[Player] I've been monitoring
all usual channels for any chatter.

Total radio silence.

That's too quiet.

I've also spent the last hours

hacking into every surveillance feed
in Seattle I could find.

No sign of Carmen.

The Cleaners are all too good
at covering their tracks.

[Player]
You haven't turned up anything, either?

[Shadowsan]
Nothing that will lead us to her.

And we can't just go kick down
VILE's front door.

We don't know where they live anymore.

C'mon, guys.

This is Carmen Sandiego
we're talking about.

She always finds her way out of scrapes.

Right?

Our best hope of learning
where VILE might be keeping Carmen,

will be to intercept their next heist.

You wish to see me, Chief?

I thought you might want to get acquainted
with ACME's newest recruit.

Well, reacquainted.

Agent Devineaux.

[gasps]
Ms. Argent? Julia?

Agent Argent.

But... your academic career?

Yes, well, recent events
have inspired a change of heart.

So, we are one big happy family now.

No longer trying to catch Carmen Sandiego?

I would have to resign all over again.

Then, I cannot wait to finally pursue
real criminals with you.

I had other duties in mind
for Agent Argent.

These are the closed Case Files
pertaining to one, Dexter Wolfe.

I don't believe I know the name.

He was a key subject
from ACME's "ancient history."

I have reason to believe
this little research project

will be of particular interest to you.

Graham Calloway was spotted in Vienna

moments ago
in the vicinity of a major museum.

I hate to admit it,
but he's the one piece of the puzzle

who doesn't quite add up.

If Carmen's a "good guy,"
what is her connection to Calloway?

There is only one person I know
who is smart enough to solve that mystery.

[Contessa] Break time, Argent.

You and Devineaux
are going on a little trip.

Okay, team.
Get ready to rendezvous in Vienna.

It's the capital of Austria
and its largest city.

Vienna has a strong musical heritage.

It's known for its ballroom dance,
the Viennese Waltz.

And lots of famous composers

lived and worked there
during the th and th centuries.

including Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert.

Classical music is still a vibrant part
of Vienna's identity today.

An upcoming concert
features an original Stradivarius violin.

Built in the early s by the famous
Italian violin maker, Antonio Stradivari.

Only are known to exist today.

And the instruments are legendary
for their perfect sound,

as well as their red-colored varnish.

[Julia] From the th to the th century,

the Habsburg Family was one of the most
powerful families in Austria.

Nearly years?

Amazing.

[Julia] And this museum
contains a multitude of treasures

from the Habsburg era.

Which could make it
a potential target for VILE.

True. Yet, we do not know for certain

that Monsieur Calloway
is affiliated with them.

To date, the only criminal act
that we are aware he has committed,

besides assaulting me
and fleeing ACME custody,

would be the minor home burglary
in Reykjavik.

Indeed.
Everything about this Graham Calloway,

including the nature
of his connection to Carmen,

remains quite murky.

[clattering]

This will be like old times.

What?

This will be like old times.

Did you say something?

He's looking forward
to our "class reunion."

He's not the only one.

Did you miss me, mates?

It is good to see you again, mi amigo.

And it is good to see
that you remember us.

As if it were yesterday.

The goat, the mole, and the pussycat.

[footstep approaching]

[ominous music]

Hola, sewer rats.

[Tigress] Well, well. Look who decided
to be fashionably late.

If you can call what she's wearing,
fashionable.

[grunts]

Always looking to pick a fight,
aren't you, kitty cat?

You should try picking your nose instead.

We're not roomies anymore.
We're professionals.

I guess you can breathe easy.

Halarious.

We gonna rock this thing, Gray?

It's Crackle now, remember?

I know. But you look like a Gray.

What Carmen said.

Let's rock this thing.

[lightning cracks]

[Gunnar]
Our new Operative is in the field,

accompanied by the teammates
most familiar to her.

They have been coached on what she does
and does not remember.

And have been instructed
to monitor her behavior

and report to us any sign of apprehension.

The memory wipe
took Carmen "back in time."

As far as she knows,

she graduated from VILE Academy
at the top of her class.

Despite Shadowsan's attempts to fail her.

You don't think she'll wonder
where Shadowsan up and went?

All part of the grand fiction
Carmen is currently inhabiting.

Shadowsan betrayed us
and defected from VILE Island,

on the night of her graduation.

[ominous music]

It was a dark and stormy night.

[Saira] A most riveting origin story,
wouldn't you say?

You two head-cases
really thought this through.

As with Crackle,
we went beyond a simple remapping

of Carmen's memories
to make her one of us.

We needed to suppress
her innate desire to do good.

By eliminating her ability
to empathize with anyone,

but her closest allies in VILE.

We have, in essence, removed the one thing
that made Carmen, Carmen.

We have removed her proverbial heart.

Everyone in position?

Ready to pounce.

- Aye-aye.

[Crackle]
Then let's get this party started.

What a coincidence bumping into you here.

We're your backup.

We've been instructed

Agent Devineaux, meet me outside.

- Now? But I am so close to...
- We would not want to intrude

may have planned tonight, would we?

Such as returning any stolen items.

And that is why
you are the smartest person I know.

It's your lucky night, flatfoot.

I just had my own close call
with the blue coats.

These agents are plainclothes,

Well, we stick with the original plan.

We hide in plain sight.
So, drop off your dry cleaning,

Sure, Gray.
I just have one more stop to make.

[Crackle] What? That's not the plan...

[beeps]

Oh, boy.

It's definitely my color.
And I think it's playing my song.

Oh, Crackle.

I do hope you are calling
to report success.

Well, overall, yes. But...

Oh, do not tell me
she has gone rogue already.

That girl's nothin' but heartache.

I wouldn't be concerned just yet,
but Carmen did decide to go off and...

[violin playing]

Any music lovers out there?

[gasps]

That would not be
an original Stradivarius, would it?

And the Countess wins a prize.
Hey, how about this one?

So, we have laid claim to treasures
and an antique potentially worth millions,

all in one night?

However did you manage to pull that off?

I'm in Vienna.
I waltzed in, and I waltzed out.

[Player] Guys, heard from Shadowsan?

- No.
- Think something's wrong?

Can't say. He's not picking up.

But get this,
I hacked into local surveillance earlier,

and my facial recognition software
just got this match.

Carm's okay, and she's in Vienna?

Maybe she got loose from VILE here,
and she's on the run?

Now, where can we find Carm?

There she is. Rookie of the year.

- To Carmen.
- To Carmen.

- To Carmen.
- C'mon, friends?

Sure, BFFs.

You know,
if you'd told us about the fancy fiddle,

we could've helped.

A girl can't impulse shop?

Mm.

Find any weapons or ID?

Just this. I'll have HQ unlock it.

How long have I been unconscious?

We'll ask the questions here.

I will not be here to answer them.

Player, I am back. Any updates?

[laughs]

Who knew "water balloon maneuvers"
would be part of crime school training?

That stunt nearly got us all expelled.

Was it not worth it

just to see the look
on The Bookkeeper's face?

Absolument.

Well, well. My plainclothes pals.
Wait for my signal, "Crackle."

Whoa! Really?

Why do you keep insisting
on taking these risks?

I do it for the mental gymnastics.

I'm not gonna stop her.

Carm?

[panting]

Carm.

Are you all right?

It's Carmen,
and why wouldn't I be all right?

I'm better than all right.

I'm on top of the world.

- [people scream]
- Whoa.

[groans]

Carm, what's wrong?

Don't you recognize me?

I recognize a problem

[screams]

What?

Hang on, Zack.

Crikey.

[grunts]

Carm, help me.

See all those tiny dots?

Try hitting the one

that looks like your partner
on the way down.

[groans]

No!

[sighs]

[groans]

I looked Carmen right in the eye.

She didn't know who I was.
It... it was like she wasn't even there.

[Shadowsan] It is as I feared.

Not only did Dr. Bellum
selectively erase Carmen's memories.

She suppressed Carmen's empathy.

What-pathy?

Her ability to feel for others.

She definitely didn't care
if I lived or d*ed.

If it is any consolation,
she was not the Carmen that we know.

She was programmed by Dr. Bellum

to become the Operative
VILE always wanted her to be.

Okay. So, how do we get our Carmen back?

We would, of course,
first need to catch her.

Then, hope that the real Carmen
still exists...

somewhere deep within her.

[man ] Brussels,

Copenhagen, St. Petersburg.
Each heist bolder than the last.

And to add insult to injury,
Calloway's been her usual accomplice.

Carmen's behavior does not make sense.
Not after Egypt.

But I must admit that these crimes
deviate from her usual pattern.

Not a single stolen object
has been returned since Vienna.

Could it be that Carmen
is playing a longer game?

Possibly, while deep undercover
within VILE?

Or perhaps she has an evil twin?

Just when you think
you have Sandiego pegged, she pivots.

She's perpetually shape-shifting.

I think we need to accept
that we have been played by her.

Again.

I have no choice
but to put all ACME resources

into taking her down.

For good this time.

While her tactics certainly test our own
risk tolerance thresholds,

I must admit that she has been achieving
quite spectacular results.

There is no denying
that our former student

and nemesis has single-handedly
reversed our fortunes.

She is our strongest asset,
and finest Operative.

And she pulls it off
without ever breaking a sweat

or mussing her hair.

With witty banter to boot, so droll.

[giggles]

So, shall we take that vote?

[lightning cracks]

[ominous music]

[thunder roars]

It's no tropical island paradise,
but it's cozy.

[Countess Cleo] Carmen, dearest,
we have asked you here today

to acknowledge your outstanding
performance in all VILE matters.

I owe it to my excellent schooling.

We wish to reward you,

Shadowsan's old seat?

I'm in.

Our little lamb's finally all grown up.

Please know,
that you did not merely earn this seat.

Oh? Do tell.

It is your birthright, my dear,
for VILE blood runs in your veins.

We knew your father, Dexter Wolfe.

went and stole his life.
