Narrator: While Main is struggling to create colored inks, she finds out that Dirk has the Devouring.

Ferdinand: The high priest will take advantage of this if he finds out about it.

Ferdinand: Whether or not you are able to protect this infant

Ferdinand: may greatly change your position and your surroundings.

Ferdinand: Always keep that in mind.

Main: Yes.

Delia: The head priest can't be trusted!

Fran: He can be trusted.

Main: Fran, Delia.

Main: What's this all about?

Delia: Lady is it true that Dirk is supposed to be adopted?

Main: What?

Fran: Arno had brought over a message from the head priest

Fran: saying it would be difficult to find a noble to adopt Dirk after all.

Delia: Why is the head priest talking about Dirk getting adopted?!

Main: I...

Fran: Delia! How dare you treat Lady Main in such a manner!

Fran: Unhand her at once!

Delia: First Lady Main and her family, now Dirk and I.

Delia: Apparently, the head priest takes joy in ripping families apart!

Fran: That is not true!

Fran: The head priest has his own reasons.

Delia: And what exactly would those reasons be?!

Main: Delia.

Main: The one who asked the head priest to have Dirk adopted

Main: is me.

Delia: What?

Delia: So you want to tear us apart, Lady Main?!

Main: No.

Main: But all of us taking turns to take care of him is quite a burden.

Main: If someone wants to adopt Dirk,

Main: I thought that maybe he could find some happiness.

Delia: Even then! How could you decide this without telling me?!

Delia: It's just too cruel!

Main: Currently, I'm grateful that you now all know about us trying to find someone to adopt Dirk.

Delia: What?

Main: Because I...

Main: never thought you'd want to take care of Dirk so much, Delia.

Delia: Lady Main...

Main: The head priest has said that we probably will not be able to find anyone to adopt him.

Main: Even so, he is doing his best to find someone anyway.

Delia: I see...

Fran: In Arno's message, apparently the head priest

Fran: asked us to continue looking after the child in the meantime.

Delia: So Dirk and I won't be ripped apart, then?

Main: Correct. I know how much you care for Dirk.

Main: And...

Main: I personally know how it feels to not want to be away from your family.

Delia: Thank goodness.

Delia: I don't want to be apart from Dirk, no matter what.

Delia: He's the first time I've ever had... a family.

Delia: Just a little more! You've got this, Dirk!

Delia: You're almost there, Dirk! You can do this! Come on!

Delia: You're amazing, Dirk!

Delia: I'd expect nothing less from my little brother!

Delia: You're just wonderful.

Main: Some time after, the doors were installed at Mister Benno's Italian restaurant,

Main: and our fixing agent was completed.

Artisan B: Who the hell are you?!

Darua: Josef! We've just been informed that Heidi's been captured!

Josef: What?!

Artisan B: She came to steal our paint-making secrets.

Heidi: I wasn't trying to steal it...

Josef: I'm so sorry for the trouble my daydreaming wife caused...

Artisan B: If you're her husband, you need to keep better tabs on her.

Josef: I'll do my best.

Josef: Heidi, what were you doing there?

Heidi: I was trying to find some inspiration and somehow ended up there.

Heidi: I wonder how we can make ink that the little miss will be satisfied with.

Josef: That's seriously all you ever think about.

Main: Josef! Heidi!

Main: We figured out how to make a fixing agent!

Josef and Heidi: A fixing... agent?

Josef: The color didn't change.

Lutz: And next...

Josef: It didn't turn black!

Main: This is the first I've seen it with my own eyes, too.

Main: Is something wrong, Heidi?

Heidi: And it's over just like that.

Heidi: It's over before we ever found out what was causing that change.

Main: I don't mind giving you a little money if you want to continue your research.

Main: If we want to make these colors vibrant or create more colors,

Main: basic research will be necessary.

Heidi: Miss, you're the best!

Josef: Miss, you're spoiling Heidi way too much.

Main: Well, to me, you're also Gutenbergs.

Josef: Guten... what now?

Lutz: Now there's even more.

Main: Gutenberg...

Main: One of the most important people in the history of books.

Main: He's basically a god because of the way he changed how they're created.

Main: Currently, we have...

Main: Johann, who created the metal letter types,

Main: Mister Benno, who's making plant-based paper,

Main: and Lutz, who sells books, as the Gutenbergs of this town.

Main: There's also Mister Ingo, who makes our printing press,

Main: and now you two, who make our inks.

Main: I'm considering giving all of you the title of Gutenberg as well.

Main: Of course I don't mind investing in Gutenbergs, who will be vital in the creation of books.

Josef: Right...

Heidi: Did you hear that? We're Gutenbergs, Josef!

Heidi: She'll invest in this!

Heidi: I'll be allowed to do my research!

Heidi: Yahoo!

Lutz: Yeah, she's just like Main.

Main: Heidi.

Main: If you're unable to deliver the ink we order by the deadline,

Main: I will be cutting off your funding. Just remember that.

Heidi: Ack!

Lutz: I guess it takes one to know one. Main has her figured out.

Both: Takes one to know one?

Main: Next, I'd like some wax paper.

Main: Even if we were going to make a substitute,

Main: we'd need an iron and wax paper...

Lutz: What are those, and where can you find them?

Gil: All in Lady Main's head.

Main: I'll do my best to try to figure out how to make all of that,

Main: so I'll need you to take notes on your tablet when I do, Gil.

Gil: I'll do my best, Lady Main!

Main: Next, we went to the wax workshop to have Gil's tablet filled with wax.

Main: Hello!

Artisan: Hey, Gutenberg! Lady Main's here!

Johann: Stop calling me that.

Johann: What brings you here today, Lady Main?

Main: Well, I was hoping you'd be able to make Gil a stylus.

Main: And I was hoping you could make a toy for Kamil as well.

Johann: A toy?

Main: I'm going to go straight home now.

Gil: What's that?

Main: Isn't that...

Damuel: We need to hurry!

Lutz: Hey, where are we going?

Damuel: This is a shortcut!

Damuel: Apprentice Priestess,

Damuel: I'm going to regroup with the knights to find out more information.

Damuel: You are not to leave your house until I come back.

Damuel: Understood?

Main: Yes.

Damuel: Please watch after the apprentice priestess.

Effa: What in the world is going on?

Main: Apparently, something happened at the east gate.

Effa: The east gate?

Main: I hope Dad is okay...

Gunther: A noble from out of town tried to come in and caused a commotion.

Gunther: They didn't know the policies at the gates had changed and had an unauthorized invitation.

Main: Oh, "No nobles from other domains may enter without permission from the lord."

Gunther: Yeah. Then they got mad at the gatekeeper for stopping their carriage.

Gunther: That's why we summoned the knights.

Gunther: We have to summon the knights whenever nobles are involved.

Main: I guess everyone's put a lot of thought into all of this.

Gunther: If a dangerous noble tries to enter,

Gunther: I will immediately call the knights and protect the gate.

Gunther: So make sure you're aware of your surroundings, Main.

Gunther: What are you laughing about?

Main: Oh, nothing.

Main: Dad's words made me so happy that I ended up smiling,

Main: despite the situation we're in.

High priest: Stop getting in my way!

High priest: How dare all of you mock me?!

Eyecatch: Ascendance of a Bookworm

Tuuli: Yours turn out so much cuter.

Main: Well, your seams definitely look better than mine.

Tuuli: You need to get better or sewing, or you'll never be able to get married.

Main: That's fine! I plan to devote my life to books!

Effa: Lutz is here.

Main: Lutz!

Lutz: Johann finished a little something.

Main: The bell!

Lutz: What are you going to do with that?

Main: There we go.

Main: Look, Kamil. It's done!

Main: Just look at him! You're so precious, Kamil!

Lutz: Kamil always seems to cry when he sees your face, Main.

Main: Inconceivable.

Kamil: Big Sis Main!

Main: I'm supposed to be the big sis adored by my little brother.

Main: I've got a long road ahead of me.

Lutz: when can you head to the cathedral?

Main: No idea.

Lutz: You've been home three days now, right?

Main: I'm so bored, I don't know what to do with myself.

Lutz: Then let's figure out what the next picture book should be.

Main: The next picture book?

Main: I wonder...

Ferdinand: About the trouble that happened at the east gate...

Ferdinand: The one who had given an invitation to that noble from another domain

Ferdinand: was the high priest.

Ferdinand: They were given a stern warning from the knights.

Ferdinand: And because the lord is away at a lords' gathering,

Ferdinand: he won't be issuing any new permits at this time.

Ferdinand: During this time, Main should be able to come to the cathedral.

Fran / Damuel: Yes, sir.

Ferdinand: But there is a possibility someone will try to forge the permits.

Ferdinand: Please let Main's father know of this matter.

Fran / Damuel: Yes, sir.

Main: I was finally able to go to the cathedral after I'd been holed up at home for five days.

Damuel: That concludes Lord Ferdinand's message.

Gunther: Understood.

Main: Okay, I'll be going now.

Gunther: Be careful, Main.

Main: It's really quiet. Is Dirk still asleep?

Fran: Upon the high priest's orders, Dirk has been adopted by a noble.

Main: What?

Rosina: It happened yesterday.

Rosina: When Fran and I returned from our lunch break

Rosina: Delia and Dirk were nowhere to be found.

Rosina: Soon after, Wilma told us that Delia had taken Dirk.

Fran: We had the head priest ask the high priest what had happened

Fran: and we found out about the adoption.

Main: But doesn't an adoption with a noble need to be cleared by the lord first?

Fran: Apparently not when it involves a noble from another domain.

Main: Really?!

Fran: The head priest seemed concerned about this matter, too.

Main: What is going to happen to Delia?

Fran: Lady

Fran: please let go of Delia.

Main: Huh?

Fran: She acts on her own without permission from her master

Fran: and brings you misfortune.

Fran: She should not be allowed to continue as your attendant.

Rosina: She should be telling you when she goes to see the high priest.

Main: Fran, please summon Delia for me.

Fran: As you wish.

Main: But the last thing she wanted was to be torn apart from Dirk.

Main: Why would she do this?

Delia: When I told the high priest that the head priest

Delia: was looking for someone to adopt Dirk and couldn't find anyone...

Flashback,High Priest: Oh? The head priest was looking for someone to adopt the boy?

Flashback,Delia: But the head priest couldn't find anyone, so I'm still looking after him.

Flashback,Delia: He gets these bumps when he starts crying.

Flashback,Delia: I'm just so worried.

Flashback,High Priest: And you should be. I'll go ahead and take care of this for you.

Flashback,Delia: Huh?

Flashback,High Priest: Leave this to me.

Delia: And then the high priest found someone immediately!

Delia: Isn't that amazing?!

Main: Are you okay with this, Delia?

Main: Wouldn't this mean you'll be away from Dirk?

Delia: The high priest said that Dirk could stay by his side until he comes of age!

Delia: Until then, Dirk and I get to stay in a room the high priest prepared for us!

Main: There's something very wrong with this.

Main: If they're after Dirk's mana, what's the point of having the high priest raise him?

Main: Why did this noble agree to adopt Dirk?

Delia: Pardon me...

Delia: But may I be excused now?

Delia: Dirk's new father will be here soon.

Main: In that case, I will dismiss you as my attendant, Delia.

Main: I'm sure taking care of Dirk will be difficult, but do your best.

Delia: I will. Please excuse me.

Flashback,Delia: The high priest asked me to give you a headache.

Flashback,Delia: Anything but going back to the orphanage, please...

Flashback,Delia: I'd rather die!

Main: And I thought things were better now...

Fran: Lady Main.

Main: I wonder if Dirk and Delia are all right...

Rosina: This is a choice Delia made for herself, and now that Dirk is no longer an orphan,

Rosina: our hands are tied.

Main: You're right.

Fran: More importantly, Lady

Fran: please be cautious of the high priest.

Main: What?

Fran: When I went to fetch Delia earlier,

Fran: the high priest was very persistent about seeing you.

Main: The high priest was?

Fran: He'd been doing everything he could to avoid you until now.

Fran: This sudden change in him is unsettling.

Fran: Also, the high priest was involved in the incident at the east gate.

Fran: The one who had sent an invitation to the noble from another domain

Fran: was apparently the high priest.

Tuuli: Main! We've come to get you.

Main: Tuuli, what brings you here?

Tuuli: Let's go home together. It's been dangerous lately, hasn't it?

Tuuli: I'll protect you, Main!

Gil: Me, too! I'll protect you, Lady Main!

Main: Um...

Damuel: It's dangerous for me to have more of you to protect...

Main: So, listen, Tuuli.

Main: If something were to happen, you'd be in more danger than I am.

Main: If it were just me, Sir Damuel could protect me.

Tuuli: Fine, I got it.

Main: Mister Otto!

Main: It's been a while.

Otto: Main! You're safe! Thank goodness.

Main: Safe? Did something happen?

Otto: Something happened at the east gate.

Flashback,Gunther: Why did you let that carriage through?!

Flashback,Otto: Captain! Calm down!

Flashback,Gunther: Why didn't my message get relayed to you?!

Flashback,Gunther: Main... Main's in danger!

Damuel: They let a carriage through?!

Damuel: Is it the one from the other day?

Otto: Yeah, it's the same noble.

Otto: I'm surprised you know about this.

Otto: We're looking for him right now.

Damuel: You contacted the knights, didn't you?

Otto: Huh? Um... I'm not sure...

Otto: The captain went to the cathedral to make sure Main was okay.

Otto: You didn't bump into him?

Damuel: Rot!

Otto: Huh? Wha?!

Otto: Wait, are you a noble?!

Main: We'll definitely be safe with the knights here, right, Tuuli?

Main: Huh?

Main: Tuuli?

Damuel: Apprentice Priestess!

Main: H-Help me...

Main: Help me!

Main: Dad, did you actually tell everyone?

Gunther: Of course, I did!

Gunther: Before we changed shifts, I went to the east gate and talked to the one in charge there.

Gunther: Then from the south gate, west gate, and north gate,

Gunther: I had all of the ones in charge gather and told them all Sir Damuel's message!

Main: Then why didn't they know?

Gunther: According to the gatekeeper, the one in charge there never told them.

Main: What?!

Gunther: That's why the gatekeeper didn't know to check to see if the permit was forged!

Main: Well, I can't blame them.

Gunther: Why the hell didn't they tell all the gatekeepers?!

Gunther: I'm gonna go hit him again!

Main: Dad, don't!
