[reporter] We are live streaming
from Nevsehir, Turkey

where we have dispatched a mobile camera
into the structurally unstable catacomb

to preview its contents for our anxiously
awaiting online community.

Each and every one of these artifacts
are being seen

for possibly the first time in centuries.

[Maelstrom] Freeze!

Zoom in.

So it does exist!

Which means the others must also.

And point the way to great riches?

Wait, have I seen that thing before?

What?

[exclaims]

It is VILE's original Crest,
dating back to their medieval origins.

[Player] VILE goes back that far?

The current faculty is,
but the latest incarnation

of a long line of criminal masterminds.

[Shadow-san] The letter "V" that you see,
was in actuality, the Roman numeral five.

- Representing VILE's five founders,
- [horse neighs]

before they attached
a proper name to their brand of evil.

The five hailed
from five geographic regions.

They commanded bands of Raiders,

who pillaged and plundered along
the trade routes of the Middle Ages.

As their empire grew in power,

the schemes of "The Five"
grew both bolder and more sophisticated.

They began to pillage
from ancient monuments and tombs,

much in the way that present-day VILE

might steal historic artifacts
from museums.

Their fortune became so vast,

VILE's founders sought a location
both secure and secret enough

to hoard their stolen riches.

They mapped clues to this hidden
location across three relics,

the original crest included.

And concealed them for their VILE
descendants to one day discover

in hiding places
which have long since been forgotten.

Until now.

They never taught that
back in crime school.

It was knowledge to be shared,

only among the uppermost echelon
of VILE, its faculty.

So, you're saying there are two more
of these relics to be found?

The first relic, unearthed in Turkey,

should contain clues
leading to the second,

in turn leading to the third,

which would point the way to the hidden
location of VILE's medieval vault.

[Carmen] Cleo would cherry-pick
the treasures

that go best with her wardrobe.

Then Maelstrom would melt down the rest.

And no doubt use the newly-acquired wealth

to fund VILE's schemes for decades,
if not, centuries to come.

The artifacts rightfully belong
to the countries

they were originally stolen from,

not to a League of Villains.

We need to secure the first relic
before VILE can.

[Player] Talk about high and low.

Nevsehir's awe-inspiring landscape
makes it an ideal location

for scenic hot air ballooning,
while its sprawling underground cities

are among the world's
most unique ancient wonders.

Rodents.

[thrilling music playing]

Up, up, and away, mon ami!

High and low, I should have known.

Victory is ours, mi amigo!

Ready? Say "goat cheese."

- Goat cheese!
- Goat cheese!

I'll hitch a ride.

A keeper.

Now, let us do one with funny faces.

Now, let us do one with the relic
facing in the right direction.

My bad! Try again.

What was that?

Thanks, fellas.

[Player] I've been searching online, Red.

Those etchings
in the outer circle are definitely runes.

An ancient writing system used
by Vikings, among other medieval-era folk.

I'm just not sure why they'd be
written on a relic found in Turkey?

Because it's directing us
to the location of the next relic?

In all likelihood, somewhere in Norway,

one of VILE's founders
was indeed a Viking warrior.

So, anyone here know how
to read the runic alphabet?

We may need some help in that department.

An expert in ancient languages,
possibly history.

[Player] Searching academic blogs…

- [alert message chimes]
- Looks like we have some candidates.

Care to guess why you haven't seen
your favorite A.C.M.E. Agent in a while?

[Jules] Though ancient, the Sphinx
continues to enthrall modern imaginations.

The Sphinx at Giza
is perhaps the most familiar,

but it was the Greek Sphinx
which demanded passersby to solve its…

[stammers] riddles.

That is all for today, class.

I'm quite surprised to see you here.

Imagine my surprise
when I stumbled onto your blog.

Way to follow your heart, Jules.

You remembered?

[Carmen] Catching up
with another old friend?

Oh, it's just lunch.

Agent Devineaux wishes to pick
my brain about a project he's working on.

That makes two of us.

Should I be concerned
about any… conflicts of interest?

Not unless Devineaux's project
involves ancient artifacts.

May I?

[Jules] The markings seem
to indicate it's of Norse origin.

But the "V" doesn't stand
for "Viking," does it?

I'm guessing you left A.C.M.E.
to get away from all this.

I won't be offended if you decline.

Who knew my two key areas
of interest would ever intersect?

Is there anything
you can describe about it?

Did it have any unusual markings?

Well, we did snap a photo.

No, really, it is not very good.

Share, please.

Zoom.

A picture worth a thousand words.

[Jules] The design is quite
reminiscent of a vegvisir.

A what?

A symbol often attributed
to Norse mythology.

Purported to enable travelers
to safely arrive at their destination,

even when its exact location
was not known to them.

So, could it be a map?

I suppose.

If one knew how to interpret the details.

[Jules] But they are typically considered
to be more like a compass.

The Runic text points the way
to a site in a remote region of Svalbard.

The known command post
of the one-eyed Viking Warrior Princess

turned founding member of VILE.

[Maelstrom] Gunnhild the Gruesome.

GUNNHILD THE GRUESOME

You memorize all that?

My Norse ancestry,
finally put to some practical use.

[Jules] These Runes seem to reference
a Viking fort in Svalbard.

A northernmost region of Norway.

I'll need to do some research
to learn more specifics.

I'll need to get going if I'm to have
any hope of finding the next one.

Wait, there are more of these?

Keep it safe for me,
I'll be in touch to hear further details.

You aren't intending
to steal these relics for…

personal gain, are you?

Sorry, old habit.

Where are you off to, Professor?

To my homeland.

To collect relic number two
before Carmen Sandiego might.

In the unlikely event, she's managed
to find a way to translate its secrets.

But, Gunnar, should we not
be sending Operatives?

Because we owe our success
so far to an accidental selfie?

[Maelstrom] Our founders hid these relics
away with their own thieving fingers,

conceived these riddles
with their own twisted minds.

These treasures were intended
for we alone to find.

I'm coming with.

You ain't exactly
what I call "Viking stock."

You might need protectin'.

With their failure,
VILE is certain to up their game.

[machine sawing]

What's that sound?

It is the sound of me
preparing to join you on this mission.

[grunts]

[Player] You're off to Norway.

A Scandinavian country in Northern Europe.

Historically famous for its Vikings,

who explored the seas
in their powerful longships,

pillaging coastal Europe
from the th to the th centuries.

The ships also symbolized
safe passage into the afterlife,

so prominent Viking leaders
were often buried

within their actual boats, underground.

- Hello?
- [Player] Hey, Jules!

Who is this?

Oh, sorry!
You can call me Player.

Red asked me to check in for any updates.

And, how do you and Red know each other?

We're old friends. From her school days,

I see.

Oh, well, I do have
some updated information for her.

[Player] Heads up, Red, we have info
from our historical consultant.

Seems this Viking clan was based
in a town called Longyearbyen.

If you head to the coordinates I uploaded,

you'll find their turf house,
or what's left of it.

Jules says Norse houses of the era
were built of wood and earth,

so it's doubtful
that it survived over the centuries,

but the stone foundation
should still be intact.

[Carmen] If it were intended
to be a compass,

wouldn't it be pointing north?

Zack.

[grunts]

Would this also be a part
of my ninja training, sensei?

[Carmen] Watch your step, folks.

We don't need any more broken limbs.

[Ivy whimpers]

[Carmen] Anyone else thinking we should be
on the lookout for a burial site?

[Zack and Ivy shouting]

Move! Move! Move!

[ice rumbles]

Not the kind of burial I had in mind.

Zack! Ivy! Can you hear me?

[Ivy] We're okay, Carm!
We're not trapped, there's a tunnel!

[Carmen] Follow it. Hopefully,
we'll connect further down the path.

[Brunt] I'd thought it'd be a little more
tucked away or something.

[exclaims]

[Zack] Wicked awesome!

I want this hanging over my fireplace!

You don't have a fireplace.

Though I wish we did right now.

Come on, we're supposed
to be looking for that…

Hey! Think that eye patch
might be hiding something?

Think you can get up there?

I got this! [grunts]

It's a little close in here.

[Brunt] Think there might be
a fishing hole in there, Maelstrom?

You hear that?

Mama Bear could sure use a protein…

boost.

Right behind you, bro!

Emphasis on "behind."

Exquisite, isn't she, Coach Brunt?

Your first-ever Viking Funeral.

[Maelstrom] A faux funeral, to be sure.

Intended to cleverly conceal
the second relic

from the prying eyes of commoners.

Oh! Would you look at that?

The armor, belonging to our forebear.

Belongin' to our Mama Bear now.

Ain't your fit, Señor Skinny Jeans.

[groans]

[Zack] I can see it.

Almost there.

Dearest Coach,
what a bracing vision of Nordic might.

It is as if you were Gunnhild, reborn.

Lookin' good, feelin' strong.

[dragon head rumbling]

Oh, no.

[Ivy shouting]

Looks to me like we got ourselves
a pipsqueak variety Viking Princess.

She must have been
perfectly preserved in the ice.

[Carmen] Hold it!

Touch her, and you'll never learn
the location of relic number two.

It's got weird writing on it
and everything!

Oh, boy.

I'll take that, thank you.

[Carmen groans]

I'm putting you on ice, Lambkins.

Not tonight.

Why, old colleague, it has been a while.

You can give that to me,
or I can take it from you.

The choice is yours.

There is a third option.

You walked right into that one.

I will handle Brunt.

Come on. Let's go!

The last time we saw each other,

you left me for the French Police to find.

[yells] Traitor!

[grunting]

[thrilling music playing]

[shouts]

[metal clanging]

[Brunt and Shadow-san grunting]

[shouts]

[grunting]

Tired, old man?

'Cause I am just getting started!

[shouting]

[metal clangs]

[Shadow-san grunts]

[Brunt groans]

[Brunt shouts]

You did not protect the face.

Your ongoing threats
to Carmen, end here and now.

[shouting]

[ice crackling]

[ice rumbling]

[Carmen] We lost Maelstrom.

[Zack panting]

[ice crackling]

Go!

What about you?

[somber music]

[water splashing]

You think maybe they made it out on that?

[Ivy] Let's hope not.

A true vintage VILE heirloom.

- [exclaims]
- [car tires screeching]

[panting]

- [electric taser crackles]
- [groans]

[quivering]

Were… were you gonna… leave me?

[Maelstrom] Of course not, Coach dearest.

I was merely securing the relic,
as our protocol demands.

Then how come your bag's packed?

[Maelstrom clears throat]
Rest, sweet warrior princess.

What matters most,

is that there shall be
no Viking Funeral for you tonight.

I can't wait any longer.

Yes!

I can manage, but thank you.

VILE has the second relic.

And without it, we don't have any clue
to the location of relic number three.

Actually, Carm,
we might be able to help with that.

It's the eye patch.
We pulled it off the dragon head.

[Carmen] The Relic must have
imprinted on the leather hide,

after being pressed up
against it all these years.

We may not be out of this race after all.
