♪ Chris and martin saw something strange ♪

♪ A little leaping lemur who liked to bounce and play ♪

♪ They followed their new bouncing friend ♪

♪ Not knowing where this adventure would end ♪

♪ The animals were headed just around the bend ♪

♪ Where are they going? I don't know ♪

♪ How do we get there? Come on, let's go ♪

♪ Me and you and zoboomafoo

♪ Come along and see what's new ♪

♪ We're doing the things that animals do ♪

♪ New animal friends to see

♪ Animal junction is the place to be ♪

♪ Elephants are charging, baboons are leapin' ♪

♪ Wild dogs running and nobody's sleepin' ♪

♪ Me and you and zoboomafoo

♪ Come along and see what's new ♪

♪ We're doing the things that animals do ♪

♪ At animal junction we're waiting for you ♪

Martin: ooh! Ah! Ow!

Chris: I'm sure we left our boots at mudpuppy pond.

I know, but they just disappeared.

Ow!

I stepped on a pine cone.

I wish I had my hiking boots.

Wow!

My hiking boots.

I wish I had mine, too.

It's raining boots!

We had two wishes. Why not make it ?

I wish I had a coconut-- banana. Coconut.

No, banana!

Eww. It's gooey!

Aren't you glad you didn't ask for that coconut?

Ha ha ha!

Uh-oh.

Well, at least I'm not gooey anymore.

In fact, I'm feeling good!

So let's call zoboo.

Zoboo! Zoboo!

Martin: hey, zoboo.

Zoboo's here.

We'll have fun.

Zoboo has such soft fur.

He loves to be scratched.

Zoboo always gets a snack when he gets here.

Zoboo, mangoes!

Whoa. Hey!

Mangoes are slimy, but zoboo loves them.

Zoboo's noisy when he eats.

[Burp]

Whoa!

Zoboomafoo!

Ha ha!

These aregood.

Who did you see in the forest today?

I saw an animal who-- who--who--

Who had pointy sticks all over her body.

Who could it be?

♪ Who could it be

♪ This animal who I did see?

♪ Can you help me guess this mystery? ♪

She had little sticks all over, or was it spiky fur?

She waddled when she walked-- yep, really waddled.

♪ Who could it be?

♪ This animal who I did see

♪ Ah gatsi ga

♪ Ah gatsi ga animal

You know what? Get this.

She likes to eat sticks--

No, she does--

But not snakes.

♪ Who could it be

♪ This animal who I did see?

♪ Can you help me guess this mystery? ♪

She's a sniffy-nosed prickly sticky.

Who is she?

Martin: covered with spiky fur.

Little brown eyes and a sniffy nose.

I know who it is!

Mangatsika! Mystery animal's here!

Chris: a porcupine.

Aah!

Porcupine quills can really get you moving.

Where there are porcupine quills,

There's always a porcupine!

Martin: porcupines are incredible.

Chris: incredibly sharp.

Zoboo: she's covered all over with prickly things.

They're called quills, and they're really sharp.

You can say that again.

They're really sharp!

Ow! Oh! Ooh!

How do porcupines hug each other when they're so prickly?

With a lot of ouches, I guess.

Chris: porcupines don't hug each other.

Besides, most of the time, she keeps them flat.

Porcupine quills are strictly for protection,

Like when you go rollerblading and wear a helmet.

Remember when we were creature adventuring up north?

We saw a fisher tracking a porcupine.

That meant trouble because fishers eat porcupines.

But when the fisher got too close,

Pow! Up went the porcupine quills.

The fisher backed off because he didn't want a face full of quills.

That's protection, porcupine style.

[Zoboo grunting]

Zoboo? Zob? What are you doing?

I'm trying to raise my hairs for protection.

It's only when she's scared or surprised

That her quills stand up.

Martin: let's make sure we don't surprise her.

Ah-ah-ah...

Don't sneeze, martin. You might surprise her.

It's under control.

Ah...ah-choo!

Martin, you made her quills stand up.

They look sharp.

Look at all these quills.

She's prickly, but I'm soft.

You can tell a porcupine by looking at her quills.

Look over at this end. Look over here.

Her face and nose are really soft.

Zoboo: let me see. Whoa!

Look out! Sharp chompers!

Porcupines can't see well, but they smell well.

Zoboo: what is she sniffing for?

She walks with a waddle.

Let's try it.

Do the porcupine waddle.

Zoboo: everybody waddle!

Ok, creatures, get on all fours. Waddle.

Ha ha ha! They're walking like porcupines.

Where are you going?

Maybe she's sniffing for food.

You want a snack?

I guess that means she does.

Let's see now. Wolverine kibble--no.

Cygnet supper--no.

Ah. Porcupine.

[Sniffing]

I knew she was hungry.

Look at those paws.

She eats corn just like we do.

Chris: everybody loves corn on the cob,

Whether you're a kid, a porcupine, or a kratt brother.

We're eating just like porcupines.

I'm a round-and-round guy.

I'm an end-to-end guy.

Hmm. Finished.

Uh-oh. Uh-oh.

[Chris and martin laughing]

I'm feeling kind of feathery!

And proud of it!

Ah-ah...

Don't sneeze, or her quills will stand up again.

No, no.

Ah. Thanks, zob.

You're welcome.

When a predator touches a porcupine,

The porcupine's quills come out...

And end up stuck in the predator's nose.

If you sniff too close to a porcupine...

Zoboo: ooh!

Just call me porcupine nose.

Hold steady.

Ooh! Whoo!

Here, hold on.

Guys, you better put those back.

Otherwise, the porcupine won't be able to protect herself.

It's too late for that now.

Don't worry.

Porcupine quills grow back.

Just like hair.

Now, that's a great haircut!

Porcupine quills are hair, too.

Hard hair.

Mine are soft. Hers are hard.

Each of the porcupine's quills are hollow.

It's hollow, like this straw...

So they don't weigh so much.

What if they weren't hollow?

It would be like carrying this all day. Whoa!

It would be heavy.

Zoboo: hey, chris, I'm feeling porcupinish.

♪ I feel different, not the same ♪

♪ This kind of feeling I can't explain ♪

♪ There's only one thing that I can do ♪

♪ I feel porcupinish-- how about you? ♪

♪ Porcupinish

♪ Feelin' porcupinish

♪ Porcupinish

♪ I'm a spiky-haired porky, waddling all around ♪

♪ Porcupinish

Porcupines' feet are a lot like ours.

Martin: except for those claws.

I didn't know you could climb.

A porcupine is a good climber.

She uses her claws to dig into the bark.

What are you looking for?

Porcupines climb trees to eat leaves and bark.

[Dog barking]

Not that kind of bark.

This kind of bark!

In fact, bark is a porcupine's main food in the wintertime.

She doesn't want any right now.

She's not sleepy, either.

This is a perfect place for her to snooze, but you're right.

She doesn't look sleepy.

She is still sniffing around.

What are you looking for?

She's licking a rock.

Salt!

Of course. She needed salt.

Porcupines lick a lot of salt, especially in winter.

Chris: scarlet macaws love salt.

They get it from eating clay.

There's another clay eater-- howler monkeys.

I think she's leaving.

Now that she's had her salt, porky's leaving.

Bye, porky.

[Chris and martin laughing]

She has the right of way.

Porcupines are grea--

Ah...ah...

It's ok. Porky's gone home. You can sneeze now.

Ah...ah...ah...

Oh, yeah, go ahead. Sneeze.

Ah-choo!

[Sneeze echoing]

Martin: incoming!

A bird?

A plane?

No, it's a...duck!

Chris: wow! It's a saker falcon.

Zoboo: wow, she's feathery-- really feathery and soft.

Is it a message from jackie?

You've got it, zob.

Why did the duck cross the road?

To get to mudpuppy pond.

I'm their crossing guard.

[Toots harmonica]

I'm helping make way for ducklings.

Come on. It's safe to cross now.

Hold on, little duck.

Ooh, you're so soft.

Petting ducklings sure is different than petting a porcupine.

Chris: you know all animals feel different.

Some animals feel smooth, like a dolphin.

Some animals feel furry, like a bear.

Zoboo: some animals feel wet, like a fish.

Some animals feel scaly, like a rattlesnake.

Some animals feel pointy, like a porcupine.

Zoboo: some animals feel soft, like a guinea pig.

Some animals feel slimy, like a salamander.

A great place to check out animals is the petting zoo.

Great idea! Come on!

♪ They're going to the closet ♪

♪ They're going on a trip

♪ They're going to the closet ♪

♪ To grab their stuff and split ♪

But all the stuff will fall on us.

Don't worry, chris. I've found the way.

It's pillow man!

Ok, ready.

Nothing.

Bandannas.

Bandannas?

Let's go!

♪ They're going on a cool adventure ♪

♪ They don't know what's in store ♪

♪ They're coming from the closet ♪

♪ And they're headed out the door ♪

Come on!

You have your skates?

Yeah. Let's roll.

The petting zoo!

This is a great place to get close to animals.

We're playing "who's the sheep?"

Martin will guess which of these animals

Is the sheep by feeling them.

Shh.

Don't tell him which one it is.

We're ready to go.

Ok. Which way?

First animal right here.

All right.

Ok.

This animal is smooth and sleek.

Sheep are woolly, so this isn't a sheep.

It might be a small cow.

Next animal, right over here.

Over here. This way, martin.

Which--

Right over here.

Here?

Right here.

Ok.

I felt a wet nose,

And the fur is very smooth.

But sheep don't have smooth fur.

This can't be a sheep.

It might be a dog. It's not a sheep.

Next animal... Where?

Right over... Right here.

Oh, that's you, chris.

Ok. Whoops. That was the cow.

Wait a second.

This animal's woolly.

I think we found the sheep.

This must be the sheep.

Way to go!

Sheep are so woolly

Because the wool keeps them warm and dry.

That's why people use wool for sweaters that keep them warm and dry.

There are hundreds of different kinds of sheep.

Let's count sheep.

You know what? Counting sheep makes me sleepy.

Child: chris? Martin? Wake up.

Hey, hey!

We were just kidding.

[Laughter]

I love you.

Ok, now it's chris' turn.

He will never guess who this creature is.

Chris: all right, I'm ready.

No peeking, ok? No peeking.

All right.

Right in there.

Wait a second.

Hey, who just kissed me?

Mom, is that you?

It's not mama. It's a llama.

I knew it wasn't my mom.

I was kidding.

What a great animal.

Chris: come on. I got a good one.

Shh. Martin's never going to guess this animal.

All right, martin. Ready?

Yeah, I'm ready.

Right down here.

Where is he?

Right down here.

Ok.

Let's see.

Let's see.

Hmm.

It's long, it's smooth, it's dry...

I got it. This is a snake.

Definitely a snake.

Martin thinks it's a snake.

Hey, wait a minute.

But there are all these bristly hairs.

This isn't a snake. It's an elephant.

It's toothbrush!

We call her toothbrush

Because she has all these short, bristly hairs

Which are just like a toothbrush.

Chris: martin, come here!

Here's a real snake.

Wow.

Most people think snakes are slimy,

But they're actually kind of smooth and dry.

Let's head back to the petting zoo.

Did you realize that animals could feel so different?

Know whose fur would be fun to feel now? Zoboo's!

Let's go back to animal junction and see zoboo.

Martin: where are you?

Chris: over here, martin!

Martin: maybe we shouldn't have tried to feel our way back to animal junction.

You're not kidding. What's this?

Zoboo: no, chris. Don't look!

He has to guess. Ha ha!

It's hard and smooth.

Oh, you feel all scritchy.

And this feels kind of like a rock.

I bet it's a turtle.

It is!

It's a red-eared slider.

Let me see. Wow.

Wow!

She moves extra slow.

Her hard shell is for protection.

I know protection, like porcupine's quills.

This is a water turtle, so this is great for her.

[Grunting]

Hmm?

Hey, another animal visitor.

A lynx!

Let's check it out.

Chris: hey, wait up!

This is soft fur.

The bottom of his feet are soft,

But look at those sharp claws--

Soft and sharp, all in one foot.

His belly's soft, too.

I wonder what it feels like to be a lynx.

Ha ha!

A lynx has a great sense of balance

And an awesome pounce.

I'm like a lynx because I like to jump.

It feels great to leap like a lynx.

He likes to play like me, too. Ha ha!

Here's your ball.

Ooh!

Whoa!

Nice toss.

Lynx paws are super paws!

Ha ha ha! I've got a lynx by the tail--mine!

Whoa! Ha ha ha! Hey, wait!

Whoa! Ha ha!

Whoa! Ha ha ha!

Whoa, that tickles. Hey, whoa! Whoa!

Ha ha! Whoa!

Can I get histail?

Too late. Lynx went home.

Bye, lynx.

There goes one soft and cool cat.

I know who's the slimiest in zobooland.

I was leap, leap, leaping along...

Leap, leap, leap, leap.

I thought I heard a rock crying.

Is that rock crying?

A sad voice said,

No. It's me-- slimantha.

Don't cry. You just need a big hug.

That's why I'm sad.

Nobody wants to hug with me

Because I'm so slimy.

But I told her,

I don't mind. You can give me a hug.

Look out! See?

It's hard to make friends

When you squirt out of their hugs.

I loved your hug. That was fun!

Can you do it again?

Yeah. Come on!

Gee.

Yes.

Now I'm slimy, too. It's my turn to hug you.

This is fun. I'm glad I'm slimy.

I liked it when martin and chris were feeling lynxish.

I liked not sitting on the porcupine.

I really loved guessing which animals we were petting.

I'm bryce. This is my really cool ant farm.

Look at the tunnels.

Pets are great friends.

Every animal is different.

Some like to be petted.

Others are shy.

Only go near an animal when an adult says it's ok.

Right?

Did you know that skunks actually do handstands

When they spray their skunk stink?

These baby skunks are practicing their handstands.

- They're doing pretty good.

I bet they'll be really stinky when they get big.

- Because they have lots of sense.

Stinky sense! Ha ha!

- Did you know that a baby chick has a special tip

On the end of her beak called an egg tooth?

That helps her cr*ck out of her egg.

- That reminds me of a joke.

- Yeah zob?

- I don't know! What?
