOTH: Go through them.

I can do it, Diego. I can do it.

Yummy.

Manatees love to eat lots of sea plants.

Let's help Manatee eat the sea plants.

Say, "chomp, chomp, chomp."

Mira, Diego. The Tumbling Tubes.

DOLPHINS: We want to tumble. We want to tumble.

DIEGO: Those dolphins want to tumble through the tubes.

We want to tumble. We want to tumble.

Hey, little dolphins, what's going on?

The mermaids didn't come to open the tubes.

The tubes are blocked with seaweed.

We can't get to Mermaid City if we can't go through the tubes.

Yeah, every day the mermaids come and use their strong tails

to clear a path for us in the tubes.

We can't tumble through the tubes until the path is clear.

Hey, Manatee, you've got a strong tail like the mermaids.

I bet you could clear a path through the tubes.

I could try.

Would you? Please, please.

¿Por favor? Then we could tumble.

Yay, Manatee.

We've got to help Manatee.

Flap your arms up and down like a broom to clear the path.

Put your arms out and flap, flap, flap.

Flap faster.

and they can't see in the dark.

Do you see where the light is coming from?

Yeah, and it's getting closer.

DIEGO: It's a submarine.

Do you see who's in the submarine?

My sister Alicia.

Alicia, how did you get in the book?

I jumped in, like you.

Hola, amigos. I'll light the way.

Now I can see.

Look, it's the Sea Star Rocks.

We're almost to Mermaid City.

Vamonos.

Oh, thank you for coming. We need your help.

We're stuck. We're stuck.

The sea stars are all stuck together.

But Diego, we need to get past them to get to the mermaids.

The mermaids? Are they okay?

They always help us when we get stuck together.

They're the heroes of the ocean.

But they didn't come today.

We're on our way to save them, but we need to get past you.

How do the mermaids help you get unstuck?

They sing "The Twist Song" and twist with us.

Then we get unstuck.

We can't do it without them.

Can you twist?

Sure, he can.

Manatee is a great twister.

SEA STARS: Yay, Manatee!

And we need your help, too.

Twist with us so we can un-stick the sea stars

and get to the mermaids.

♪ Come on, everybody, put your hands on your hips ♪

♪ Twist around to do the Manatee Twist ♪

We made it through all the sea stars.

to the Tall Mountain.

ALICIA: Mermaid City is way up there.

Let's help Manatee swim up.

In English we say, "go up."

We made it all the way to the top of the ocean.

Yeah, now we can look for Mermaid City.

Do you see Mermaid City?

There it is.

Help us. Help us. Ayudenos.

And look at all the ocean animals.

Help them. Help them.

They're stuck. They're stuck.

You've gotta help them.

DIEGO: Don't worry, we'll help the mermaids.

The mermaids need to be in water.

We've got to get the city down now.

Mermaids, we're gonna get your city back into the water.

Alicia, we need your Rescue Rope.

My Rescue Rope can help us lasso the city.

Say, "lasso."

Lasso.

Now we have to pull the city back into the water.

(grunting)

The city's too heavy.

We need your help to pull the city off the mountain,

so it can float down to the water.

Put your hands out in front of you and...

pull, pull, pull.

Again.

Pull, pull, pull...

Now we've gotta get it back to the bottom of the ocean.

I'll do it.

Go, Manatee. Go, Manatee.

You know, at one time all of us mermaids were manatees.
