["NIGHT MOVES" PLAYING]

[CAR HORN HONKING]

[PATRONS CHATTERING]

- [BARTENDER] Hey, there.
- How you doing? Get a vodka tonic, please?

- [BARTENDER] All right. [CHUCKLES]
- Better make that a double.

[MATTY GRUNTS] Let's do it again.

Just that kind of a day.
[BREATHES DEEPLY]

We all have 'em.

Oh, not like mine.

- Mmm.
- What are you drinking?

Oh, Bud.

- A Bud for my friend here.
- Sure.

Well, thanks. I'm Marlin Reid.

- Matt Doyle.
- [MARLIN] Yeah. [CLEARS THROAT]

Woah. Hurt your arm?

Yeah, uh, something happened at work.

The hell do you work?

- [MARLIN LAUGHS]
- If you don't mind me asking.

No, I work down in Osterville.

Kid stabbed me with a Kn*fe.

Huh.

What? [CHUCKLES]

No, nothing. Just looked too
superficial to be a s*ab wound is all.

[LAUGHING] Okay. What, you a doctor?

Nah, I'm a cop. [SIGHS]

- Up here?
- No, down in the city.

You're a long way from home.

[GROANS] I'm just working a case.

Here you go. Thank you.

Marlin, good luck with your arm.

[PHONE RINGS]

- [STAN] Yeah?
- Stan, it's Matty. I talked to him.

So tell me.

I don't think the wife
was telling the truth.

I don't think he was with her
on the day. It doesn't matter.

You can't ID him from the tape.
I think his alibi is bullshit.

- What, you got him to talk?
- No, I didn't have to.

What are you now, the Amazing Kreskin?

Guy's got a scar on his arm. Looks
like it got grazed by a b*llet.

I think the kid was telling the
truth. At least about that much anyway.

I think the stepfather was there.

As a matter of fact, I
think he was the target.

Also, I didn't like his eyes.

- His eyes?
- Yeah.

All right. Well, thanks,
Detective. I owe you a beer.

A beer? I'm in f*cking bum-f*ck
here. You owe me a case.

[RYA] You're doing really great, Dan.

Understanding why the alters
exist, what purpose they serve,

that's the first step in healing.

Think back.

What moment brought
Yitzhak into your life?

[DANNY] I'm so sorry,
please. I didn't mean to...

[BILL, DANNY GRUNTING]

- [FRIEND] That's enough, man.
- [GRUNTS] f*ck off!

[GRUNTS] Bill, Bill,
please. Bill, please. Please.

- [GRUNTS] What the f*ck?
- [DANNY PANTS]

- [BREATHES SHAKILY]
- [AS YITZHAK] Stupid boy.

You should listen to friend.

[DANNY, BILL GRUNTING]

[BREATHING HEAVILY, GRUNTS]

- [ALL GRUNTING]
- [FRIEND ] Hey!

[GRUNTING]

[EXHALES SHAKILY] It was
those kids from school,

- the day that everything went to sh*t.
- Are you okay?

Yeah, it's just, it's difficult.

It feels like my head is
caving in... [INHALES SHARPLY]

... and that I'm stuck in a
metal box. [BREATHES SHAKILY]

Danny, what?

It's just something
that Ariana once said.

["TAKE IT" PLAYING]

[RESTAURANT PATRONS CHATTERING]

But she didn't, did she?

No, you did.

All of her feelings are inside of you.

So, how did you feel before
Yitzhak emerged that day?

I was terrified.

So you brought out
Yitzhak to protect you?

- Mm-hmm. - In your case,
the disorder's progressive.

[SIGHS]

Your mind is splitting more and
more. Yitzhak and Ariana are symptoms.

Yitzhak's function in particular seems
to be to react to physical threats.

Yeah, well, I wish he could've
come around when I was younger.

You had other saviors then.

[KNOCK ON DOOR]

- [DOOR OPENING]
- Time's up.

You're doing great, okay? Like I said.

And right now, you need
to try and hold on to you.

As we ramp up for trial, do your
best not to let the alters in.

Okay?

Simple as that.

- [SIGHS] No, not that simple.
- [HANDCUFFS CLICKING]

- I'll see you in a few days.
- [DANNY] See you in a few days.

[RYA] But this is what we prepared for.

No, this is what you prepared for.

What, you worried about your grant?

- [SCOFFS] f*ck you, Stan.
- [SCOFFS]

Insanity is his best chance.

No, it's not. Do I need to remind
you of our little pretrial fiasco?

'Cause according to a
half a dozen experts,

your multiple personality
disorder isn't even a real thing.

- They're wrong.
- And you're gonna prove that

- on this kid's back?
- Yes.

- No.
- I'm sorry?

Rya, look, you did good.

Because of your sessions with the
kid, we know about the stepfather.

We know that he lied
about being on the scene.

He's hiding something.

And also because of you, we
both know what he's hiding.

Now, if we can prove that this
kid went after him specifically,

maybe for good reason, then
this wasn't a random sh**ting.

What is important here is that we
show there is no history of v*olence

and that the sh**ting
was targeted. Personal.

Then, we put this guy on
the stand, we rattle him,

and maybe we can show that the
kid had good reason to sh**t.

The case goes from six
counts of attempted m*rder

to one count of aggravated as*ault.
It's one-tenth of the sentence.

No, he needs treatment, not jail.

- His alters have receded for now...
- Rya...

- ... but unless he gets help...
- We are a law office.

We are not a hospital.

Okay, so what happens when Jonny
mouths off to the wrong person,

or when Yitzhak gets in
a fight that he can't win?

- [LAUGHS] Do you hear yourself?
- [PHONE RINGING]

- He's not gonna survive prison.
- Will you pick up that phone?

Stan, he will not survive prison.

He's got a better chance of
surviving five years than .

Or do you want to argue that too?

He needs time to get better.

According to the law, what
he's got doesn't exist.

f*ck the law.

The law doesn't give a
sh*t about mental health.

Unless he can be integrated

and come to terms with
what happened to him,

he doesn't stand a chance.

Look, you got until trial.

Do your shrink thing.

Fix him up. Whatever. We are
not putting him on the stand.

In two weeks,

I just need him to sit
there like a good defendant.

If he pulls any of the
wacko sh*t in the courtroom,

the prosecution will eat us alive, okay?

I will work on getting
him a reasonable sentence,

and everyone will be happy.

That's not how it works.

I cannot guarantee he's
going to be a good defendant.

This is the best that we can
do, and it-it is a good outcome.

And if you really care about the kid,

stop trying to prove a point
on his back and take the win.

[CAR HORNS HONKING]

- [BAR PATRONS CHATTERING]
- ["LAZY BLUES" PLAYING]

Can I get one more for the road,
Toby? Got a big trial coming up.

- They do it?
- Yep. [SIGHS]

Gonna get 'em off?

Nope.

Maybe he gets out with enough
time. Some kind of life, anyway.

Well, best you can hope for, I
guess, huh? Some kind of life.

Yep, that's the best we can hope for.

[PEOPLE ON TV SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY]

[CHATTERING ON TV CONTINUES]

- [REMOTE CLICKS]
- [CHATTERING ON TV]

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING ON TV]

Turn it down.

- [AUDIENCE LAUGHING ON TV]
- [CHUCKLES]

[CHATTERING ON TV]

[SNIFFS]

Anyone come here, Candy?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING ON TV]

Who?

Someone asking questions about my arm?

Anyone else?

Not since the first time.

And I told them what you said
to, that I was with you that day.

Nothing ever happens that
isn't both parents' fault.

You know that?

You know what I do for you, right?

For your kid?

What the f*ck else you gonna do?

[TV CONTINUES INDISTINCTLY]

[CLEARS THROAT, SIGHS]

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING ON TV]

[CELL DOOR BUZZES]

[INMATES CHATTERING]

[INMATE ] Keep walking, weirdo.

[CELLMATE] Can I ask you a question?

The English guy coming back? Jack?

Wait, you know Jack?

[CELLMATE] Sure do. [SIGHS]

Said he was going to give me a
chance to win back some of my money.

But, uh... [INHALES DEEPLY]

Well, he hasn't really been
around here for a while.

You don't remember?

No.

Wow.

Wait, it doesn't bother you?

[CHUCKLES]

f*ck do I care?

You think you're the first
con I've met who's nuts?

Guy can play cards
and he's good company.

Just don't bring back the Israeli.

Sullivan, you got a visitor.

- [CELL DOORS BUZZ]
- [DOOR OPENING]

[INMATES, VISITORS CHATTERING]

You wanna see him or what?

You had me worried. Thought
you didn't recognize me.

[CHUCKLES] They-They said in the
paper you got split personalities.

So that's why you haven't called?

[CHUCKLES] Ari...

You're Jerome, aren't you?

She told me about you.

Sh... [SIGHS]

I thought I didn't hear from
you 'cause you didn't love me.

[SIGHS]

I saw your picture in the paper,

and I figured you could use a friend,

even if you didn't want to see me.

But you don't even know me. [SIGHS]

I'm not her.

So where is she?

Not here.

Yeah.

She was always good at that.

Disappearing.

I'm sorry.

- ["DISORDER" PLAYING]
- [PEOPLE CHATTERING]

- Hey, Carl.
- [CARL] Hey, Ari.

- Seven and seven.
- [CARL] No kidding.

Hi, there. I'm Grace.

[RYA] Tell me about Ariana.

What did she do specifically?

- [SIGHS] She was my best friend.
- I know, but what did Ariana do?

[MOANING, GASPING]

[SIGHS] Well, um... [SIGHS]

[CLICKS TONGUE] She...
She could have sex.

She would have sex.

Have you ever had sex, Danny?

[SIGHS] No.

Well, not as me anyway.

Okay. Let's stay with Ariana.

I want you to imagine her.

Imagine how she feels.

She wanted to be close
to people, but she hid it.

Hmm, she could just about
get there, but then...

[SIGHS] ... then she
would just push them away.

[RYA] To be intimate
is to be vulnerable.

And your childhood was
no place to be vulnerable.

[SIGHS] No, it was not.

Having a system of alters
has helped you survive.

They deal with feelings that you can't.

But they are just
constructs of your mind.

They're not perfect. Far from it.

So the system isn't working?

It worked for a long time.

So let me ask you again.

[SIGHS] What did Ariana do for you?

[CRYING]

[CRYING CONTINUES]

I think she was the
keeper of my loneliness.

My fear.

Yes, and your pain.
All of your suffering.

And she takes action to
resolve feelings when you can't.

Like when you wanted to
be intimate with Annabelle.

Like going after Marlin.

Yes, she's starting to
seep in. They all are.

Just your awareness of all
of them is making that happen.

I've been reading about a new
treatment. It's called fusion therapy.

It's a process that allows you
to merge with all of your alters.

Your pieces will reintegrate.

You'll be whole.

I bet they don't offer
that in prison though.

No, but we're gonna get you
the shortest sentence possible.

Probably not short enough.

[INHALES, EXHALES DEEPLY]

We don't think like that, Danny.

[SIRENS WAILING]

[STAN] Will you listen to me?

No, I don't have any more 'cause
I'm already paying for the Buick,

half the house, and the
dog I never get to see.

All right. I gotta go.

[PHONE HANGS UP]

- You the server?
- Mm-hmm.

Address is on the front.
This one might be squirrelly.

[DOOR OPENS, CLOSES]

Marlin Reid?

[MARLIN] Who's asking?

You're being served with a
summons to testify for the defense

in the trial of Danny Sullivan.

[RYA] Marlin has always
been a thr*at to you,

and moving to the ghost house
separated you from that thr*at.

But was there ever a time that
Yitzhak actually intervened?

Actually protected you from Marlin?

Shut up. Let me handle this.

Do not speak to woman that way.

- You are bully.
- f*ck, I'm struggling to stay with it.

- f*ck. [BREATHES HEAVILY]
- Okay. Try and see it without Yitzhak.

[GROANS] How is this helping, Rya?

Use your imagination, not your memory.

Close your eyes.

- [CANDY] Danny, baby... [WHIMPERING]
- Shut up. Stop. Stop. Let me handle this.

[BREATHES HEAVILY, AS YITZHAK]
Do not speak to woman that way.

You are a bully. [BREATHING
HEAVILY] All bullies are cowards.

[BREATHING SHAKILY]

That's good, Danny.

Let's go to that night in the
ghost house. What we talked about.

Have the feeling,

- but try to be inside Yitzhak.
- [BREATHES HEAVILY]

- Okay. [BREATHING HEAVILY]
- Stay inside Yitzhak.

What does it feel like?

[DANNY] Angelo, I'll
give you the g*n back.

You can have it. I
just... sh*t. f*ck. [PANTS]

I'm sorry. Okay? I'm
sorry. I'm s... [PANTING]

[ANGELO] Oh, you're sorry?

You're sorry, m*therf*cker?
I'ma show you sorry.

I wouldn't hide, if I was you.

[MUFFLED BREATHING]

[RYA] How does Yitzhak feel?

- Strong?
- [INHALES DEEPLY] He feels...

competent.

- [ANNABELLE SCREAMING] No!
- [ANGELO] Oh, what do we got here?

- [ANNABELLE SCREAMING]
- [ANGELO] Bitch. What we got here?

- What do we got here, huh? [GROANS]
- Danny! Danny!

- [WHIMPERS, PANTS]
- [DANNY GRUNTS]

- [ANGELO] sh*t.
- [DANNY GRUNTING]

- [ANNABELLE WHIMPERS]
- [DANNY, ANGELO GRUNTING]

[ANGELO PANTING, GROANING]

- Look at you. [PANTING]
- Please. [PANTING]

This is what you want?

- [ANGELO PANTING]
- [PANTING, WHIMPERS]

- [DANNY] Who is bitch now?
- [ANGELO] No. No, no, please.

- [WHIMPERS]
- Who is bitch now, huh?

No. No, no, no.

- [GLASS SHATTERING]
- [SCREAMS]

- [PANTING] You are bitch.
- [PANTING, WHIMPERING]

[BREATHING SHAKILY]

Did you piss yourself?

[ANGELO PANTING, SOBS]

[DANNY SPEAKING HEBREW]

- [DANNY] Run! [PANTING]
- [ANGELO GRUNTING]

[FOOTSTEPS THUDDING]

[AS DANNY] Annabelle.

- Annabelle, it's okay.
- [ANNABELLE PANTING]

- No one's gonna hurt you now. You're safe.
- You get away from me.

- Annabelle... You're safe.
- Don't touch me! Get away from me!

- Annabelle, it's okay. What... Annabelle.
- [WHIMPERS] Leave me alone!

- Annabelle, please.
- [CRIES] Leave me alone!

It was me.

Annabelle, she w...
She was afraid of me.

[INMATES CHATTERING]

I'll tell you what...

Hey!

Hey, kid.

Kid!

You're the one that
does those voices, right?

[INMATES TAUNTING, LAUGHING]

Come on. Come on. Do one for us.

[INMATES CHEERING]

We want to see the
freak show, freak boy.

- You won't even know. You won't even know.
- [INMATES LAUGHING, TAUNTING]

- [PRISON GUARD] Cut it out! Eat your food!
- [INMATE] All right, here we go.

[TAUNTING CONTINUES]

[LAUGHING, TAUNTING FADES]

[SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY]

[CELL DOOR OPENS]

[MURMURS]

I hope it's okay, me coming back.

Yeah, it's cool.

I guess I just don't
really know what you want.

I-I-I wasn't very sensitive,

uh, to how hard this must be.

[BREATHES DEEPLY, CHUCKLES]

Jerome. Nice to meet you, Danny.

It's nice to meet you.

I've heard... [INHALES
DEEPLY] ... a lot about you.

[CHUCKLES] Uh, all favorable, I hope.

[CHUCKLES] Mostly.

[CHUCKLES]

Well, we had our ups and downs.

[STAMMERS] But the ups
made the downs worth it.

[STAMMERS] At least for me.

No, for her too.

At least, I think so anyway.

[CHUCKLES] Thanks. [EXHALES DEEPLY]

Know how we met?

[EXHALES DEEPLY]

The first time I see her,

she's at the club giving sh*t
to this assh*le at the bar.

And s-so, I go over.

Ask if she wants any help.

Next thing I know,
she's bitching me out,

saying she's not some g*dd*mn
princess, she can fight her own battles.

- Yeah, she can.
- Mm-hmm.

And so, I-I-I tell her,

I was only trying to help.

She says if I really want to help,
I'd get her on the dance floor.

[CHUCKLES] Oh, next thing I know,

we're moving together like we're
two halves of the same person.

[JEROME] It's rare...

[CHUCKLES] ... finding someone who
understands your movement like that.

[CHUCKLES] That was us.

[CHUCKLES]

We understood each other from
that first night. [BREATHES DEEPLY]

Well, I can't dance for sh*t.

- [CHUCKLES]
- [CHUCKLES]

I'm sure you've got some
moves in there somewhere.

Apparently, I do have all these
skills hidden away in my subconscious.

[INHALES DEEPLY, SIGHS] You
must be thinking that I'm crazy.

[STAMMERS] No.

I'm thinking you must be lonely.

[INHALES DEEPLY]

If I don't go to jail,
there's a treatment, a therapy,

to help me figure out how
I can become all of them.

And how many are there?

A bunch. [CHUCKLES]

[CHUCKLES] Ooh-whee.

My mom always said I knew
how to pick 'em. [CHUCKLES]

- Ouch.
- [CHUCKLES]

In for a penny, in
for a pound. [CHUCKLES]

Ariana used to say that.

Yeah, I learned it from her.

And from you.

What if I don't like who I become,

you know, after the therapy?

I-I spent my whole life
trying to get right.

Who I am.

Black man.

Gay man.

Brave man.

Coward.

Troublemaker. Peacekeeper.

Turns out, I'm all of them.

Now, that doesn't make it easy.

[SCOFFS] I've been b*at up, spit on,

kicked out of every
place you can imagine.

But I know who I am.

And no one can take that from me.

Ariana knew who she was.

She was proud of it.

[CHUCKLES] That's in you.

That's a part of you.
She is a part of you.

You do what the rest of us have to.

You take the good parts of
yourself and you love 'em.

And the bad, you try to make better.

Best we can do.

I can see why she liked you.

Are you flirting with me?

What? No.

[LAUGHS] Relax, man.

I'm kidding. [CHUCKLES]

- [CHUCKLING]
- [CHUCKLING]

[VOICE MAIL BEEPS]

[GREG] Rya. F-First,
I-I know I'm meddling,

but I just got off
the phone with Martin.

He says you've been missing class.

Now, Rya, you know you could be
risking the whole tenure situation.

f*ck off, Greg.

[RYA] So, why London?

Why did you go to London?

Because Yitzhak gave me the
guidebook and told me to...

No. There's no Yitzhak.

I don't know, Rya. Why don't
you tell me what you think?

[BREATHES DEEPLY]

Do you want some coffee?

- What?
- I'm gonna get us coffee.

Here's what I think.

[SMACKS LIPS] I think that despite
their best efforts to protect you,

the alters were putting you in
more and more dangerous positions.

[DOOR OPENS]

Hey, is it possible for you to get us

two cups of coffee, please, Kevin?

- [KEVIN] Yeah, sure.
- Why?

[DOOR CLOSES]

Like I said, the
illness is degenerative.

The alters can become erratic.

And at certain points, for some people,

the configuration may
begin to fail the host.

So, the alters that
were ultimately there

to protect me are now hurting me?

The system's imperfect.

No matter how sophisticated it is,

it's still a disconnection from reality.

Disassociation takes a tremendous
amount of energy to maintain.

And everything that happened to my mind

is because of what Marlin did to Adam?

You tell me.

Wait. What are you saying? That...

he did something to me
that I don't remember?

You think he did something to me too?

Is that what you're saying?

We're in London. I want you
to feel your way through that.

Ariana was gone.

I was wanted by the
police. I needed help.

So, what did you do?

Apparently, I sent myself
to go and find my dad.

[KNOCK ON DOOR]

A version of your father that you
imagined when you were a boy, maybe?

- [DOOR OPENS]
- [RYA] Thank you.

- A father who would rescue me.
- [DOOR CLOSES]

What little boy hasn't hoped for that?

[COFFEE THUDS]

Jack said everything
that I wanted to hear.

Jack couldn't give you your real father,

but he could give you the
next best thing: fatherly love.

I think that maybe you created
Jack as a kind of self-rescue.

What was it that he
said to you? He said,

"You have to go back and
face the music, Danny Boy"?

[RYA] It's nice to see you again, Jack.

[CLICKS TONGUE] Is it?

Your reluctance to being
here notwithstanding,

Danny's clearly in a lot of trouble.

And I'm hoping that you can help me.

Well, I made him come back,
didn't I? Told him to...

Face the music.

So, I sent myself to London to
go and find my imaginary father,

only to fail and then send
myself back to turn myself in?

- That doesn't make any sense.
- It makes emotional sense.

Your instinct after the
sh**ting was to run away,

and Yitzhak helped you do that.

And then you came back to reclaim
your life and face what you'd done.

- Jack sent you back.
- That's f*cking crazy.

Although, I guess that
is kind of the point.

Your feelings are normal, Danny.

It's the way that you've
learned to express them

through entirely different
people that's unique here.

You know, it's quicker
to just say crazy.

Drink your coffee.

[CAR HORNS HONKING]

Ms. Richards.

I understand, uh, you're
prosecuting the Danny Sullivan case.

Yes, I am.

Uh, he's my stepson.

Can we talk inside?

Afternoon, Stan. Nice of you to stop by.

Oh, funny. You're funny.

From the DA.

[LINE DISCONNECTED BEEPING]

So, you don't remember
first meeting either of them?

Mike and Jonny.

No, I guess it was just
like they were always there.

The way they present to the
world, they seem most like you.

Would you say that's true?

Yeah, I guess. Sure.

- [MIKE] Whoo! Dude.
- [JONNY] Whoa, dude.

All right.

- Okay, so now what? [SIGHS]
- Where's the money?

Money's in my pocket.

Okay. So, just, uh, be chill.

- [SIGHS]
- [LAUGHS] Be chill.

Be chill? What the f*ck does that mean?

- Be chill.
- [CHUCKLES]

- Can you go and get me...
- Will you please...

- Mike, can you get me from the back?
- I got you.

Okay. [BREATHING HEAVILY]
Okay, okay, okay, okay.

[RYA] So, unless someone
knew you really well,

they might not notice the differences.

And maybe that's why your condition
went undiagnosed for so long.

Okay.

How are they different?

- What do you mean?
- I mean, what do they do for you?

What did they do that you couldn't do?

- [DOOR BELL JINGLES]
- [CHATTERING]

What up, ladies?

[CHUCKLES] Stalker much?

[DANNY, AS MIKE] Special delivery.

"Ghost house"?

What? Your house doesn't have a name?

Be there or be square.

[DANNY] Um, social skills. Friendships.

Mike was...

He was awesome. He would look out
for me. He had my back, you know.

And he... [CHUCKLES]

- he was really cool.
- So were you.

[CHUCKLES]

["ROCK FOREVER" PLAYING]

[CHUCKLING]

[JONNY] You ripped out my heart.

- Can you let a man down easy?
- [KNOCK ON DOOR]

- [BLOWS, CHUCKLES]
- This is a lot better. Try that.

- [JONNY] Dude, f*ck off.
- [ANNABELLE] Danny?

- You said it was a party, right?
- [DANNY] Yeah.

I guess I better roll some more joints.

There are beers in the fridge.

And Jonny?

Danny? Jonny?

["DON'T LEAVE ME THIS WAY" PLAYING]

[SNORTS]

[ANGELO CHUCKLES]

Yeah, come here, friend. [LAUGHS]

[ANGELO CHUCKLES]

[ANGELO] You liked that, huh? [CHUCKLES]

[BELT UNBUCKLES]

[RYA] Danny, what are you seeing?

I don't think I wanna talk about Jonny.

What are you remembering about him?

He was an escape artist, right?

He-He helped you escape your
house with the money from dealing.

Self-medication is a
form of escape, right?

I said I don't wanna talk about Jonny.

- Why not?
- Because I don't.

Danny, you have to
face all of your alters.

- They are all parts of you.
- I don't wanna discuss Jonny.

- Am I not making myself clear?
- Come on.

Rya, f*ck off.

Good.

You're angry.

Yes, I'm angry.

How does that feel?

You're in control. You're in
your body. How does that feel?

- Good. It feels good.
- Yeah, that's progress.

You're already beginning to incorporate
the most segregated emotions,

and over time you will be
able to reclaim them all.

Over time? We don't really
have that much time, do we?

No, we don't. [SIGHS]

One thing that I want you to think about

when you come across things
in your history that upset you,

one thing that links all
of your alters is that,

all your life, they've
been trying to save you.

Even if they don't
want me talking to you?

[CHUCKLES]

They don't think that you
can survive without them.

And for a long time,
that was probably true.

- But not anymore.
- But not anymore.

[RYA] I think there's a
secret message in the fact

that all of your alters have
been trying to save you, Danny.

And what's that?

You see,

well, they're all you.

Deep down, you've been
trying to save yourself.

Hey! Stop!

[BREATHES SHAKILY]

[INHALES DEEPLY] I
have something for you.

It's for the trial.

[CHUCKLES]

No way.

- Is it new?
- Yes.

I've never had a suit before.

- [INHALES DEEPLY] It fits you.
- [CHUCKLES]

Thanks. [BREATHES SHARPLY]

I'm gonna be right there the whole time.

Okay?

[BREATHES SHAKILY] Yeah.

[CELL DOOR BUZZES]

Hey.

Hey.

- You okay? - Yeah.
Yeah. You-You look better.

I do?

Calmer.

[BREATHES DEEPLY]

Well, maybe it's the whole
trying-to-be-one-person thing.

[CHUCKLES, INHALES DEEPLY]

Um, look, I-I can't stay long.

Uh, th-this is my last time coming.

I just wanted to say it in person.

It's nothing to do with you.

But... [SIGHS] ... I have
to be honest with myself,

and there's a part of
me hoping she'll be here,

which isn't fair to either of us.

It's been good getting
to know you, Dan. Um...

I'm sorry about your troubles.

[SIGHS]

I don't mind that you
miss her. [INHALES DEEPLY]

I miss her, too.

[BREATHES SHAKILY]

Hey, um. [SMACKS LIPS]
I brought you something.

[SNIFFLES, CLEARS THROAT]

It's a... It's a good-luck charm.

When you wear it, maybe it can, you
know, remind you that you're you.

And being you is-is no bad thing.

[SNIFFLES]

[ARIANA] Danny.

[SNIFFS]

Hey.

Ari?

- [INHALES SHARPLY]
- You're so f*cking sentimental.

[INHALES SHARPLY]
Hey. [BREATHES SHAKILY]

[SNIFFLES] I miss you.

I know.

[SOBS] I love you so much.

[BREATHES SHAKILY]

I love you too.

She just wanted to say goodbye.

[BREATHES SHAKILY]

Thank you.

[EXHALES SHAKILY, SNIFFS]

I'll see you around, Danny.

[BREATHES SHARPLY]

[CELL DOOR BUZZES]

[CELL DOOR CLOSES]

[SNIFFLES]

- [STUDENT ] Again?
- [SIGHS] You gotta be kidding me.

[STUDENT ] Ugh. This is bogus.

What is so f*cking urgent?

Your Sullivan kid, that's what.

[RYA] What happened?

We just got an updated
witness list from the DA.

The stepfather went to the prosecution,

and he says he was just
trying to protect his stepson,

and that's why he
didn't cop to being sh*t.

- That's bullshit.
- Yeah, well, maybe.

But he says he can prove that
this wasn't an isolated incident

and that Danny has a
history of v*olence.

Okay, now he turned them
on to some local case.

He was saying that there was
a sh**ting inside of the house.

The prosecution found
some girl, Annabelle Stone,

a guy named Angelo Ruiz,

that can tie Danny to
that sh**ting in the house,

and that he has a history of
drug abuse and attempted m*rder.

- m*therf*cker.
- Now, if these witnesses pan out,

this guy just signed
Danny's death warrant.

Do you happen to know any chance
that they are not going to pan out?

No, they will pan
out. So, what do we do?

I'm gonna go to the DA. I'm
gonna try to plead a deal.

- Ten to years. No parole.
- Ten years?

Stop. Because if she says no...
And me, I would. I would say no.

You better hope you can
convince the mother to testify,

and a jury that this MPD sh*t is real,

and that Danny has got it after all.

- But you said that would never work.
- [DETECTIVE] Stan!

Well, no, it never has.

Which, in my opinion, does not
bode well in a court of law.

But if it doesn't, he is going away
for the rest of his natural-born life.

- [DETECTIVE] Stan! Stan!
- What?

[ARIANA] Just in case,
what are we gonna do?

- [MIKE] What are we gonna do?
- [ARIANA] How do we get out?

[JONNY] Just in case.

[GROANS]

[INMATES CHATTERING IN DISTANCE]

[CELL DOORS BUZZ]

f*ck. Come on.

- [SCREAMING]
- [GUARD] Open the doors! Open the doors!

[EXCLAIMS, GRUNTS]

[WHIMPERING]

[GUARD] Damn it, Sullivan.
It's always something with you.

- I think I broke my wrist. [GRUNTS]
- Let's get you to the infirmary.

[DANNY] God! f*ck. [GRUNTING]

[NURSE BREATHES DEEPLY]

This gonna hurt?

[GUARD] Lights out in
two minutes, Sullivan.

- [CELL DOORS BUZZ]
- [CHUCKLES]

[CELL DOORS CLOSE]

[GUARD] Lights out!

[JONNY] Just in case.
