on a quiet street in Michigan

is where Alan Tolf

raised his young family.

That was back in

before he became

a paranormal investigator.

It was a nice neighborhood,

and it was a nice home.

NARRATOR: From the moment

his family moves in,

there's something

about the house

that doesn't quite feel right.

I don't know that I was ever

% comfortable in the home.

In particular, the basement

makes Alan very uneasy.

Anna?

You just get that sensation

that somebody's

looking at you.

I dismissed what I was feeling,

but I knew, I think,

deep down that

there was something more there.

After years in the home,

Alan and his family

move out in .

It was a relief

to move from that house.

NARRATOR: But the old house

remains in the family.

Alan's mother buys it and turns

it into a rental property,

but after just a year,

there's a problem with a tenant.

He stops paying rent.

I went over to the home to see

if there was an issue

and looked through the door,

and through the glass,

I could see furniture, TV.

I assumed that he just

wasn't there at the time,

but ultimately he didn't return

for any of his things.

He left it all.

NARRATOR: Alan goes to the home

to clear it out,

and a familiar uneasy

feeling washes over him.

ALAN: It hit you right when you

walked through the door.

It felt electric.

It felt cold.

It felt unwelcoming.

NARRATOR:

Alan, by now a seasoned

paranormal investigator,

senses something

supernatural is at play.

ALAN: As an investigator,

I learned

the importance of knowing

gathering yourself

and making sure you're grounded.

There are a lot of moments

during investigations

that I get frightened,

especially when it's threatening

or evil force

that I feel we're dealing with.

The two were anxious to see

what they could find

at their former home.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

ALAN: Hi.

Don't be afraid.

NARRATOR:

They conduct an EVP session.

ALAN:

I'd like to speak to

with who's ever in the room

with me right now.

NARRATOR:

The results are unprecedented.

ALAN: And we gathered EVPs

within minutes.

ANNA: That's not something

that would happen normally.

You don't just immediately get

so many responses

and so many EVPs.

ALAN: When we reviewed the EVPs,

we heard "leave"...

"[Bleep] you."

"The devil is here."

NARRATOR: One of the most

disturbing ones involves Anna.

One of the EVPs we captured

states, "Anna hates me."

That concerned me,

just the mere fact

that it recognized Anna

and knew her name.

This potentially could have been

watching her from a small child

as she grew up.

This made me feel very on edge.

The more aggressive

EVPs feel threatening,

makes you feel disturbed.

They make you know that

you're not wanted there.

Despite the intimidating nature

of the EVPs,

he and Anna press on

with the investigation

and move

to Anna's childhood bedroom.

We had a Mel Meter

and K-II meters,

and they were spiking.

-Whoa, point .

-Yeah, oh, boy.

ANNA: The whole bedroom had

a completely separate feeling

than when I lived there.

It was very dark,

felt threatening,

disturbing, angry.

You could just feel

all the emotions

when you stepped

into the bedroom.

NARRATOR: As Alan sets up

a camera in the bedroom closet,

they sense something's

in there with them.

There was, like, an electrical

snapping sound.

ANNA:

Touch the antenna, please.

Oh, my god.

ALAN: Anna, at that point,

stated that her camera had d*ed.

ANNA: Some -- unrecorded it.

I did not hit that button.

Something turned

the recorder off.

NARRATOR:

They review the footage

and discover

another light anomaly.

ALAN:

It was a white ball of energy

that just pops out

of the closet,

wraps around Anna,

and at that point,

you hear the snap,

and her camera shuts off.

-Oh, my god.

ANNA:

Something was surrounding me.

It was extremely frightening.

father-daughter team of Alan

they witness troubling

paranormal activity.

Something was surrounding me.

It was extremely frightening.

NARRATOR:

Alan and Anna want to contact

whatever is in the room.

They decide to conduct a session

using a Spirit Box.

We're getting some very negative

responses come through,

some very angry voices.

ANNA: "Steal life"...

"We believe the master."

One said, "Jesus had a baby."

One that was extremely

compelling was one that said,

"Where is my soul?

I want my soul back."

At one point, one of us asks,

"Where are you?"

ALAN: Where are you?

And we get a response,

"Right behind you."

We knew we were dealing with

something intelligent,

and they seemed angry.

NARRATOR: The negative energy

in the bedroom

worries both Anna and Alan.

They think it's best

to go downstairs.

They hold another session there.

As we conducted the Spirit Box

session in the living room area,

there was a very, very dark

and sad, ominous,

horrible feeling.

ANNA:

We started getting Spirit Box

session responses such as,

"Where's the guy

that's gonna help us?"

"Someone help us, please."

ALAN: Is there anybody

here with me?

I absolutely believe that there

were negative entities

that were within the house

keeping these good spirits

that just wanted

to move on from doing so.

When you're in a location

that's such a significant part

of your life

and having those types

of responses come through,

it was just overwhelming.

NARRATOR: The experiences so far

have them on edge,

and it's about to get

a lot worse for Anna.

Anna shouts, you know,

"Something grabbed my arm."

ANNA: [ Gasps ]

I actually physically have

something grab my arm.

They were doing it forcefully.

It was very frightening feeling

something grab you

that you can't even see.

Having it escalate to physically

being grabbed,

that tells us that the spirit

or entity is getting stronger.

The activity

is getting stronger.

We're getting out of here.

Come on.

That anything would put their

hands on any of my children,

let alone my daughter

who's in the house with me

trying to help...

NARRATOR: Afraid of how quickly

things have escalated,

they go outside to regroup.

ANNA:

I had been very shaken up.

I was ready to take a moment,

just catch my breath

and wrap my head around

what had just happened.

Once we were able to get

outside of the house

and gather our thoughts,

it was still disturbing,

but, you know,

we both realized

that there was still work

to be done.

We needed to go back in.

And then your investigative

side is saying,

"Get in there. There's a lot

that's going on,

and you need to capture

the evidence."

NARRATOR:

Alan and Anna muster the courage

to reenter the house,

and it's still very active.

ANNA: When we first go

into the kitchen,

we can actually hear

footsteps up in the bedroom

that we were in earlier.

They were big footsteps, heavy.

You could hear them clearly.

ALAN: Who's ever upstairs,

will you run across the floor?

[ Tapping ]

Stomp your feet.

We're secured inside the home.

Nobody else is there,

and you can hear footsteps.

You can hear talking,

shuffling around.

It's an uneasy feeling.

NARRATOR: They brace themselves

to continue on and investigate

one last area of the house --

the basement.

ALAN: We left this portion

of the investigation to the end

because this was

my least favorite part

of the house to be in ever,

and at this point, it was

times worse than ever before.

ANNA: So as soon as you're

descending the stairs,

you can feel a presence.

You can feel this darkness,

and it just gets heavier

and darker.

ALAN: As we're standing in

the basement,

we're conducting

the EVP session.

Again, there is a overwhelming

feeling of dread.

The longer we're there,

it is getting stronger.

It felt like someone was just

following you

the entire time watching you.

NARRATOR:

Then, they hear voices.

As if someone was standing next

to you and whispering,

whatever this was,

it was saying things

that were threatening.

And at the same time,

we're hearing footsteps

that are moving

across the kitchen.

ANNA: [ Gasps ]

ALAN:

We both have this extremely

uncomfortable sensation.

Whatever it was,

it wanted us to be scared,

and it seemed as if it enjoyed

seeing us scared.

[ Gasps ]

It's negative.

I don't know if it's demonic,

but whatever it is,

it is extremely strong.

ANNA: We were being tormented

in the home.

We were being targeted.

It's communicating in such

a threatening and angry way

and capable of doing things

like touching me, grabbing me.

NARRATOR:

Fearing for their safety,

they end the investigation

and leave.

Anytime that an entity

or a spirit,

demon has the ability

to drive us out,

it's frustrating. It's scary.

While Alan and Anna have proof

of paranormal activity

in their home,

they still aren't sure

why it's happening

and who exactly is causing it.

I believe that there was

something there

when I purchased the home,

but upon returning,

I'm % confident

that something occurred

while the renter was in the home

to cause some sort

of expl*si*n of activity.

They really probably

opened a portal,

probably did some type of ritual

or something to open a doorway.

their most challenging

ALAN: This was my home,

my family's home,

for such a long time.

I feel like we left more

unresolved than we resolved.

In a peaceful town in Ohio

stands a seemingly

ordinary house.

It's home to Jennifer

and her family,

but there's something

very unusual about this house.

Strange and disturbing things

start to happen to Jennifer.

At first, she succumbs

to painful injuries

that she can't explain.

She is physically getting hurt.

She would have scratches

all over her body.

They would come in a three.

Her leg started to turn red.

NARRATOR: Her bruises are not

only physical.

She was drained.

She had depression.

NARRATOR:

And things quickly escalate.

One night, as she sleeps,

she is subjected

to a horrifying att*ck.

The way she described it,

it had big teeth.

It looked almost like a lizard.

She said that it would breathe

and it would crawl up her legs

through this door,

it was heavy, and you knew

that something is watching you.

feel it, too.

I could barely catch my breath.

I gasped for air.

It was so thick in there,

so heavy,

I could hardly breathe.

start their investigation

in Jennifer's bedroom

where the att*cks first began.

They start an EVP session

and they hear something

right away.

They believe this is

the incubus.

We want to get direct answers

so we use this device,

the Spirit Box.

It's an AM/FM radio

that generates white noise.

Spirits are believed to use

this white noise

to talk to us in real time.

I remember at one point,

Chris was like,

"Tell us who you are," you know,

"What are you doing here?"

and I was like, "Yeah,"

and he goes, "Give us a name."

Tell us your name.

Can you tell us why you're here?

ZUZIC: And all of a sudden,

you hear, "Demon."

[ Deep Voice ] A demon.

ZUZIC: Who is here

right now with us?

Give us your name.

Who is here right now with us?

And he had this powerful,

strong voice come through.

Chills go through your body.

You know he's in that room

with you right now.

In Ohio, a dangerous entity

is terrorizing a woman

in her home.

[ Screams ]

find it in her bedroom.

Chills go through your body.

You know he's in that room

with you right now.

boom, we knew.

up against

something strong now.

The incubus reveals itself again

in another troubling way.

I hear what sounds

like ceramic being hit,

and we see these three angels

sitting on a shelf being turned

backwards towards the wall.

They're being moved.

And when the angels

turned around, I was scared.

I knew we were in for a fight.

At that moment, you could hear

what sounds like something

is pissed off

stomping through the hallway.

[ Wood creaking ]

What?

Did you say something?

No.

I ran through the hallway.

I ran up to the door,

and I looked up there,

and there was nobody there,

but you could feel his presence.

There was an evil presence

in that home.

[ Low growling ]

The growling sound

was very loud.

It was a loud...

[ imitates growling ]

[ Low growling ]

It made the hair on the back

of your neck stand up.

It was that loud.

That's not a human sound.

It's a demon.

ZUZIC: It's like everything

just changed.

You could feel

the strong energy.

You feel like

you're surrounded by evil.

You know,

this thing is strong.

You know, if you show any

weakness or fear to this thing,

it'll att*ck.

NARRATOR: After everything

they just witnessed

in such

a short amount of time,

Karlo worries what

the incubus may do next.

We don't want to get hurt

and this thing can hurt you.

NARRATOR: So he calls an end

to the investigation.

We have to do a cleanse.

NARRATOR: But the team's work

is far from done.

There's no way we could leave,

you know,

the family in that situation.

We wanted to stay there

and help them right now.

The next thing was to try

to remove this thing.

We want to get it out

of this house.

We don't want this to escalate.

Someone could be k*lled.

WOMAN: [ Screaming ]

We could all be k*lled.

NARRATOR: The team feels

the only thing to do

is to perform an exorcism.

Karlo asks the team as well

as Jennifer and her family

to form a prayer circle.

We all stand in one area,

and we'll hold hands,

linking faith together.

NARRATOR: Before they begin,

investigator Chris Page issues

a stark warning.

PAGE: This is where,

if anything is gonna happen,

it's gonna happen.

If this thing is gonna lash out,

it's gonna lash out now.

NARRATOR:

They vow to remove the incubus

and start their prayers.

We have to read it three times

to break that seal,

you know,

release the demon.

NARRATOR: The incubus is strong

and looks for a weak link

to break the chain.

You could tell Todd's facial

expression that he's changing.

Something's going on.

MALLETT: I'm shaking.

I start to feel nauseous,

feels like a hand

is going right into my stomach

and just churning things around.

I felt like I was gonna be sick.

I couldn't move.

It scared the hell out of me.

I felt things starting to take

over my body and my mind.

I began to throw up.

[ Gagging ]

He's getting sick.

He's turning pale.

We knew immediately,

"Let's pull him

out of here."

We need to get him out of here.

We had to get him out

of this house.

NARRATOR: They rush Todd outside

and discover

he has little memory

of the att*ck.

God, I think I'm...

[ groans ]

I seemed to have blacked out.

I couldn't remember

what happened.

I didn't know where I was.

Okay, you know what?

Go ahead.

If Chris and Karlo wouldn't have

came to my rescue

I believe I could have been

really physically harmed

or k*lled.

NARRATOR:

While Todd recovers outside,

Chris and Karlo

go back in to finish the job.

We knew right away that once

we go back in there,

it's gonna be a fight.

That demon believes

that property is his now.

The team repeats their prayer,

but this entity won't be

driven out so easily.

This thing is surrounding you.

You could feel it moving around.

we're trying to remove it.

This is a strong, strong demon.

When we're standing

there praying,

you could hear glass

being broke.

[ Glass shatters ]

ZUZIC: It broke an ashtray.

It literally snapped it in half.

I'm talking an ashtray that's

two inches thick, it's glass.

There's no way this thing

would have just broke.

It's sitting on a counter.

How the hell

is it gonna break?

NARRATOR: The incubus resists

with all its might.

You could hear the stomping

in the kitchen.

You could hear growling.

-Our father who art in Heaven...

-[ Screams ]

It seemed like everything

just changed.

You could feel the heaviness

just leave,

you know, almost like

it walked away from it.

[ Sighs ]

I don't feel it anymore.

The moment we finished

the prayer,

she even looked at us and said,

"I think it's gone."

It was a relief to us hearing

that because she's living this.

We're there just to help her.

She's been there every day,

so she would know immediately

if this thing is gone or not.

She knew that now maybe

she could live her life.

NARRATOR:

Knowing Jennifer is safe,

Karlo and Chris check on Todd.

ZUZIC: He started to tell us

that he's feeling better.

It's almost like when

we defeated this thing,

it let go of him, too.

It really scared me to come

that close to death

at the hands of a demon,

and I'm very thankful

for my teammates.

They saved me that day.

NARRATOR: Although the exorcism

is a success,

the memories are too painful,

and Jennifer can't bear

to stay in the home.

This thing was living

in their house with them

and attacking them.

Even though it's gone now,

you always have that thought,

"Look, this thing could

come back,"

so they moved out,

and they wanted to start over.

drowned his wife

and daughter in the bathtub.

NARRATOR:

He then took his own life,

hanging himself from a pipe

in the basement.

♪♪

Years after the grisly m*rder,

a local man named Brad

buys the home.

He plans to rent it out,

but it proves problematic

when both he and his tenants

start to notice

strange activities.

Some of the phenomena reported

includes shadow figures

particularly on the staircase,

footsteps running up

and down the stairs

and walking around the house

all hours of the day and night.

[ Thudding ]

And also of disembodied voices.

Because of this,

Brad can't keep tenants.

[ Indistinct whispers ]

NARRATOR:

He reaches out to his friend

and paranormal investigator,

Richard Estep, to find out

what may be going on.

cookie-cutter home

that you might find

Brad gives them a tour,

and they are very aware

that they may be dealing

with a spirit of a m*rder*r.

JASON: He was mad enough

to do something

so heinous to his family.

Would this be an aggressive

entity if we try to provoke it?

ESTEP: If there's a suggestion

of v*olence to the phenomena

or to the history

of what happened there,

finish setting up,

of activity.

Richard and his team head

to the scene of the crime.

But something

strange intervenes.

Babe, you okay?

What happened?

You all right?

Linda appears to be quite taken

aback by what she's just seen --

a grayish-black cloud,

a young child

that's full of dancing light.

And as this thing

rushes towards her,

all she can thing about is,

"What the heck am I looking at?"

And then, just like that, it

disappears in front of her eyes.

This could be the manifestation

of some kind

of paranormal entity.

JASON:

Is your daughter here with us?

I was wondering, "Was this

the spirit of the little girl?"

because it was roughly

about -foot-tall,

had some sparkly lights,

which could represent maybe

a younger person in spirit form.

The messages from the Ovilus

start to get more

and more disturbing.

We get repeated phrases

like, "Hit."

"Hit."

..."att*ck"...

"att*ck!"

..."hurt"...

"Hurt."

..."blood."

"Blood."

WOMAN: [ Screams ]

This is now the theme.

It's one of v*olence.

Starve.

And it seems very clearly

threatening

toward my team and I.

starts going off again.

JASON: We get this big EMF spike

again that we cannot explain,

and it makes me wonder

if something else

is going to manifest.

Linda calls the spirit out.

JASON: We definitely thought

that something was trying

to intimidate us.

hurt us physically

or maybe affect us mentally,

it was definitely trying to make

some kind of statement to us.

a home haunting

takes an alarming turn

when an evil spirit threatens

This is very clearly one

that's menacing,

a definitely trend

Despite the disturbing messages,

Linda is defiant.

She commands the spirit

to show itself

to the owner of the home,

Brad, who is up

in one of the bedrooms.

Hurt the guy upstairs.

NARRATOR: The spirit obliges.

It showed itself by showing

little white lights

that were only seen by Brad.

BRAD: Ah! Ah!

Brad felt cold hands

touching him.

Ah! Ah!

The grabbing of Brad

was a very significant thing...

It got my leg.

...because now

it was getting physical.

NARRATOR: The encounter drives

Brad from the home.

The others find the strength

to continue,

but the spirit is relentless.

At that time,

I'm a little nervous

because things are ramping up

even more.

Whatever we are on the trail of,

JASON: Is there something

you want from us?

It says, "Go upstairs."

ESTEP: All of a sudden, there is

a loud thud from upstairs.

The entity that's communicating

with us is nasty.

Are you trying to scare people?

Linda tells the entity

that it should be sorry,

and it fires right back at her

with the word "att*ck."

I'm [bleep] they're here.

That's the REM

[bleep] going off.

And I got chills right now.

And we instantly hear the sound

of somebody walking back

and forth on the floorboards

above our head,

and we know full well

that nobody was up there.

The entire team was gathered

on the main floor.

Let's go, guys.

NARRATOR:

They follow the sound upstairs

and find themselves

in the little girl's bedroom.

ESTEP: We asked who that was

downstairs making the crash.

Is there anyone who wants

to identify themselves to us?

"Daddy, daddy, choke, squeeze,

downstairs, drunk,"

was what the Ovilus

said in return.

What happened in this house?

We're getting EMF spikes

all over the place,

and the words "tragic"

and "daddy" come up again

along with "horrible,"

"Mommy" and "children."

Enough, show yourself!

NARRATOR: Nothing more comes

through on the Ovilus.

They think the spirit has left.

They're wrong.

We see something very strange

has happened to her clothes.

There is a huge damp spot

on her shirt

and on the top of her pants.

The carpet is completely dry,

and even if it hadn't been,

Linda's sitting up.

How does she have this soaking

wet spot appear on her front?

We can't find a good

explanation for it.

Is that your t-shirt?

It's [bleep] everywhere.

-It's her jeans and T-shirt.

-Look at this.

ESTEP: I think it manifested

water on you.

The positioning of the spots

were as if maybe a child

had sat down on my wife,

a wet child who's just

come out of the bathtub.

Well, I just saw it

in here just now.

LINDA: All of a sudden it was

just, like, sitting in my lap.

JASON: It just happened

and surrounded...

LINDA:

Same little -foot thing I saw.

A number of experts

in the paranormal field

will tell you that often when

something appears to be a child,

it's actually something else

masquerading in an innocent form

in order to further

its own agenda.

I think the most concerned

person by far was Jason.

He knows that his wife

is pregnant,

and when we start to see

her become the target

for the first

physical manifestation

since Brad was touched,

I think everybody

is a little concerned.

NARRATOR: After this episode,

the team decides to end

the investigation

before anything else happens.

or thrown down somewhere?

Was this entity gonna become

more physical

than it already

has this evening?

NARRATOR: The team leaves,

thinking that's the last

they'll see of the spirit.

But that's not the case

for Jason and Linda.

Following this investigation,

my wife had started spotting

from the pregnancy.

[ Object clatters ]

-Baby, you okay?

-What happened?

-What is that?

She was carrying a rosary

with her at all times,

saying the Lord's Prayer,

just trying to do anything

that would try to ward off

any bad or negative spirits

or energies that might

have attached to her.

Just breathe nice and deep.

You all right?

Could this be a case in which

the entity in the house

has truly influenced

her physically?

I certainly hope not,

but we know that some spirits

are capable of doing that.

NARRATOR: The rest of her

pregnancy is difficult,

but thankfully the baby is okay.

JASON:

We do have a healthy baby girl.

Even though everything was fine,

Linda refuses to go back

into that house to this day.

remains one of the team's

most active

investigations to date.

Although we like to think

paranormal activity

takes place in historic

old castles and manor houses,

paranormal activity happens

on your street,

and it happens on mine.

This was an ordinary residence

in an ordinary neighborhood.

It just happened to have

a particularly horrific history.

The loss of three lives

in a senseless crime dwells

over all of us.

Brad's townhome was

an extremely haunted location,

and to the best of my knowledge,

it still is today.
